LANIE WALKED INTO WEST VALLEY HIGH alongside Demetri and Hawk, attempting to contain her nervousness as the boys continued to research her grandpa on the tablet. She still kept the secret that Terry Silver was her grandfather; she wasn't sure why she didn't want anyone to know, but she thought it was better to leave it between her family as of now.
"Vietnam vet turned to a businessman. Had a few ups and downs, but turned out pretty rich. Not much dirt other than some toxic waste scandal in Borneo back in the 80s," Demetri said, while Lanie fidgetted with the copper rusted colored charm on her necklace.
Hawk and Demetri proceeded to talk about Lanie's grandfather, with her drowning out her hearing, completely distracted by her thoughts. From her peripheral vision, Lanie glimpsed sight of Demetri talking to Yasmine while Moon was talking to Hawk.
When Lanie felt the abrupt tap on her shoulder, the girl instantly got defensive to only see that it was Hawk who wanted to get her attention.
"Damn, Lanie, what's your problem? You've been acting sketchy all day," Hawk said scanning Lanie's body for any signs of why she was acting eccentric.
"N-Nothing, just thinking," Lanie muttered softly, forcing a smile on her face. Hawk looked at Moon and she noticed the nervous habits immediately. Moon tugged Lanie's wrist gently, her warm skin grazing against Lanie's.
When she pulled her into a more secluded spot in the school, Lanie furrowed her eyebrows in confusion, wondering why Moon took her away from the group.
"Now that we're alone in a place without any boys, plus Yasmine, you can tell me what's actually on your mind, Lanie. I know there's something in there that's eating you up inside and I don't want you to keep those toxins in your body. It's bad for your aura."
Lanie contemplated if she should tell Moon everything that was on her mind. Sure, her and Robby's breakup was known by most of her mutual friends, however, there was this nagging feeling in her body, something else that's making her restless and frustrated.
"I honestly don't even know Moon. There's something in my head that is eating me alive and I have no idea what it is. I think something bad is going to happen." Lanie huffed out a frustrated sigh, pursing her lips to refrain herself from showing too many emotions in school.
Moon looked at the girl with sympathy, feeling sorrow for Lanie's misfortunes. She went up to the girl and engulfed her in a tight embrace, catching Lanie off guard slightly, but hugged her back with a tight squeeze of friendship.
"Just know that whatever you're going through, you don't have to go through it alone, okay? I'm here for you Lanie, always. Love you."
"Thank you, Moon, love you too."

Despite being broken up with Robby and not wanting to see him at all, Lanie decided that it was time to face her fears and insecurities and go back to the dojo, doing what she loved best. She loved karate; that was it and she wasn't going to let one boy get in the way of her training for the All Valley.
When Lanie walked into the dojo, the tarnished gold bell chimed loudly, all eyes on the Capuletgue girl. She simply avoided the stares and walked her way in the backroom, seeing her grandfather with a black tank top on, sweat dripping off his forehead from the activity as he hit the punching bag repeatedly.
"Ah, there's my favorite granddaughter," Terry said with pride, taking a break from his vigorous exercise.
"Um, I think I'm your only granddaughter? Maybe? I don't know," Lanie joked, a small smile forming on Terry's lips. If Lanie wasn't his granddaughter, she probably would have thought that the smirk was filled with malicious intentions, but she was blinded by the fact that he was family.
"Unless I have other kids I don't know about besides your father then yeah, you're my only granddaughter."
Lanie winced slightly at the mention of her father, memories she wished she would forget, endeavoring to resurface in her brain. Terry noticed Lanie's uncomfortableness and instantly tried to divert the subject.
"So, Bunny, I heard you and Keene are done for?" Terry asked as if he was oblivious, even though he was one of the main causes of their hellacious breakup.
Not that this subject was a better topic compared to her father, but Lanie preferred to talk about anything besides her parents, so she answered Terry.
