"Stef, can we sit down and rest for a minute?" Mia huffed, the two were on one of their occasional hunts. Hunts meaning Stefan would stalk down defenceless animals whilst Mia scared them away in order to make the chase harder for him. She liked to call it "giving him a challenge." He liked to call it her way of "hinting he should diet."
"You're not even walking." Stefan glanced over his shoulder at the girl he was carrying on his back. This wasn't uncommon for them. Every time, after half an hour, Mia would get tired and Stefan would have to drag her the rest of the way. But he didn't mind, if anything he actually liked doing it.
"I'm exhausted for you, it's been an hour and you still haven't found anything." It was the day of the sacrifice so Stefan needed all the strength he could muster, he found his hunts were more enjoyable when Mia would accompany him. She'd had an explosive argument with Damon the night prior. Stefan wouldn't tell her but he'd heard her crying in her room, the sound causing his heart to wrench. So he just wanted to show her that he didn't agree with Damon's theories that she would betray them.
"Wait." Stefan paused, the sight of a deer speeding past them caught his attention. He ducked down rapidly almost making Mia slide off his back. Once he realised, he immediately stood up straight. "Sorry." He smiled sheepishly when she glared at him.
"What the fuck!" Mia exclaimed, "My skull could've smashed open, I'd be dead and it would be your fault." She got off him and began walking away, smirking because she knew he'd chase after her. "Clumsy motherfucker."
"Wait." He strolled beside her, putting his arm over her shoulder but she pretended not to care and continued looking ahead. Because of this, she hadn't noticed the large branch on the ground, causing her to trip.
She closed her eyes, bracing herself for the impact, however, was yet to hit the floor. A pair of strong hands latched onto her waist, he pulled her up, holding her back against his chest. "Your skull could've smashed open, you'd be dead and it would've been your own fault." Mia felt his breath fan across her cheek as he leaned in closer to whisper, "Clumsy motherfucker."
Her jaw dropped slightly at the fact he cursed at her but was also happy that he felt secure enough with her to let down his guard. "I fucking hate you." Mia chuckled, elbowing him in the stomach. They carried on walking for a while until the younger Salvatore had spotted a bunny, nuzzling beside a tree.
Mia sensed what the vampire was about to do and grabbed his arm, pulling him away from the animal's direction, "No, it's a baby. Just an innocent child!" Stefan struggled against her hold, confused by her unexpected strength, "Run, Thumper, Run!" Her shouts startled the bunny and it scarpered.
Stefan turned to her with an unamused look which quickly turned into a smile once he'd seen her grin. "I need to feed."
"You still can, look." She pointed to a larger rabbit that appeared to be on its last day. "Put him out of his misery instead of chasing the infants. It's old...like you...and your car."
"What do you have against my car?" He raised a brow, noticing how she never missed an opportunity to insult the vehicle. "It's a classic."
"Don't cry." Mia mocked, placing a hand on his shoulder, "It's just not my style. Actually, if I had a car I'd get one like it...just a newer model. Not ancient like yours."
"You need to learn how to drive first and I'm done teaching you." The vampire remarked, recalling the traumatic experience where she'd completely ignored traffic laws and almost hit several different objects.
"You know, in the time you wasted making fun of my inability to drive ... you let the rabbit get away." She beamed, gesturing to the empty space where the animal once stood. "You're getting sloppy, Stef."
"Then I'll just get the little bunny." He teased, knowing how she would react. As expected she grabbed his arm once again, resuming her role as an anchor.
"Okay, if you promise to leave the baby alone, I'll show you something I've never shown anyone before." She paused once realising how it sounded, ".. so it's obviously not my boobs."
Stefan's eyes widened upon hearing that but before he even had a chance to respond Mia held his hand, leading him deeper into the woods. She strolled past the trees, looking around as though she'd been there a thousand times.
They'd reached a clearing where a huge oak tree stood, Mia finally stopped and let go of his hand. Stefan tried to ignore the sinking feeling he got at the loss of contact, he turned his face so she wouldn't see the obvious disappointment visible. "It's a tree?"
"It's our tree." Mia corrected, showing him the initials that were engraved into the bark. "Mine and Jesse's." She traced over each letter, smiling softly at the memories. "We used to play here all the time, the Salvatore groundskeeper was really nice so he never yelled at us."
"The carvings are still clear." Stefan drifted his finger across it, causing their hands to brush against each other. He moved back, failing to notice the increase in her heart rate, they'd held hands before, it was the unintentional touching that seemed to affect them the most.
"The first thing I did when I moved in with you guys was find it again, I come here all the time and carve them in deeper ... so it doesn't fade." Mia looked up, fighting against the tears that were threatening to escape. She couldn't explain why but she'd been feeling intensely sensitive that morning, the urge to cry resurfacing with any inconvenience.
"We used to say that we'd live here someday. That Jesse would build us a house in the branches and we'd grow old and have kids called..." She halted, her brows furrowed as she searched her mind but came to no answer. "I can't remember...I can't."
She shook her head frantically, unable to pinpoint the true origin of her sadness. "I can't. Why can't I remember?!" Tears began to stream down her face as she quietly sobbed. "I should know this."
"Hey, it's okay." Stefan spoke gently. It was clear she had other reasons for her sorrow, Damon's insults, the fear of the sacrifice, she just needed an excuse to let it out. Forgetting a small detail about her childhood seemed to have set it all off.
"It's not okay, I should know this." Mia repeated as the Salvatore moved closer. "This is all I have left of him, I can't forget!"
Stefan quickly wrapped his arms around her as she bawled into his chest. "It's okay, you're just stressed. You'll remember in a minute." He rubbed her back for comfort, hating that he couldn't help her. "It's okay."
It killed him that someone as kind and selfless as Mia constantly went through so much pain. Since her childhood, life had been determined to take away everyone that mattered to her, he couldn't even imagine what it would be like to lose a sibling let alone a twin. Since she arrived in town he made extra effort to be considerate to her, he felt the need to protect her from any more harm.
After a few moments she'd calmed down and immediately felt embarrassed for wailing over what she believed to be a trivial matter. "Sorry." Mia muttered, moving away from his hold, "I don't know why I did that... that was really dramatic." The Petrova quickly dried the tears with her sleeves, "Let's pretend I didn't just cry over a tree."
"It's okay." Stefan said once again, he held her hand, trying to change the subject from the names, "So, what kind of house were you going to build?"
"Just a regular tree house, I think. We were gonna have a swing here." She pointed to the straight branch that hung over them, "When we turned 18 Jesse saved up money to buy the things we needed but... I got pregnant and locked in my room for 9 months."
