Chapter 8 Information
(I apologize for another chapter that's late. I promise that I'll try catching up this weekend, at least, as best as I possibly can. Suggestions to anything is welcome like always, and hope you enjoy!)
Nick looked down at Maggie with more understanding in mind even without her speaking a work to him in reply. His mind seemed to open to many more possibilities and answers, and it was more than it had been since this whole situation started in the first place. He had to admit that he didn't have the exact answers, but he was open to more solutions now. He sighed softly as he looked back at Maggie, noticing more small details about her that she loved, "Maggie..." he almost whispered towards her, but it was sympathetic more than anything else.
"What...?" Maggie asked, refusing to look directly at him. Her voice was demanding, and Nick, she sounded annoyed once more.
He could already tell that she felt uncomfortable about the conversation that they were having, and he was afraid of making it worse. He shook his head, "It's nothing... I-I'm just worried about you... Is all... You're my best friend, and no matter what, I put my best friends first before any other of my friends. Even my current girlfriend."
Would he actually leave his girlfriend for someone like me? I mean, I'm not even that important, and I'm not perfect. Leola might have the worst personality ever, but, she's beautiful. No wonder why so many men love her. If only they saw what who she truly was on the inside...
Maggie slowly turned her head to face Nick. As reluctant as she was to even glance towards her direction, she knew that she couldn't avoid him forever. Her defenses were up and locked, "Would you really, or are you just saying that to make me feel better? I don't need any simple hollow words right now, Nick. They don't mean anything to me anymore... So don't even try."
Nick felt as if he was forced onto a battlefield, "Maggie, you know I wouldn't speak without actually meaning it. Yes, I've made mistakes, and things come up, but I've been good majority at the time," he slowly started feeling sick to his stomach, feeling as if something bad might happen soon. "Can you at least give me a chance?"
Maggie sighed as she thought about it for some time, "Fine..."
"Thank you, Maggie."

Katie felt nervous as she was entering some of her information. They even had to do some tests to see if anything wasn't as it should be with her body. She strangely felt exhausted after everything happened. She headed back into her room as the doctor's mouth started moving, letting Katie know that she needs to give him her full attention. She felt like she was in a classroom listening to a teacher's instructions for the next assignment that was due.
"I'll just be asking you a few simple questions, and I'll inform the team that we will let you go, if you are ready, of course," his eyes focused on the list that was in his hands. "First question, are you pregnant?"
Katie felt dumbfounded upon the question that she just heard. I don't know why this question made me speechless, like when a dog hears their owners voice reply back to their calls. She thought all of her memories of home and school. The question sent her back to a world that she had forgotten, but it was only a distant memory. Just don't think about it... You'll be okay... It's in the past... It'll never happen again...
"Katie, are you alright?"
"Huh?" Katie's attention snapped back to reality.
"Did you hear the question?"
"Oh, uh... Yeah, I did... Though I, uh... Kinda passed out on it on accident... Sorry..." Why am I so nervous...? Great... Now my palms are starting to sweat. Hopefully he doesn't see...
He gave her a reassuring smile, "Don't worry. I asked if you are currently pregnant."
"Oh, no I'm not." I better not be.
He quickly checked off Katie's response, "Alright. Are you allergic to anything?"
Katie nodded, "Yes, actually. I'm allergic to dust, pollin, animal fur, and strong smells such as perfume or strong lotion; anything else that has an obvious smell to it that you can smell from a mile away, and dust."
He nodded and smiled, "I have three children that are actually allergic to those things as well. Not all of them are exactly allergic to all of those things that you have suggested, but each of them are at least allergic to something similar."
Katie smiled in return, "That's interesting. How do they deal with it?"
"They usually take some allergy medicine that works for them. I believe that one or two of them need stronger medicine because of how bad their allergies can be if not treated properly."
Katie nodded, interested in this little small talk that they were having with each other. If Karen didn't help cheer me up already, then I guess I could say that I'm feeling better by just talking openly with my doctor. I find that I don't do this as often as I probably could and should. Maybe I should learn to trust him more, in case an incident like this, or anything else that might occur, then I can reach out for him to help. Even if Karen helps out I would be thankful.
"That's always good to know. I also take medicine for it too. I'm just glad that such a thing exists."
Dr. Peterson nodded in agreement, "I am as well. I feel bad for those that did not have all of the wonderful medicine that was created for us in our day. They somehow got through it all, as well as dealing with many other terrible things that we don't always have to face today. For example, the pioneers had to trek from their home countries all the way to America. We should be thankful that we do not have to endure what they did."
Katie nodded as she listened. When he finished, she spoke up, "Yeah. I guess we tend to take it for granted, which I know I do sometimes."
Dr. Peterson nodded once more, and Katie swore that he was a recorder, just repeating everything he's doing since they started this sort of conversation. Other than that, she was thankful that this didn't turn awkward fast, "Yes, I think we all have every now and then," he grinned as he chuckled softly. "Since we were talking, I had forgotten what I was doing here in the first place. I have a few more questions to ask you, and I'll leave you alone."
Katie grinned as she prepared herself once more, "Alright. Sounds good."
"Going back to allergies, are you allergic to anything food related?"
"No."
"Do you experienced any mental illnesses such as depression, anxiety, etc?"
Katie froze, afraid of actually being honest. She glanced down at her doctor, then she looked back at him before looking away once more. She sighed.
"Katie?"
"No, I haven't before."
"One more question, then I'll leave you alone."
"Alright. Go ahead."
"Before I ask the last question, I just realized that I forgot to ask you if you were allergic to any sort of medicine by any chance?"
"No, not what I know of anyway."
"Alright. Thank you for your patience, Katie."
"No problem."
"Last question: Do you smoke?"
"Thankfully no. I wouldn't smoke even if someone offered me money for it."
He chuckled, "I'm glad. Alright. Thank you, Katie. I'll report to the person that will release you. They should be able to come soon."
She nodded as she laid on the bed, trying to get as much rest in before she had to leave before going back into her literal nightmare.

"Okay, almost done... There! Finally, I'm done with this drawing that's due tomorrow. I wish that it was better, but this is the best that I could do for finishing this the day before. I've been working on this for the full week, and I can't believe that I finished it. This thing took longer than I had suspected it to take. I guess it took longer since I had to do homework for other classes too. Which would make sense. Why the heck am I talking to myself again? I gotta stop doing this, like seriously. I'm probably just going insane because of this."
There was a knock on the door.
"Hm? Who is it?" Katie called out to the visitor.
"It's your mother. Can I come in, please?"
"Of course! Just open the door!"
"Can you open the door for me, dear? My hands are full."
"Are they really?"
"Yes, really. I wouldn't be lying to you dear. You know that."
I doubt that. She jumped off her bed, and opened the door regardless of what she thought. She gasped as she knew what her mother had in her hand, and it was one of the biggest reasons why she feared of opening the door for her mother. It even went as far to where she questioned everything she and even her father did to her. Her trust in them had faded, yet they acted like everything was alright. Though in reality, everything wasn't alright... Not anymore anyway.
