Books and Apps
Here's some books and apps that have definitely helped me with my writing.
Books
The Emotion Thesaurus
This book lists the different emotions, along with the thoughts and actions associated with each of them. It definitely helped me, an emotionally immature autistic person, to learn more about how emotions are normally shown. It also helps if you don't get out to observe people very often.
The Positive Traits Thesaurus
This one here lists a bunch of positive traits along with their characteristics, associated thoughts and feelings, negative consequences for those traits, and what characteristics could cause tension.
The Negative Traits Thesaurus
This one lists the negative traits along with their associated thoughts and feelings, possible causes, ways that the negative trait could be helpful, and, of course, different traits that could cause tension.
Write Your Novel in a Month
I must say, I'm a big fan of Jeff Gerke. His books on the craft of writing are all witty and informative, as well as positive and uplifting.
This one goes over the basics of novel writing and covers the process of writing a novel in thirty days, whether it's for National Novel Writing Month or just because.
Plot Versus Character
This book basically covers how to create both strong plots and fantastic characters! This book also teaches you how to make both work together in perfect harmony.
The Art & Craft of Writing Christian Fiction
This book covers basic storytelling craft and covers how to incorporate Christian faith into it. It talks about some of the tougher topics, like how God's Love and other attributes should be demonstrated in fiction, as well as how the use of profanity should be handled.
1,000 Awesome Writing Prompts
This book is really fun to just go through, especially when you're out of inspiration. It includes prompts for speculative fiction, action, short fiction, and more.
Apps
Google Docs—
Google Docs is easily my favorite writing app. Why?
First of all, it's completely free. All you have to do is make a Gmail account, which is also free. Secondly, it basically has all of the features of Microsoft Word. Thirdly, it's basically connected to your email account so you can easily share your document with others. You can also control whether the people you share it with can edit it or not.
Google Keep—
This app is amazing! You can take notes as you please and keep pictures and drawings on there as needed. You can also give them labels for easy organization! Then, when you're in your laptop, you can go to Google Docs and open up the Keep notepad through it so your notes are right beside your document.
Lists for Writers—
This handy-dandy app is full of lists that are so helpful! Unfortunately, the app costs about $4. But it is so worth it!
I will update this list as the need arises!
