"And welcome to the Grand Pangolin Arms." A short Pangolin states as she pushes the wooden door open, greeting both Judy and (Y/N) with a small, narrow room. Its walls were an old muted green, one you'd find in many old houses or homes.
A tiny desk stood all the way in the corner, while the bed laid opposite, its fitted sheets warm with the light casting from the rectangular window situated in the furthest wall of the room.
"Luxury apartments with charm." (Y/N) sniffs the air, and wrinkles her nose a little when she catches hints of strong lavender with incense all throughout. The pangolin continues to speak, a strict edge to her voice.
"Complimentary delousing once a month- don't loose your keys." She warns strictly, and places two separate but identical keys in both young women's paws. (Y/N) smiles. "Thank you." She says softly, and takes a small step inside to place her suitcase at the edge of the bed.
Judy watches her fondly, and perks up when she looks behind her and spots two Kudus walking past. "Oh hi! I'm Judy your new neighbor! And this is-"
"Yeah? Well we're loud."
"Don't expect us to apologize for it!"
With that, the two enter their room nextdoor and slam the door shut, not even bothering to hear what the small rabbit has to say. Judy enters her room and shuts the door, before looking up and making eye contact with a smiling fox.
She looks around. "Greasy walls.." (Y/N) joins in, her tail swishing behind her.
"Rickety bed." The fox mumbles.
The two jump as a loud yell sounds from next door, and the two random pictures hanging from the wall beside their bed shake with every word.
"You shut up!"
"You shut up!!"
"Will you shut up?!"
Judy stares, wide eyed. "Crazy neighbors.." she mumbles before turning and staring at her best friend, still seated on the bed. Slowly, a grin starts to spread across her face before she launches herself at (Y/N) knocking her backwards onto the mattress with a muffled giggle.
"I love it!" The bunny squeals, and laughs when her friend pinches her sides before gently rolling her off of her stomach. The two lay side by side, their shoulders pressed together and feet dangling just off the corners of the small bed.
(Y/N) smiles gently. "A new start, in an entirely new city...what could possibly go wrong?" She stares at the ceiling as she mumbles with a sigh, and turns her head slightly when Judy bumps their shoulders together.
"At least we have eachother, huh?" She says gently, and her friend hums in thought. "Hey." She starts again, and brings her arm up before extending her pointer finger into the air.
"(L/N) and Hopps?" Her question receives a soft gentle look from the fox beside her, and (Y/N) smiles before hooking their fingers together and pulling back with a snap.
"(L/N) and Hopps." She nods firmly, and the two remain there, comfortably enjoying each other's presence. Their eyes remain on the chipped and dusty ceiling, hundreds if not thousands of thoughts running through their heads all at the same time.
One thought however steadied the rest, that as long as they had eachother, and they stuck together, nothing and absolutely no one could stop them from achieving their dream.

The clock reads exactly five thirty, a time where most mammals would be sound asleep enjoying their days off, sleeping in till late, all the joys of being a working citizen.
Sadly, this was not the case for (Y/N).
The fox groans as she's woken by rustling and sounds of rushed footsteps all throughout her shared tiny room. Peeking an eye open, she finds the wide eyes of her best friend staring back at her.
Their two stare at eachother for a moment before (Y/N) huffs and turns over in the bed, and throws the blanket over her head. She listens carefully as the footsteps retreat, and smirks in victory before yelping as the covers are ripped right off of her.
"Rise and shine!" Judy's loud, cheerful voice rings out. "First day of duty officer (L/N)! Up you get!" Despite the many protests from the grey fox, Judy was able to get her friend to dress into her new uniform and make it out the door before six o clock, surprisingly.
(Y/N) yawns as she exits the apartment, and waits as she sees Judy pause. She raises a brow as her friend runs back into the room, and seems to grab something from the small cabinet resting just beside the opening of their apartment.
The fox hums in question, but chooses to ignore it as she sees the time and picks up speed, but not before catching the sight of something small and pink poking out from the side of her best friends holster.
____
The ZPD was a renowned department known for its incredible officers and efficient efforts in keeping its city clean of thieves and rid of no good low lives. All this was due to the fact that most of their officers were well trained, up to the task, and well, bigger and faster than most criminals.
(Y/N) stares, amazed as she takes in the many strict and stern faces of police officers moving about and conversing with one another. She catches the eye of a few wolves tucked into a corner by a water fountain, all raising their brows at the sight of a fox dressed in the same uniform as them.