"Yeah, it was pretty bad. I honestly don't know how I'm going to get over this," Lanie admitted, frustration attempting to consume her. She took in a deep jagged breath of air and tried to relax from the Japanese calming techniques that Chozen taught her.
"I know it seems like the world is ending, but you have so much in your life that you should be excited for. Like the All Valley." Lanie chuckled lightly and Terry continued. "But seriously Lanie, you are a beautiful, strong, young woman who I know for sure will get whatever she wants in life if she puts the power and motivation in it."
"I guess. Thanks, Grandpa, I should get back to training now." Lanie gave Terry a small hug, him reciprocating, and pressed a gentle kiss on top of her head. Lanie walked back into the main dojo and saw that most of her friends were gathered up in a circle.
Furrowing her eyebrows in confusion, Lanie walked up to the group, wondering what they were being so secretive about.
"What are you guys talking about?" When the Cobra's caught sight of Lanie, they instantly shut their mouths, silence filling the air. None of them would dare to say a word about what they were planning to do to Hawk, knowing that Lanie was on decent terms with him.
"It's nothing, Lanie," Tory said, hoping to reassure the girl from her overthinking mind.
But that didn't work.
Lanie was the granddaughter of Terry Silver and Chozen Toguchi and with both of those temperamental minds combined, Lanie was a ticking time bomb when it came to her temper. Her jaw was tensing and her chest was racing in anticipation.
"You sure about that? It really seems like you guys are being middle school girls who are hiding secrets. Should I buy us matching charm bracelets while we're at it?" Lanie asked the group sarcastically.
Before anyone could respond, Robby wrapped one of his strong arms around Lanie's waist and pulled her into the backroom, ignoring her struggle of attempting to break free from his grip, and both teens were now alone.
"Robby, what the hell? Don't you dare touch me like that without my permission again," Lanie seethed in anger. Robby simply rolled his eyes and sassily placed his hands on his waist.
"You used to let me do that every time when we were dating?"
"Yeah, but we're not dating anymore. Get your shit straight, Keene."
Robby rolled his eyes in frustration from his ex-girlfriend and his patience was on a thin line, with conflagration attempting to fray it even faster. "God, you're so annoying."
"I can say the same thing for you too, honey," Lanie said, a fake sarcastic smile on her face. Robby nearly had enough, that line of patience frailing quicker than ever. He pushed back Lanie on the green wall in the back room, the old acrylic paint slowly chipping off the textured room.
His arms barricaded Lanie in his embrace, nowhere for her to go and both teens looked each other dead in the eye, the sexual tension highly evident, but the pair were oblivious as their anger subsided their other conscious feelings.
"Look at me, Lanie," Robby said in a low and seemingly threatful tone, but Lanie didn't lose her tough demeanor as she stared at him without blinking an eye.
"Oh trust me, Robert, I'm looking at you all right," Lanie said in a monotone, her deadly gaze still not breaking away from Robby's.
"You never let me explain my side of the story," Robby muttered, his voice now soft, and eyes filled with anguish and it almost caught Lanie off guard. Almost.
"Okay, by all means. Explain." Robby opened his mouth, desperately needing to tell Lanie the truth, but before words could even escape his lips, another vague familiar voice filled the back room.
"Well, aren't you two the cutest." With that traumatizing familiar voice that rang through Lanie's head, her heart dropped, her skin shivering from the horrible memories associated with that voice. Lanie's mouth was dry, her muscles tightening and Robby stared at her with realization as he recognized that voice too.
"It's so amazing to see your beautiful face again Delaney." When the person said that, Robby whipped his head around and glared at the familiar boy, his fists clenching and standing in front of Lanie in a protective manner. Even though they were broken up, that didn't dissuade Robby from protecting the girl he still cared about.
"Dammit, Parker, get the fuck out of this dojo," Lanie cried, her voice strangling in the process. The boy laughed evilly, rubbing his hands together as if he was an evil wizard who was brewing up a vicious plan.
"Oh, honey, I'm only getting started."
