Epilogue

Liam’s POV

Today is going to be special. I’m going to surprise Melanie with a farewell party with her family and friends. She and I are going away together for College in Washington. She recently receives her acceptance letter a month after mine. It was her choice to go to Washington, and I secretly applied for the same school, and ended up getting accepted first. She was furious, of course; but, I kept her positive.

I woke up a little early today since me and my friends would be decorating for the party in my house. I got my phone and called Melanie, to check on her.

“Hello, love. Morning.” I greeted as she picked up the phone.

“Liam, seriously. It’s six in the morning… you know I wake up at seven, can you just wait an hour…” she answered, her voice thick with sleep.

I look at my watch and let out a breath. “Sorry. I just miss you, an hour is too long. You know I want to be the first thing you hear in the morning.” I said and paused to smirk. “Go back to sleep. I’ll see you later.” I added.

“Uhm…” she said, and sighed. She hangs up the phone first before I could react.

I smiled at the phone as I heard the end tone. I was thinking of her for a moment after the call when someone jumped me from behind.

“Dude cut that goofy look on your face. Did you phone Melanie?” he asked as he took the phone from me.

“Geez, Chris… give that back!” I shouted, wrestling him to get my phone back.

Chris was very supportive of me as much as the rest of the team when I started dating Melanie four months ago. After that first week, with the Lit project, she and I continue to hang out but as friends first. Though, we both knew the feeling was mutual, she wanted it to be slow. Somehow, a month of that, she gave in. That was prom night, and I asked her to be my girlfriend in front of the whole junior and senior class. I almost thought she would be mad and say no, but instead she hugged me and said yes. From then on, we were both inseparable.

At the moment, Chris and I are waiting for the rest of the team to come; it was almost 12 when they all arrived together.

“Really guys? It’s almost 12. We have at least 5 hours to decorate and get the food delivered. At least, Chris and I have started a little.” I said, annoying. I let out a huge breath and rubbed my temple. “Help us out, no lunch for you all. Since it’s late, I’ve guessed you have eaten already.” I added.

“Dude, Chill. I though Larry texted you. We were at the usual spot. Melanie got to us.” Stuart said, looking annoyed then he looked at Larry. “You didn’t text him?” he said.

“I thought I was…”Larry said, sheepishly while looking at his phone

“What? You saw Melanie!” I shouted with surprise. She would be suspicious.

“Chill. She doesn’t know. That’s why we were late. We tried to look unsuspicious. She thinks we were there to hangout like any other day. And the package is safely delivered unnoticed, so there…” Stuart said, and handed me a box.

“She isn’t suspicious?” I asked as I got the box from him. I was feeling a little annoyed and pressured at the moment.

“Chill. No, she doesn’t know a thing. She was with Eddie, he help us out.” Stuart said and smirked.

I let out a huge breath, and felt relax. Eddie was in charge of distracting Melanie today and delivering her to the party. He was very excited when I asked him to help out. It made me smile thinking about it.

“Okay. Let’s start decorating. Stuart, you can handle the pool with the guys. Chris and I have the living room covered.” I instructed. “Now, huddle up. We can do this. In three…” I said, as we huddle up and put our hands together. “Let’s go team!” we all said, and dropped our hands the same time.

For the rest of the day, we spend our time decorating and preparing the surprise for Melanie. It was supposed to be for the both of us, but I have another surprise in mine for her.

Melanie’s POV

Today, I was supposed to be packing up for Washington. Liam and I would be heading out together in a few days with Eddie and Chris. Liam and Chris got accepted in Washington state and play for them. I was furious, at first, since he got in to my dream school before me. Then, Eddie and I applied together, and we got our acceptance letter a month after Liam’s acceptance. So, we planned on staying together in the same apartment. For the rest of the summer, I mostly hang out with Liam, Eddie and Chris.

It was 6 in the morning and I was already awake. Usually, I would be awake at 7, but Liam called me and woke me up. Since, I wouldn’t be able to sleep again; I rolled out of bed and get myself ready after Liam called me. Eddie texted and asked me to hang out with him today.

When I got down stairs, after an hour of slow bath and fixing myself, Eddie was already there eating breakfast with my mother.

“Wow. You’re early!” I exclaimed with surprise.

“Morning to you too.” He said, with a smirked. “I knew that you would ditch me for Liam, so I’ll have to be a step ahead.” He added after he took a bite with his toast.

“I’ve never ditched you. You ditch me, remember?” I said, as I took a seat opposite from him and grab a toast from him place.

