[Logicality] ~ Dog-Sitting
Logan thought if he heard one more annoying yip from the fluffy bundle of energy, he would scream.
Don't get him wrong, though. Logan likes dogs. He just doesn't like when they bark at every little thing and chew on his stuff.
Thomas had left this weekend for VidCon, and he had left his new puppy with his responsible friend, Logan. Logan had accepted, foolishly thinking, how hard could it be?
The answer: Very hard.
The puppy, named Zoe, liked climbing into Logan's lap and gnawing at his necktie. One time she went running with his glasses and he had to chase around a blurry ball of golden fluff.
He had work to do. He had tests to grade before Monday.
Logan sighed. He was gonna need help.
Thankfully, he happened to know someone who loves dogs as if they represented everything good in the world. He may be irresponsible at times, but Logan felt confident that he could help in his own way.
And of course, that someone was Logan's boyfriend, Patton.
Logan picked up Zoe in one hand so that she wouldn't get into any trouble, and with the other, he called Patton.
Patton picked up almost immediately.
"Hey, Logan!" Patton's cherry voice came through from the other end. "What's up?"
"You recall how I was petsitting Thomas's puppy Zoe for the weekend?" Logan said.
"Yeah." Patton said.
"Do you think you could come over and help me with her? She's a bit of a handful. Besides, you love animals." Logan said.
"Of course!" Patton said excitedly. "I'll be over in just a second."
With that, Patton hung up, and Logan put his phone down on the couch.
Not long later, the doorbell rang. Zoe squirmed, trying to get out of Logan's firm grip on her. She barked continuously, her tail wagging against Logan's upper arm.
Logan held her to his chest as firmly as he could without hurting her, and used his free hand to open the door.
Patton's eyes lit up when he saw the energetic puppy in Logan's arms. "ZOE!"
Logan let Patton in and handed the puppy over to his boyfriend. Patton happily accepted her.
Once Zoe was secure in Patton's arms, Patton smiled at Logan. "And hello to you too, Logan." Patton leaned in to give Logan a quick peck on the lips.
Logan smiled. "I see where your priorities lie."
"Puppies first, then boyfriends. Puppies are always first." Patton teased.
Zoe managed to squirm out of Patton's grasp, and she leaped to the ground, at the surprise of both Logan and Patton. She seemed to be okay, despite the fall being a considerable height for such a small being.
Patton turned to Logan. "Does she have any toys?"
Logan nodded. "Thomas gave me several when he left Zoe with me. They're over here." Logan walked over to a bag of dog-related stuff, and pulled out a couple stuffed dog toys. They were all worn, with tears at the seams due to the puppy chewing on them.
"Perfect." Patton picked up one of them and tossed it.
Zoe bolted across the room and grabbed the stuffed toy in her mouth. She shook it around, pawed at it, and gnawed on it to her little heart's content.
"Is she gonna bring it back?" Patton asked. "That's sort of the whole point of fetch."
"She's still learning that." Logan said. "Try calling her."
"Zoe! Zoe!" Patton called, adding in a few whistles.
Zoe looked at Patton, wagged her tail, and yipped. In doing so, she dropped the toy. She bolted to Patton and started running around his feet, completely abandoning the toy.
Patton laughed and scratched Zoe's ears. "You cute little thing,"
Zoe licked Patton's hand.
Logan smiled at the two of them. Patton really bonded well with dogs.
I wonder why Thomas didn't just pick Patton to petsit Zoe.
Patton looked at Logan with a mischievous glint in his eyes. "Hey, Logan? What does a dog eat for breakfast?"
"Dog food, obviously. Although sometimes Thomas will give into Zoe's begging and give her human food." Logan said.
"Woofles!" Patton said. "Get it? Like waffles?"
Logan sighed. "Oh my... Wow."
"Why did the dog cross the road?" Patton asked.
"Patton, I swear, if you make another dad joke..." Logan said.
"To get to the barking lot!" Patton finished.
Logan sighed. "This is truly unbearable."
"Aww, c'mon, Logan." Patton smiled at his boyfriend. "You know you love me."
"Unfortunately so." Logan teased, in his own way.
Patton let Zoe run around Logan's apartment. He turned to Logan.
"I hope Thomas is meeting lots of new YouTuber friends at VidCon. These YouTube conventions are the perfect opportunity for him to interact with people he doesn't usually get to talk to." Patton said. "And I think Thomas said that Joan was going, too. It'll be nice to have a familiar face amongst the new ones."
"I'm glad Joan is going, it'll be a good experience for them." Logan said.
Zoe was zipping through Logan's apartment in her excitement.
"I don't think that dog ever runs out of energy." Logan said.
That's when Zoe decided to run in between Patton's legs. In an effort to avoid stepping on her, Patton swerved out of the way, and ended up slipping and falling backwards.
Thankfully, he didn't hit the ground. Logan caught his shoulder and supported his weight in his arms.
"Be careful." Logan said.
"Wow, Logan. You could say I really..." Patton smirked with his signature mischievous glint in his eye.
Logan knew what this meant. "Don't you dare!"
"Fell for you." Patton finished with a grin.
Logan stared at him deadpan, and then dropped him.
"OWW!" Patton whined.
Logan hid his smirk.
Zoe saw Patton lying on the floor and took that as an invitation to climb onto his chest and start licking his chin. Patton scratched behind her ears in affection.
Logan crouched down and joined the two, holding hands with his boyfriend and using his other hand to pet Zoe.
And it was right then and there than Logan decided that if it happened that he found himself ever petsitting for Thomas again, he wanted it to happen exactly like this.
