13: i like you

"Huh?" Seoyun said dumbfounded.

"Well you asked me if I had any questions so I asked you a question," he said nonchalantly with a smirk.

"I was asking if you had questions about the lesson," she said, wildly blushing.

"You should've specified what kind of questions you wanted. All I heard was if I had any questions so I asked the first question that popped into my head," he reasoned with an innocent smile.

Seoyun scoffed then stood up, "I'm going to go get some food, Jisung come with me," she stated and grabbed Jisung then rushing out of the classroom. Hyunjin shook his head as he laughed at her, he didn't take her walking out of class as a rejection, the blush on her cheeks and the slight smile on her face made him way too happy.

"What's wrong?" Jisung asked as he was wrongfully pulled out of the classroom.

"I think Hyunjin just asked me out," Seoyun said confused.

"Isn't that a good thing?" Jisung asked with a wide grin. He watched her reaction carefully, she seemed to be thinking carefully, like a mix of confusion and confusion, but her eyes said the exact opposite, it was full of joy and happiness. "Don't you like him too?"

"I think? I think I do. I think I like Hyunjin too, " she said, a smile slowly forming on her face.

"So what did you tell him when he asked you?" Jisung asked.

"I didn't answer him and then I left with you," she answered.

"Well go in there and tell him how you feel!" He grabbed onto her arm and pulled her into the classroom. Hyunjin was busy preparing his things for their next class when Jisung set her down on her seat. Jisung constantly silently urged her to say something to him, but Seoyun stayed silent as she prepared her things as well.

"Where's your snacks?" Hyunjin asked with a smirk.

"Oh, um, I decided I wasn't hungry," she answered. Hyunjin turned to her and rested his arm on the back of her chair.

"Well since you were deciding things already, have you decided to answer my questions?" Hyunjin asked. Seoyun turned to him with the opposite expression he was expecting, and this saddened him.

"Is this one of those times when we pretend we ask each other out as a joke? You have to tell me now, Hyunjin. Tell me if you're joking or not," she said with a serious expression.

Hyunjin's eyes softened, for a second he thought she was rejecting him. "No," he answered, Seoyun looked at him in shock. "No, I'm not joking this time."

"Then can I have some time to think about it?" She asked softly, her eyes pleading for more time.

Hyunjin was disappointed, to say the least. It wasn't the answer he was looking for, neither was it the answer he dreaded. The worst he expected was her straight up rejecting him. No, that wasn't it, the worst was losing their friendship, that was the worst thing that could happen to him.

"I'm sorry, I guess it was too sudden," he apologized. He stared at her for a while then looked at the notebooks on his desk. There was an awkward silence between them, neither knew what to say or do. It was devastating.

"Hyunjin," she said quietly as she pulled on the end of his shirt. "I like you, so it's not what you think."

She let go of his shirt slowly then went back to do her work. They repeatedly stole glances of each other as their school day went on, the sensation of uneasiness between the two caused them to be unable to talk to each other, it killed them. The only thing that made Hyunjin better was the three words she told him to reassure him, but it was the same three words that might've just pushed him on edge. If she liked him why didn't she just say yes? Was it because of her ex, the guy she talked about that one time he overheard her conversation with Felix, the one her family hates, the one that makes Felix's gentle heart boil enough for him to curse when they mention him? The one he hates but has never met. Was it that guy?

There was a short break before their next class, Hyunjin wanted to take this as an opportunity to talk to her, to comfort her, but she left as soon as the bell rang, and he couldn't even say a word.

"Something doesn't feel right. Is everything okay?" Jisung moved from his chair to her empty one to talk to his best friend.

"I thought everything was okay, but I think I may have just screwed everything up," Hyunjin admitted with a lowered head.

"I have time to listen, do you mind talking?" Jisung said as he rested his hand on Hyunjin's back comfortingly.

"She said she needed a little bit of time to think about it but she did say she liked me back," Hyunjin said. "And I think I know what's bothering her."

"What do you think it is?"

"Well, a few weeks back I overheard her talking to Felix about a guy she used to go out with. Felix sounded angry and she was definitely hurt. I didn't hear much but after she mentioned him she just looked so sad, there was so much pain in her eyes at that moment," he said. Jisung knew who he was talking about, it was a conversation topic he once had with Seoyun during one of her sleepless nights.

"Since she asked for time, why don't you just give her some," Jisung pet his back softly.

"I will. I am. Anything for her, I can wait," Hyunjin said quietly.

"Thank you, for letting me take my time," she spoke up. From the sound of her voice, their heads perked to the direction of her sound.

"I should leave you two to talk," Jisung stood up from her seat. "He deserves an explanation, Seoyun," he whispered to her ear before leaving.

"Are you okay?" He asked with so much concern that she couldn't help but smile at him.

"Yes I'm okay, thank you for asking," she sat back on her seat. "How about you?"

"I'm okay as long as you are," he smiled. "I hope I didn't make it weird between us, so can we just pretend that it didn't happen. The last thing I want is for it to affect our friendship."

"But it did happen. It did affect our friendship. And it's not necessarily a bad thing that it happened," she said. He stared at her, waiting for an explanation for her vague answer. "My last relationship hurt me bad, and then I started thinking about what a relationship with you would be like."

"How did it look?" He asked.

"Horrible. But only because I was still thinking about how much it could hurt," she explained.

"You're scared that I would hurt you?" Hyunjin asked worriedly.

"No! It never even crossed my once," she reassured him. "How much I could hurt you. How I would be too scared to move our relationship forward, how I would be too scared to fall for you, how I wouldn't be able to make you happy."

"Seoyun..." he said softly, a hand tempted to reach for her.

"So I'm sorry for asking you to wait, you don't deserve that," she said followed by a heavy sigh.

"And who are you to say what I deserve and don't?" He joked as he leaned his face down to meet her lowered eyes. She smiled the moment her eyes saw his shining ones.

"I'm just saying that you deserve better, someone with less baggage," she admitted.

"And you're not better?" Hyunjin asked. She looked up to him with a sad smile.

"Not right now, no. But I know I'll get better, for you," she told him.

"Well, then can I help you get better? There's no rule saying that you can't ask for help," he said then held her hand.

"All I need you to do is just be there, like you always have," she said sweetly as she squeezed his hand tightly.

"You should save words like that when we actually start dating," he playfully let go of her hands.

"Who said I was going to date you?" She asked.

"Well you did tell me you liked me," he smirked.

"That's true," she scratched her cheek lightly.

"Good thing I like you."