“Hey, that’s mine. And, no I didn’t ditch you.” He said sternly and continued eating.

I smirked at his remark. He knew me too well. “Okay. You got me today. I was heading out to Liam’s but I was going to text you to meet me there. So, I’m not ditching.” I confessed.

“Not today. No Liam today. You hang out with him too much and you’ve neglected Me.” he said, and pouted. “Besides, that boy isn’t going anywhere… he is too whipped.” He added and giggled.

I joined him and laugh at his comment. For the rest of the morning, Eddie dragged me around town and went shopping to the mall. Finally, before lunch, I was worn out and asked him to take me to my favorite coffee shop, our usually chill spot.

“I’ll have a blueberry cheesecake and mixed berry for my drinks. The usual.” I said to Eddie, as I sat down at our usual booth.

“I know. Be right back, and stay.” He instructed and looked at me sternly.

“I’m not going anywhere.” I said, looking innocent. I sighed as he walked up the counter to order. I let my attention wonder around the shop when I notice one of Liam’s friends, Stuart.

“Stuart!” I shouted and waved at him. He looked at me with full of surprise but got himself composed in a second.

He walked up towards me with the rest of the graduating football team. Stuart stood in front of me with a soft smile. “Hey, Melanie. What are you doing here?” he asked.

“I’m chilling with Eddie. What are guys doing here?” I said and asked, looking at the rest of the guys, standing around the booth.

“We are just passing by, grabbing coffee.” Stuart replied.

“Oh. Are you going to Liam’s?” I asked with a smile, a plan molding in my head.

Stuart looked at me knowingly but didn’t answer. Then, Eddie showed up with a tray filled with our food. “What are you guys doing here?” Eddie said, as he walked up towards us.

“We are here to get coffee.” Stuart replied, with a pleading took.

At that moment, I felt something was off. Then I looked at Eddie, he looked impassive, like he was holding in his anger.

“You guys run along. You’re ruining my day with Mellie.” Eddie said, making his frustrations known.

“Sure. I’ll see you guys later.” Stuart said, as he slowly backed out as did the rest of them.

“Wait!” I shouted. “Can we hitch a ride with you? You are going to Liam’s right?” I asked, sounding hopeful.

Instead of Stuart answering me, Eddie glowered at me. “No Liam today. Let those guys have their fun since it would be their last.” Eddie said sternly to me.

“Okay. I’m sorry Stuart. Tell him, I said Hi or something.” I said, looking down. I sighed after they left with a box in hand.

I glanced at Eddie as I took a bite of my blueberry cheesecake. “Are you mad?” I asked, after I swallowed it.

“You look so guilty. And, no, I’m not.” He said with a smirk on his face. “Let’s just enjoy today with each other, if you behave well, I could drive you to Liam’s place later.” He added.

“Okay. I’ll behave.” I replied feeling hyped up about seeing Liam.

“Girl, you’re so whipped…” He said, and laughed.

We hanged out for a while before heading out to a different location. The next place we went was at the park. He bought me a cone of vanilla ice cream to keep me from prying him to take me to Liam. Though, we would have been hanging out since that week with him, it felt weird if he wasn’t there beside me. It was as natural as breathing air that he was beside me. Dating someone for four months and already has this feeling are both good and bad. But, for me, it was always a good thing.

Eddie gave up around five in the afternoon when he took me to the movie theater to watch a chick flick movie. All that time I’ve been bugging him with side comments about Liam.

“Ha! Liam does that all the time, it’s so funny!” I comment at one point when the lead male surprised his co-star, lead female star for their anniversary. “Though, he only surprises me on weird occasions.” I added.

“I know.” Eddie replied, with a smirk; then, he coughed to hide his laughs.

I stared at him for a while since I felt that he was hiding something from me. He may not be that easy to read, but he slips up sometimes when he gets too excited about something. I continued looking at him until he felt my stare.

“What?” he asked; feeling conscious with my stares.

“You’re hiding something…” I stated, and kept my stare. Though the place is dark, since we were inside a movie theatre, I kept my gaze towards him.

“Really? What made you think that?” he asked, sounding indifferent.

“You seem weird today, actually…” I admitted.

“You’re just over thinking things. You just trying to annoy me so that you could go to Liam.” He fired back with a smirk.

“Okay. You caught me there… but, still… there’s something I’m missing…” I said, trailing the thought off and thought about something weird that happened today. One thing was the one in the shop with Chris and Stuart. Something was off.

“You’re just missing Liam. Now, let us finish the movie and we’ll head there. You’re ruining my mood.” He said, sounding annoying; but, his voice has an edge of excitement to it.