Others paid them no mind, mostly due to the fact that they just about reached the height of most mammals kneecaps rather than head on.
Judy however, paid the stares and quick mumbles no mind, and grabbed her friend's paw to drag her to the front desk. A rather pudgy, round cheetah sits, happily munching on a bowl of cerise no doubt loaded with sugar while several other boxes of sweet goods surround his open desk.
"Excuse me?" Judy calls, and smiles when she sees the confused reaction of the cheetah as he looks around.
(Y/N) brings her arm up and waves. "Down here!" She calls, and offers her friendliest smile when she and the mammal lock eyes.
"O-M-Goodness!" The cheetah starts, wide eyed. "They really did hire a bunny! And a fox? What?!" He laughs, not condescending, just amazed. His tail wags behind him in curiosity as he leans against the front of his desk to get a better look at them.
"I gotta tell you, you two are even cuter than I thought you'd be!" Judy hisses at the compliment while (Y/N) chuckles, amused at the extroverted spotted feline.
The rabbit clears her throat. "Ohh, ah..you probably didn't know..but a bunny can call another bunny cute, but when other animals do it, it's a little.." she trails off hoping he understood what exactly she was trying to say.
The cheetah gasps dramatically, his paws flying to his mouth. "I am so sorry! Me..Benjamin Clawhouser, the guy everyone thinks is just a flabby donut loving cop, stereotyping you..oh!" (Y/N) tilts her head as she watches him, and smiles.
"Nah, to be honest I'd rather be a happy donut loving cop than a grumpy one munching on celery, but don't tell anyone I said that." She playfully whispers and covers the side of her mouth. In turn she receives a snort and a loud laugh from Clawhauser, who seems grateful for her sense of humor.
Judy smiles between them, and looks down before stopping. "Oh, you've actually got..there's a.." she tries to be polite as possible, and makes quick gestures to her neck as she stares at the cheetah.
Clawhauser raises his brow. "A what..?" He questions hesitantly, and begins to feel around his neck and shoulders before feeling something foreign, and quickly pulls out a small, somewhat squished donut that must have gotten trapped alongside the rest of his breakfast.
"Oh there you went, you little dickens!" He speaks happily, and tosses the donut into his mouth before munching happily.
(Y/N) laughs as Judy remains stone faced, a bit confused and mildly concerned. The fox shakes her head with a sigh and smiles before speaking up again. "We should probably get to roll call so which way do we..?"
"Oh! Bullpen's over there to the left." Clawhauser says quickly, and watches with a lazy smile as he watches the two bid him farewell and quickly begin walking in the direction he pointed to, recovering some odd stares along the way.
"Aw, those two are gonna get eaten alive."
_____
Pushing open the large door, (Y/N) allows Judy to head in first before quickly following. The room was big, and packed with mostly predators, all different species but much bigger and louder than the two newest members of their group.
The two quickly move past a table where a lion and a polar bear were having an arm wrestling competition, and they flinch back when the lions arm is sent straight into the table, rattling the metal and causing the two to walk faster towards their seats.
Quickly hoping up onto chair, Judy moves slightly to allow (Y/N) to take a seat beside her, literally. The chairs were too big for just one of them, and were able to fit them and maybe one more if given the option.
(Y/N) looks around, and her ear flickers in her friend's direction as she speaks. "Hey! Officer Hopps. Ready to make the world a better place?" Judy asks a rhino enthusiastically, and offers her hand up as a fist bump.
The rhino shares a glance with a tiger sitting beside him and rolls his eyes, before gently pressing his own fist into the rabbits and pushing the chair all the way to the edge of the shared table.
(Y/N) looks over her friend's ears and growls, annoyed at her new horned colleague. What she didn't expect, was the tiger sitting next to him to bare his fangs at her, large and pointy all on display.
This causes the fox to stare at him, bewildered. Never in her life has she ever seen a predator bare their fangs at her. This was partially due to her being grown and raised around rabbits all her life, but even her parents never did it.
But here? In zootopia? She's learning all sorts of new and interesting things about predators.
She becomes to lost in her thoughts that she doesn't seem to notice Judy gently laying a paw on her shoulder and offering her a reassuring smile. "Don't worry." The bunny offers. "The maamals here are just different to us, especially you." She tries to joke, and lets out a laugh.
"It's not like you'd ever do something like that."
