Chapter 1 (Part 5)

Far away, the scorching heat mercilessly invades every corner. The sun blasts its searing light from above, sending heat across the expanse of sandy dunes that blanket the vast, endless land. Around the arid desert, an oasis miraculously stands, defiant against the relentless warmth of the desert. However, the horizon begins to warp, mirroring the incoming turmoil.

The sun's golden rays caress the lush greens of the oasis, creating an illusion of peace. But, suddenly, a single leaf from a date palm sizzles, emitting thin wisps of smoke. Soon, it bursts into flames, ignited by an unseen force.

Fire spreads across the tree's crown, swiftly devouring the entire palm. A flurry of colourful macaws and sparrows, fleeing from their nests, takes flight towards the heavens. Zebras and antelopes, leisurely quenching their thirst by the pond, witness the incandescent inferno spreading. Their cries of alarm pierce the air as they frantically flee from the oasis, driven by instinctual fear.

In a nearby town, structures made of pale caramel sandstone form the sturdy walls of houses and buildings. Residents stroll along the streets, draped in loose garments that shield them from the unforgiving sun. Suddenly, the thunderous sound of flapping wings echoes, capturing everyone's attention.

All eyes turn skyward as birds disperse, their flight obscuring the blueness of the atmosphere. Squinting against the bright sky, the people watch in awe. Unexpectedly, a woman's voice rises, brimming with anxiety, as she begins to shout.

"Smoke! Look! Look!"

"Where!?"

"Over there!"

The crowd roars as they behold billowing clouds of smoke ascending towards the heavens in the distance. The sky above them transforms into a canvas of ash as burning leaves and ashes rain down on the earth. Gradually, the smoky veil expands, engulfing the surroundings and casting darkness darker than the night sky.

"Fire!"

"The oasis is on fire!"

From above, the town's establishments and buildings appear as minuscule pebbles against the vastness of the sky. However, the fire raging from the nearby oasis grows with an intensity that surpasses the very scale of the town itself. The flames leap forward, consuming the limited trees and sparse bushes that seldom grace the scorching desert. As the inferno rages on, thick black smoke flows and expands, stretching its sombre tendrils beyond the reaches of the horizon.

In another town, the sun unleashed its lethal heat on the land. The crops stretching across a vast expanse of farmland began to wither and fade. Their once-verdant hues transformed into shades of crispy brown and yellow.

The soil beneath manifests a network of geometric cracks and fissures. The leaves around the farms are as dry and brittle as ceramic. Farmers gather together, their hearts heavy with despair, as they helplessly watch their plantations wither away before their eyes.

"We are in a dire situation. The scarcity of rainfall in our region poses a significant challenge."

"If we do not take action soon, our livelihoods will be devastated. The fields have already suffered greatly."

"Our hard work, all for nought. Our crops are beyond revival."

"We must seek assistance."

"But how? Do we beseech the heavens to send us a saviour who can bring the much-needed rain?"

Suddenly, the farmers hear a call from a young boy. Their attention swiftly shifts, and they turn to face the source of the sound. As they do, their eyes meet the sight of a boy sprinting towards them, closing the distance with each hurried step.

"Father!"

"Son?"

"Father! Our sheep and goats are ailing!"

"What?"

"Come with me, Father, and I'll show you!"

The boy hastened, panting as he desperately tried to catch his breath. The farmers swiftly followed and trailed behind the young boy. The rhythmic sound of their footsteps echoed through the air as they made their way towards the wooden animal pens and enclosures.

As the boy and the farmers approached closer, they saw goats inside the pens collapsing onto the ground, their laboured panting accompanied by tongues protruding in an attempt to find relief. The animals moaned in anguish, crying for liberation from illness. However, no tears graced their eyes, for every drop of moisture had been drained from their bodies. Unable to leak a teardrop, their fur darkened as their breaths grew increasingly shallow.

The father stepped forward, his brows furrowing and his lips forming a pout. He knelt, holding onto the wooden pen as his gaze softened. The goat slowly fell to its fate as its weary eyes gently closed. As the father's eyes glistened with tears, his gaze shifted to the empty buckets near the dying livestock.

"They're suffering from dehydration and starvation..."

"If our livestock perishes alongside our crops, our survival is at stake."

"What...!?"

"We will meet such an inevitable fate unless we discover a way to bring rain."

"...Wait."

"Huh?"

"I know someone who possesses the ability to summon rain."

"Who?"

"...That man is a person of high privilege and influence."

"Who is that man? Where can we find him?"

"He resides overseas, far from our shores and lands."

"Can we reach out to that man you speak of?"

"Of course."

"Then, let us approach our ruler and urge him to dispatch a message to that man."

"Right, let's go."

"Come on, men."

"...So. How do you know that man possesses the power to summon rain?"

"Well, it is said that he has the innate ability to halt storms with his command. If he can cease the tempest, he can surely produce one."

"...What's the name of that man?"
