Chapter 1- I Didn't Do It

Trailer above by -idiosyncratic

I've always hated parties. I never understood why people would want to drink until you weren't in control and didn't remember anything the next day.

I always try to avoid going to parties by making excuses, like I have homework or I have plans with my family, just to get out of those parties.

I usually hang out with my friend Ally at the parties that Caitlyn makes us go to since She hates those parties as well. We never drink, we honestly just awkwardly sit in the kitchen talking while the underage teens drink their lives away. We wait until around midnight when Caitlyn is either dancing or upstairs with a guy and then we leave and hang at my place watching movies.

But yesterday was one of the worst days of summer for all of us. Everything good that happened during the summer didn't even matter at that point. One of my best friend's turned their back on me, doing something I didn't think she was capable of doing and that's when I decided to turn into one of the teens who go to those parties. I drank a lot and I had no idea what I was drinking, but it didn't even matter then. It didn't now either, or so I thought.

I opened my eyes and then immediately shut them again, being blinded from the sunlight. I felt like I was going to be sick and my head was pounding. After a few minutes of adjusting to the light I opened my eyes to see a road ahead of me.

I quickly looked around, which probably wasn't a good idea since my head was still hurting. I was in a car? I looked over to see a blond haired boy in the passengers seat beside me huddled into a ball.

I quickly got out of the car and ran over to the forest lining, throwing up whatever was left in my system. I sat slumped against a tall tree trying to think of what had happened the night before.

I skipped past all the drama I wanted to forget for now and started to think of what happened after I started drinking. I remember talking to a guy who gave me a drink, which I happily took finishing in seconds, but I can't remember much after that.

I slowly walked over to the car, still wary of the blond stranger in the front seat. I opened the driver's door looking around for my phone hoping that it could at least tell me where I was.

I turned to the back seat seeing if it was back there and met a pair of brown eyes. I immediately let out a ear piercing scream and stumbled out of the car.

He groaned turning to me then looked around, eyes full of confusion. "Where the hell are we? Who are you?" He opened the car door getting out and shut it rather loudly, still looking at me. He looked to be around my age with brown hair and eyes.

"I-I don't know. I don't remember much from last night," I stuttered, standing up to meet his height.

He nodded, then cuffed his hands around his eyes to look in the car.

"Well hopefully one of them knows something. No phone I'm guessing?" He said looking back at me.

"Uh no I couldn't find one. Wait what do you mean one of them?" I walked back over to the car looking through the window seeing two other guys in the back.

"So is this your car?" I asked, looking at him. He had his shirt covering his nose looking around. "What's wrong with you?"

He looked straight at me, still covering his nose. "You don't smell that?"

I didn't smell anything, but that's probably from all the crying I did yesterday. Then I remembered getting sick only a few minutes ago. "I got sick when I woke up."

He shook his head. "Yeah that stinks but that's not what it is." He opened the car door looking around then closed it. He just started looking around at the tall trees and the road ahead of us.

"Sorry my nose is a little stuffed up, so I can't really smell anything," I apologize to him.

He's still looking around then as if an idea pops into his head was he walks behind the car. I followed him because there's not much I really can do.

He tries pulling it up but it wouldn't budge. "Hey go see if the keys are in the car," he demanded.

Rolling my eyes at his demanding attitude, I open the door seeing the keys in the ignition. I quickly pull it out and go back over to the boy's name I didn't know, handing it to him.

He put it in the key hole jiggling it a little before it turned all the way. He took out the keys tossing them to me, which I missed and had to walk over and grabbed off the ground.

He shook his head at me, opening the trunk and looking in. He yelled and started backing away from the car. I saw tears in his eyes and was confused as to what could be in the back for him to cry so easily. I quickly walked over to the car, looking back at the boy who was wide eyed, tears pouring down his face and he immediately covered his face with his hands and pulled his legs closer to him.

I swung around to figure out what had this older boy so freaked out.

His eyes were slightly opened as well as his mouth and he was really, really pale. He had raggedy clothes on and a little beard on his face, but he looked like he was in his mid-twenties.

Then I saw it. The blood soaking his shirt and pants was dried, so he must've been gone for a while. That's when I realized, I could have done this. I didn't remember what happened last night and you aren't in control when your drunk. I could have killed this man, but so could have one of the three boys here as well.

