Chapter 4
If only time could be reversed, even for a day. Admiring the plush wolf that he had won for her on their first proper date, she found herself there. They may have nearly missed the bus to the infamous Ottery St Mary's tar barrels, and standing on the rammed thing was enough to give anyone horrible cramps but the night was perfect.
(This was a huge deal in Devon, clearly it's a county of psychopaths)
Making the trek from the bus stop into the town, Bryan had gripped onto her hand, arriving around twenty minutes later and instantly finding a spot to smoke.
Sneaking into a corner, conversation turned into Madeline waffling about conspiracy theories because pigeons could be spying on us if you consider the history from the war right?
Laughing to himself, Bryan gently kissed her before handing over the rolled joint. She was useless at this part considering she was a virgin to basically everything. Splitting it between them, they then headed across the bridge to the funfair where the world for a brief amount of time turned into a haze, but it was safe with him.
Colours vivid as if it were a rave on the dodgems, blinding Madeline slightly, she enjoyed the show before they hunted down the tar barrels: aka people risking third degree burns to run down the street with burning barrels, even CHILDREN. When it was eventually time to leave in the pitch black, he lead her back to the bus stop with a group of obnoxious and inebriated teenagers leading the way imitating zoo animals with a disgruntled lady following behind.
Stealing his jacket to walk back up to her uni accommodation, they chilled out in the kitchen with Alex for a while which is where everything really started.
"Mads, you need to chuck that thing out", blurted Alex.
* diverting gaze away from the wolf* "But. it's special", she argued.
" You mean when you weren't ready to have sex with him? You can go again next year", Alex responded
'I can't, he might still want me', she thought to herself, changing the topic as sharply as possible. Alex gave her a disappointed stare, like her mother probably would have in that moment before giving up. It was a hopeless argument anyway.
