Chapter 6 (Part 3)

Amidst a village nestled on the mountainside, a building stood with its roof partially destroyed. The air was heavy with an eerie silence, disrupted only by the distant echoes of nature's fury. Suddenly, two loud thuds reverberated against its wooden window. With a final strike, the window burst open wide.

It was Lee who had been prying open the window. As he passed through the gaping frame, Lee instantly caught a breathtaking glimpse of the vibrant blue sky. His mouth fell open, his eyes widening in surprise.

Stepping out through the broken window, Lee's brown sandals sank into the warm layer of ash that carpeted the ground below. He tilted his head back, fixing his gaze skyward, as confusion swirled within his mind and heart. Meanwhile, from the same chamber that Lee had just exited, the remaining citizens emerged and stared at the unexpected sight of the blue sky.

Like a river, more people streamed out from the dilapidated building, forming a gathering outside as they gawked at the atmosphere. The heavy silence shattered, replaced by murmurs that filled the air. Men and women leaned toward one another, whispering and chattering.

Lee's eyes survey his surroundings, and it is then that he spots figures approaching from the distance. He squints and sharpens his focus, hope coursing through his veins. Without hesitation, he dashes forward, and his people trail behind him.

As the crowds hasten towards the Remaining Podeshire, Oliver finds himself surrounded by thick air that causes him to gasp for breath. Glancing down at his knees, he contemplates the profound significance of their quest. And as his gaze softens, an unexpected yet faint rumbling sound reaches his ears.

"Oli, look!" Sophia gasped, her voice infused with surprise as she pointed towards the distant horizon.

Oliver turns his gaze straight ahead. Then, a shocking jolt of surprise hastens through his veins as he realizes that hundreds of people have gathered before him. Breathless, he scans the crowd, his eyes darting left and right as he tries to comprehend their presence.

Lee approached Oliver cautiously. "...Are you... the Remaining Podeshire that I summoned?" he asked politely.

"I am," Oliver confirmed, his voice steady.

Lee glanced at the people behind him, seeing their eyes filled with surprise. Gathering his courage, Lee continued. "Is it you who has halted the ashfall?"

"Indeed, it is me," Oliver replied.

Overwhelmed with emotion, Lee drops to his knees. And one by one, his people kneel as well. Tears brim in Lee's eyes as he extends his hands, gripping Oliver tightly, gratitude and admiration shining in his gaze.

"Thank you..." Lee cried out. "Thank you! Thank you!" Consumed by intense emotions, Lee began kissing the back of Oliver's palms multiple times.

Oliver smiles as he watches the joyous celebration unfold. Gazing to the right, he spots his friends smirking at him. He then turns his attention to his left and catches sight of Gregory, standing motionless.

Arms crossed and lips tightly pressed, Gregory's raised eyebrow mirrors his rising anger. He glares at Lee, his dark eyes filled with resentment and frustration, before briefly shifting his gaze to Oliver. With a shrug of his shoulders and a heavy sigh, Gregory wrestles with a surge of jealousy triggered by witnessing a man kissing his spouse's hands, as the urge to release his pent-up emotions in a physical form threatens to swallow him.

Oliver keenly sensed Gregory's mounting temper. Gently, he pulled his hands away from Lee's grip. "Oh, hehe. No. Thank you. And you're welcome," Oliver responded.

Lee glanced to his sides, then stood up, turning to face the transformed landscape where the once majestic valley and mountains had flattened into a plain of ash. "I can't believe it," Lee's voice trembled. "This place used to be a beautiful sierra. Now, it's... I'm at a loss for words..."

Still irked with his eyes partially narrowed, Gregory asked, "What do we do now? How do we restore the land?"

"I have an idea," Oliver answered.

Later, everyone gathered at a summit, drawing a crowd that included Oliver and his companions. Stepping forward, Oliver fixed his gaze on the desolated village perched atop the mountaintop. He took a deep breath, taking in the sight of the entire land and the vast expanse of the horizon. The remnants of the once-thriving village lay before him, with crumbling structures and collapsed roofs resembling ancient ruins.

Meanwhile, the rest of the crowd, including Oliver's companions, stand at the back, their eyes unwavering and locked on the Remaining Podeshire. Whispers circulate among them, inclining their heads as they stare at his figure. Each person's hope is heavy, woven into the air.

Releasing a deep breath through his mouth, Oliver's smirk deepens, and his brows furrow. He outstretches his arms, extending them outward and raising them towards the heavens. The energy within him surges as he prepares to channel his power.

Excitement ripples through the onlookers as their eyes widen, bouncing on their toes. Their smiles grow irrepressible, their fingers pointing towards the ashes strewn below. A collective gasp of awe fills the air as they witness the miraculous transformation unfolding before them.

In a mystical display, the ash particles on the ground began to levitate, defying gravity. Each speck floated mid-air, merging with others to form a swirling tapestry against the blueness of the sky. The collective mass of ash drifted away, carried by the winds, and dispersed into the atmosphere, creating a sense of catharsis and renewal. The once-grey sky transformed, shedding its dark cloak and revealing a pristine, cloudless expanse of blue overhead.