Stefan nodded slowly, Mia rarely spoke about her human life with anyone other than Caroline. But now she'd shown him something that was extremely special to her, he couldn't find the words to describe how he felt about it. It wasn't pride or joy, just a sort of comfort that someone trusted him enough. They both glanced down at their hands that were still entwined.
"You know, you can talk to me about this kind of stuff." He began, "You helped me the most with my ... feeding issues. Let me help you."
"I'm fine, I don't need help." Mia brushed off, turning away slightly to avoid eye contact, "I'm fine."
He wanted to object, knowing all too well what it was like to keep everything bottled up. The last thing he wanted for Mia was for her to suffer alone. Instead, he sought to take the brunette's mind off it.
The Salvatore looked around for something to distract her with until a small rabbit hopped along the pathway, catching their intention. He turned to her with a smirk and took off sprinting towards the animal.
"Stefan don't!" Mia shouted, chasing after him.

It was Senior Prank Night which meant some of the students were in the school to vandalise the property. However, Mia expressed her confusion about the activity stating that it would've been wiser for them to do it after graduation as they could still be punished for their actions when they were students. No one paid any attention to her doubts so she made a promise to herself that she wouldn't help any of them if they got detention.
Caroline dragged her to the school but surprisingly causing chaos wasn't the brunette's main priority that evening, instead she'd snuck off to an empty classroom with a certain human.
"That was fun." Dana giggled, pulling her sweater over her head, she threw Mia's shirt in her direction and leaned back against the desk, admiring the girl's body as she got dressed. "I can cross it off my bucket list."
"If Care realises we're not putting foam in the pool, you won't get to finish that list." Mia joked as she fixed her top, the two girls had been spending an increasing amount of time together but were yet to put a label on it. The Petrova didn't want to pressure Dana into anything but she couldn't stop herself from wondering what they could lead to. She decided to ask just for her peace of mind, the human responded by saying they were whatever she wanted to be, this meant Mia just had to figure out what that was.
"That wouldn't bother me." Dana replied, she walked up to the girl and held her face, "After this, I can die happy." She leaned in for a gentle peck but Mia pulled on her sweater, bringing her closer and deepening the kiss.
"I thought you said we have to go." Dana teased, sighing softly whilst Mia's lips left hers and travelled down her neck, "Caroline's gonna kill us."
"Let her." The brunette dismissed, she moved forward so their bodies were pressed against the wall, that was until a few voices sounded from nearby. Fucking morons. Mia pulled away and rolled her eyes at the inconvenience, "To be continued, I guess."
"Actually.." Dana began, entwining their fingers to lead them to the door, "The drama theatre has a couch." She looked back at the girl with a smirk and kissed her once more.
They stumbled out of the classroom, neither of them mustering up the strength to break the kiss. The people who were in the corridor had gone, leaving it completely silent, they were alone...or so they thought.
Due to the fact they'd both been distracted by each other's presence, they failed to see the box of shaving foam on the floor which caused them to trip and land on the ground with a thud. The two broke out into a fit of hysterical laughter, the noises echoing through the hallway, catching the attention of a special individual.
"Are you okay?" Mia asked Dana whose body had broken her fall, she was used to the Petrova being on top anyways. Mia rolled off the girl as tears steamed up her eyes. She clutched her stomach, the laughter showing no sign of stopping. The brunette got up from the ground and held her hand out, pulling the human up. "No bumps, bruises?"
"I'm fine." Dana reassured her, "More than fine, this is probably the happiest I've been in a long time." Earlier that year Dana's mother had passed away, her father lived in Toronto with his other family, this meant she only had her elder sister as a guardian. They got on well but the Quinn girl let the grief overtake her for a few months, she would skip school and spend her days drinking heavily.
However that all ended when she'd been given something new to focus on, her mood lightened automatically whenever she'd spend time with Mia. She didn't like to talk about her issues but with her, she wasn't able to stop herself from sharing everything, the vampire had an inviting comforting presence that made her feel safe. But that only meant that when they'd part, her grief and sorrow would return tenfold, she ached for a fresh start, to be far away from the town that had caused her nothing but pain.
"I'm gonna fuck up the idiot that left the box here." Mia huffed, kicking it to the side so no one else would trip up. She linked arms with Dana and continued walking down the corridor.
Once they turned the corner they came face to face with somebody she was hoping to never cross again, Klaus Mikaelson.
"Hello, Trouble." The hybrid smiled at her, he could've sworn she'd gotten even more beautiful in their time apart. Also, since she expressed her disliking for her old nickname he'd chosen one which was more fitting to her newfound attitude.
"What the fuck are you doing here?" Mia questioned, she stood in front of Dana protectively, the gesture hadn't gone unnoticed by him. Klaus took in both their appearances, their hair slightly unkempt and rumpled clothing.
The only thing that was stopping him from ripping Dana's heart out of her chest was that he'd have to push Mia out of the way, instead, he decided to be petty. "Well isn't this nice, I've got to hand it to you Dana I never saw you as the cruel type, but then again, what is it that they say?" His smirk grew as he saw the confusion in the Petrova's face. "Ah yes... it's always the quiet ones you've got to watch out for."
"She's not cruel." Mia objected, holding the girl's hand which only seemed to anger Klaus even more. "You don't even know her."
"Don't I?" He raised a brow and looked straight at the human, "Do you want to tell her, or shall I?"
"Tell me what?" The brunette quizzed, she glanced at Dana who turned away, avoiding eye contact. "Dana? What do you need to tell me?"
"It seems young Dana has been playing you for a fool, trivialising your feelings." Before Mia could do anything Klaus yanked the mortal towards him and held her down by the shoulders so the guilt on her face could be seen by the female vampire. "You see, earlier this year before I left town I had compelled her....to take care of you."
He'd met the human girl when he was in possession of Alaric's body, she would undertake certain tasks for him so when the time came for him to leave with Stefan he thought it would be wise to have someone on the inside to make sure Mia had company. Klaus chose a girl to manage it for a specific reason, he assumed it was less likely for a romantic bond to be established. What he didn't count on was the fact Mia was attracted to people based on their personality rather than gender.
As wrong as it sounds, in the 20s he'd never thought about the possibility of her not being heterosexual. This wasn't because of any prejudicial views, the hybrid had been around long enough to know sexuality wasn't something to hold against or punish individuals for, to him love was the same no matter who it was directed to. Over the years Klaus had slept with countless people, and they weren't always women.
