xii. i knew it
Lorelei wish she knew how long it'd take for Allison, Scott, and Stiles to be in the tubs to search for the nemeton. She would've brought a book or anything that would've kept her entertained for the past 16 hours.
Luckily, Lorelei's boredom finally came to an end when the three teens shot out of their tubs, gasping for air.
Isaac, who had fallen asleep on Lorelei's shoulder, jumped awake at the sound of the gasps. Lorelei and Isaac pushed themself off of the desk they were sitting on and Lorelei rushed to grab them towels to warm up.
"I saw it. I know where it is." Scott said, out of breath as Lorelei came back into the room. She handed Isaac and Lydia a towel each so they could help Stiles and Scott warm
up while Lorelei made a beeline to Allison.
Stiles nodded in agreement with Scott's words as Lydia wrapped the towel around him. "We passed it. There's... There's a stump, this huge tree. Well, it's not huge anymore. It was cut down. But it's still big, though, very big." He said, his words stumbling over each other from the attempt to catch his breath and the shivering.
"It was the night we were looking for the body." Scott said and Stiles nodded in agreement. "Yeah, the same night you were bit by Peter."
"I was there too, in the car with my mother. We almost hit someone." Allison added and Scott's eyes widened, his head whipping to look at Allison. "It was me. You almost hit me!" He yelled and Stiles turned back to Lorelei, Isaac, Deaton, Conway, and Lydia in excitement for figuring it all out, but his smile fell when he saw the glum looks on all of their faces.
"What?" He asked and the five looked to each other, silently trying to decide who should break the news. Stiles watched as Lorelei chewed on her lips nervously and she cracked her knuckles.
"Lor?" He called out, making Lorelei whip her head to him. Now, Scott and Allison were watching her too. Lorelei sighed, licking her lips. "You guys were out a long time." She said and Stiles took a small step toward her.
"How long is a long time?" He asked and Lorelei looked up to her dad beside her before she sighed, turning back to Stiles, crossing her arms over her chest. "16 hours."
Lorelei thought Stiles would've collapsed when she heard him stumble toward her. Her head snapped back up to Stiles as he reached out to grab Lorelei's shoulders to catch himself.
He stared at her with wide eyes, leaning closer to her face which made Lorelei immediately lean back.
"We've been in the water for 16 hours?" Stiles asked and Conway grabbed Stiles's shoulder. It looked gentle to everyone else in the room, but Stiles had to hold back a wince at the mans grip.
Once Stiles was a couple steps away from his daughter, Conway let go of the boy and crossed his arms over his chest. "And the full moon rises in less than four." Conway added, eyeing the three teens who had just come out of the water.
Scott started to walk towards the exit of the clinic, shaking his head. "I need to find Deucalion." He said and Stiles quickly ran after Scott, grabbing onto his shoulder to stop him. "No, dude, you are not going back with them." Stiles said and Scott shrugged Stiles's hand off of his shoulder.
"I made a deal with Deucalion." Scott said and Stiles looked around the rest of the room in shock.
"Does anyone else think that sounds a lot like a deal with the devil?" He yelled and Lorelei rolled her eyes. Sure, she didn't like the idea of Scott working with Deucalion, but after what Jennifer did to her, Lorelei was willing to work with the literal devil if it meant that woman was out of her life.
"Stiles, we don't have the time to be dramatic. If Deucalion is our best bet at stopping Jennifer then–" The bell from above the front door of the clinic chimed throughout the building and everyone immediately freeze.
Lorelei's eyes widened as she clamped her mouth shut. Her eyes moved to Isaac and Scott, trying to read their expressions to know if they could recognize the scent of whoever walked in.
Deaton was the first one to start heading toward the lobby. He stopped just outside the doorway, raising his eyebrows at whoever just walked in. "May I help you?"
"I'm looking for Lorelei." The voice in the other room spoke.
Lorelei's eyes widened and her entire body perked up as she started walking towards the main room, recognizing the voice.
