Hush
"Shh!" the librarian pointed at you. You jumped, startled. You sighed, seeing it was just the librarian. Rolling your eyes, you went back to your book.
"Hey Y/N," a voice whispered to you. A young man plopped down next to you, also holding a big pile of books. You didn't even look up. "Hi Dan." Dan opened his big books, looked at the page once, and sighed. "I can't concentrate on my law studies today," he said, rubbing his tired eyes. "Why?" you asked. He looked at you, an apprehensive look crossing his features. "I've just been so distracted." Dan lowered his voice even lower. "I met someone last night," he confided, his eyes flickering around nervously.
"Who?" you asked, now interested. "His name is Phil. I think I might be in love, Y/N." You already knew your friend was gay, so you weren't taken aback.
"What did you find out?"
"He lives up north. He's searching for a roommate to life with him. He does YouTube, and he already graduated. He's really sweet. I think I want to move in. I'll quit school, I'll-"
"Woah, slow down there, Daniel. You want to quit school? I don't think your mother would approve."
"I know, but she wants me to be happy. If she knows it's what I want, she'll let me."
You sighed. You didn't want Dan to drop out, but you felt many of your reasons were selfish. First off, Dan was your only friend, and you weren't good with people. Secondly, you were maybe kinda sort of in love with him. You knew you had literally zero chance, seeing as he didn't like girls in that way, but still. You were interrupted from your thoughts by Dan speaking again.
"He's so handsome, Y/N. Dark hair, blue eyes. He's the man of my dreams," Dan swooned, causing you to snicker. "What?" Dan asked, clearly confused. "Dan, you're acting like a lovesick teenaged girl," you giggled. Dan laughed along. "That's because I am."
At the end of the semester, Dan was set to leave. His clothes were packed, his belongings stored away. You hugged him for possibly the last time. Well, you would see him over the summer, but that was forever to you. "Bye, Dan," you whispered. "Bye, Y/N."
With that, Dan's back turned and he walked towards the cab. He got in, waved to you one last time, and then he was gone. Philip Michael Lester, you better take care of your best friend.
