Chapter Three

"Cloudstream you can't!" Rosepaw said frantically, attempting to push the warrior back down. "Your leg is hurt, and you didn't help things by running around yesterday!"

"I'm fine!" Growled Cloudstream. "I can walk, but he can't. I need to see them Rosepaw!" That, it turns out, was not entirely true. The she cat tried to hide the pain when she took a step on her front left paw, but the medicine cat apprentice saw her. She glared at the red and white cat challenging her.

"No Cloudstream. I'll get Mintleaf if I have to!" Medicine cats were the most stubborn thing on this good earth Cloudstream thought as she attempted to get past the apprentice. Her leg and shoulder protested loudly, but Flamewind and Ashpaw had been badly injured and she needed to see him! Both of them. No cat would tell her anything.

"Rosepaw!" She growled, whipping her head around and staring into the cat's Amber eyes. "Flamewind is like my brother. I need to know that he's alright."

The small she cat's eyes were conflicted. "But, Cloudstream." She sighed. "Let me help you." She supported the white cat out of the small chamber that branched off of the medicine cat den. They walked into another one where Flamewind lay on a bed of moss. Cloudstream gasped. He was unconscious and badly scarred. Cobwebs covered half his face and his back leg. Blood seeped out from the edges of the wrappings.

"H-how is he?" She asked faintly.

"His leg will take some time to heal back to its full strength. His face is bad, he is very luck it missed his eyes but  there will be scarring no matter what." Rosepaw said in a small voice. Cloudstream looked up sharply, sending a wave of pain through her body, at a small sob. She just noticed the other cat there with them. Briarpelt. Cloudstream limped over to the brown tabby cat. They stood over Flamewind and prayed to Starclan that he would wake soon. After a while, Cloudstream stood and attempted to make her way from the small chamber.

"Where are you going?" Mintleaf asked as he entered, his paws full of herbs and cobwebs.

"To see Ashpaw." She said, gritting her teeth against the pain. The grey tabby frowned and rolled her a poppy seed.

"She's in the far left chamber."

Cloudstream nodded and walked slowly to her room. The small apprentice lay on a bed of moss. The apprentices eyes were closed and the only sign of life was the small rise and fall of her chest. "Cloudstream." Brightstorm said as she white cat sat down in front of Ashpaw.

Cloudstream stared at the unresponsive apprentice."H-has she woken yet?"

Tears filled Brightstorm's eyes as she shook her head. "Mintleaf doesn't know whats happened to her. sh-she should be fine but..." Cloudstream comforted her sister, but worry filled her mind and heart. Ashpaw looked so small, so helpless, lying there still, as if in death. Thornpaw poked his head in, trembling. Cloudstream stood and let the small family be alone together. She padded back to her room in the den and lay down thinking.

After one more check by Rosepaw, then Mintleaf, Cloudstream was released from the medicine cat den. Cloudstream crawled into the warrior den, and lay down to rest, trying to calm her overactive mind.

She couldn't find that quiet place though, and set to thinking about the last day's activities. The more she thought about it the madder she got at the nameless rouges who had taken everything from a young apprentice, and rendered a warrior useless for a time. Her claws came out, and she kneaded the soft earth. They would pay for this, when the time came. She would make sure of that.

After an hour of sleeplessness, the white she cat gave up and walked out of the den. Anger coursed trough her veins and she hated being trapped here, unable to help, unable to do anything. Riverpelt had said that Cedartail, Greyflower, and Rowanpaw had gone out to try and find the rouges, and any sign of Icepaw, but she needed to be there herself. She looked around the camp, then walked quietly out of the bramble tunnel, disappearing into the surrounding forest.

Running, the warrior made it quickly to the attack sight. The smell of blood and rouge was still thick on the air. She followed the scent, but it lead away from MistClan territory, into StormClan land. Cloudstream growled and trotted along the border, hoping to catch a whiff of rouge. She shook out her white pelt. After several minutes Cloudstream sighed. "What am I doing?" She growled to herself. Many cats had been out here already, what did she think she was going to find? Cloudstream's ears pricked up. She stilled and listened. In a flash she took off running. Cries grew louder and louder the closer she got. Cloudstream ran, not caring about the thorns and brambles that caught on her fur. An icy hand of fear clutched at her heart when all sounds ceased and a deathly silence filled the air. Her apprehension grew and she burst into a clearing normally used to train older apprentices.

She looked around wildly, teeth bared and claws unsheathed. Her eyes swept over the small hollow and a strangled cry broke free from her throat and she slumped over. A cat lay in the dust, obviously dead. Cloudstream's old mentor and longtime friend was left there, the cat's pelt covered with dust and sweat. The Amber eyes shone glassy and lifeless. The she cat cried and bowed her head over the fallen warrior. Cedartail was dead.

A/n did you like the Cloudstream chapter? I know another dramatic(kinda) ending but.....What did you think? Good? Bad? Constructive criticism is always welcome!