"Aiden?" Isaac mouthed just as she was about to pass him. Lorelei shook her head.
"Ethan." She mouthed back before she walked into the waiting room.
Her arms crossed when she saw Ethan standing alone. "What do you want?" She asked, her voice more confused then annoyed. She felt someone come to stand beside her, but she didn't turn her head to see who it was.
"I need your help." Ethan said and even though Lorelei didn't have an enhanced sense of smell like most of the pack, she could tell Ethan was nervous.
"With what?" The body next to her, Isaac, spoke.
Ethan didn't turn to him though, his eyes staying on Lorelei. He needed just her; no one else. "Stopping my brother and Kali from killing Derek."
...
Lorelei didn't waste a second to leave with Ethan. On their way to Derek's, Lorelei texted the man saying she was on the way with Ethan so he, Peter, or Cora wouldn't kill him when they saw him at their doorstep.
As soon as she and Ethan walked into the home, Lorelei felt a chill go down her spine. Her breath caught in her throat as she looked around the room. She could hear Ethan explaining to the three Hale's why the two of them were there, but Lorelei couldn't hear him over the sounds of Derek's screams getting louder and louder in her head.
It got to the point where all Lorelei could hear was ringing. While Ethan was talking, Lorelei winced, her hands shooting up to her ears in pain. The only person that noticed was Peter, who gave the girl a small look.
"We know about the lunar eclipse, so don't think Kali's gonna sit around waiting for it to level the playing field. She's coming, and my brother's coming with her." Ethan finished, making Peter look away from Lorelei. He crossed his arms over his chest and sighed as he turned to his nephew.
"Good enough for me. Derek?" Peter asked and Derek turned around to face Peter, raising his eyebrows. "You want me to run?" Derek asked and Peter only shrugged.
"No. I want you to stay and get slaughtered by an alpha with a psychotic foot fetish." He muttered sarcastically before shaking his head and walking up to Derek. "Of course I want you to run, sprint, gallop, leap your way the hell out of this town."
"If you want to fight and die for something, that's fine with me, but do it for something meaningful." Cora said from behind the two men.
Derek rolled his eyes at his sisters comment and turned around to glare at her. "How do you know I'm gonna lose?" He asked and instead of Cora answering, Peter did.
He took slow steps toward Lorelei. "We don't, but I'll bet she has an idea." He said, gesturing to the girl with his head. All eyes turned to her and they all picked up on Lorelei's heart rate speeding up.
"Don't you, Lorelei?" Peter asked, smirking to the girl and stopping his steps once he was right in front of the girl.
Lorelei gulped, her eyes nervously on Peter before they slowly moved to Derek. The man's eyes were wide as he stared back at her. "You saw something, didn't you?" He asked, his voice a little shaky. The last time Lorelei got a vision of someone's death, Boyd died not even hours later.
Lorelei's eyes flickered to Ethan for a barely a second and when she turned back to Derek, she nodded. "You should run."
...
Cora, Peter, and Derek left after that. Lorelei and Ethan decided to stay back at the loft and wait for Kali and Aiden to show up
It took about thirty minutes before anything happened. Kali had broken down Derek's front door, which wasn't necessary since Lorelei and Ethan had purposefully left it unlocked—but Lorelei digresses.
Kali and Aiden waltzed into the loft, Aiden's steps slowly when his eyes growing wide when he saw Lorelei standing in front of the large wall of windows. The moonlights reflected into the room and onto Lorelei, leaving a soft glow on her face that barely made her visible to Aiden.
He just stared at the girl, but Lorelei didn't look back at him, her eyes glued on the angry and impatient alpha wolf in front of him.
"Where is he?" Kali asked, her voice already starting to deepen as she started to wolf-out.
"I think he said he was heading out to do some shopping, run a few errands, the usual..." Lorelei's words caught in her throat when Kali's eyes flashed red, her fangs peaking out of the corners of her mouth.
Lorelei gulped, taking a small step back. "Werewolf afternoon." She finished her sentence, her words no longer as sarcastic as they once were.