However, he was Mia's first love which is why she never had time to see if she could love women the same way. But what he didn't know was during that one month where he was ignoring her, Mia and Rebekah had gotten very drunk which lead to an innocent, playful kiss. That was enough for the Petrova to realise her preferences had broadened, she obviously couldn't remember that but her likings stayed with her.
Of course Rebekah wasn't the first girl she'd ever felt that attraction for, when she was human and living in Mystic Falls there was no shortage of beautiful women that caught her eye but the Mikaelson was the first one she'd ever kissed.
Finding out about this of course didn't dampen his love for her, if anything it just meant he had more people to watch out for, more people who were a threat to getting what he wanted. An increase in obstacles he'd have to get rid of swiftly.
What the actual fuck. Suddenly everything made sense, the fact Dana hadn't even interacted with Mia until summer, how she would keep repeating that same phrase whenever they'd spend time together. Elijah had his suspicions that time in the alleyway but Mia brushed it off, he'd been right about it. The Petrova felt the need to help and comfort her, yet in these past few weeks, it was Mia who was the clueless one, the one that was being led on.
In her mind, she only had herself to blame, even after the countless heartbreaks she'd gone through in the past, it never stopped her from falling for people quickly, regardless of their flaws or ulterior motives. However that was usually with other vampires, she'd never expected to have to be wary around humans. "It's not her fault, she wouldn't have done it if you never compelled her." The glint of pain in her eyes caused his heart to twinge, he knew he wouldn't be able to hold her, console if she started to cry.
"I only told her to watch out for you, not to get too close. Not to deceive you into believing her affections were genuine, the pretty fool did all that on her own." He gripped Dana's chin harshly, thinking of all the ways he would make her pay for hurting his girl. "Did you get a kick out of it, taking advantage of her?"
"N-No, it wasn't like that." Dana stuttered as she tried to stop herself from crying, "At first it was but... I really like her." She faced Mia who wore a blank face, the immortal didn't want Klaus to see her cry, it would mean he won. "I promise, everything I've felt for you was all me."
"It's a shame she can't count on anything you say, you took it too far." He acted with such a speed the Petrova couldn't even react, Klaus pulled Dana's head back, and just as he was about to sink his teeth into her neck the main reason he came back to Mystic Falls appeared. Mia mentally slapped herself for forgetting Elena was in the school, the time she wasted listening to Klaus would've been enough to get her descendant home.
Elena's eyes widened at the sight before her, she whipped around to run but the hybrid sped in front of her. "You are supposed to be dead." The doppelganger gulped as he took a step forward, "What are we gonna do about that?"
He grabbed her by the arm and charged down the hallway with Mia trailing behind them, yelling at the man. "Let her go you cunt!" She began whacking her fists against his back but he paid no attention to her, even though it caused him pain, she'd gotten frighteningly stronger. With each punch came a slanderous comment, "Get your hands off her you pretentious piece of shit!"
"I'm afraid I can't do that Sweetheart." Klaus moved Elena and held her other arm, he then caught Mia's wrist with his spare hand which, as expected, she didn't take lightly, But it didn't matter how much she tried to free herself his grip remained tight. "The whole point of breaking the curse and becoming a hybrid was to create more hybrids. I haven't been able to do that. Now, my bet is it has something to do with the fact this one is still breathing."
Awh, cute. He wants kids. Mia mused sarcastically in her head, there was no point voicing it, he always brushed off the rude words she fired at him. She thought back to when she told him he wasn't father material, but also knew it was extremely likely he wanted the hybrids to do his bidding, rather than teach them how to ride bikes and play baseball.
Elena winced as his hold became stronger, she glanced back at Dana who was crying silently, it made her feel guilty that her life always seemed to drag innocent people into the crossfire, "If you're going to kill me, just do it, but leave Mia and Dana out of it."
"Not until I know I'm right." Klaus snapped back, "But I do have ways of making you suffer. And might I add, you're in no position to make demands." He felt a sting on his hand, which was caused by Mia relentlessly digging her nails into his skin. The hybrid released Elena and pushed her through the door, he then bent down and wrapped his arms around Mia's thighs before lifting her up so her stomach was resting on his shoulder.
"Put me down!" Her series of punches began once again, Klaus knew her too well that he was able to sense her next action would be to start kicking him so he held her legs to his chest. "Klaus, I can walk by myself."
"I think I prefer to take you everywhere this way." Klaus fought back against laughing when he recalled a similar situation that happened in the 20s, just a day before she was killed. Once they reached the gym he put on an accent and shouted "Attention seniors! You have officially been busted. Prank night is over, head on home!"
Mia's brows furrowed in disgust and slight concern for his mental state, "I will pay you a large amount of cash if you promise to never speak like that again." Klaus ignored her remark, his hand absentmindedly stroked the back of her thigh, he appreciated how much easier it was when she wasn't fighting.
He'd jinxed it.
The Petrovas was mumbling curses at him whilst her fellow students were leaving the hall, however Fred, who was her lab partner for a week when Bonnie was ill, decided to speak up about the strange sight, someone who he assumed was a teacher carrying a student over their shoulder. "Are you okay Mia?"
"Fucking prick I swear when I get down..." She hadn't even noticed the boy was there until he cleared his throat, the brunette looked up and plastered a fake smile, "Hi Freddie, how are you?"
"I'm...good, are you?" Fred asked hesitantly, it was then Klaus turned around to face him and glared, which meant Mia couldn't see what was happening. She made eye contact with Elena and tilted her head as a signal for her to run but the Gilbert shook her head back, the last thing she wanted to do was leave them if they were all in danger.
"She's fine." Klaus deadpanned, he squeezed her calf as a playful warning, "Aren't you?"
"I'm great, this is just a game we play." Mia exaggerated a laugh and patted his back repeatedly in a friendly manner, the hits getting harder each time. Klaus rotated them once again so she could smile and wave at Fred as he walked away "Enjoy the rest of your vacation. Bye!" Once he was out of sight she dropped the cheerful tone, "Put me down you prick."
"All you had to do was ask nicely," Klaus responded, placing her back on the ground. He grinned at her, watching as she fixed her clothes, his eyes darted to the immense amount of cleavage that was showing but he looked away in a split second, chastising himself for the lack of self-control.
It wasn't until he heard Elena whisper something to Chad that he was snapped back to reality, forgetting that he and Mia weren't the only ones in the room. "Right, let's get down to it shall we?" The hybrid stared into Dana's eyes and began to compel her, "Lift your foot up, please Dana." She obeyed and lifted her leg off the ground, seeing her under his control made Mia feel sick, she wondered what else he'd gotten her to do and if he told Dana to seduce her as a cruel joke.