The sentence makes the fox pause. Would she ever show her fangs to anyone? Why wouldn't she? Is it because she's been raised around prey most of her life that suddenly she's not a 'true predator'? Is that what her friend meant, that despite the claws, and fangs, and biology, she just doesn't truly belong anywhere?
Her thoughts are cut short when the door on the far right of the room opens, and a large water buffalo stomps in. The attention in the room immediately shifts, and the rest of the officers all stand to hoot and howl for their chief, who seems less than amused.
"All right, all right!" He yells over the noise. "Everybody sit." His command is followed without words, but (Y/N) and Judy quickly come to realize that they were able to see less than nothing sitting down, and resorted to standing on the chair instead.
"I've got three items on the docket, first, we need to acknowledge the elephant in the room." He pauses, his stern expression giving no indication of what he was actually feelings. He turns his attention to the far side of the room. "Francine.." he addresses, and pauses before shrugging his shoulders. "Happy birthday."
The tension quickly shifts to playful banter, and Francine is met with roars and cheers as her friends punch her on the arms in acknowledgment. "Oh yeah?!" She yells playfully before taking a tiger under her arm and smashing her leg into his head with a laugh.
The commotion causes Judy to quickly look on with concern, while (Y/N) can't help the grin that spreads and the way her tail moves quickly as she watches the rough housing.
"Number two!" The Chief addresses again. "There are some new recruit with us I should introduce...but I'm not going to because, I don't care." He says quickly and plainly, without room for discussion, and the proud smile that Judy sported is quickly wiped out as she tries to smirk and follow along with the snickers following after.
(Y/N) rolls her eyes and pats her friend's shoulder, before turning her attention back.
"Finally, we have fourteen missing mammal cases. All predators, from a giant polar bear, to a teensy little otter." The fox looks to the board displaying a map of zootopia, pinned and marked with red strings and pictures of the victims stapled all throughout. She frowns as she stares at the pictures.
All predators, like her. More than likely all of them had homes, families, people that are worried sick about them. The innocent and happy smiles on their faces makes her stomach twist even more, blissful smiles unaware of whatever fate has been brought down upon them.
"And city hall is right up my tail to find them!" The chief continues, his voice booming. "This is priority number one." He gets handed several red folders, and places them infront of him before placing small reading glasses atop the bridge of his nose.
"Assignments!" He clears his throat, and begins to list name after name, mammal after mammal. All receiving locations, information and clues as to where they were to be searching for any sign of these poor animals.
The call out goes on for a while, before finally there is one left, a small folder with only a handful of paper stacked between its covers.
"And finally, our first bunny..and fox." (Y/N) doesn't miss the hint of irritation lacing her new boss's voice as he spoke, almost like he was spitting out a bad taste in his mouth.
The two wait expectantly, their hearts beating and racing in their tiny chests as their paws pull into small balls at their side. Finally the chef speaks, his face bored and tone lame and lazy.
"Parking duty."
The fox and bunny pause, stunned and somewhat hurt before they quickly jump down from their shared chair and yell before the water buffalo walks out the door.
"Excuse me!" (Y/N) calls, "Chief Bogo?" The Chief removes his glasses and squints down at the two. "Sir, you said there were fourteen missing mammal cases." The fox continues, to which the Chief shrugs.
"So?"
"So we can handle one!" Judy springs up, her tony respectful and light. "You probably forgot but, we were top of our class at the academy!"
"Didn't forget, just don't care." He replies, bored and just about ready to leave. (Y/N) frowns up at him, and places a hand over her chest as her ear twitches.
"Sir we're not just some token mammals." She counters, and doesn't miss the hint of irritation that flashes in her boss's eyes as his gaze shifts between her and Judy.
"Well then writing one hundred tickets a day should be easy for you." He says sarcastically before reaching for the door and making a swift exit, leaving and agitated fox and determined bunny behind to scoff.
Judy taps her foot rapidly against the floor, while (Y/N) paces around the floor, her palms opening and closing.
"One hundred tickets, we're not gonna write one hundred tickets!" Just scoffs, and (Y/N) nods.
"That's right!"
"We're gonna right two hundred, before noon!" Judy exclaims, her face set in stone, determined as ever to prove not only herself but her friend to their stubborn and cold Chief.
(Y/N) pumps her fist into the air. "That's right-!" She pauses, and her ears droop all the way down as she processes what exactly her friend has declared. "Wait..what?"
