Chapter 6

Moria

Daeran POV

We trekked the steep snowy hills for hours. Being an elf I had no trouble walking through the snow, or on top of it to be exact.

I took pity on the hobbits and would carry one on my back, for sometime.

I know some did not approve of it, but I didn't care. Currently we were all making our way up a steep incline. When suddenly I hear a faint yelp.

Everyone turns and sees Frodo rolling down the mountain from where he slipped I am assuming. Rolik easily caught him and helped him up.

Frodo brought his hand to his chest. The ring was not on his chest, it must have fallen somehow. I started to worry when Boromir bent down grabbing something in the snow. It was the ring.

He brought it up towards his face and I could feel my magic start to increase. I never really did like that man. I was prepared to curse him when he suddenly spoke.

"It is a strange fate that we should suffer such fear and doubt over so small a thing." Boromir reached up to touch the ring when Rolik called to him.
I was focused my magic and placed a hand on the sword at my side. I was prepared to strike if need be.
As if being pulled out of a trance Boromir gasped and looked to Rolik. "Give the ring to Frodo" Boromir looked to Frodo at first looking like he didn't want to. Surely but slowly he walked over to Frodo.

I watched his movements carefully as did everyone else. At the first sign of danger Boromir would be a dead man. Frodo quickly grabbed the ring and brought it close to him.

Then Boromir reached out and ruffled Frodo's hair in a playful manner. Turning away like it was nothing. I looked at Rolik and noticed his hand resting on his sword.
After that incident, everyone remained quiet and tense. Some glances were thrown at Boromir as we continued.
It wasn't long before we were making our way along a steep ledge. The Hobbits were too short to be able to walk and had to carried.

Gimli as stubborn as he was would not take any help offered and was left to walk through the snow as tall as him. I carried Marry while Rolik carried Frodo and Sam.

Boromir carried Pippin. Legolas had offered to carry Sam, but Gandalf insisted he keep a look out for any danger.

I carried Marry in front of me like a child walking behind Legolas. It was then that I heard something, a voice. Legolas quickly made his way to the front of the group he heard it too.

"There is a fowl voice on the air" Legolas said to no one in particular. "IT'S SARUMAN" Gandalf yelled. There was a loud crack above us and I quickly glanced up.

Huge rocks started cascading down on us. I moved over to the side of the mountain covering Marry as much as I could. "HE'S TRYING TO BRING DOWN THE MOUNTAIN, GANDALF WE MUST TURN BACK" Rolik yelled.

"NO" Gandalf replied moving to the side of the cliff. Understanding what Gandalf was doing I moved to the ledge as well. I passed Marry over to legolas and joined Gandalf.

Gandalf started to chant. I used my magic to project his voice more through the thick and harrowing storm that surrounded us. This was no ordinary storm.

I should have been able to feel the magic, but I couldn't. Gandalf's voice was loud and strong was he fought against the so called wizard.

But no matter how much magic I put in, my efforts were futile when suddenly a lighting strike came out of nowhere. The snow from the cliff above us came down.

I felt someone grab me and pull me back into the cliff. The next thing I'm covered in snow. I push out trying to escape from my snowy enclosure.

I pop my head out of the snow and notice the others struggling as well. I quickly make it out and start to help the others who are still decently buried.

Suddenly legolas was beside me "Are you ok?" He asked. I nod my head "Yes I think so" I said helping the hobbits out the snow. "We must get off the mountain, Make for the Gap of Rohan." Boromir shouted

"But Rohan takes us too close to isengard and with Saruman back we cannot risk it."

"if we cannot pass over the mountain let us go under it. Let us go through the Mines of Moria" Gimli said. Gandalf thought for a few seconds before looking to Frodo.

"Let the ring bearer decide." everyone placed their attention on Frodo waiting for an answer. Frodo looked surprised, he looked around and not sure of himself. "Frodo"

Frodo looked to Gandalf with determination "We will go through the mines." So that was settled. I cannot say how I was feeling then.

If it were just me I would have kept going. But the others they had much difficulty. We turned around and started making our way back.