Klaus looked at the boy next to Dana and repeated his actions but this time with a different command, "If she drops her foot Chad, I want you to beat her to death, Understood?" Upon hearing his words Dana let out a cry, Mia wondered how long it would take for Klaus to stake her if she grabbed the humans and ran.
It was known knowledge he had a talent for holding grudges, even though he was being nice to her she thought it was best not to test his limits, she couldn't die now, not when all her friends needed her help. However her mind was quickly changed when she saw Dana trembling, it was clear she was on the verge of falling, from the corner of her eye she caught sight of Chad clenching his fists, ready to brutally kill her.
Within a flash Mia dashed towards the girl and zoomed out of the gym, she felt horrible for leaving Chad behind but he was standing too far away for her to be able to get them both. Klaus sighed with disappointment, murdering the Quinn girl was something he was rather looking forward to doing.
Once they were out of the hall Mia held Dana's face, glancing back in case Klaus decided to follow them, "We're gonna die!" The human sobbed hysterically and her entire body shook. "I don't want to die, I just want to leave this place."
"Hey, look at me." Mia spoke softly, caressing her hair, "You're not going to die, I promise you. I need you to do me a favour, okay," She looked into her blue eyes, they were her favourite feature on every person, the brunette debated compelling Dana but had been put off by the recent circumstances. "I need you to hide, go to the classroom we were in earlier and hide."
Dana nodded, her crying failing to end, "What about you, he's like obsessed with you, you're not safe." A part of her was afraid Mia would never want to speak to her again after finding everything out, every time they hung out she wanted to tell her but found her ability to say that much had been restricted.
Yes, Klaus was the main reason she approached the vampire but after getting to know her the affection was close to becoming love, "I'm sorry about this whole thing, he made me do it, I hated lying to you."
"It's okay, it wasn't your fault. This summer has been amazing, being with you has been amazing." Mia comforted her, kissing her forehead, "I know you wouldn't have done any of it but..." She hesitated but knew she owed it to Dana to be completely honest, "I can't trust you, or believe anything that you say...because I don't know if it's you speaking or him."
Dana opened her mouth to object but understood fully, tears rolled down her face as she felt one of the only things she cared about being ripped away from her. Mia was obviously downcast by what was happening but for some reason, she couldn't bring herself to cry, in fact, she couldn't even remember the last time she'd shed tears in sadness, she'd lost so many people in her life that saying goodbye had simply become second nature to her.
Their relationship had reached the final stage in Mia's usual cycle, it was time to let her go.
"I'm gonna fix everything for you, I promise. You've always wanted to leave this shit hole, I'll make that happen. But first, you need to hide." She brought her in for a gentle peck on the lips and stepped back, slowly releasing Dana from her hold, the Petrova's body grew cold at the loss of touch, all she could do was watch as the human walked away. She knew she'd have to get Caroline to undertake what needed to be done.
"Bonnie get out of here!" Elena's voice echoed through the halls, Mia felt her heart drop at the thought of anything happening to the witch, she took off in a run and went back to the gym.
~~~~
Klaus smiled when he'd seen her barge in, after spending almost a century apart some would think he was used to not seeing her, but the truth was he missed her every time she left the room, longing for her return.
Mia looked at Bonnie and sighed with relief that she appeared unscathed, she noticed Caroline's absence and hoped the Forbes girl was somewhere safe.
Someone else had walked in through the opposite door, it was a blonde woman, who was too busy pulling Tyler across the room to take notice of the Petrova. "Let go of him bitch!" Mia shoved the girl back violently which caused her to lose the Lockwood boy, however, Klaus quickly grabbed onto him.
"What a nasty little-" The woman turned around, ready to smack whoever pushed her but her eyes widened when she saw Mia stood in front of her. Her demeanour immediately softened, she brought a hand up and cupped the brunette's cheek, eyes becoming glazed as Mia glared at her, she'd become used to random people touching her.
"Rebekah." Klaus piped up with a warning tone, he'd told her about everything that had happened since he returned to Mystic Falls to break his curse, including the fact Mia was there and now despised him. He also told her that if she was to even hint at anything from their past the dagger would end up back in her chest. Returning the memories was too risky with the condition of their relationship, it was likely the confusion would be too much for Mia to handle and she would run...just as she ran from the Fells, he thought.
"I'd like you all to meet my sister Rebekah." Klaus announced suddenly, "Word of warning she can be quite mean." Mia stared at the girl, remembering that Elijah had told her he had a sister. He also said he believed they would get along well, Mia couldn't see that happening at that current moment however the way the blonde was looking at her was enough to confirm she was different than Klaus.
"Don't be an arse," Rebekah murmured, she was too busy focussing on her old best friend to argue with her brother. The fact she still had Mia's face in her hand was confusing to everyone in the gym, "Hello sweet girl." She whispered softly, wanting nothing more than to embrace her, her heart ached when Mia flinched away.
"Enough!" The hybrid yelled, dragging Tyler to the middle of the gym. "I'm going to make this very simple. Every time I attempt to turn a werewolf into a vampire hybrid, they die during transition. It's quite horrible, actually."
He bit into his wrist, piercing the skin enough for the blood to flow out, he then pressed it forcefully to Tyler's mouth. The Lockwood jerked his body around, knowing what was about to happen. Mia tried to lunge forward but Rebekah latched onto her, the blonde closed her eyes, if she couldn't see anything it was easier to pretend that they were hugging after all these years.
"I need you to find a way to save my hybrids, Bonnie." Klaus began, he wrapped one arm around the werewolf's neck and placed the other at the bottom of his jaw. "And for Tyler's sake...you better hurry." With one twist of his arm, Tyler's neck was snapped and his corpse dropped to the floor.
"No!" Mia shrieked, she brushed Rebekah away from her and ran to the boy. "Tyler, wake up please." She rested his head on her lap and wiped away the remnants of Klaus' blood on his lips with her sleeve. The brunette fought against the screams that wanted to leave her, just like that she'd lost another person within the same hour, as far as they knew there was nothing to stop the hybrids from dying in transition.
She drowned out all the noises surrounding her and rocked him, "Despierta, habré los ojos, por favor." Wake up, open your eyes, please. The two Mikaelsons glanced at each other, small smiles appearing on their faces, Mia had always said how much she wanted to learn Spanish, Rebekah promised to teach her but couldn't find the time.
Klaus hadn't realised how attractive someone speaking in their native language was, he made a note to brush up on his Spanish so he could converse with her later on.
Mia stroked Tyler's hair, goose bumps rose to her skin at the silence taking place where his heartbeat should've been. It was no secret his transition to a werewolf had been difficult, he had very little knowledge when his curse was first triggered and lost the only family member that could've helped him. Caroline and Mia stayed with him for his first transition, his screams and bones snapping were almost unbearable to hear.
