𝐇𝐎𝐌𝐄 (epilogue 2)

(Don't read unless you've read the chapter titled 'The end' )

AMBER MAXIMOFF'S one wish was to be normal- yet, here she was, surrounded by an army from outer space and heroes from near and far. The girl had experienced her fair share of battles from Sokovia to the airport in Germany, but this one? This one was different.
All of humanity and all living life forces were now counting on them to win the battle.

Amber kicked an alien into the stomach, sending it tumbling backwards before pinning it down and letting Dr. Strange kill the beast. She couldn't see Thanos, all she could see was the rubble of her home and a constant flow of creatures from beyond their world.

The girl huffed, before sprinting off to try locate the purple giant, she arrived at the scene just in time to see Thor arrive with Stormbreaker and attempt to pin Thanos' arm down, with assistance from Steve. Amber rushed forward, using her powers to push the giant back. A drop of sweat trickled down her forehead as she pushed harder. She felt like her veins were on fire, she let out a small yell of anger and kept pushing but she wasn't strong enough, Thanos pushed back and easily overpowered the three, sending them flying back into a pile of rocks.

Ambers vision spotted black. She coughed loudly, failing to breathe due to the impact of her body on the debris. She couldn't move- not yet. She lay still, trying to get her vision to clear. Between consciousness, she could see Carol fighting one on one with Thanos, she then spotted Tony, who seemed saddened. The girl forced herself into a sitting position despite her body's many complaints, only to see Thanos wielding the gauntlet.

Thanos smirked widely, "I am– inevitable." He boomed, raising the gauntlet and snapping his fingers, but- to Ambers surprise nothing happened except a small, metallic 'clink'. She stood up slowly, using a large piece of concrete for support, her eyes widened at the sight now laid out in front of her.

Amber watched as Tony held the gauntlet in his hands firmly, without a second thought the girl sped forward, dismissing her body's ache. She grabbed the gauntlet out of the mans hands and roughly shoved her fist into the metal glove. As soon as it encased her fingers, a searing pain spread throughout her body. She could smell the haunting smell of burning flesh, yelling and groaning as she knelt in agony, bringing her forefinger and thumb together.

"And I- am NEVER going to let you win." And with that she snapped her fingers and a blinding white flash, shot out. The girl fell back into the dusty debris, only to never arise. Her body was numb and all she could hear was the faint calling of her name before she let the darkness engulf her.

WANDA MAXIMOFF STAGGERED towards her teammates, "Where is Amber?" The girl questioned in confusion while Steve and Tony exchanged a quick look of sorrow.

"Yeah, where's the kid, guys?" Sam asked, his wings folding in as he came to a land. Both Steve and Tony, now, looked down with teary eyes, refusing to meet their gaze.

"Steve... where is she?" Wanda asked more firmly, her lip quivering slightly as she scoured the wasteland for her sister. Steve stayed silent as Sam and Wanda grew angrier.

"Come on, Steve! Where is Amber? Where is she?" Sam queried his tone harsh as Steve opened his mouth.

"Guys..." Clint's voice called out faintly from a few meters away. The four's eyes panned over to the archer who crouched over something which was hidden among the debris.

Wanda and Sam raced over, but halted upon seeing what Clint was hunched over. The archer had tears running down his face, clearing streaks of dirt. Wanda covered her mouth and stumbled back , gagging in horror as Sam looked visibly shaken and disgusted.

Amber lay still in the debris. Blood leaked from her head, one of her arms was charred and still clutching the gauntlet close to her, her dirty, purple hair surrounded her head like a halo, and her eyes were glazed over.

The girl was limp as Clint had checked for her pulse and all signs of life seemed to fade. Wanda snapped out of her shocked facade and knelt beside her sister. Her little sister, was lying in front of her, dead. Her little Amber who deserved much more than she got. The girl who didn't ask for this life. Was gone.

"I-I..." Wanda choked out, before erupting into a loud sob. Sam stood back with tears in his eyes as he watched the girl cry. Tony and Steve stood side by side as more soldiers gathered around the scene.

"C'mon Amber" The girl cried out, shaking the younger girls limp body, "COME ON!". The girl wept and screamed in agony as she bent over the smaller girl. Her cries of pain caught the attention of others as Scott, Carol, Rocket, Thor and T'Challa appeared from behind a hill of rock, All of them looking down upon the scene in shock-horror.