Kali glared at her, taking a small step toward the blonde as she bared her teeth at her. "Who do you think you're talking to?" She growled and Lorelei gulped.
From behind Kali, Aiden took a small step forward, his eyes wide and glued on Lorelei incase Kali jumped at her. And from behind Lorelei, Ethan stood close behind her, ready to move her out of the way incase Kali pounced.
Lorelei nervously looked the woman up and down and she had to hold back visibly cringing seeing the woman was barefoot.
She looked back up to Kali's eyes and gave the woman a fake frown. "Someone who can apparently only wear flip flops." Lorelei spat before she looked back down to the woman's feet and her frown depended. "Which I really suggest she does..." Lorelei muttered, pushing Kali over the edge.
The woman growled, her claw pushing out and her eyes turning a bright red as she prepared to attack Lorelei. But as soon as she took a step toward Lorelei, an even louder growl murmured from behind her.
Kali froze and her eyebrows rose. Slowly, she turned around to face, Aiden. His fangs grew against his teeth and his eyes were a bright red. She chuckled, walking toward the boy. "Oh, really? Did someone take their little assignment too seriously?" Kali asked in a mocking tone.
Aidens growls only got louder and louder with every step Kali took toward him. "She is not the problem." He snarled and Kali's eyebrows shot up, shocked that the boy was going against her.
Her shocked expression quickly turned into an angry one as she tilted her head. "Maybe the problem is where your loyalties lie." She said slowly, her sentence getting muffled by her growing fangs.
From behind Kali, Lorelei took a small step back, stepping behind Ethan a bit as she watched the woman with big, nervous eyes. "Oh, god. Is this about to get really violent?" She asked under her breath even though there was a big chance Aiden and Kali could hear with with their enhance abilities.
Ethan couldn't look away from his twin and Kali, but stuck his hand out in front of Lorelei, gently pushing her back and behind him. "Probably." He whispered back to her.
Suddenly, Ethan, Aiden, and Kali all looked up at the ceiling and Lorelei gulped, not hearing or noticing whatever the three werewolves must've heard.
Slowly, Lorelei looked up at the ceiling with the three just as a low cracking started to echo from above her. She could see faint cracks grow on the glass ceiling, the lines getting more prominent and the noise getting louder with every second that past until a body fell through the ceiling.
Lorelei's heart sank when she watched Jennifer stealthily land on the ground, practically falling in a superhero pose before she started to stand up, brushing the dust and debris off her clothes. Her throat started to burn, the stitches from the woman slitting her throat suddenly burning as if her wound was reopened.
Lorelei tried to swallow, hoping it would relieve the pain growing up and down her neck and in her throat, but she couldn't seem to get anything down–as if she had dry mouth.
When Jennifer looked around the room, Lorelei could've sworn her heart stoppped–she would've thought it did if Aiden or Ethan had turned to her in worry, but neither boys looked away from the chuckling Jennifer.
The woman smiled to herself when she saw all of the people she's stabbed in the back surrounding her. She made sure to look every person in the eye at least once before she threw her arms out by her side and smirked.
"So who wants to go first?"
Kali let out a loud roar before she ran at the woman. Lorelei jumped at not only the volume of Kali's roar, but the fact that she jumped at jennifer claws and fangs first.
She instinctively stepped forward, hardly able to control herself as small little wisps of white energy danced from finger to finger in her hands.
Ethan noticed the girl moving beside him and when he turned his head to look at Lorelei, his eyes widened and he grabbed her arm, pulling her out of her thoughts and making the white in her hands vanish.
"Stay back." Ethan muttered through gritted fangs, pushing Lorelei behind him even more.
Lorelei's eyes could've popped out of her head as she snapped her head away from the women fighting to look up at Ethan, shaking her head frantically. "What? No, I can–" "If I let you fight, and something happened to you, Aiden would kill me. Stay back" Ethan interrupted, snapping at her in hopes it would make her listen.