Soon we reached the stone wall of Moria. I stayed close to legolas, I had a bad feeling. Gandalf walked over to the wall feeling along its surface. Suddenly the door lit up with a silver glow.

I was in aw as was everyone else. However that was soon lost when Gandalf didn't know how to get in and we were all left waiting.

I turned and faced legolas "I have bad feeling" Legolas's face became hard. "What do you feel? He took my hands in his own leading me over to the side, so no one could eavesdrop.

"I don't like it here something seems off. Ever since we first arrived my magic has flared a few times and I just have this feeling"

He nodded and I made my way over to Rolik. "I feel as if we never truly got acquainted." I said to him. He took my hand. "Thats all me. We never had time to really speak in Rivendell. I am glad to properly meet you. Arwen speaks highly of you." I smiled "Its alright. Arwen speaks highly of you as well." We chatted for some time quietly. But a loud splashing sound interrupted us.
I was suddenly on high alert. Something dark lived within those waters. I stood with Rolik and the hobbits at the edge of the water. I was so preoccupied that I didn't hear the door open.

Rolik put a calming hand on my back as we made our way forward. Everyone made their way through darkened entrance. The sight that befell us was appalling.

Their were dead bodies littering the ground and the stench of death was strong. "This is no mine" Boromir started "It's a tomb" Gimli ran over to one of the bodies yelling in sorrow.

I bent down and quickly took one of the arrows out of a body examining it. "Orcs" I said. Quickly thrown down the arrow and standing back up.

Legolas took out his bow while Rolik and Boromir drew their swords. I summoned upon my magic. Feeling energy run through me. My sword wasn't far behind. "We make for the gap of Rohan. We should never have come here" Boromir said "Get out."

I turned around quickly when I heard Rolik's name being called. Sam yelled and there was a commotion. The others turned around immediately running towards the entrance.
There was a giant tentacled monster dragging Frodo to the water.
I used my sword to slice through a couple of the tentacles. There was yelling all around me. I tried to reach Frodo, but before I could get to him he was violently dragged into the air. I could hear people yelling and screaming for his name. The others were still hacking at the tentacles.

I could hear Frodo's desperate cries as the head of the monster came above the water. Rolik and Boromir ran towards the tentacles holding Frodo cutting them swiftly. Frodo fell into Rolik's arms.

He passed Frodo to Boromir and the three made their way towards the mine. I saw Legolas fire at the monster sending it back a few feet. As we ran inside the mine the creature push upon the mine's entrance causing it to collapse.

I quickly put a shield over everyone. Large chunks of stone hit the shield but no one was hurt. The door closed and everyone was panting horrified at what just happened.

I put down my shield and summoned some light in my hand. "We now have but one choice. We must face the long and dark of Moria" Gandalf said lighting his staff. Legolas came over to me gently taking my face in his hands.

"Are you alright? Are you hurt?" I smiled at him reassuringly. "I'm fine" with one last look he dropped his hands. He took my hand in his and we followed behind the others.

At some point in the journey we had made it to a Crossroads. Gandalf stopped glancing at each of the entrance ways.

"I have no memory of this place" he had said. We waited for quite some time until Gandalf was able to remember the way to go. However he declared it was by the way the air smelled and how it was much cleaner. We entered a large room.

Along with Gandalf I brightened my light letting it illuminate more of the room. But it was then that I noticed it wasn't really a room it was more of a hall.

"Behold the great Brown of the dwarf city" the hall was absolutely breathtaking. Large pillars lined throughout the hall.

They were of gorgeous architecture and of nothing you would ever see in the Elvish cities. We started making our way down the hall.

It was hard to not keep your eyes from wandering. A sudden shout brought me out of my daze. Gimli tore off from the rest of the group with a shout.

He ran into a room kneeling before what looked to be a tomb. "No" he said in a devastated voice. Gandalf read the stone "The Lord of Moria" With those words Gimli wailed louder.

It was quite annoying to be honest. We were supposed to be staying as quiet as possible and he wasn't really helping things. Gandalf reached down and picked up a large book.