The brunette worried about how he would deal with becoming not only a vampire but a hybrid. A werewolf's temper amplified tenfold, along with the constant hunger that came with it.
"So this is the latest doppelganger." Rebekah arched a brow judgingly as she stood in front of Elena. "The Original one was much prettier."
"Isn't the whole point of the doppelgangers that they all look the exact same." Mia snarked, catching their attention. "It's in the word, doppel...double."
"Actually darling, personality can change a person's looks drastically." Rebekah knelt down to her level and tucked a lock of hair behind her ear. "The right confidence, attitude...moxie, it makes a girl glow." Although vampires didn't age Mia's appearance was definitely different, just as the blonde said a new personality was enough to transform someone. "Elena doesn't have any of that."
"Enough, Rebekah." Klaus nagged, he was wary of how obvious his sister was making their whole situation. "Take the werewolf boy elsewhere, would you?"
"You're going to have to let go of him, Sweetness." Rebekah said gently, motioning to Mia's hand that was entwined with Tyler's. She thought it was best to oblige so she stood up and began following the Original who was holding her friend by his arm and hauling him across the ground.
However, Klaus moved in front of her, blocking her way. He despised the fact she seemed to care so much for another man, "Why don't you stay here with me, love."
"Because I would rather take off my daylight ring, stand outside, and eat a ton of vervain than voluntarily spend time with you." Mia quipped with a sharp tone, Rebekah's cackles could be heard from outside, she preferred it when someone insulted Klaus just as much as she did.
"You wound me." Klaus chuckled, taking a hint wasn't one of the hybrid's strengths. "Come sit with me." He threw his arm over her shoulder and lead her to the bleachers and took a seat, Mia on the other hand stayed stood up and turned around so her back faced him.
Once again his gaze began to move on its own accord, travelling down her form, modern clothing suited her more than he could describe.
"I can feel you staring at me, stalker," Mia remarked, glancing back at him, Klaus wore an unapologetic face which earned him an exhausted sigh from the Petrova, she sat down beside him.
Klaus' eyes didn't leave her but too much was going on in her mind for her to notice. If Bonnie couldn't find a way to save the hybrids then Tyler would die, Mia wondered how many people she would have to lose until she reached her breaking point. If anything she found it strange that it hadn't happened already, she never knew her father, she'd lost her mother, sister, Jesse, Lexi, Jenna, and Andie. The list was most likely longer but it gave her a headache to dwell on it.
She closed her eyes and clasped her hands together as Klaus looked at her in confusion. It was as if she was casting a spell...or praying.
The sound of the gym door opening broke her thoughts and Stefan walked in. "Come to save your damsel, mate?" Klaus mocked, the sigh of relief Mia let out upon seeing him didn't go unnoticed by the hybrid.
"I came to ask your forgiveness..." Stefan stated, he looked at Mia and tilted his head upwards to ask if she was okay, she responded by cocking hers to the side, so he continued. "...And pledge my loyalty."
Klaus glanced at the two, he leaned back against the bleacher, his hand automatically took its place on Mia's thigh, "Well, you've broke that pledge once already."
"Elena means nothing to me anymore." The Salvatore lied, stepping forward. Once again his eyes darted to the vampire Petrova which irked Klaus even more. Stefan should've been there to save Elena but wouldn't shift his focus from Mia. "None of them do. And whatever you ask of me...I will do." The girl moved away from Klaus, her gaze fixed on Stefan...that was his final straw.
"Fair enough, let's drink on it." Klaus got up from his seat and walked to the middle, Mia followed suit, worried about what he would do. "Kill him." He pointed at Chad, the human stood up and began stumbling back in fear.
Stefan remained glued to the spot, clenching his fists. "What are you waiting for?" Klaus smirked at his helplessness, "Kill him."
"No, Stefan don't." Elena shook her head, she knew the hybrid was bluffing. "He's not going to kill me he already said-" As she was speaking Mia noticed Klaus about to lunge forward, in that moment all she saw was red. The Petrova dashed to the doppelganger and shoved her out the way, she did it without realising.
Klaus just about registered what had happened, he stopped abruptly before his hand could come in contact with her face. His eyes grew wide, if he'd hesitated for even a second he would've hit Mia, he would've hurt the one person he never wanted to hurt. What shocked him the most was that she wasn't even fazed, she so recklessly put herself in danger to protect another.
Stefan knew the hybrid wouldn't harm Mia but the fact he almost had was good enough reason to attack. The Salvatore charged towards the man with his fangs extended however Klaus had sense him coming and whipped around, grabbing him by the throat.
"They mean nothing to you?" He provoked, it offended him Stefan brought him on himself to try and defend what wasn't his. "Your lies just keep piling up."
"Let them go. I'll do whatever you want." Stefan begged, his words coming out strained as Klaus' grip on his neck became tighter. "You have my word." The two men continued with their struggle whilst Elena approached her ancestor.
"Are you okay?" She whispered to Mia, she held the girl's hand and wondered how much it would've hurt if she hadn't been pushed away. "Thank you."
"Realmente odio a ese hombre" I really hate that man. Mia muttered, both Petrovas became alarmed when Klaus began to stare into Stefan's eyes, he was compelling him.
"You will do exactly as I say when I say it." It was the first time since the 20s that he had to resort to this method of taking control with Stefan, the Salvatore didn't seem to have an issue doing his bidding in the summer but Klaus now deduced it was because he wanted to keep him distracted, keep his mind away from the possibility of Elena being alive. "You will not run, you will not hide, you will simply just obey."
"You don't have to do this!" Mia shouted, bloodlust had controlled Stefan for so many years and now his mind had been captured by another.
"I just did, Sweetheart." Stefan stood still as the compulsion locked in, his lips parted in shock, his freedom had just been taken away from him. "Now kill him." Klaus spoke with a low tone, adding to the eeriness, he stepped to the side with his arm out, "Ripper."
They watched as dark veins rose to the surface under Stefan's eyes as the green in his irises faded and was overtaken by a shadow shade. Within a flash he'd grabbed onto Chad and sunk his teeth into the human's neck, screams echoed through the gym, the girls could do nothing but let everything unfold. If Elena tried to intervene Klaus would probably hurt her, if Mia had he would've simply removed her and locked her out of the room.
