CHAPTER THIRTY-ONE- He didn't choose me and it hurts.
A/N- This is an unedited chapter.
As we all piled into Jason's limousine, with Daphne and Jason by my side, Sara in between Dave and Jake, and Sheila and Lydia sitting together. Although that sneaky Jason wanted to pull me on his laps I gave him the stink eye that said 'oh boy no you don't get to do that' and luckily he understood. I'm not really big on the PDA thing and luckily Jason understood.
"So Dave how is Melissa doing?" Sarah asked
"Oh... She's good. She even convinced me to come on this vacation so according to her 'You'll stop bothering me and treating me like a porcelain doll! For goodness sake, I'm just five months pregnant and not about to die!" Dave tried mimicking a female voice but obviously failing as he sounded shrill.
"You're married?" I asked him.
"Yeah... Don't tell me you secretly love me and want to dump Jason's sorry ass. You know I can always make a place for you." He joked as he wriggled his brows suggestively.
"I can't dump Jason for you even in the next ten lives. How can I drop a diamond and pick a brass?"
"Oh my gosh! She totally roasted him. I knew I liked her for a reason," Sara said as she held her hand up for a high five, and considering we were sitting opposite each other. Our high-five was like the spectacle in the limo.
"You wanna cry pretty boy?... Close your mouth lest flies pop in." She grinned wickedly.
"That was mean Mia... I thought we are friends. How can you call me brass and call Jason diamond? I mean that is just plain mean. The difference is so glaring." Dave pouted.
"Ain't that telling you something?" I said dryly.
"You're so mean." Dave playfully glared at me.
"So Jake are you also married like your brother or you're afraid of commitment? There is always that brother that is afraid of commitment. Hope that isn't you?" I playfully asked.
"No, I'm not," He said while wiggling his eyebrows at me.
"The right person just hasn't said yes." He continued.
I detected a bit of sadness in his voice as he gazed fleetingly at Sara while she just squirmed uncomfortably. I'll probably ask her when we get to know each other well.
"So Mia you still won't even consider me over Jason for anything?" Dave asked, probably still hurt that I called him brass and Jason diamond.
"I already told you no. It can only happen if pigs fly, if ten seas part on their own with no human effort and also if you find a way to look and act exactly like Jason. That ain't anytime soon so back away boy." I did the shooting thing with my hand.
Then Sara made her phone do this thing where someone will say 'and she has it.' Then an imaginary crowd will clap. I swear Sara reminds me so much of Ash.
"Mia- 2 Dave- 0. Got anything to say, Davey?" She asked acting like she was a reporter.
"I feel like you know me before, 'cause these insults always come from a hurt fan. Did you ever request for autograph and I didn't give you?" Dave placed his finger on his chin like he was really thinking.
"I think no one has ever told you before that you ain't important. Since no one has told you I'll do you the favor. You are not that important Dave."
"Word!... And Mia has it!" Sara said, playing the silly soundtrack again.
"What's happening?" Jason asked, rubbing his eyes. Obviously waking up from sleep. The funny thing was that no one realized he slept off.
Everyone, well apart from Sheila burst into laughter. I can already tell you this vacation is going to be so much fun.

Since we came to the Island five days ago we have had so fun that I almost feel like not going back. Well apart from Sheila who insists on just tanning and claiming other activities will ruin her glow.
For the first time, Lydia doesn't mind Sheila and joins us in scuba diving. Dave who was claiming to be a macho guy, I found out that his weakness is water. We had to convince him twenty times that there was no jellyfish in the water before he got in.
We decided to play beach volleyball in teams. I teamed up with Jake, Sara, and Daphne. Everyone looked at Jason and I like we suddenly became aliens.
"What?... We aren't one of those sappy couples." Jason said.
What he didn't say is that we have more fun competing with each other rather than playing together.
So my team won! Yay for me, but too bad we had a bet that the losing team had to cook a steak. So Jason volunteered to cook the steak since he was the one with better culinary skills. Me the good girlfriend I am decided to help him.
"Please, can you get the barbecue sauce in the fridge?" Jason asked when he realized he forgot to bring it when he got other stuff.
"Sure chef." I stood up from the chair I was sitting on, as I advanced towards the house I felt Jason slap my ass.
"Perv." I laughed as I continued walking.
"What? My girlfriend is hot so... I got to appreciate her assets. If I don't, who will?" He said it like it was the most obvious thing in the world.
