It was a warm summer night when Paul first heard the song "death bed" by Powfu and beabadoobee. It was being played softly on the radio as he drove down the winding country road, windows rolled down and wind blowing through his hair. Because of his reecent situation, he felt so related to its lyrics. They spoke of a love that was intense and all-consuming, a love that burned bright but ultimately ended in tragedy.
"Don't stay awake for too long, don't go to bed
I'll make a cup of coffee for your head
It'll get you up and going out of bed
Yeah, I don't wanna fall asleep, I don't wanna pass away
I've been thinking of our future, 'cause I'll never see those days
I don't know why this has happened, but I probably deserve it
I tried to do my best, but you know that I'm not perfect
I've been praying for forgiveness, you've been praying for my health
When I leave this Earth, hoping you'll find someone else
'Cause, yeah, we still young, there's so much we haven't done
Getting married, start a family, watch your husband with his son
I wish it could be me, but I won't make it out this bed
I hope I go to Heaven, so I see you once again
My life was kinda short, but I got so many blessings
Happy you were mine, it sucks that it's all ending."
The main character in that song would pass away soon, and he regretted his relationship since he couldn't be with his lover anymore. While listening to it, Paul felt a sense of sadness wash over him. He had never experienced a love like that, one that was so powerful that it could consume him entirely. Paul often felt like an outsider when his friends talked about their romantic relationships. He had never experienced those feelings of butterflies in his stomach or the rush of excitement when seeing someone he liked. It was because Paul had always been practical and focused on his studies and career, never letting himself get too caught up in matters of the heart. At first, he didn't think much of it. Paul was content with his life and didn't feel he was missing out on anything. However, as he got older, he started realizing something was unfound. He began to wonder if he was capable of love or if he was just wired differently.
Despite his lack of experience, he remained hopeful that someday, he would find someone special. Paul didn't want to force it or settle for someone just because he felt he had to. He wanted to experience love genuinely after having a stable career.
As he progressed through his life journey, he realized that love could come in many forms. He might not have had a romantic relationship, but he had friendships and family that he loved deeply. He learned that love wasn't only about the romantic aspect but the connections we made with others.
However, something about the song spoke to him on a deeper level. It made him realize that perhaps he had been missing out on something all along. Maybe there was more to life than just work and ambition. Maybe there was room for wild love and passion, too.
Thus, inspired by the song, Paul went on a journey to find that kind of love. He knew he mustn't waste any seconds; otherwise, he would regret it when it was too late. Paul met new people and went to new places. He also allowed himself to be vulnerable in a way he had never tried before. After a while, it seemed like he had found who he was looking for.
She was Beatrice, a beautiful girl with a gold heart and a spirit shining brightly. Her infectious laugh and radiant smile could light up any room, and her kindness and compassion endeared her to everyone she met. She knew how to make people feel valued and loved. Hence, her presence was always a gift. Beatrice was adventurous and fearless. She was always ready to take on new challenges and explore the world around her. She was a true inspiration. Her grace and beauty forever changed those fortunate enough to know her, including Paul.
Beatrice encouraged Paul to become more open with the outside world and himself. After only a few days of interacting, he found out they shared the same hobby. It was exploring. As the days turned into weeks, they were known as an adventurous couple who loved to scout new places. They had traveled to many countries and had countless unforgettable experiences together. Paul and Beatrice always sought new challenges and thrills, from hiking in the mountains to scuba diving in the deep sea.
One of their most memorable adventures was a road trip across the United States. They drove from coast to coast, stopping at national parks, small towns, and big cities. They camped under the stars, tried local cuisine, and met interesting people from different backgrounds. While traveling, they learned a lot about themselves and each other. They discovered new strengths and weaknesses and faced unexpected obstacles together. Despite occasional disagreements and setbacks, they remained committed to each other.
Paul and Beatrice also looked for more tranquil activities, such as attending church and watching movies. They once decided to go on a romantic date at a local cinema. As the film began, Paul put his arm around Beatrice, and they cuddled up close. But just as they were getting comfortable and the atmosphere was perfect, there was a funny accident. It made the whole room laugh out loud. It turned out that someone had spilled their drink and slipped on it, causing a chain reaction of people stumbling and trying to catch their balance. Paul and Beatrice couldn't help but join in and laugh along with everyone else. Despite that unexpected event, they still enjoyed their date and had a great time together. While returning home, they couldn't stop talking about that hilarious moment. Since that date, everything kept getting better. Their love grew and became more passionate, just like the relationship in "death bed"—the song that had motivated Paul to do this from the beginning.
"I'm happy that you here with me, I'm sorry if I tear up
When me and you were younger, you would always make me cheer up
Taking goofy videos and walking through the park
You would jump into my arms every time you heard a bark
Cuddle in your sheets, sing me sound asleep
And sneak out through your kitchen at exactly 1:03
Sundays, went to church, on Mondays, watched a movie
Soon you'll be alone, sorry that you have to lose me."
However, the song's negative side might also foretell Paul's relationship. After five years, he began realizing that the love he had found was not the kind meant to last. It was intense and passionate, yes, but it was also fleeting and fragile. And in the end, just like in the song, it ended in tragedy.
There was no death or deathbed confession in Paul's story, but the similar had been some of his mental experiences for a long time. He was left with a broken heart and a sense of regret for having chased after something so momentary. Still, when Paul listened to the song again, he realized it wasn't just about the tragedy of losing love. It was also about the beauty and intensity of experiencing it in the first place. It was a reminder for us to cherish our love as long as possible because no one knew what would happen tomorrow.
And so, despite the pain and heartache, he knew he would find love again. Because the love he had had might have been brief, but it had been so real. And that was all that mattered. He knew he would never miss another chance to be drowned in love! There must be someone out there who would happily agree to write another love story with him, right?
"Don't stay awake for too long, don't go to bed
I'll make a cup of coffee for your head
It'll get you up and going out of bed."
