AMBER WALKED through the busy airport, her fingers wrapped tightly around the straps of her backpack. Her heart was racing and her palms began to sweat.
She was home.
Amber knew she shouldn't have come back, it would just resurface all the memories she'd been suppressing for too long, along with haunting image of her being caught.
She shivered at the thought of the cold, damp and dark cell, she'd escaped from. Amber shook her head trying to rid the chilling thoughts.
She loosened up a little as she noticed a few people glancing at her, giving Amber worried or strange looks.
Amber stepped out of the warm crowded airport and a light breeze swept past her, causing her hair to fan out to the side.
Amber walked to the edge of the busy sidewalk and knocked on the window of a vacant yellow taxi.
"Hello?" Amber asked, tucking a piece of hair behind her ear. She heard a small click and she pulled open the car door. Amber slid into the backseat, and shrugged off her backpack.
"Where to?" The cab driver questioned, pulling out of his parking space.
Amber took a breath in, "The Avengers facility, upstate" she told the man, hoping he wouldn't question it.
She fixed her cap lower on her head and her sunglasses were covering her terrified and wide eyes. Amber felt paranoid at every glance the man sent her way as he drove. She relaxed in her seat as time passed, Amber kept her eyes focused ahead of her.
It felt like years before the large metallic Avengers facility came into view. Amber took a shallow breath in.
"You can pull over here" She told the driver, as he pulled into the side of the road, she threw him a fifty dollar bill.
"Thank you" she told him flatly as she got out, and as soon as she closed the door the driver zoomed far off into the distance.
Sometimes Amber wished her powers would be miraculously restored. Not only did she feel incapable because of her age but she felt like the most useless and helpless of the Avengers, or well... what was left of them.
Amber took a sharp breath in as she walked down the sidewalk leading to a 'top secret' back entrance to the facility. She knew it led right into Tony's lab, where hopefully he would be.
Amber fixed her cap self consciously and out of habit, making sure it blocked her brown locks. She had put in fake contacts as another way of making sure she wasn't caught, and for extant security she had a pair of black raybans concealing her eyes even further.
The key to not being caught is to act natural, don't look paranoid or anxious, that would be a dead giveaway. So although Amber was shaking on the inside, her anxiety glaring to its upmost worse, on the outside, she looked calm and collected.
The trainings grounds were empty, which was odd but security cameras were watching the fields like a hawk.
Amber got as close to the wall as possible and out of sight from the cameras, she sidestepped along the rough outside until she reached a metallic door.
There was a pin that locked it but Amber knew what the pin was, it was the exact same as every other pin code in the facility. Her hand wavered over the touchpad before pressing, 78275.
(Now Thats a puzzle for ya, figure out what that code means ;) let the games begin)
There was a quiet beep and the metal door clicked open. Amber mentally thanked the lord above that she hadn't gotten it wrong. She shuddered at the thought of all the alarms blaring and each and every single inhabitant in the building would be notified and on the scene within seconds.
Amber pulled open the door, as slowly as possible to avoid creaks and any unwanted attention. Now her only problem was Friday. Would the AI call the special forces or would it just let her talk to an old father figure?
That was a big risk Amber was going to have to take.
She entered the immaculately clean laboratory where Tony and Bruce spent most of their time. Amber spun in a circle, just taking in her surroundings. She instantly stopped upon a robotic voice spoke softly.
"Ms. Maximoff?" The voice said, causing Amber to freeze in her tracks. She knew who it was almost immediately.
"Hey Vision...." Amber replied hesitantly, turning around to the red and green man.
Vision stood at the end of the staircase, his arms folded and a stern look plastered across his face.
"You know you shouldn't be here" He said curtly, Amber looked down almost ashamed.
"I know... but I had to see someone... I had to talk to someone" Amber told him, tears pricking in her eyes.
Vision sighed and looked around, "Be glad I disabled the cameras and security system upon alerting me you were on the facility grounds" he whispered.
Amber sighed in relief, at least one worry was out of the way. "Where's Tony?" She asked her voice shaky and vulnerable.
"Where's Wanda?" Vision responded, a hint of urge leaving his tone.
"Even if I knew, which I don't... you know I could never tell you.... she may not love me... not after Sokovia...but she's my sister and I'm no traitor" Amber replied her tone harsh and angry.
Vision went silent. Amber looked down,
"Maybe I shouldn't have come" Amber murmured, Vision looked down at her.
"Mr. Starks upstairs, but he has company. I'll bring them down here to you. Don't leave this lab, please. It's safer down here" Vision said turning around to leave.
Ambers mouth turned up and a small smile graced her face. "Thank you" She whispered to the robotic man.
"And for the record, She never stopped Amber, not once" Vision informed her, before phasing through the ceiling, leaving the girl alone with her thoughts.