"You're always looking for an excuse to perv." I laughed as I finally entered the house not hearing his reply.
Nothing prepared me for what I saw in the Kitchen. Jake and Sara were having a really heated argument.
"I've waited for your answer for five years. I've told you that I love you and I'm not going to give you up." Jake said, gesturing widely.
"I told you to move on for goodness sake! I may love you but it isn't enough okay." Sara yelled back.
"It isn't? After all, we have been through you still doubt if love is enough? Have you ever stopped to think that I feel like a fool waiting for you all these years? You know what?... I'm tired of chasing shadows so if you know you want to be with me, you know where to find me. In the next six hours if you don't come, then I'll know you have made your choice. Then I'll finally move as you wanted all along, no matter how much it hurts."
He stalked out angrily not even noticing me huddled in the corner of the kitchen.
Immediately he left, Sara fell on the floor and started crying. I hurried to her without a second thought.
"I'm so sorry." I rubbed her shoulders.
"You saw?" She raised her teary eyes to look at me.
I nodded my head slowly. "I'm so sorry I intruded in a personal moment. It's like when I saw you both arguing my feet refused to obey my brain."
"It's okay, I'm happy it was you and not someone else." She said, obviously referring to Sheila.
"Thank you for trusting me. Up let's get you some tissues to clean your face cause right now you definitely ain't looking sexy."
I tried pulling her up, as she settled on a stool and grabbed some kitchen serviette on the counter to wipe her face.
I grabbed a Pepsi from the fridge and handed it to her.
I assumed Jason already had an idea what happened probably because of the way Jake stalked out angrily. He came in to collect the barbecue sauce and didn't say anything to us. He understood that what Sara needed right now was girl talk.
Every day I always think about how lucky I was to get someone like Jason by my side. He doesn't need me to speak before he understands me. We understand each other even in silence.
"I really love him you know." Sara broke the silence.
"Then what is stopping you from being with him?"
"I'm scared Mia," Sara said surprising me. If I wanted to picture anyone who would be scared, Sara would definitely never come to my mind.
"What exactly are you scared about?" I asked really curious.
"I know it sounds cliche but I'm scared Jake my realize that all along I wasn't even worth the hassle." She muttered sadly.
"What are you saying? You are so worth it and even more. Don't ever think about that again." I shook her gently.
"That's is easy to say. Mia I've lived in a ranch all my life, one I'm scared of change. I'm not as sophisticated as those who throw themselves at Jake. I'm a fun-loving person, and I hate stuff like dinner parties and even the press. These are the things associated with Jake's life and I don't think I can cope in his life. I feel like I'm inadequate." A tear dropped from her eyes.
"Yet despite all your so-called inadequacies, Jake doesn't care at all. If that doesn't say he is ready to stay with you, I don't know what else does." I stated like it was the most obvious fact in the world.
"You're right Mia... I've been silly and over-thinking everything. Thanks, Mia for your advice." She said as she threw her hands around me.
I hugged her back and patted her back.
"No problem. Anytime."
"I'm sure you have not experienced anything like this. You're so perfect, it's like you can do no wrong." She looked at me like I was an angel.
I frowned and shook my head.
"I'm not even close. I have a huge secret I'm keeping from Jason. I think it's time I tell someone so I can get it off my chest. The truth is that Jason's dad told me that he was dying but he told me not to tell Jason. That's why no matter how much it hurt me I couldn't tell him. Jason's dad said he wanted to just want to spend quality time with his son without his sickness getting in the way. That's why he insisted despite Jason's reluctance to see his dad. Although I feel like such a fraud since I still haven't told him."
"Wow, that is a lot to take in. And she said she isn't an angel."
"How am I an angel?" I looked at her confused.
"You have a father an opportunity to reunite with his son. They shared their last happy moments because of you." She said it like it's the most obvious thing in the world.
"Well if you put it like that. I guess I'm an angel then." I shrugged my shoulders.
"Let me give you your own advice. Stop over-thinking everything." She said as she tapped the base of my head.
"Thanks, Sara."
"You're welcome... Now let me go and make out with my soon-to-be husband." She said while standing up from the stool.
"Ewww... You can say makeup you know." I wrinkled my nose pretending to be disgusted.
"Where is the fun in that?"
"Whatever you do... Don't let little Jake and Sara run around before the wedding." I joked back.
"Yes, ma'am." She mocks saluted and left the kitchen.