And it did. Lorelei slowly crossed her arms and stepped back shakily as Ethan ran toward his brother to join into the fight. Lorelei's eyes widened watching the twins morph together. "Oh my God..." She muttered under her breath.
She was still definitely gonna have to get used to that.
Just as they were about to finish their transformation, Jennifer grabbed onto Kali's arm and flipped her. When the woman hit the ground, Jennifer looked around the loft, scowling when she saw the twins.
Her hands glowed a bright white as she reached for the twins head, grabbing either side of it before tearing the boys apart, stopping their morph.
Lorelei watched with shaky—practically buzzing hands as Kali forced herself up and attacked Jennfier. Lorelei wanted to jump in, to run over and help the twins up so they could get back to fighting, but she couldn't heal like them and neither Jennifer or Kali cared about her enough to keep her out of the aim of fire.
Kali cartwheeled away from Jennifer when the woman started to run toward her and Jennifers steps slowed over the fact that she was actually tiring Kali out.
When the alphas eyes scanned over Jennifer, her eyebrows furrowing a little bit, Jennifer smirked, her chin raising up higher as she let out a satisfied hum.
"Do you know what it takes to be able to look like this, to be able to look normal?" Jennifer asked and beneath their feet, the cracked glass ceiling let out a low groan—the sound vibrating through the air. Lorelei's heart slammed against her ribs, her entire body going rigid as the shards beneath them began to tremble.
"It takes power." Jennifer whispered
Lorelei's head snapped back up to the woman just in time to see the shattered glass slowly begin to rise. Every point angled toward Kali.
"Power like this." Jennifer breathed, an evil smile curling on her lips as she looked across the room at Kali.
Kali tried to move, tried to run away from the glass pointed at her that swarmed around Jennifer, but she was locked in place. The woman groaned as she tried to even just move her arms, but it was no use.
Jennifer chuckled watching the woman struggle and Kali's head jerked toward Jennifer, lips curled back in a snarl as she bared her fangs and shook in anger.
"I should've ripped your head off!" Kali roared and Jennifer blinked innocently, raising her eyebrows in mock offense.
Lorelei yelped, hiding her head in her hands just as the glass shards started to stab her.
Then the glass shards sliced through the air in a blur, and Lorelei screamed, dropping to her knees and throwing her hands over her head. The sound of glass tearing through flesh echoed through the room with Kali's final breaths.
Lorelei couldn't move. She couldn't breathe. She stayed frozen, her hands clenched tight over her head, every inch of her body shaking and screaming to run, but she felt paralyzed.
Slowly, Lorelei raised her head just as Kali's body hit the floor with a sickening thud. Blood pooling out beneath her.
Lorelei couldn't look away. She felt bile rise up her throat with her fast beating heart, but she couldn't pull her eyes away from the dead woman in front of her.
She only finally looked away when she saw Jennifer take a step toward her out of the corner of her eyes.
Lorelei scrambled to stand up, her legs feeling weak holding her own weight as she stepped back. When the back of her thighs hit the edge of the table, Lorelei gasped, her whole body reacting.
Jennifer tilted her head, watching her like a predator sizing up its next prey.
"Get away from me." Lorelei whispered, her voice shaking, but she pushed herself to sound strong. She couldn't let Jennifer know she was this terrified of her, but could you blame her really?
Lorelei's vision began to blur again, the edges going soft when Jennifer took another step toward her. Lorelei was close to hyperventilating, her breaths coming in short bursts as just stared at the woman.
"I'm not gonna hurt you, Lorelei..." Jennifer cooed as Lorelei gripped the edge of the table behind her so tight, her knuckles were turning white. She didn't blink, didn't move—her whole body froze.
Then, from just behind Kali's body, Lorelei saw something move out of the corner of her eyes. Ethan and Aiden. They were alive. Slowly and shakily, they began to sit up. She tried her hardest to hide the shock and relief on her face and kept her attention on Jennifer.
Aiden's jaw clenched tight as he watched Jennifer close in on Lorelei. He looked just about ready to pounce and fight Jennifer all on his own, but Ethan grabbed his shoulders, stopping him.
