[Logicality] ~ To Love, And To Be Loved

Human AU where our fave five are roommates. And shh, don't worry. I haven't forgotten about the requests.

~~~
"Why do you hate emotions, Logan? I get that emotions aren't always fun, but you hate and completely disregard them. It's almost like you're trying to be a robot."
Roman hadn't meant anything by it when he had said it earlier that day. He didn't know the reason behind it. He didn't know that Logan had chosen to shun out all emotions... He didn't know that Logan wasn't always this way.
Memories flooded back to Logan as he sat alone in his room, going through old Polaroids. There were pictures that captured his bright smile, though Logan remembered it to be a million times better in person. There were pictures of him playing the piano, and Logan could almost hear the medley in his head. There were pictures of two hands holding ice cream cones, and Logan remembered how happy he had been. There were photos of Logan, that he had taken and slipped into Logan's notebooks when he wasn't looking. Pictures of Logan ranting on about science, or books, or math... He always thought it was cute when Logan ranted about the things he loved. Pictures of Logan with his hair messy and his tie undone, but sporting a huge grin nevertheless. Pictures of Logan with little kids, because he had always loved them. Pictures of Logan at his best, because he had done a wonderful job of bringing it out.
The last picture was what got to Logan, though.
A picture of a ring.
A ring that was supposed to symbolize a future of happiness, a ring that was supposed to symbolize the preserving of this beautiful relationship for eternity. The ring was supposed to be a promise.
Supposed to.
More memories returned to Logan, but not like the others. These were painful, bitter memories. Memories of fights, memories of tears, memories of yelling. Memories of how empty Logan had felt when he had left. The place meant for two was now meant for one. It felt so big, and Logan felt so small. He had taken all of his stuff, but it wasn't the stuff Logan cared about.
I don't really care
You can keep the things we used to share
But what did you do with my heart?
What did you do with my heart?
When he left, Logan was devastated. He swore to himself he would never love again... No, more than that. He could never feel again.
But that was before Logan met Patton.
Logan had romantic feelings for Patton. As much as he tried to deny it in his head, he knew deep down that it was true. He had romantic feelings for Patton, and he had only felt this way about someone once before.
But it wasn't like there was anything he could do about it. Why allow yourself to love when it'll only end in more heartbreak?
~~~

"His name was Christopher Medina." Logan confided.

Roman was acting as Logan's go-to love expert. He was also the first one in Logan's current group of friends and roommates to hear about Christopher, because the engagement was cut off long before Logan met any of them, and he decided that the pain was better forgotten and not shared.

That might've been a not so wise move on his part.

"Wow, Logan..." Roman said. "You had a fiancé?"

Logan nodded. "The key word there is 'had'."

"That explains a lot, actually." Roman said. "So you're scared to admit your feelings for Patton because you think it'll end the same way as Christopher?"

"Essentially, yes. If you wish to put it that way... I don't know." Logan sighed. "I just wish I could erase my feelings completely. Better not to feel at all than for it to end badly, right?"

"No, you've got it all wrong." Roman said. "Yes, heartbreak is devastating. I get it. But then you just get back up and move on. Love is an experience, and it's worth the pain to find that one true person. Look at it this way. You've gotten your first heartbreak out of the way. So everything from here on out should be better, right? Let yourself love. Let yourself live."

Logan bit his lip. "I guess..."

"There's no hesitation in the game of love, honey. You hesitate, you miss your opportunity."

Logan met Roman's sparkling eyes. He sighed. "You're not going to let me win, are you?"

"Nope." Roman said. He stretched back in his chair and cupped his hand to his mouth. "YO, PATTON!"

Logan's face flushed.

"DAMMIT, ROMAN!" He hissed.

Patton came up the stairs just a couple seconds later. "Hey, guys! What's up?"

"Logan has something he wants to talk to you about. I'll be in the other room." Roman said. "Have fun."

He closed the door behind him, causing Patton to look at Logan expectantly.

"Well, you see..." Logan said, struggling to make himself speak. It wasn't that he couldn't speak in Patton's presence, because even with his obvious romantic feelings for him he didn't find speaking to him difficult. It was just the circumstances. "There's this boy who I dated..." Patton's expression flickered to one of confusion and a bit of shock, and... something else? Something unreadable. "It was a while back, before I met you. It was serious, and I dare say it was even love. It... It was love, actually. We got engaged, but we were only engaged for about a month when he left. When he left... I dunno, Patton. I was devastated. And that's... That's when I swore off emotions and romance, essentially."

Patton blinked. "I never knew... any of this."

"I know." Logan said. "That's my own fault. I thought that it would be better to keep it to myself."

"What was his name, at least?" Patton asked.

"Christopher Medina." Logan said.

"Christopher Medina." Patton repeated, trying the name out for himself, but... There was something about his tone. Something that he was suppressing, but Logan wasn't fooled.

"Patton? You okay?" Logan asked.

"Why wouldn't I be?" Patton returned.

"I don't know. You just seem off." Logan muttered. "I just wanted to make sure."

"What, you think I'm not okay just because I heard about this boyfriend—no, sorry, fiancé—you had, what, years ago? Why would I be jealous of someone you were in a relationship with that long ago? I mean, come on." Patton froze when he saw Logan's expression. He attempted to cover up his mistake, but failed. "I mean... Why would I even be jealous of him at all, right?"

Logan didn't know what to say. He was struggling to process.

Patton, on the other hand, got nervous and further continued.

"Yes, okay so maybe I'm a little jealous, but so what?" Patton said. "I— I dunno, Logan! Maybe I just like you a whole lot and maybe it just shocked me a bit to hear about this Christopher Medina guy, okay?"

"Patton." Logan said.

Patton sighed, concluding his rant. He held his face in his hands. "God, I'm sorry, Logan. I don't know what came over me."

"Patton." Logan repeated.

"What, Logan?" Patton looked up and made eye contact.

"You never let me finish." Logan said.

"Fine, then. Finish." Patton said.

"Ever since Christopher, I swore off emotions and romance. I thought it would be better not to feel than to be heartbroken. Roman says I'm wrong. Maybe I am. I don't know anymore. But what I do know is that whether I—we—decide to act upon it, I definitely have romantic feelings for you and I have for a while. I don't know if I can love again after Christopher, but I'm willing to try." Logan said. "That is, if you're willing to try with me."

Patton blinked. "Of course. Did you have to ask? I just told you I liked you."

"So... you're willing to be my boyfriend?" Logan asked.

"As long as you're willing to have me as your boyfriend." Patton said.

Logan nodded.

"Then it's settled."

Hope you enjoyed that one shot! It was a lot of fun to write!

When I published my "Virgil's Diner" one shot, there were two users who commented and recognized that the one shot was a reference to the show "Gilmore Girls" on Netflix, and that was really cool cause I don't usually meet a lot of fellow Gilmore Girls fans. This one shot actually has a pretty big GG reference in it, but you wouldn't recognize it if you don't know the show, so basically... Those two people who recognized my Girlmore Girls reference in "Virgil's Diner"... I'm counting on you two to recognize it.
