Chapter 17 ━━ I Always Win

Lorna is currently at Whitmore hospital looking at Liz who is laying in bed, hooked up to machines and sleeping. Caroline's mother is dealing with cancer and Caroline has given her blood to heal her mother. Unfortunately, the vampire blood has started to take down Liz's human days.

Jo has tried many options like a full transfusion of human blood which might stabilise her condition. But no results.

Lorna walks outside to see Stefan sitting on a bench. She slowly approaches him, taking a seat beside him. "Hey."

He looks at her and gives her a sad smile. "Hey."

She heard from Elena that he had been helping Caroline with her mother's sickness the whole time. She hopes that would help him at least a little bit to move on. He deserves that much. "How are you?"

"I'm dancing in between the line of good and bad." Stefan chuckles, making her chuckle along with him. "How about you?"

Lorna shrugs. "Same, I guess." 

"Looks like we both are always ending up in the same boat." Stefan says, making her chuckle once again and nod.

"Guess so." After a small pause, she sighs. "I tried my best to move on from him after I came back. But I couldn't. I should have told you everything. I'm sorry, Stefan." 

"It's fine, Lori. We can't stop our heart's desires." He sighs. "I'm sorry for leaving you that day with him. I was angry and feeling-"

"-Cheated by me." Lorna cuts him off. "I totally understand you, Stefan. You had every right to act like that. It's totally normal. It was all my fault." 

"Shall talk about something else now? Something that can cheer both of us?" He asks.

"How about we talk about that whole friends theme again." She suggests.

"I like that." Stefan smiles.

"Starting from a friendly hug?" She asks and he nods where they both embrace. She waits for him to let go, which he takes more than 10 minutes. She gets it that he's going through a breakup because of her and she has to give him the time to move on.

"The door is here, Mr Magic Sucker." 

Lorna turns to Damon's voice. All she sees is Kai Parker, who is standing beside Damon and giving dead glares at the two former lovers and their position.His face is full of envy and anger for some reason and that makes her inner mind smirk evilly. Shoot! "Damon, what the fuck is he doing here?"

"Easy there, shh. Listen. Jo told me Liz was gonna die in eight hours if the magic kept doing its thing. He steals magic. I figured you knew where I was going with this." Damon says.

"Have you actually lost your mind? If you think he is doing this out of the goodness of his heart, I can assure you, he doesn't have one."

"You know me too much, sweetheart." Kai smirks.

Lorna rolls her eyes at him and turns to Damon. "What's the price?"

"He wants to merge. Tonight." Damon answers.

"What the actual fu-" Lorna starts.

"Hey, I think Damon is right. We don't have any other option." Stefan cuts me off, placing his hand on her shoulder. 

That's how Lorna finds herself in Liz's room with Kai, Damon and of course, Liz. 

Kai is washing his hands in the sink. "All right. I need a 12-gauge needle, stat. I don't know what I'm gonna do with it, but I need it."

"You're not a doctor, so stop playing games. Because I am a vampire and I will rip your head off if you screw this up." Lorna glares at him.

"What she said. So do your stupid little magic-suction trick and suck the magic out of her. Right now." Damon demands. 

"I can control her powers, Thank god for fate. Tell me a reason why I should be scared of her little warnings?" 

"Oh, really?" Lorna scoffs before she turns to Damon. "I'll be outside with Stefan if you want me." 

"Have fun." Damon winks and with that, she pulls the door open, but Kai's hand appears out of nowhere and slams it close.

"You're not going near that hero hair Salvatore." He warns her.

She gives him a look. "Who are you thinking that you're mine to stop me?" 

"No one." He answers with a straight face.

"Exactly." She says and tries to open the door once again, but since his hand is still blocking the door, she can't.

If someone asks her, 'why don't you use your vampire abilities?' All she can say is, 'He can control my freaking powers." Yeah. Damn.

"Fine." Lorna grits her teeth as she walks back to Damon, making Kai smirk.

"Did I just sense 'jealousy' from a certain little Siphon?" Damon grins.

Kai laughs. "Let's say that I'm not into your brother too much. He seems too uncool."

Lorna rolls her eyes. 

"And the thing is, Stefan doesn't-" Kai continues.

"Just get on with it, Kai. Listening to you talk makes me wanna die." Liz cuts him off.

"That's good." Kai says in amusement and then puts one hand on Liz's arm, the other on her cheek, sucking the magic from her where Liz seems to be in pain.

"Is it working?" Damon asks the blonde vampire.

"I have no idea." She shrugs.

Jo comes in, sees Kai and stops in horror. "What the hell is going on? What is he doing here?"

"Hey, sis. Little busy. Be with you in a jiffy." Kai says.

"Lorna?" Jo asks.

"I'm gonna let Damon explain." Lorna says and Damon nods before he leaves the room with Jo to talk. She turns her gaze back to Kai. "I'm staying with you."

"I know that you can't resist me, princess." Kai smirks and continues sucking magic from Liz.

After a moment, Kai finishes and pulls his hands away, flexing them. "There. All done."

"Sheriff, hey. How are you feeling? Are you okay?" Lorna questions Liz.

"Yeah. Yeah, I think so." Liz says and Lorna smiles and sighs. But then Liz starts having a heart attack.