~~~~
The Salvatore fed until there was nothing left to drink, almost every part of him was urging him to stop but he couldn't, fighting compulsion was almost impossible, especially one done by an Original. "It's always nice to see a vampire in his true element." He moved between the two Petrovas, the heartbreak was evident in both their expressions, after spending a vast amount of their time the previous year helping Stefan with his blood addiction, they were now back where they started.
"The species has become such a broody lot...with the exception of a few." Klaus gazed at Mia, the oddly placed lights of the gym shone down on them, she'd changed the way her hair was styled. The curls used to be more defined, wild in the most beautiful way, one of his favourite things to do was run his fingers through the soft strands.
He gritted his teeth in frustration, it was the little things he missed the most. Listening to her trying to explain something which ended up going down several subplots and pure rambling, waking up to her head rested on his chest as she clinged to him, the sounds she would make when he-
"You know, you're a piece of shit." Mia snapped, interrupting his thoughts. "Every bad thing anybody says about you is true. You made him like this."
"I invited him to the party, my love. He's the one dancing on the table." He leaned in closer, "One can only restrict their true self for so long. It was only a matter of time before it happened to Stefan. I simply sped up the process."
"Where is it?!" Rebekah stormed into the gym, "Where's my necklace?!"
"What are you talking about?" Klaus asked, quite annoyed. Since he undaggered his sister she'd been nothing but a nuisance, at this point he was prepared to stab her again.
"She has my necklace. Look." She held up Caroline's phone and showed him a picture of the couple, resting on Elena's chest was the very thing they'd been searching for.
"Well, well. More lies." Klaus remarked, glaring at Stefan. Once again he'd been deceived, that day in Chicago they had Gloria try to track it down, unaware that the Salvatore knew where it was.
"Where is it?" Rebekah fumed, veins also appearing as her rage grew. When Elena denied having it in her possession the Original went for her, piercing her neck with fangs until she was pulled off by her brother.
"Knock it off!" Klaus scolded, taking her to the side.
"Make her tell me where it is, Nik!" She whined, Mia looked at the fury in her eyes, the blood on her lips, now she could truly see the resemblance between her and Klaus.
Time was a funny thing, in some cases it could change absolutely nothing but here it was almost hilarious how it'd affected this quartet. Rebekah, Klaus, Mia, and Stefan. The four of them in the same room after almost a century, the mood drastically different to the last time.
"Gather round, please." A photographer ushered the group to stand by the bar. "Squeeze together."
"Stefan, would you at least smile." Rebekah complained as she elbowed him in the ribs. "You look practically mournful."
"Why are we doing this, again?" Stefan quizzed, straightening out his blazer. The last thing he wanted to do was put on this façade that he truly cared about the Mikaelsons.
"Because Mr Salvatore." Mia started, she stood beside Klaus and fixed her hair. "One day when you're old and incompetent we'll show you this to trigger your memory." She grinned at him, not knowing that she would be the one left without recollection of the events. "It's just for fun, please try to look even remotely joyful."
"Okay." Stefan smiled at her, his eyes darted to her glossed lips before he received another nudge from Rebekah.
"And how do I look, Miss Peterson?" Klaus asked, wanting her attention to be on him and only him.
"Adequate, I suppose." Mia teased, before he had a chance to take offense she held his chin and peppered multiple kisses on his cheek, "You look wonderful, very handsome." Just as she was about to face away Klaus pulled her in by her pearl necklace and kissed her lips.
Stefan looked away in annoyance, the smile she'd given him had now faded. "Can we get this over with?"
"Cheer up, mate. Broody isn't a good look for you." Klaus patted his shoulder then wrapped an arm around Mia's waist. He'd kissed his lover in front of Stefan on purpose, it amused him to see the disgust and jealousy flash in his eyes.
"Okay, 5,4,3.." The photographer began a countdown whilst the quartet put on their best smiles, he pressed the button and a strong flash illuminated their skin.
"Twenty minutes." Klaus turned the gym clock on and approached Stefan, "If Bonnie hasn't found a solution by then, I want you to feed again. Only this time...I want you to feed on Elena." The Gilbert girl gasped once she'd seen Klaus compel him, "You know you want to."
"No, Klaus! Don't do this to him." Elena begged, Rebekah, giggled, finding her poor attempt at grovelling hilarious.
"No one leaves." Klaus began to walk out until he realised he almost made the most foolish mistake. "Mia, come on. I can't have you whisking another one to safety." When she ignored him and stayed put, he grabbed her wrist.
However, Rebekah pulled the Petrova closer to her instead, "Get your hands off her." She didn't trust her brother around Mia anymore, he'd taken away her best friend. It hurt her that Mia wouldn't look at her the same way.
"Where's Dana?" Klaus asked as the trio walked down the hallway, Rebekah smiled to herself when she felt Mia hold her hand, the Petrova felt safer around her than she did with Klaus.
"You really think I'm gonna tell you?" Mia raised her brows, scowling at him. "I don't know why you're tryna act like the hero now. You can go straight to hell, she never did anything wrong."
"She hurt you." Klaus began but was interrupted. He knew he was in the wrong but also convinced himself that Dana had malicious intentions, despite being an innocent human girl. In his defence he never compelled her to sleep with Mia.
"Bullshit! You hurt me!" Mia fired back, "She only did what you told her to do."
"Who's Dana?" Rebekah looked back and forth between the two, becoming more confused by the second, "What did Nik make her do?"
"Do you want to tell her or shall I?" Mia mocked his accent and walked ahead of them, letting go of Rebekah's hand.
"What did you do?" The blonde Mikaelson fumed, it baffled her how her brother continued to make mistakes when it came to Mia, even after all this time.
"I've made a mess of things." Klaus sighed, rubbing his temples as he gazed at the girl strolling in front of him. "I'll fix it."
"No, you won't do anything." Rebekah retorted, "I didn't even think it was possible for a person to ruin things so dreadfully."
~~~~
"Why hasn't he woken up yet?" Caroline paced up and down the classroom, Tyler's motionless body was laid on the desk. "He should be awake by now."
"Maybe it's different with hybrids," Mia told her, she stood behind the girl and wrapped her arms around her, resting her chin upon her shoulder. "He'll be okay, don't worry." Rebekah watched the two with envy, it didn't seem right.
Mia was her friend, she was the one who should've been getting hugs like that. However she took a small comfort in the fact that the Petrova had chosen another blonde as a best friend. To her, it meant that Mia was drawn to things that were subtly related to the Original.
"You'd better hope your witch can find a fix." Klaus spoke up, edging Mia's anger with him even further. The hybrid rummaged through the prank bag next to him and pulled out a pair of handcuffs, staring at them in confusion. "Otherwise it's curtains for young Tyler."