Apparently, two hours passed during my talk with Sara and I wasn't feeling hungry anymore. Besides I was sure that Jason already reserved my own part of the steak.
I was just passing by Sheila's room when I heard her mention Jason's name, and that stopped me right in my tracks.
Apparently, she was talking to someone on the phone.
"Yeah... No, I haven't been able to do it yet. He has a girlfriend but not for long. He loves her way too much so he won't do it willingly... Yeah... I'll drug his drink this night," She laughed at something the person said.
"I'm going to pop little Jason's soon... Jason is too Nobel, so I know he's going to have no choice but to marry me...Yeah, no problem. I'll tell you as soon as it happens. Goodbye."
Not on my watch girl! I thought as I entered my room. Jason was backing the door and looking out the window. I went behind him and wrapped my hands around his waist. But something weird happened. He removed my hand from his waist.
"What's wrong Jason?" I asked really puzzled.
"Why don't you tell me? You always have the answer to everything." He finally faced me looking furious.
"I don't understand."
"Playing dumb? Okay." He then proceeded to play the record of when Sara and I were talking about his dad.
My mouth dropped open.
"What's is wrong?... Cat got your tongue?" He mocked me.
"Who gave you that?" I asked him. From the recording, you can tell that the person probably walked right at the moment Sara and I started talking about Jason. The recording started right at the part where I said I have a huge secret I was keeping from Jason and ended right at the part where I said Jason's dad said I shouldn't tell Jason that he was sick.
"That's new. Where is the Jason I can explain?"
"Where is the rest of the recording?" I asked still shocked.
Whoever gave Jason this recording cut the recording to create a rift between Jason and me, and I hate to say it but it was working. I knew it wasn't Sara. Then my mind flashed back to Sheila's phone call when she said 'he has a girlfriend but not for long.' So this was her plan and it was definitely working. Jason's really sensitive about his father's death.
"It's Sheila right?" I tried asking again.
"Whoever gave me doesn't matter right now. What matters is that you lied to me." He raised his voice a bit.
"I didn't lie to you. I just didn't tell you." I tried to explain but he held his hand up.
"Regardless if you lied or kept the truth from me, the fact still remains that you lied to me. I trusted you so much but you threw my trust right in my face. Hell I even loved you and I could see us spending the rest of our lives together but I don't think I'll like to marry someone that keeps the truth from me."
"Loved?" My voice wavered.
"I still can't believe you lied to me, Mia." Jason shook his head and looked away in disappointment.
"So what you are trying to say is that we're over?" I asked,
"Yes." He muttered so quietly that it was barely audible.
"Look at me in the eyes when you say that. I think I deserve that much." I tried steadying my voice.
"I don't think I can do that. I'm sorry." He backed me more.
"I know you're probably hurt right now and the wounds are still fresh. That's why I understand right now and I will give you some time to think about it. It looks like I have overstayed my welcome, so I'll be on my way. If you ever find out that I did what I did for you, well you know where to find me. If you never do, then I'll know we were never meant to be and what happened was a blessing in disguise. Goodbye Jason. " I started walking out of the room. I turned back and it looked like Jason wanted to call me back but he changed his mind and dropped his hand.
I turned back and said "If you can find the full recording, maybe you'll understand why I did what I did," I was about to leave the room when I remembered something else. "Also watch out for your drink and whatever you do don't take a drink from Sheila."
I said and finally walked out of the room. As I got to the stairs, I met Dave coming up.
"Are you okay? I heard yelling, so I decided to come to check."
"I'm okay just peachy. You said yesterday that you wanted to fly back for a press conference right?"
"Yeah... I'm going right now."
"Can I come with?" I asked, hoping he would not say no
"Everything okay?... You don't want to stay with Jason?" He asked looking really concerned.
"We just had a bit of misunderstanding. So can I come with?" He slowly nodded his head even though he looked like he wanted to ask me more questions.
"You're not getting your bag?" He asked when he noticed I wasn't carrying any bag.
Suddenly Jason appeared at the top of the stairs, he looked like he wanted to say something to me.
"I don't need my bag. I just want to go." Dave hearing the urgency in my voice, quickly hurried after me as I left the house.
I didn't want to talk to Jason cause I didn't want it to be worse than it already is.
As we entered the plane and I sat down. I looked out the window and for the first time since the argument, a lone tear rolled down my cheeks.