"Oh, my God. I think she's having a heart attack." Lorna says to Kai.

"Oh, that is so tragic. You know, 'cause you guys jumped through hoops to get the magic out of her system, but then her ticker's just not strong enough to take a little siphoning." Kai says.

"Kai, you have to fix this!" She yells, but he disappears in the air leaving her alone to deal with Liz's situation.

"I will fix you. You're gonna be okay." She assures the old lady as she places her hands above Liz and recites a spell to revive her.

"En Dugas, Tuas, Animos!" She chants the spell and Liz gasps and opens her eyes giving her the sign that her spell succeeds. "Are you okay?"

"Yeah." Liz nods, giving me a smile and she sighs in relief.

"Is she okay? Damon walks in holding his neck.

"Where's Jo?" Lorna asks him. "Kai is out. We need to warn her." 

"That's the problem." Damon says nervously.

Next moment, Lorna rushes to the park and notices Kai leading Jo to the centre of the park.

"Look at those pretty planets, all twinkly and bright. Oh, Josette, you would not believe how sick I am of eclipses." Kai says to his twin sister.

"Let's just get this over with." Jo says.

Kai cuts his hand open. "You know, if you think I didn't spend the last 18 years in solitary thinking about you screwed me over last time, you're wrong. So if this is just another setup, I'll rip something out more important than a spleen. Like a tongue or a heart. So, any closing remarks?"

"You're a parasite. You killed the people I loved, you shoved a hunting knife in my gut. You destroyed my life. Now I'm gonna destroy yours." Jo holds out her hand for Kai to cut; Kai jerks it and cuts it.

"I guess we'll see. Won't we?" Kai says.

"No!" Lorna yells, but it's too late because Kai and Jo hold hands and Jo starts the spell.

"Sanguinem desimilus, sanguinem generis fiantus." 

"Sanguinem desimilus, sanguinem generis fiantus.Sanguinem desimilus, sanguinem generis fiantus." Both of them chant.

Suddenly Jo falls away and faints. 

"Jo!" The blonde rushes to her side and Luke walks around the corner.

"What the hell did you just do?" Kai questions Luke.

"Oh, I just gave my big sister a little magic knock on the head. But don't worry, she'll be fine. Because you're gonna merge with me." Luke answers.

Kai starts laughing and pats Luke on the cheek, Luke slaps away his hand and pushes Kai away. "Ohh, you wanna merge with me. I hate to break it to you, little brother, but we're not twins. All right, that's not how this is supposed to work."

"Well, that's true. But we share the same parents, the same bloodline and thanks to your timeout in the magic penalty box, we're the same age. So it's definitely a Hail Mary and maybe it won't work. But I'd do anything to save my sister's life, so-" Luke cuts his hand and tosses the knife on the ground." -we're gonna give it the old college try.

"Thanks, but I'm gonna pass." Kai says.

"Phasmatos Motus Robix." Luke magically pulls Kai to him, holding his face with one hand. "What's wrong? Are you afraid to play chicken with someone who might actually beat you?"

Kai shoves Luke's hand away. "Fine." He grabs Luke's cut hand. "It's your funeral."

Kai and Luke start to chant once again.

"Sanguinem desimilus, sanguinem generis finantus. Sanguinem desimilus, sanguinem generis fiantus. Sanguinem desimilus, sanguinem generis fiantus. Sanguinem desimilus, sanguinem generis fiantus. Sanguinem desimilus, sanguinem generis fiantus.

Jo suddenly wakes up and notices what's happening. "Luke, no!"

But that doesn't stop Kai and Luke who continue the spell. 

"Sanguinem desimilus, sanguinem generis fiantus. Sanguinem desimilus-"

"Luke, no!" Jo yells.

"Sanguinem generis fiantus. Sanguinem desimilus, sanguinem generis fiantus." Luke and Kai's eyes both turn white.

"Luke! Stop!" Jo yells once again.

"Sanguinem desimilus, sanguinem generis fiantus. Sanguinem desimilus, sanguinem generis fiantus." Kai and Luke fall backwards, unconscious.

No!" Jo gets up and goes over to Luke, cradling his head in her lap. "Luke, come on. Luke, Luke wake up."

Lorna looks at Luke and back at Kai who's still on the ground unconscious. She selfishly prays for Kai. It's true that she hates him. But she loves him more. 

"Luke? Wake up, Luke." Jo yells as Luke opens his eyes.

Lorna starts to hear Luke's heart begin to beat, making Jo sigh in relief. "Oh my God."

Is Luke alive? Does that mean that Kai-dead? And that's the moment Lorna speeds herself to Kai and kneels down next to him. Her eyes start to water as she cradles his head into her lap. He has to wake up. He can't leave her like this.

"Oh, my God. Luke. He's gone. He saved me and he's gone." Jo cries loudly, making her look at Jo and back at Kai confusedly. She even can't hear Luke's heartbeat anymore and Kai's heart starts to beat instead of Luke. She can feel herself feeling so much alive as she realises that Kai is fine.

Kai slowly opens his eyes and begins to get up. He caresses her cheek with a grin. "You win some, you lose some. Except for me. I always win."

"See you soon, princess." He then kisses her forehead and disappears.
