Lời giới thiệuBên cạnh các thể loại sách như: tiểu thuyết, truyện dài, truyện vừa thì truyện ngắn cũng là một thể loại được công chúng ưa chuộng và yêu thích. Để đáp ứng nhu cầu của đông đảo độc giả, nhà đạo diễn điện ảnh người Anh mang quốc tịch Mỹ Alfred Hitchcock (1899 - 1980) đã sưu tầm những truyện ngắn của nhiều tác giả và cho in thành sách Hitchcock magazine, chia nó thành nhiều tập với những tựa đề khác nhau. Nhưng ông mới chỉ tuyển chọn và cho xuất bản được hai tập thì mất. Hai cuốn sách đó là: Những chuyện kinh dị (Histoires angoissantes) in năm 1961 tập hợp được ba truyện ngắn: Kẻ đội lốt; Hai chàng thợ săn và một cô gái; Chiếc hộp bí mật. Năm 1974, Alfred Hitchcock cho xuất bản cuốn Histoires troublantes (Những chuyện gây bối rối) gồm những truyện: Một vạn đô la; Được ăn cả, ngã về không; Tiếng còi trong sương đêm.