It opened to the last page. Legolas left my side and made his way to Rolik "We must move on, we cannot linger." Legolas was right it was a bad idea to stay in one place.

There were enemies all around us. Gandalf then started to read from the book. His words made everyone feel uneasy. "They are coming" It was then that I looked over and noticed Pippin.

"Pippin no" I spoke up drawing everyone's attention. But it was to late. The skull from the body fell into the well causing a loud crash. It echoed through the room drawing everyone's attention.

I quickly put up a silencing spell hoping and praying to every god in existence that it would be ok. Pipin stood in front of the well with a guilty face I could tell he was deeply upset with himself.

I looked around everyone was releasing deep breaths. "Fool of a took. Throw yourself in next time" Gandalf grabbed his staff and hat from Pippin roughley.

It was then that I heard it. At first it was soft but it soon grew. It was the sound monster. "Orcs" Legolas said informing everyone.

Boromir ran towards the door closing it. "They have a cave troll" He said grabbing swords and axes on the ground barricading the door.

Everyone drew their weapons. I drew my bow aiming it. Gimli stepped on the tomb facing the door "Let them come, there is still one dwarf left in Moria who still draws breath."

Legolas and Rolik stood on either side of me bows drawn. Soon axes and other weapons were cutting through the door.

When one of the orcs came into my sight I quickly fired and drew another arrow. Rolik and Legoals followed my lead releasing arrows through the door.

The door was then knocked down and orcs stormed in. I kept firing at the oncoming orcs, but soon had to draw my sword.

I called upon my magic and blasted a few ors into the nearby walls. This was my first real battle, and it terrified me.

It was definitely not something I wanted to get used to. But I'm sure fate will have other plans for me. I saw as he Hobbits bravely ran towards the battle cutting through nearby orcs.

Unlike me Legolas kept his bow in hand cutting down orcs swiftly. Rolik had like me converted to the sword. I was impressed with his skill.

I swiftly cut off an orcs head when there was a loud crash behind me. I was a cave troll. It smashed through the entrance of the room swinging it's club.

Legolas fired at it, but it didn't seem to have much effect. The troll was facing me when it swung. I quickley ducked and rolled between it's legs. I used a cutting spell on the trolls back.

A small gash appeared, but that was it. I huffed moving away from the creature. Gimli threw his axe , but it just seemed to enrage the creature more.

I brought up my sword and slashed through more orcs keeping an eye on the troll. I saw Legolas on a ledge firing arrows. The troll was trying to hit him with a chain, but Legolas was quick on his feet.

Legolas jumped on the trolls head aiming two arrows, but they barely did anything. I wanted to scream in frustration. I ran towards where Frodo was.

The troll was now aiming towards him. Frodo was backed into a corner on his back. I jumped in front of him raising a shield. The troll started to pound against my shield. It shuddered dangerously.

I dropped my sword and raised my other hand adding more magic to it. The troll trying to get through my shield rammed his entire body into it.

I collapsed to my knees I had never held against something like this and it was starting to get to me. I looked to my side and saw Rolik trying to make his way over to us. But he looked like he had hit his head.

The troll then rammed into my shield again, but this time I couldn't hold it. I felt my shield collapse, my knees buckled and I went down with it.

My head hit the floor hard as I fell. My head exploded with pain. I didn't cry out, but dear lord I wanted to. I was breathing hard, but I still didn't have the energy to get up.

I could hear Frodo yelling in terror and Rolik calling his name. That was enough to get me up. I picked myself up swaying slightly.

Everyone was now attacking the troll, all the orcs defeated. After a few minutes of everyone making blows the troll finally went down.

Everyone was breathing hard in the end. No one looked like they were hurt as far as I could tell. Frodo stood beside Sam unhurt. I felt a hand on my back, but I didn't startle.

"Are you ok?" Legolas asked. I turned to face him and noticed him frown. He brought him hand up to my forehead and I winced when he touched my head.

His fingertips came back with blood. "It's just a scratch" I said trying to reassure him. But he didn't look convinced.

"Come we must go and quickly" Gandalf said running out the room. I followed behind the group, Legolas right next to me.