"Your life must be really sad." Mia put forth, ignoring Caroline's small warning pinches. She made her way to Klaus, their chests touching as they stood close. "Imagine breaking a curse after a millennium just to make little minions. So you'll actually have people to talk to rather than the bodies of your decaying siblings who have daggers stuck in them because you're too much of a spoiled bitch to deal with them going against you. You're meant to be one of the most powerful beings but you can't even turn hybrids without the help of a 17-year-old. And this whole persona is just an act to cover up your fear of being alone...it's pathetic."
"Ooh shit!" Caroline broke out into hysterical laughter, she debated giving her friend a round of applause. This was enough reason for the Mikaelson girl to attack her, she was searching for a reason to anyways.
"Keep your mouth shut!" Rebekah grabbed a pencil and launched it at the other blonde. It stabbed her in the shoulder and she yelped in agony. "Nik?"
Klaus simply remained silent, trying hard to hide the pain he was feeling in that moment but it was evident in his eyes, what hurt the most was it was all true. Every word.
The tension was put on hold when Tyler shot up gasping for air, Caroline rushed to his side after taking a few seconds to pull out the piece of stationary from her arm. "Are you okay?"
"What's going on?" Tyler questioned, taking in his surroundings. His brain ached, feeling as if it was being crushed, "The last thing I remember is Klaus..." His eyes widened with shock, "Please tell me I was dreaming."
"Go ahead, Caroline." Rebekah smirked, "Don't be shy about it." She looked at the phone which showed there were only two minutes until the gym clock would sound, the blonde held it up to Klaus, his gaze had remained on Mia the entire time, only breaking for a split second to look at the screen.
"I'll be right back. Stay here." He spoke lowly, his shoulder brushed against Mia's as he walked out. She couldn't explain but she had a sinking feeling he was going to do something worse than what he'd already done. But another she felt was a slight regret for getting too personal with her insults.
"You okay, Em?" Tyler inquired but she didn't respond. Her thoughts were overshadowing anything they were saying. She knew she'd been too harsh, Klaus had done many unforgivable things but he wasn't born evil.
Caroline noticed her best friend's energy change, she let out a snort of amusement, "Please tell me you're not feeling guilty about that?" Once she made eye contact with the Petrova she could tell that she was. "Seriously, the guy's a jerk?"
"Didn't I tell you to keep your mouth shut!" Rebekah yelled, she glanced around for something else to throw but stopped when she'd seen the brunette's face. After all those years Mia was still the caring, affectionate, kind girl. It'd just been chipped away with all the tragedies she faced. "I know you hate him...but just know that Nik isn't all bad. He takes some time to understand, however when he loves someone he does so with his entire being."
Without saying a word Mia turned around and left the classroom, Rebekah watched her with a small smile. She despised her brother for the things he did, but in the end there was a bond that couldn't be broken, when you go through as many trials as they had it was impossible to truly split apart.
Mia found the hybrid by some lockers, his once closed eyes opened when he heard someone approach. "I thought I told you to wait there." He mumbled.
"You should know by now that I was never gonna listen." She leaned next to him, her apologising seemed strange but she didn't want to carry any regrets with her if she hadn't. It annoyed her how good-looking he was, especially in the grey Henley he was wearing, a sparkle caught her attention, a small jewel type at the bottom of one of his chains, "I like your necklace."
"Thank you." Klaus responded, almost inaudible. "It's black opal."
"It's very pretty." She reached out and held the stone, tracing her thumb over it. Klaus watched her in amusement, the smile returning to his lips. It reminded him of what used to happen when they'd argue in the past, it would become so heated one of them would leave, usually Mia. Then later on she'd go back to her sweet self and shower him with affection.
Klaus hooked a finger under her chin and tilted her head up, their eyes bore into each other but neither of them said anything. Just as Mia opened her mouth to talk the buzzer from the gym clock started blaring. The Petrova looked at Klaus in alarm and took off in a run, eager to help Elena.
As expected, he appeared in front of her, "I'm afraid, I can't let you intervene." He espied the old piping that was built on the outside of the walls and smirked when an idea flashed in his mind.
"He's gonna kill her, please. You have to call him off!" She dodged to the side to move past him but failed. "Let me through!" Mia began banging her fists against his chest but Klaus gripped both arms and backed her against a corner locker.
The brunette continued yelling until she felt a cold touch on her right wrist and heard a small click. Her jaw dropped slightly when she realised what he'd done and looked down to confirm it. Klaus had handcuffed her wrist to one of the pipes. What the actual fuck.
He couldn't help but chuckle at the situation, as she struggled against the restraints "Please tell me you have the key for this."
Klaus knew he didn't have it but played along to mock her, he patted his pockets then smiled sheepishly, "It appears I've left it in the classroom." He leaned in and pressed a quick kiss on her forehead but she jerked away. "Stay put, I'll come back for you." The hybrid walked away, his laugh sounding through the corridors.
"Klaus, unlock this!" Mia shrieked, she scolded herself for letting her guard down. Just when she thought of being genuinely nice to him he went and pulled a stunt like this. "Get back here, you son of a bitch!"
"What did you do?" Elena whispered in shock, Stefan fell back against the wall as he felt his humanity fade until it'd gone completely. He'd just been compelled to flip his switch.
"I fixed him." Klaus responded, all of a sudden something punctured through his skin and came out the other side, more specifically a metal pipe. He doubled over, an animalistic growl left his lips.
"Hi,Klausy. You sneaky piece of shit!" Mia stood over him with a bright smile, it didn't take her long to escape, vampire strength was very useful in scenarios like that. "Fucking prick!" She pulled the pipe back out and started beating him with it.
However Klaus was still an Original, older vampires had more power, he took hold of her weapon and snatched it. "Bloody hell, woman!" If she was anyone else there was no chance she would still be alive, not after this, actually Klaus usually killed people after their first collision with him.
Unexpectedly the Petrova's body dropped to the ground, landing next to Klaus. "That's enough of that, don't you think." Stefan quipped, it was his job to protect Klaus, that's what he'd been compelled to do, whilst the hybrid was busy being struck by the pipe, the Salvatore spotted a wooded stake, made from a table leg, that was tucked into the back of her shirt. The only solution he saw was to snap her neck.
Klaus got up from the floor, seething with the vampire for hurting her. However, he knew the girl would've continued with her assault if he hadn't done it. "I'll allow it, just this once." He felt as though his heart had been cut at the sight of her motionless body, it was easier to pretend she was sleeping.
"Now, I think a test is in order." He made his way to the Elena and brushed the hair away from her neck, "Ripper, perhaps you would like a drink...from the doppelganger's neck."
