36: the sky cried for him

"I guess we can't go to the park today," Seoyun said as they stood behind the large window of the condominium. The clouds had just begun to darken and trickles of rain started to splatter across the window.

"I guess we're staying inside today," Hyunjin laid his hand on her head.

"What should we do? Should I order some food?"Seoyun left to go look at the menu's she and Felix had collected over the past few months. "What do you feel like eating?" She asked Hyunjin who stood still by the window.

"Can you go outside for an hour or two?" He turned to Seoyun.

"But I live here," she answered.

"You trust me, right?" He asked.

"Okay, but what do you want to eat?" She got up from her chair then went to get her purse next to him.

"Chicken please, thank you and I love you," he smiled then gave her a peck on the cheek.

"You love me so much that you kick me out of my own house on a rainy day, love you too honey," she said sarcastically before leaving. The guards waiting for her in a separate room waited for her by the door to accompany her.

"Where are you headed miss Park?" One of them asked.

"I'm going to buy some food so prepare the car," she instructed while she took out her phone to text Seungmin who lived near the chicken store Hyunjin liked. One of the two guards followed her instructions immediately while the other one waited by her side.

Seoyun Park
seungmin-ah are you busy rn?

Seungmin Kim
not at all, why?

Seoyun Park
i miss you
and i'm by your neighborhood
i'm coming over

Seungmin Kim
i miss you too
let me know when you get here
yongbok and jisung are here too

Seoyun Park
i'll be there soon

She turned off her phone then leaned back into her seat at the back of the car. "You can go back since I'll be out for a while so I'll call you when I need you, and tell the maids available to help Hyunjin with whatever he wants, understand?" She said.

"Yes miss Park, I will let them know immediately," the guard who drove her answered. The rest of the drive was silent, she wasn't the type to start a conversation when she wasn't required to. Recently, her family had been more demanding of her now that her graduation was closing in on her. She had to go to social events to make connections with others her age. The rain had grown heavier once she got to Seungmin's house, and so did her worry for Hyunjin. What in the world was he doing? He must be lonely. Those thoughts ran through her mind.

"Not that I don't like your company, but why are you here?" Seungmin asked.

"I was on my way to buy chicken then I thought of you, so I decided to visit, and it's been a while," she let his maid take her coat off.

"Chicken? Ahh, the one Hyunjin likes are here," he said.

"I've been caught," she giggled, "but I did miss you, that part is true," she said.

"I'll take any excuse to see you," Seungmin smiled. "How have you been? You know, with everything," he asked as they took a seat next to each other while Jisung and Felix played Fifa together.

"They don't let me leave the house without an escort anymore, what about you? I've been seeing you in more events nowadays," she referred to the socialite parties her family makes her attend.

"They said that they recognized you attend one so now they're making me attend too,. I blame you," he scrunched his nose.

"Well I'm sorry I was forced to attend, I'll be sure to avoid your parents next time I see them," she replied.

"I'm kidding, but if you ever need an excuse to leave the house you always have me," he smiled.

"I do always have you don't I?" She leaned her head on his shoulder while she watched her cousin and best friend play mindlessly. Once she did realize what she was doing, she sat up then took the seat next to Felix.

"Are you coming home tonight?" She asked him.

"No, I have other plans with Chris later I might be back in the morning," he replied, his eyes never left the screen.

"Aren't you going to ask me if I'm coming home tonight too?" Jisung pouted his lips.

"Are you my cousin?" She asked sarcastically.

"We're all cousins in a way, just a very, very distant one," Jisung answered.

"Sometimes I have no clue what goes on in that head of yours," she tapped his forehead.

"You don't have to figure out what I'm thinking, just remember that this head of mine is very handsome," he replied with a sly smirk. To which she replied with a simple scoff.

"Can you come with me for a second?" Seungmin tapped her shoulder and whispered. She agreed silently and followed him into an empty office.

"Did you have something to tell me?" She asked. The room was surrounded by windows, it portrayed a clear view of the storm that was heavier than she expected.

"Did you know that when I was younger I used to be terrified of storms, they were loud and the lightning frightened me, did you know that?" He asked.

"You've never mentioned it before," she moved closer to Seungmin who stared outside the window with his hands inside his pockets.

"There was this one time when the lightning was so large it felt like it covered the entire sky, the pattern it sprayed out was beautiful, at that point, I was no longer scared of storms. In all honesty, I started to like it because I wanted to see lightning shining across the sky again," he smiled to himself. She was silent for a while not know how to reply, so she decided to just watch the storm with him.

"Why did you tell me that story Seungmin?" She finally spoke up.

"So that the next time it rains like this you'll remember me and the story I told you so that you can think of me from time to time so that I'll be engraved in that head of your," he admitted.

"What are you saying? It sounds like you're implying that I'll forget about you," she said, the worry evident in her voice.

"I'm not implying anything, I just want a memory of just us stored somewhere in your head."

"Seungmin..." she tried to reach for him but he moved away slightly.

"You know, there's a lot of things that you don't know about me. I wanted to be your friend the most but you probably know the least about me," he said.

"That's not true," she argued.

"Did you know that I like you?" He looked at her.

There it was again, the silence between them because she simply did not know how to answer.

"Did you know that I hate how close we are sometimes? That I hate how I know I have to pull away from a hug first because you never know how to let go or that I hate how you're the only person I can't talk about anything to and that this is probably the last time I can do this, did you?" Even though it was dark and the only light source they had was the sparse flashes of lightning, she could still see that he was biting his lip hard and his hands shook even though they gripped his pants tightly.

"I didn't," she looked away from him.

"Haa..." he sighed then ran his fingers through his hair after calming himself down, "Seems like you don't know anything about me."

"Seungmin I don't know how you expect me to reply to that," she said.

"I don't know how I expected you to reply to that either, I should've just kept my mouth closed," he turned back to the window. "I'm most likely going to start avoiding you from sheer embarrassment so don't get mad if you don't see me as often, so can you try to act normal around the others while I'm still here, please, I'm begging."

"Yeah, I can do that. Even though I don't want to, I'll do it, but just so you know this doesn't change a thing about how I feel about you, you're still my friend and I will always be there for you," she said.

"Thanks for that, but I think it would be best if you leave, for now, I'm sorry," he said.

"Yeah, okay." She said her goodbyes to Felix and Jisung before leaving his house. Seungmin didn't look at her at all during that time, he didn't even leave the room. It was drenched in regret and all he wanted to do was scream and cry. But he couldn't, he physically couldn't. So the sky did it for him, the sky screamed and cried for him because he couldn't.