Wanda howled and wailed, cradling her sisters head on her lap. "She di-didn't d-deserve this..." She cried, red sparks shooting out from her body, sending multiple people staggering back. Clint placed a cautious, reassuring hand on the older Maximoffs shoulder as the older girl slowly closed Ambers eyes, so it would look like she were sleeping.

For death, truly is just falling asleep and never awaking.

AMBER MAXIMOFF'S EYES fluttered open, immediately squinting due to the bright light shining down, blurring her vision. A shadow passed over her and a figure seemed to be crouching at her side. That same figure placed his hand in hers and squeezed it tightly, his thumb running over the back of her hand.

"малютка... открой глаза (Little one... open your eyes) The boy murmured, as the girl smiled softly at the males voice.

Amber opened her eyes to meet the figure who sat beside her, she smiled softly at the man, her eyes tearing up slightly, "Is it over 'Etro?" She mumbled, propping herself up on her elbows.

"Yes, little one.. it's over" Pietro replied reassuringly, squeezing the younger girls hand,  taking in her appearance. "You've changed so much".

"It's been a long time 'Etro... too long" The girl answered, standing up with the help of her brother, she captured the boy in a crushing hug, "I've missed you so much".

"I've missed you too" Pietro admitted, wrapping his arms around the smaller girl, "There are a few others who have missed you also".

"Like who?" She questioned curiously, looking up at her brother, her white dress being ruffled in the light breeze.

"Like us" a chorus of voices echoed from behind the two. Amber turned and covered her mouth in shock, tears falling steadily from her eyes. In front of her stood Natasha and her parents, all waiting with their arms open and ready to embrace her.

THE SUN SHONE down on the location of where the Avengers Facility once stood. A crowd gathered around a small plot of woodland on the outskirts of the area, where two headstones stood firm. Many were gathered around the graves, teammates, family, kids from the orphanage, workers- anybody whose life was personally touched by Amber Maximoff. Wanda stood in tears beside Clint as Tony walked steadily towards the headstone, where he fumbled to pull out a piece of paper from his pocket.

The man cleared his throat before reading the words he'd written. "I read something once, and it reminded me of her- "You may not be one of the most luminous people, but as a conductor of light, you are unbeatable" Tony began, making the sniffles and coughs cease.

"Amber had nothing when we first met her. We gave her family and friends but we also gave her hardships that we shouldn't have, but nevertheless she worked through them like she was a light surrounded by darkness." Tony stopped, trying to blink away his tears.

"She was our glue. She held us together. Every single time something went wrong, she'd rise like a Phoenix from the ashes and try her best to resolve the situation. Amber did so much for everyone. She helped out the kids who'd been abandoned. She saw the positive in everyone, she made me feel like a dad, as if we were all part of her dysfunctional family.. which we were." Tony continued, making many of the people observing nod at his words.

"Amber was our beacon of light in the darkness. She didn't deserve this ending. Not this soon. But she got it. We can't change that... but we can change who we are and what we do. She died believing we had hope and hope is what we achieved. We won, but with the cost of  too many untimely deaths." Tony spoke, making many look down.

"I remember when Amber found out that Pietro had died. I remember hearing her screams and cries. I never wanted to hear something like that ever again- but now I wish I could just hear her, just for one last time."

The man stopped and he resumed his position among the crowd of people who all mourned the loss of the girl. Out of the crowd emerged a tall, dark haired boy, helping two small kids to the front.

"You don't know us." The boy began, his eyes red and puffy, "The only person who saw us and understood us is now lying beneath us."

"Amber was a leader- she was considerate and passionate about everything she did." The boy continued, "That included rehousing kids and making sure they had the best life they could possibly get in this situation."

The little, blonde girl stepped forward, fiddling with a small, worn thread bracelet, "My name is Lizzie. I met Amber when I was four. She took me out for ice cream and treated me like I was normal." The girl said slowly, a tear rolling down her cheek, "Amber always made sure that I was okay- she could tell when I wasn't. The last time I saw her, she told me she wouldn't die... she-she lied"

The girl burst out into a sob, and the boy swiftly picked her up and made his way back through the crowd with the two kids.

Steve shakily stepped forward, his hands shook as he placed a small charm bracelet on top of the freshly dug earth. "Amber was the change we wanted to see in the world. She was many things, " he started,

"She was Audacious, she was Spontaneous, she was Valorous and most importantly she was Luminous in everyone's time of darkness."
