23- A step forward
The lecture was going on and I just sat there staring blankly at the wall. If you think that I was paying 1% of attention towards the lecture, then you are wrong, ABSOLUTELY WRONG.
I need to ask the trio about coming to my house tomorrow and before that I need to atleast develop some kind of friendship with them. And if the stress isn't enough, I am on time limit. There are only 2 lectures left for the college to end for the day and I need to come up with a solution before that.
They would surely think that I am gone nuts when I ask them about coming home tomorrow. That's a obvious case when one moment the person couldn't even voice out a greeting to them and the next moment she invites you for lunch.
The bell rang loudly, indicating the end of the lecture and simultaneously managing to bring me out of my thoughts.
As the other lecture was in another classroom, everyone started leaving the class. I too packed my bag and moved towards the door when the professor called me back.
I went towards him with an confused expression. "Take this as a first warning Sia and pay attention to the class next time. I didn't call you out so as to not embarrass one of my best students in front of everyone but I won't hesitate next time", he said sounding disappointed.
"Sorry Sir, it won't happen again", I apologized guiltily.
He let me go after giving another warning.
Being alone without any friends, left me with a lot of time and to distract myself from loneliness, I used my time to study thus making me shine in teacher's eyes. But that's were it end. They knew I was a good student and so they held high expectations but I wasn't their favourite because I didn't go helping them in their work. In short, I wasn't a teacher's pet.
I left the class and tried thinking of a solution when I bumped into someone.
"Woah girl. Watch out!", Maitri exclaimed as the water spilt all over us from her opened bottle.
"Ah shit! Sorry, I was lost in my thoughts. I didn't see you. So sorry", I said guiltily.
Looks like my whole day has spent apologizing to one person or the other.
"It's so you. Even during break, you were lost in your own thoughts. You didn't even speak a word to us", Shanaya said cheerfully like she just found out something important.
"Shanaya, shut up. Don't mind her Sia, she just speaks without thinking", Jiya said when she saw my fallen expression.
"No she isn't wrong. I apologize for my behaviour. I ruined your break by being aloof. How about I make to you by a lunch? What's say, lunch at my house tomorrow?", I tried my best to apologize and handle my situation at the same moment.
Though I asked them to come home because of Mom but my apology was sincere. I wanted to make up to them for their ruined time and fulfilling my Mom's wish was just a bonus.
"Are you sure? You don't have to. We aren't angry or anything", Jiya asked to confirm.
"Yeah. Please, don't deny. I am really feeling bad for my behaviour", I tried to convince them.
Maitri was going to speak when Shanaya closed Maitri's mouth with her hands and shouted happily, "YES YES. WE WILL COME".
"God, can't you speak normally?", Maitri asked Shanaya while rubbing her ears because of Shanaya's loud voice.
Shanaya pouted but then smiled a second later. She turned towards me and said, "Give us your address. We will come for lunch".
I smiled and gave them my address. We discussed the time they would come and we parted our ways.
A deep breathe of relief escaped on being able to achieve something I deemed impossible.
I smiled widely, even danced mentally for finally taking a step forward towards healing.
I know they aren't my friends yet but still I managed to talk with them properly and that's a huge achievement for me.
