Writer's Block (Answer to hi_its_mee)
What do you do when you have extreme writers block and can't think of an idea? --- hi_its_mee
I like to read a published book. I like to look at how the author wrote their story and what new vocabulary words I learned from it, and then see if it gives me any ideas for how to write my story, such as maybe I could use a really cool word in a particular paragraph of my story--like the word juxtaposition; it is my goal to use that word in a story. Studying how they structured their paragraphs and wrote dialogue is very beneficial. Also I like to look at what kind of action tags they used. Were they more complex or were they more simple?
Also Pinterest is amazing. I have a board on their specifically dedicated to writing prompts. My Pinterest username is MikaelaAbigail. Expiration Date was actually inspired by a writing prompt on there. The first time I used a prompt was for a writing exercise at a conference. I came up with a whole scene for the novel I was working on and have loved prompts ever since. They can help you learn more about your characters and unlock possible scenes that can take place in your novel. Prompts get the gears in your mind turning. Even if you don't think a prompt has anything to do with your story, write a short story about that prompt, placing your characters from your current project into it. You may be surprised.
Here is the link to the board. I'm not sure if the link will be clickable. https://www.pinterest.com/mikaelaabigail/writing-prompts/
Watch television shows and movies. They're really good for being able to picture how things could look in your book. Pinterest is also great for visualization.
You can try rereading what you've already written of the story to refresh your mind on it.
Also get out of the house and away from the computer and do stuff. The best prompts come from living life. When you hang out with people you see how people act and how dialogue should sound.
If you try every single one of these things, you're going to have a hard time containing all of your ideas.