As the twins started to morph, Lorelei felt the palms of her hands vibrate and she realized the blurred corners of her vision was turning white.
Lorelei straightened her shoulders, pushing herself to stand taller against Jennifer. "Stay back." She warned and Jennifer stopped—but only to laugh.
"Lorelei..." Jennifer hummed softly, , shaking her head with a condescending smile, clucking her tongue. She stepped closer again.
Lorelei's hands were vibrating so hard, her powers had broken through the table, letting a large crackling sound echo through the loft. Her eyes turned completely white, flashing back at Jennifer so bright, it made the woman freeze.
"I said stay back!" Lorelei screamed, her hands shooting out from behind her back and pushing the woman away from her.
Lorelei's screams were ear piercing and a blast of white exploded from her fingertips. Jennifer was flung backward, slamming into the chest of Ethan and Aiden's combined alpha from the sheer power of it.
The alpha roared, claws digging into Jennifer's shoulders as they pinned her in place.
But Jennifer only smiled.
She didn't even flinch.
She twisted in their arms until her back was pressed against the alpha's broad chest. Then, she reached up—arms snaking behind her head—and latched onto the sides of the alpha's skull.
Lorelei could've bet her heart stopped beating completely. It was eerily silent—as if everything had gone in slo-mo as a smirk grew on Jennifer's face.
"What's the line coach likes to say? The bigger they are..." She teased and with one twist of her wrists, the alphas neck snapped.
"No!" Lorelei screamed, her voice raw as the alpha's body grew limp in the woman's arms and collapsed to the floor.
She ran as fast as she could toward the body, not even caring that Jennifer was right beside it. The world blurred and her powers buzzing through her fingertips and head as she dropped to her knees beside the crumpled body.
Jennifer side stepped away from Lorelei and the body, chuckling as Lorelei reached for their shoulder, gently shaking the alpha.
"Aiden? Ethan?" Her voice came out in a small and broken whisper.
But nothing.
No movement. No breath.
Lorelei didn't realize she was crying until the tears hit her lips. Her chest heaved and her bottom lip trembled as she looked into their lifeless, glassy eyes staring right back at her.
She let out a sob that racked through her entire body and gently lifted the alpha's head onto her lap, her fingers brushing back its hair.
"Lorelei!" A voice yelled as two people ran into the loft.
Lorelei barely lifted her head to see Derek and Cora running toward her. She looked back down at the combined twin as Cora skidded on her knees to get to her faster. "Are you okay?" Cora whispered, her eyes jumping back and forth between the limp body on the floor and Lorelei, who was moving the twins head onto her lap.
"Yeah... Yeah." Lorelei whispered and once Cora was sure Lorelei's heart was only beating at such a fast pace because anxiety and not because she was lying, Cora relaxed and turned to look up at her brother.
She and Lorelei watched as Derek took a slow step toward Jennifer, shaking his head as he looked at his mess of a loft and the bodies surrounding it. "What did you do?" He whispered, his eyes barely passing over Lorelei before they landed back on Jennifer.
His eyebrows furrowed as Jennifer smiled up at him. "I did this for us. For anyone who's ever been their victim." She explained, going to take a step toward Derek, but he immediately took a step back.
"Stop talking to me like a politician!" Derek snapped, making Jennifer freeze. "Stop trying to convince me of your cause!" He yelled.
"Fine, I'll convince you of someone else's." Jennifer said. Derek's eyebrows furrowed, watching the woman closely as she raised her eyebrows, as if what she was about to say next was obvious. "Scott. You can save his mother and Stiles's father." She explained, making Lorelei on the floor straighten up.
"How?" She asked, her voice croaking from her previous screams.
Derek and Jennifer both turned to the girl and as soon as Derek realized Jennifer's eyes were on Lorelei, he put his attention back on Jennifer, making sure she didn't try to hurt Lorelei again.