I turned away from the dead body, not being able to look anyone or I might get sick again. Turns out I wasn't the only one because the crying boy ran to the side of the road, hunching over, holding his stomach.

Tears were blurring my vision as I ran over to him, even though he may have killed the man in the trunk. I sat down behind him not wanting to get to close just in case he had.

"I-I couldn't-" he stuttered. "I couldn't have done that. Even if I was totally wasted, I couldn't have k-killed him. I swear please believe me I-I couldn't."

I knew that a male like him was physically shaped to kill someone without much trouble but the way he looked right now told me otherwise .Tears just kept steaming down his already red, puffy face as he stared at me. His eyes were filled with sadness, uncertainty, and fear.

"I know. I-" I wanted him to know that I didn't do it either because I didn't know what's going to happen. "I didn't either. I mean I just wouldn't be able to I cant even watched scary movies without getting sick, so there's no way I could do that I promise," I say, hoping he believes me.

He nodded still staring at me. I awkwardly scooted forward so I was next to him.

"So," I said staring off into the woods. "What's your name?"

He softly chuckles but says, "Carter."

"Avery," I said back to him, quietly. "So what are we going to do?"

I knew he didn't know, just like me. We didn't know what happened last night, who killed the man, where we were, so we were pretty much clueless.

"Well we're in the middle of nowhere, with two other people who have no idea what's happened or may have done i-" As if he just realizes something he jumps up. I quickly get up dusting off my pants.

"What? What's wrong besides-" I looked over to the trunk. "Well the obvious?"

"They could have done this. Them, the ones in the car." He says nervously. I think about it but why would they have got in the car with us?

"If they did that then why would they have stayed?" I questioned.

"I don't know. For their sick plan, I mean they just killed someone." He said loudly, pointing to the car.

"But what if their innocent? What if they wake up and are as scared as us?" I say softly, trying to calm him down a little.

"But what if they wake up and try to kill us?" He asks, his eyebrows raised.

"Well it would be harder to kill someone without a weapon right?" He nodded. "Then let's check them for weapons first. Ok?"

I know we could just walk down the road for help, but it wouldn't feel right leaving two possibly innocent boys out here.

I feel like Carter realized that as well. "Ok we'll see if they have weapons. If they do I'm running and if they don't we'll wake them and see if they know anything. Yeah?" He planned, looking at me for an approval.

I nodded as we walked over to the car. "I'll check the one in the back. You in the front." I said, not taking any objection seeing as the one in the front looked stronger and way more scary.

I opened the back door looking first on the floor and under the seat, since the boy was seating in the seat with his legs underneath him. I tried my best not to hit or touch him in anyway, scared to wake him. After I finished looking everywhere in the back I decided to be brave and check him for weapons.

After checking him for anything, I get out of the car closing the door softly.

I walked over to Carter and see that he's now checking the guy in the front for anything.

And just in a few seconds the guys shoved Carter out the car, resulting in him banging his head on the top of the car and banging his back painfully on the door, and landing on the road.

The guy immediately jumped on top of Carter and started throwing punches into his stomach. Carter tried to hit his face but he was too busy gasping for breath to do any damage.

Before I could really think about what I was about to do I ran and shoved the large guy off of him. I don't know what made me do it it but I felt like I had to protect him.

I don't really know what happened but I was on the ground in a second with an even worse headache than the one I woke up with.

My vision got really blurry and I attempted and failed at getting up.

"What the hell is wrong with you?" Carter shouted. Me? Oh he was talking to the other guy. That makes more sense.

"I'm so sorry I wasn't thinking I just-" The guy began to say.

I heard a gasp and tiredly looked over to the car to see the other the guy who is oblivious to everything that has happened.

Carter tugged on his hair, groaning. "This is a mess. All of this is just too crazy."

"What is?" The guy who knocked me down said.

Carter looked over at me and hurried over to me. "Are you ok Ave?"

"Yeah I just want to sleep now." He looked panicked for a second until I said, "I can't keep my eyes open any longer."

I shouldn't have fallen asleep by three guys who could potentially kill me in my sleep but I couldn't stay awake any longer. Twenty-four hours ago my life was amazing but after what happened last night and today my life was all messed up and confusing.

All I wanted to do now was sleep and maybe I could wake up in my comfy king-sized bed with my silky PJ's and all of this would just be some crazy dream.

But it all went downhill from there.

And I was not ready.