When we were finish, he drove me directly to Liam’s house. As we got there, the place was unusually quiet and dark. I got out of the car feeling nervous for some reason. Eddie led the way to Liam’s front porch step, dragging me behind him. There was something wrong with everybody today, and I do not like it.

Liam’s POV

I heard the car pull over in front of our house. Suddenly, I was feeling nervous yet happy at the same time. Everybody behind me silently squealed with excitement. Melanie’s mother and brother were here. My parents and grandparents, and my friends are also here. All of the people who were close to our heart are gathering inside of my house’s dark living room.

Then, I was reeled back to reality when I heard voices in the front porch step.

“Why is it dark in here? Maybe nobody is home.” A soft female voice said on the other side of the door.

“Come on…” a male voice said, and then I hear the doorknob turned and a small creak of the door as it opened.

When I heard the footsteps slowly walked towards us, I turned the lights on. Then, everybody jumped from where they were hiding and shouted, “Surprise!”

Melanie looked startled for a moment, and then she smiled widely and laughed. “Seriously… a surprise party?” she said between giggles. She looked at each and everyone in the room and gave them a hug. I stood by beside the switch at the back of the crowd.

“Where’s Liam?” Melanie asked after hugging everyone.

“Dude, there’s no use hiding back there. She will find you eventually.” Chris said, walking towards me with a smirk.

“Screw you, Chris!” I said to my best friend, and smirked back. I walked away from my stance and headed towards the crowd surrounding Melanie. They made a small aisle that led me to her.

“Hey you…” I said when I finally saw her, and slowly close the distance between us.

“Hey to you too…” she replied as she reached in front of me.

Just looking at her, standing in front of me, I was captured by her gaze. Eye that were the color of hazelnut with a hint of gold in them, it was enchanting and warm. She also looked back at me with a light blush on her cheeks that complimented her pale skin. I unconsciously raise my hand and caressed her rosy cheeks as she put her arms around my neck.

“Love what you see?” she asked with a soft giggled. Her face was inches away from mine that I felt her warm breath.

“Pretty much… I am looking at the best scenery in the world.” I answered with a soft smile and leaned closer to her. In that moment, I was captured by her very presence. Everybody around me turned into a blur, and it was just her and me.

“Uhm… I also like what I see.” She commented back and leaned closer to me, our lips just an inch apart.

“Just kiss already!” someone shouted, ruining a brief moment we had. I was sure it was Chris.

“Take a hike, Chris!” I commented back and chuckled.

“Get a room you two!” this time, it was Eddie who shouted.

“Yeah sure… prepare it first Eddie… don’t forget the scented candles.” Melanie commented back at Eddie and looked at him to stick her tongue out.

“Very original, Mellie…” Eddie said with a smirk.

“Come on everyone. To the kitchen before the food gets cold... and Congratulations Melanie and Eddie too.” My mom said, interrupting everybody’s laugh.

Everyone followed my mother towards the kitchen while Melanie and I stayed behind for a while, still in each other’s embrace. I held her closer to me as she pulled me down to her face.

“I’m still waiting for that kiss, Mr. Summers.” She said with a smirk.

“Got it, Ms. Curtland.” I replied and chuckled. Then, I leaned down and our lips met, crushing into each other. A kiss so sweet and passionate; in that moment, the world stood still. It was only the two of us.

After, we broke apart to gasp for air, I said, “Did you know you’re my First love?”

I pulled away from her to see her whole face; she looked flushed but glowing with passion. She smiled at what I said and replied, “Did you also know that you were also mine?”

"Then, I’ll take that as a yes on my part that you would accept this..." I said, trailing off as I got a small box in my pocket and present it in front of her.

She looked at it for awhile before grabbing it and opened. She gasps as she saw the diamond encrusted ring inside the box. Then, she looked at me and smile. "How much is it?" she asked.

I laughed at her question before answering it. "It's a hand-me-down from my grandmother." I answered then chuckled.

"I love it... and, it's not yet a yes if you don't ask me the question." she said and smirked. Her eyes has a teasing glint on them

"Ms. Melanie Curtland, I promise to love you and only look at you. This ring would be the proof of that..." I said, and took the ring from her, and slowly slid it into her left ring finger.

She looked in to my eyes, and it twinkled with more love and passion that it did before. Before she could answer, our lips met again. And in that moment, we both knew that the feelings were always mutual since before that week which changed everything.

After breaking away for air again, she confidently said, "Yes!"

From then on, our life together began...

THE END.