Luckily, Jennifer didn't attack Lorelei. She hardly even looked at the teen girl before she turned back to Derek, answering the question to him instead of Lorelei. "I need a guardian, and that's a role that can either be filled by the three parents I was forced to take or by you."
Derek shook his head, his arms crossing over his chest. "I can't help you. I'm not even an alpha anymore." He said, his eyebrows raising as he shrugged his shoulders.
Jennifer shook her head, taking a step toward Derek again and this time, Derek let her. "All I need is for you to help me get Deucalion in the right place at the right time." She explained, making the man scoff.
"You just killed three of them on your own. What do you need me for?" He snapped, throwing his hand out to point at the three dead alpha wolves Lorelei and Cora kneeled by.
Jennifer barely looked over her shoulder to look at the dead bodies and the grieving Lorelei. She shook her head as she looked up at Derek, taking a slow, seductive step toward him. "You haven't seen him at his strongest. I have. If he's got Scott with him, I don't stand a chance unless I have you." She whispered, her fingertips tracing Derek's chest before she planted her hand down.
"Derek, don't trust her." Lorelei warned, pushing her voice to be louder despite how much it hurt her throat. And Derek's eyes refused to leave Jennifers, almost as if he were in a spell.
"I have the eclipse in my favor, But the moon's only gonna be in the earth's shadow for 15 minutes. That's the extent of my window. There's no decision to struggle with. Help me kill him, and the others live. Just help me." Jennifer begged.
Cora and Lorelei watched Derek closely, waiting for his answer.
"Fine." He grumbled and Lorelei's eyes could've popped out of her head. Why would he go with her? After everything she's done!
"Derek, are you kiddi–" Lorelei started to sit up, but when Derek's head whipped into her, she froze, her movements faltering at the desperate glare on his face.
"I have to, Lorelei!" He screamed, making the girl quiet down. Lorelei slumped, her shoulders collapsing and her head dropping to look back down at the head lying in her lap. Her chest burned at the sight of the twins lifeless eyes staring back up at her and it took everything in her not to let the tears in her eyes win and start to build up.
"Derek!" Cora yelled out to her brother as he started to walk out of the loft with Jennifer. She would've ran after him, but she didn't want to leave Lorelei alone like this and with the twins dead body. When Derek didn't come back after her call, Cora sighed and turned back to Lorelei.
"Lorelei, we can get help." She whispered, rubbing the blondes back reassuringly, but Lorelei didn't budge Cora's words. She just stared down at the body laying in her lap, sniffling as she ran a hand through alphas hair.
Cora frowned at Lorelei's silence. Still rubbing her back, Cora's eyes widened when an idea popped into her head while she watched the body resting on the blonde.
"What about that vet?" She asked abruptly, turning her head to look at Lorelei with slightly raised eyebrows.
When Cora heard the way Lorelei's breath hitched just before they locked eyes, Cora knew her idea was a good one.
A soft cracking made Lorelei and Cora look away from each other and back down to the body.
"Oh my God!" Lorelei shrieked, jumping back and scooting away from the body that was once resting in her lap when she saw that the twins had separated, Aiden's head once resting in Lorelei's lap while Ethan laid inches away from him.
Lorelei was breathing so fast, her chest visibly moved up and down at a startling pace. Cora was shocked the girl hadn't passed out yet.
Cora stared down at the now separated twins with wide eyes, her lips fallen into an "o" shape out of pure shock. But what shocked her more was the faintest sounds of their heartbeats coming from their pale bodies.
"They're alive." She whispered, slowly crawling toward the two boys. She leaned closer to Aiden, making sure she wasn't hearing things and once she heard his heartbeat again, her back straightened and she snapped her head to Lorelei.
Lorelei stared back at Cora with wide eyes, her eyes snapping back and forth between Cora and the two unconscious boys on the ground.
Without a second thought, Cora grabbed onto Ethan's arm and flung it over her shoulder, lifting the boy up with ease. "Let's get them up." She quickly instructed.
