Chapter One
Ivydawn dropped the last bundle of coltsfoot she had in the medicine den. All the coltsfoot she could find were neatly placed together with a large leaf she was given wrapped around it. The ShadowClan warrior looked up after seeing the coltsfoot was still together and not damaged during the process of bringing them over.
"I got your herbs, Blacktalon! Next time, maybe get your own herb," she called out.
Blacktalon emerged from the darkness of the back of the den. Ivydawn almost flinched when she saw her brother suddenly appearing in front of her. He padded over to the pile of coltsfoot she brought. Without a word, he slowly examined the herbs, seeing if they could be used. When he was done, the medicine cat lifted up his head, looking at Ivydawn.
"Yes, these are the ones I needed. Thanks," Blacktalon replied.
"I still don't understand why you need to me to get your herbs," Ivydawn told him.
"Uh, I was busy and all. You know how I always have to help Heatherflight now," Blacktalon responded, looking nervously at Ivydawn.
Ivydawn chuckled, "My StarClan, you're helpless. Always making excuses for yourself."
"I'm not!" he squeaked with panic in his tone.
"Well, if you're helpless or not, I'll be there to help you. I may not liking getting your herbs for you, but if you need me to do it, I'll do it," she reassured.
"Um, er, thanks!" Blacktalon first stuttered, before meowing out what he was going to say.
Ivydawn smiled at her brother before padding out of the den. Blacktalon quickly picked up the wrapped up coltsfoot before scuttling back to the back of the medicine den. Ivydawn held back to giggle at her nervous brother, but she knew how hard he tried to seem confident. Ivydawn walked off.
"Hey, Ivydawn!"
Ivydawn was about to look around, but before she could do anything, she was tackled to the ground. Ivydawn yelped in shock, thinking that the camp was being invaded. Whoever tackled her and Ivydawn both flung back, almost hitting the medicine den as the two tumbled back.
She rose her back legs up a little, ready to shove whoever the attacker was off. As Ivydawn looked up, her back legs quickly went down. Ivydawn chuckled as she smirked. It was just Icebird who playfully tackled her to the ground. She held back a sigh of relief. When she looked up into Icebird's eyes that were as dark as the deep abyss of the lake, she could easily tell that it was her. She knew those eyes anywhere, along with her snowy white pelt.
Ivydawn struggled to talk. Icebird's long hair got caught in her mouth. It felt like she would have been suffocated by Icebird's fluffy, feathery-furred pelt if she was pressed against her black-furred body anymore. Luckily, she felt Icebird rise up a little, giving her the needed air to even speak to her.
"Well, it looks like you've learned how to stalk up on some cat now. I would recommend not shouting their name out before you tackle them. It gives it away," she joked, laughing.
"I called out your name, but I was still able to tackle you down this ground, so I would call that a win!" the white-furred she-cat declared, lifting her head up like a pride leader who was able to win a battle.
"Well, anyways, what do you want now, Icebird?" Ivydawn questioned as she slowly pushed herself out from underneath the she-cat.
Icebird leapt off of Ivydawn, making her flinch. She asked, "You aren't busy right now, right?"
Ivydawn quickly stood up, regaining balance. She shook her head and answered, "Nope."
"Well, since Leafwhisker agreed she would go train Barleypaw for me along side Frogpaw, I have this whole day to spend without having to be troubled by own apprentice. So since there really isn't anything to do, I thought I could spend it with you! I mean, if you want to hang out with me that is. Do you? I hope you do because I have nothing to do!" she explained, not taking a breath as she spoke. She only inhaled in some air once she was done explaining to Ivydawn.
Ivydawn's smirk got a little bigger. "Of course, Icebird! What do you want to do?"
"Hunting with the two of us just being the only ones there? Walking in the forest together?" Icebird quickly answered, having a wide grin on her face as she jumped in front of Ivydawn.
Ivydawn glanced over at the fresh-kill pile. The recent hunting patrol wasn't able to get that much, so another was sent out to get enough for the Clan. It wouldn't do any harm if the two of them went hunting alone without being on a patrol. Beside, hunting some more prey would be sure to benefit the Clan for sure. She looked back at the snowy-white ShadowClan warrior.
"I see no harm in doing something like that," Ivydawn responded, padding over to be at Icebird's side.
"Great! Let's go now," Icebird squealed as if she was an excited kit who was told they would be an apprentice the next sunrise.
The two she-cat padded side by side, walking out of camp. The fallen leaves of leaf-fall surrounded them. Sounds of leaves quickly crunching were heard with every step of theirs. Leaves from nearby trees also started to fall on their pelts. A small shake easily got off the warm-colored leaves as they walked.
"Who knows what we'll catch in the forest with the season being like this. Leaf-fall is always a wild season. It's so unpredictable. I would even say it's even more unpredictable than bare-leaf ," Icebird commented as she watched the leaves fall, almost being hypnotized by their movement. The yellow, red, and orange leaves danced around the cats.
"Yeah, I wonder what's still around in leaf-fall," Ivydawn replied.
"Who knows? Maybe we'll even find the Creeper in a season like this," she chuckled.
Ivydawn sighed with annoyance as she looked away, her ears bending back. "Oh come on, that's some kit's tale. Why do all of you still believe in a story like that?"
"It's because I believe. I believe that something as terrifying as the Creeper going to be creeping around one of these days. Hahaha, creeping. I get it now!" Icebird insisted.
"And I don't believe it because I actually have a mind. I know what sounds impossible, and what's possible in this world," she grunted.
