The Call

Genevieve Tyler, who preferred to be called Evie, was currently on an expedition with her close friend and mentor, River Song. Evie was studying archeology. Their expeditions weren't your typical ones, though—not that she would tell anyone about that... or that anyone would believe her about it.

Her phone rang and she checked the ID and saw her mum calling Evie knew it had to be important because her mum rarely called when she knew that Evie was on an expedition because the reception isn't always the best in the places they go. "Mum, what's going on?"

She heard the panicked and borderline hysterical voice of Jackie Tyler, her mother. "It's Rose she's missing... she just disappeared without a word, and she hasn't called in weeks. She could be dead in a ditch somewhere and we would never know it."

Evie sighed. "Okay, Mum, take a deep breath. It's going to be alright... Would you feel better if I came home?"

Jackie's voice held a hopeful tone as she said, "Oh, sweetheart, would you? Having at least one of my daughters home right now would make me feel much better."

"Of course, Mum, I'll be there as soon as possible." They talked for a few more minutes before saying goodbye and hanging up.

Evie walked into one of the main tents, and the woman in the tent looked at her and noticed the look on her face. "What happened, Eve?"

And so the red-haired girl explained the phone call she had just received from her mother.

River nodded; she knew what was coming for her friend and smiled at her. "Your time is coming, Eve... and it's going to be fantastic. You are finally going to learn everything that I couldn't tell you without messing up the timeline."

Evie never understood the pained looks she would sometimes catch in River's eye when she looked at her, but she figured they had something to do with the future, and she couldn't tell her about it.

Hearing that, it dawned on her what was going on. "She's with him, isn't she? My sister is with The Doctor?" River told her what she could about the Doctor and his Tardis and that one day, Evie's time to travel with him would come.

River nodded at her, confirming what Evie had said. "She is, and your time is coming... that's all I can say, spoilers and all. But go on, your mum needs you right now." Then she winked at Evie.

The redhead laughed and nodded back, "Thanks, River." the two said their goodbyes, and Evie packed up her stuff and headed back home to London to be with her mum.

A few minutes later, Evie had used the vortex manipulator that River had given her, and she set it to London outside the estate that her mum and sister lived on a few hours after she had spoken to her mum so as not to seem suspicious.

She walked up to her mum's flat and knocked on the door, and as soon as the door opened, Jackie pulled Evie into a hug. "Thank you for coming, sweetheart."

She hugged her mum back. "Of course, Mum, once I explained the situation, River understood that you needed me right now."

Jackie clung onto her eldest daughter, "Well, tell her the next time you talk to her that she needs to visit again."

Evie nodded, "Will do, mum." She then took her stuff and dropped it in her room while her mum made tea for them.

Evie sat with her mum, drinking tea, trying to reassure Jackie that Rose would be okay while trying not to seem like she knew what her sister was really doing.

Evie knew her sister would be home at some point, but she didn't know that it would be a whole year before that happened, and she met the Doctor for herself instead of just knowing him from River's stories.

:D It's a bit of a short chapter here, but it was just a little intro, and I can't wait to get into this story.