~~~~
"The world is being really homophobic, this is the second time one of my girlfriends are being compelled out of town." Mia was on the phone to Caroline had just compelled Dana and her sister, the Petrova had given them the keys to her old house in Georgia. It wasn't as though she'd be using the building anytime soon and it seemed wrong to leave it empty.
It was time for someone else to love it as much as she did, to create amazing memories there and she couldn't think of anyone else more deserving than Dana, especially after everything the girl had gone through. Mia's only issue was it would've been too hard for her to do it herself, it would bring up the bad kind of memories. of her doing the same to Relly. And she preferred to leave that in the past.
Actually, she'd been put off compelling completely and decided she would only ever use that ability when it was absolutely necessary.
"They're still packing but they should be done soon." Caroline told her as she watched the two sisters, running through the house all excited. They'd been made to believe that they won a competition and the prize was a free house, they'd always wanted to leave Mystic Falls since the death of their mother and this was the perfect opportunity. "Are you gonna be okay?"
"I'll be fine, Care." Mia reassured, she thought if she said it enough times it would come true. She rubbed her wrist that was still sore after she got the handcuff off. "I'm just waiting for Damon to bring Elena out." The older Salvatore had been missing the entire day, it turned out he was with Katherine on the hunt for the one person who knew how to kill Klaus.
Damon got into an altercation with Klaus in the parking lot but as soon as he mentioned the name of that individual the hybrid scarpered, Mia knew it was foolish to believe they'd never see him again. He always came back, it was only a matter of time.
"Call me if you need anything, I love you." Caroline said, she looked at her boyfriend who was mouthing something to her, "Tyler says he loves you too."
"I love you both, bye." Mia laughed, the Lockwood's transition to a hybrid had been completed, it was Elena's blood that was the key to turning hybrids. So Klaus, in his usual Mikaelson manner, drove the doppelganger to the hospital and had most of her blood drained, he then took off. They hadn't seen Stefan yet so they assumed he'd gone with him once again.
The brunette was strolling down the parking lot when she spotted Rebekah sitting on the hood of a van with her head hung low, she approached her hesitantly, "Are you okay."
"He left me." Rebekah murmured, fidgeting with her hands. "My brother actually left me, there I was telling you he was worthy of trust and he goes ahead and proves me wrong."
Mia debated walking away, the last thing she needed was another Mikaelson to worry about. However, her mind was swiftly changed when she heard a sniffle and saw Rebekah's eyes become clouded with tears.
I'm gonna regret this. "Hey, I know you don't know me that well...and all you've seen me do is hit your brother but..." She paused, contemplating if it was worth the scolding she was most likely get from Damon.
The brunette then thought back to her first night in town she had nowhere to stay and a beautiful stranger found her somewhere, that woman would want her to do the same, Mia decided to take Jenna's kindness and pay it forward. "Do you want to maybe...stay with me? I live with the Salvatores, it's a huge house so there's plenty of room."
A huge smile found its way to Rebekah's lips, the likelihood of getting her best friend back filled her with joy. It wouldn't be the same as it was but she didn't care. As long as she had Mia with her she knew she could be happy in Mystic Falls. "I would love to."
~~~~
"I'll check the coast is clear then you run upstairs." Mia whispered to the blonde as she poked her head through the gap in the doorway. The night had been chaotic enough and she wasn't in the mood to argue with Damon so Rebekah was going to sneak in and spend the night then they could deal with the tantrum the next day.
"This is going to be amazing, us living together." Rebekah squealed as she bounced happily.
"We're gonna have the best time." The Petrova smiled then looked into the house and saw that no one was in the living room, the two vampires tiptoed their way through the entrance until they heard Elena crying from the other room. Mia held a hand up as a sign to stop, "Let me distract them, go to my room, it's the one on the right."
With a blink of an eye Rebekah had disappeared so Mia walked into the second parlour where she found Damon comforting the Gilbert girl, for a moment it looked like they were about to kiss until they were interrupted by Stefan, he told them Klaus left him in town to protect Elena, gave a few witty remarks on the two flirting then left.
She wasn't surprised that no one had even taken notice of her presence so she simply stood there whilst they talked. If anything it was quite comical, invisibility wasn't an ability a vampire possessed but Mia could've sworn that whenever she was with Damon and Elena it became possible.
"We just have to figure out who Mikael is?" Damon noted, pouring some bourbon into a glass, "We find out who he is and why he hates Klaus so much, then all our problems are solved."
"Maybe he's an old enemy." Elena guessed, it definitely wasn't an old friend, that she was certain of. "The way Klaus chased Katherine for 500 years, maybe this Mikael guy has been chasing him."
Mikael...Oh fuck. Mia's eyes widened once she connected the dots, "Guys I think I know who he is." She spoke suddenly, causing Elena to become startled.
"Mia, you can't sneak up on us like that!" Elena exclaimed, holding a hand to her heart as she felt it race. "You almost scared me to death."
When the vampire tried to speak again Damon interrupted, "Pierce, please. We don't have time to sing karaoke with you, we're trying to deal with some serious shit here."
Fuck you both. Mia pursed her lips, pivoted on her heel and left without a word. If they couldn't have the decency to hear her out then she wasn't going to help them. She was walking up the stairs when a voice came from behind her.
"So what's your theory?" Stefan asked, tapping her shoulder. Mia turned to face him, her heart almost shattered when she'd seen the usual sparkle in his eyes had gone. She didn't even know if it felt right to call him Stefan anymore. "Who do you think Mikael is?"
"It's fine, I'm probably wrong anyways." Mia murmured as she continued going up the stairs. The Salvatore followed her then blocked the hallway so she couldn't pass.
"I don't like secrets, especially ones that would give me the upper hand."
"Fine." Mia sighed, she looked around to make sure Damon wasn't there then pulled Stefan into the nearest room. "When I went to Cordoba with Elijah, people were calling him Mr Mikaelson." Stefan's face remained unchanged, he was waiting for her to elaborate. "Are you really that dense, Mikael...son. Son of Mikael."
"Oh." Stefan deadpanned, "So the guy is chasing his own kids around the world, kinda weird."
"We can't really judge, Stef." She replied, running a hand through her hair as his eyes followed the movement. "Neither of us have great fathers."
"Point taken." He nodded, as she turned to leave he held her wrist, "So...where are we going tomorrow?"
"We?" Mia raised her brow, she didn't know much about rippers but was sure they didn't enjoy back-to-school shopping at the mall.
"Didn't you know?" Stefan chuckled, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. "As well as Elena, Klaus told me to watch out for you too."
Fuck my life
