Chapter 12 Playful

(I apologize if this chapter is shorter than the others. I didn't think that this one needed to be too long. Though who knows, I might add onto it in the future if necessary. Regardless, hope you enjoy!)

"Katie? Katie, wake up!" the voice called, and Katie felt her world crumble back to reality.

***********************************************************************************************

"Katie?" John whispered.

There was a hard slap from someone else.

"Hey! What was that for?"

"Shh! She could be still sleeping!" Kara hissed.

"Says the one that's whispering louder than I am," John replied in return, but slightly quieter than his sister currently. "At least I'm trying. Whispering as quietly as you isn't something that I'm good at."

"I know, but you might need to work on trying harder right now. Especially if you don't want to wake her up."

"Hey, I think she's waking up."

"Thanks to you," She rolled her eyes in annoyance.

"Like I said, I'm trying," he crossed his arms, acting slightly dramatic.

She growled softly, "You know what? Whatever," she pushed the subject away. "You do you."

John shrugged as they both waited for Katie to wake up. They grinned as they finally saw movement in her eyelids.

Katie rubbed her eyes like a little child waking up from their nap, "Hm?" She stretched her whole body, not noticing that she could hit any sort of body part on accident with something near her, or someone.

"Good morning," Kara answered softly, afraid of scaring her in any way.

They both could tell that Katie wasn't awake enough to be aware of her surroundings. She didn't seem to notice their presence either, which they didn't mind. They were willing to wait for as long as it too.

Katie groaned as she blinked multiple times before speaking. She looked up, noticing two people near her bed, and almost screamed for someone for help, "Wh-Who are you two? What are you doing here? Are you going to try to take me? I'll call the police if you don't get out of here!"

John put his arms up in defense, "Hey, don't worry. It's me John; the guy you met at school yesterday. This is my little sister, Kara. We both wanted to visit you today. I have no idea if my dad mentioned that we were coming or not."

"We're sorry if we gave you a scare," Kara continued with an apology. "We didn't mean to freak you out of our presence. If you don't want anyone here, we can come back later, or if you don't want to see us again we won't bug you anymore."

Katie shook her head, "No, that's alright. I... I just didn't expect any visitors. Though, I do remember Karen mention something about someone coming over to visit," Katie thought out loud. "I'm guessing that it was you guys?"

"Who's Karen?" Kara asked curiously.

John answered for Katie before she could even do anything, "She's one of the nurses that dad works with."

Kara's eyebrow rose out of habit, "And how did you find this out?"

"Don't you remember? Dad mentioned multiple times how these two are childhood best friends!"

Kara sighed, "I remember a little bit about her. Though I don't know her too well," she placed her hands on her hips. "You really need to tone your energy down. There's way too much of it currently."

John chuckled, "I have no idea what you're talking about. This is usually how I act."

Katie's giggle interrupted the siblings argument, "Do you two usually act like this?"

John nodded, "Sometimes yes. Though you would be surprised of how well we actually get along. You could say we act like any normal sibling that you will see, regardless of actually how weird we actually are."

Kara laughed softly at his comment.

John, not understanding what humor she got out of what he said, turned to her, "What's so funny?"

Kara snorted, "Nothing. I just know how true that statement is. Sometimes it's scary how true it is, though true all the same."

Katie grinned, curious about these two already, "How did you two know that I was here in the first place? Did your dad mention it to you somehow, and somehow knew? Sorry, I'm just very confused on how you found me in this hospital. I could have been put into any hospital, yet you knew that I was here specifically."

"We actually asked someone where they were taking you," John answered confidently.

"Who did you ask?"

"We called the police since they had the information of who you were. They were the ones that had told the people that were in the ambulance before they left and took you away to this hospital."

"When we found out where you were, we immediately knew where you were, since this is where our father works at. Thanks to John, he drove us here so we could visit you. Of course, we asked our father if you were okay with it. When he called back, he told us that you were alright with it. I will admit that I was nervous of making you freak out, in case you thought we broke into your room, like how you thought a few minutes ago."

Katie flustered as she rubbed her neck awkwardly, "Yeah... Sorry about that... Like I said, I'm not used to people visiting me... This is all kind of new to me."

Kara giggled, "No problem, Katie! It's no big deal. It happens sometimes to the best of us."

Katie smiled slightly with a small nod, "Alright. I guess you have a point there," she looked back and forth at the two siblings. "It was kind of you both for visiting me, even if you don't know me all that well. You really didn't have to do this, you know. I would have been fine either way, and I would not have been if you didn't visit me."

John sighed softly, "Maybe, but it never hurts to visit someone that needs help, whether you know them or not."

Kara grinned as she nodded to John's comment, "For me personally, it makes me feel appreciated in knowing that someone cares about you, regardless of who they are. This is just me though. This could be different for anyone I bet."

Katie thought about this for a moment; a small smile spreading across her face, "You know... Now that I think of it... It does feel good to know that someone is there for you, and cares for you," she had no idea what else to say. All she knew was that she felt emotional, but didn't want to show what she was truly feeling.

Kara smiled, "I'm glad that we could help out somehow."

"Is there anything that you need that we can get you?" John offered.

Without thinking twice, Katie answered already knowing what she wanted, "Yes, actually. I feel bad for asking, but I'm actually thirsty. I was planning on calling in the nurse for some water. Though I feel bad if it sounds like I'm expecting you two to get it for me. If you want something to eat, they should have some snacks, or even a cafeteria for guests as well; if you're both hungry and/or thirsty of course."

"I'm a bit thirsty," Kara admitted. "John?"

He shook his head with a playful grin, "Naw, I'm good for now. Thanks though you two."

"You're welcome!" both of them replied in unison, which ended up in laughter afterwards.

John chuckled softly at both of them, "You know what? You both are weird," his grin only increased in length. "No wonder why you both get along so well."

"Hey!" Kara laughed as she grabbed one of Katie's pillows, and started smacking him with it.

Katie laughed as well, watching her attack her older brother.

John smirked as he tried defending himself with nothing but his arms. He then grabbed a second pillow, and started smashing his sister with it. Both pillows collided with each other often, giving a loud poof, as if someone crashed into something soft and fluffy.

Katie laughed harder, not able to help herself. She searched for a third pillow, hoping to join in the fun. To her excitement, she found one more pillow that had somehow ended up on the floor. Do I really sleep that crazy? She shrugged, knowing that she wouldn't get an answer to her question anytime soon. As both Kara and John were distracted fighting each other off, Katie came in like a gust of wind forcing someone to their knees, and surprising the two immensely.

Kaite blushed, "O-Oh... Sorry... Did I hit too hard?"

As the two ceased their playing, they shook their heads in unison like how robots or a group of army men and women would do.

"Of course not!" John smirked. "You see how hard we were hitting. We are just doing this for fun, and glad you decided to join us."

Katie didn't move, surprised by their reactions.

Kara giggled, "Don't just stand there! Come join in on all of the fun!"

Katie smirked as her pillow swung in the air while laughing, "Alright then, get ready for a takedown!"
