Chapter 24
Song of the chapter: She Looks So Perfect - 5 Seconds of Summer
I stepped out of my room into the hallway, walking down to Rae's adjacent to mine.
"Rae?"
I tapped lightly on the door, which was opened by the stunning vision that is my amazing friend. She was wearing a pinstriped blazer adorned with bright yellow pumps, her hair in a sleek ponytail.
"Look at you looking all cute and flirty for Eoin. Somebody's going to have an awesome night," she proclaimed, holding the door open for me.
"I'm not going to do anything, let alone sleep with him," I shot down. "You're too invested in this."
"I'm just being your friend, okay? Besides, who says you have to sleep with him?" she asked with a smirk.
I threw her a threatening look and she backed off, laughing at my temperament. "I can't help wanting you to have a great and good looking boyfriend. Now sit down and make my job easier."
She showed me to a chair in her lounge and swept my hair into a simple chignon bun, pinning it up with a multitude of bobby pins.
"There. You look really pretty now."
She grabbed her phone, her fifth limb, off the coffee table and led me out of the hotel. "Let's get you there before you get cold feet and run away with Mitchell. I noticed you texting him earlier. Am I such bad company that you have to ask him to save you?"
Shit!
I was so screwed. She saw me texting my boyfriend and now she knows we're together, I thought. God, Mitchell is going to be so pissed because now someone else has figured us out and -
"We met Eoin and you got a killer dress. I'm pretty sure that makes me a much better best friend than Mitchell will ever be."
I remember my heart beating rapidly against my chest when I heard her say that, exhaling a deep breath.
That was so close.
"Rae, if I say I'll at least make pleasant conversation with him, will you stop?" I appeased.
"Have I ever told you how much I love you? I'm gonna give my first born son to you," she exclaimed, pulling me into a sweet smelling hug.
"I really don't."
We arrived at the club a half hour later, the relaxed city atmosphere having transitioned into a colourful, lively nightlife. The band was just beginning their last set for the night, an upbeat version of one of their favourite covers.
I sauntered over to the bar situated to the left of the stage while Rae looked around for Eoin (rolls eyes). I caught Mitchell searching the crowd for someone, jamming along with his bandmates.
I waved at him to grab his attention; he winked at me and smiled his goofy, adorable smile that only I had the privilege of receiving as often as possible. That was his way of telling me he missed me and loved me, in that particular order.
"Twice in one day. Are you stalking me now?" Eoin's voice whispered into my ear, his breath tickling my neck. I rolled my eyes before turning to face him, smiling the most sincere smile I could muster.
"You tell me. You're the one sneaking up on me. Am I missing something?" He chuckled and his eyes lit up, the dim lighting electrifying them.
"I thought you'd find it really sexy. Too much?" he asked, throwing up his hands.
"You took off the suit so maybe not. I see I made my mark on you."
He was wearing a checkered shirt rolled up to his elbows, with some fitted jeans and brown biker boots, a stark contrast to what I'd seen him in earlier. His hair was tumbling around his shoulders and the side of his face, loose blonde locks tucked behind his ears.
"These are my going out clothes. And I wanted to blend in. We seem to be matching," he noted, nudging my knee with his leg, indicating our similar shoe choice. He went around the counter, replacing the bartender. "Seeing as I'm dressed the part, what can I get you?"
"I'd like a beer, thanks Eoin."
Mitchell.
"Hey, stranger," he greeted me, coming off the stage after their set. "Why were you guys so late?"
"Is Rae ever early?" I asked, answering his question. Eoin chuckled, handing Mitchell his drink.
The awkwardness of the situation then dawned on me: I was in my low-key boyfriend's company while I was supposed to be flirting with another guy who clearly seemed to harbour certain emotions towards me.
"Hey!" I heard Rae exclaim, walking over with Cameron, their hands intertwined. "Ya'll are always early. I'm merely on time," she defended, flashing a cute, innocent smile.
I glanced over to Mitchell then to the hidden alcove I'd spotted from the bar, taking everyone's bombardment as our cue to escape.
I ducked under the crowd with Mitchell following a moment later.
"Baby," I said, pulling him in for a hug. "I missed you too."