While Cora got Ethan standing, Lorelei was frozen for a moment before it all finally processed. The twins were alive and she needed to get them to Deaton. Lorelei practically sprang off the ground and grabbed Aiden's arm to help him up, stumbling and following Cora out of the loft pathetically.
God, she hated having normal people strength.
...
Lorelei called Deaton on the way to the clinic and warned him about the twins state so by the time she and Cora got there, Deaton had already prepped the back room and was ready for them.
When Deaton saw Cora pull into the parking lot, he ran toward the passenger side to help Lorelei with one twin since Cora would be able to carry the other all in her own with her enhanced strength.
As soon as Lorelei saw Deaton come up to her, her chest tightened and she watched the man with big, tear-filled eyes. "Can you save them?" She asked, barely registering the way her voice wavered as she spoke.
"Only if they start healing on their own." Deaton responded softly as he wrapped Aiden's arm around his shoulder, helping him out of the car and once Lorelei was out after him, she did the same with Aidens other arm, the two of them dragging the boy into the clinic.
He quickly led the girls into the back room of the clinic and they placed both boys on their own tables to be operated on. Deaton looked up from Aiden and to Lorelei standing across from him.
"They're gonna need your help."
Lorelei lifted her head to look at Deaton as er hands shook by her sides in fear. Deaton ignored the girls nervousness, knowing that she would push it all down to helo the boys and instead, turned to look at Cora, who was standing in front of Ethan. "Both of you." He clarified.
Lorelei looked down at Aiden and it was as if he was a magnet drawing her in. In seconds, her hands grabbed both of Aiden's and her eyes slowly started to glow white as she tried to heal him.
She felt herself getting weaker the longer she tried to heal him. Her legs shook underneath her and she was starting to get lightheaded, but she kept pushing. She shut her eyes tight and her face scrunched to try and push harder.
When Lorelei felt a trickle of blood run down her upper lip, she looked down at Aiden and really looked at him.
His face was pale and his eyes were closed. He looked so still. She fought back the ache rising in her chest, but it pressed against her throat. "Aiden, come on... please." She swallowed hard, her voice shaky. "You have to heal! Come on!" Lorelei whispered desperately.
When she was met with complete silence, Lorelei's heart sank. Her jaw clenched and her hands around Aiden's tightened. "You've gotta heal, Aiden. Please." Lorelei whispered, her words becoming more urgent as she pushed herself further to heal the boy.
Her shoulders slumped, and a tear slipped down her cheek. She didn't know if it was from her body getting weaker and the pain starting to take over from how much power she was trying to force out or the idea that Aiden might be gone, but she let the tear fall.
She let go with one hand, keeping the other holding his hands tight. Her thumb brushed along his cheekbone. Then, she felt the faintest flutter underneath her fingertips.
Lorelei's breath hitched, catching Deaton and Cora's attention. Her hand stayed close to Aiden's face even though her entire hand felt like it was on fire. She was completely froze staring down at the boy as his eyes slowly blinked open.
Aiden's eyes found hers and a small smile grew on his lips. "I knew it." He whispered, his voice soft yet teasing.
Lorelei's brows furrowed, her hand finally resting and landing carefully on his cheek. "What?" She muttered, her thumb unknowingly tracing a gentle line on his cheek.
His smile grew and he leaned into her touch. "I knew you liked me." He whispered, his voice just a murmur as he stared up at Lorelei. Aiden's eyes were practically sparkling when a laugh left Lorelei's lips.
She rolled her eyes, but her hand moved to rest at the nape of his neck, fingers threading through his hair. "Shut up." She muttered, pulling him closer until their lips met.
Aiden's eyebrows shot up and his eyes closed. His hand moved up to Lorelei's cheek as the kiss deepened.
When they finally broke apart, they stayed close, their foreheads resting together and Lorelei's heart racing as she smiled. "Don't ever do that again." She breathed out, making Aiden chuckle. His eyes glanced down to Lorelei's lips before he looked back up to her eyes, a small smirk taking over his smile. "If it means you get to kiss me again, I might just have to keep doing it."
