(5) - Something New

ACE BUMPS HER SHOULD AGAINST the redhead's, and with a smirk suggests that they go to the library to calm down after "Thanks for saving me Red." Ace says with a smile and Natasha rolls her eyes.

"Don't call me Red." Ace's grin widens and she nods.

"Alright then, Nattie pie." Natasha's cheeks turn a light red as a blush dusts them.

"Is that a blush I see!?" Ace exclaims with her hands pressed against her own cheeks.

"Of course, not. Now shut up and follow me." Natasha yanked Ace's jacket to the side and pulled the confused woman into a random building.

"Where are we-" Natasha shushes Ace loudly and Ace snaps her jaw shut. The building is dark and cold but Ace can make out the shape of the bookshelves.

Natasha keeps pulling them until they reach the back of the library and then releases Ace's arm. Ace didn't want to admit it, but she liked the dominance Nat just posed over her. In this area, it's a mess and Natasha uses the wall to slump to the floor. She hisses and lifts her shirt, "That bastard got me," Her voice is lacking emotion but Ace is concerned for her.

"Uh... here!" Ace pulls off her shirt and tank top to give Natasha the tank top.

"No, it's fine, really," Ace's cold stare shuts Natasha up as Ace ties the fabric of the thin shirt around Natasha's ribs.

"You could get an infection..." Ace mumbles quietly as Natasha stares at the woman's tattoos.

When Ace's blue eyes meet Natasha's green eyes she pauses for a second, feeling something entirely foreign and new spread through her. A desire, "Basorexia." Ace says out loud, knowing the word she was looking for immediately. Ace can feel herself leaning in, wanting... This realization causes her to yank back away from Nat and take a deep breath.

Natasha's brows crinkled in confusion. "Are you okay?" Ace nods.

She doesn't look at Natasha's eyes or her face for that matter. She writhes her hands with one another and tries desperately to calm her erratic heartbeat. Ace was sure Natasha could hear the loud thumping from her position on the floor. Ace moves toward the floor and leans on the wall opposite of the redhead.

"This is complicated." Ace raises a brow in question while fishing her compact and lipstick out. Natasha takes a deep breath, her right-hand applying pressure to her wound. "Finding a new cover after outing myself, S.H.I.E.L.D, and HYDRA... it's all so new to me since I was a ghost from my birth."

Ace agrees with Natasha, "Yes, it is." Natasha shakes her head at the woman.

Ace had no idea what it was like to be in the public eye and only was whenever she was in a highspeed chase or in the middle of a standoff.

She was known for causing trouble and havoc. Always marking her territory either by spray painting an ace of hearts on the wall or taping a card up. But the police still had trouble tracking the crazy woman down. She was crazy, but she wasn't stupid, and the police hadn't caught on to the fact that maybe, just maybe this crazy lady wasn't an idiot.

The police didn't want to even approach the idea that Ace was the one dealing the cards and that they weren't the cats, they were the mice. But Ace knew exactly what was going on and how to piss the cops off just enough to grab their attention, but she also knew exactly how to get out of their attention.

Ace has caused more than enough turf wars between the drug cartel and the Russians, the Irish and the Chinese, the list goes on. That's how she ran into the Punisher and even grew to enjoy his hardass attitude. But, much too soon he left town because the police were on his trail. "You've never had to find a new cover, Ace. No one knows who you are." Ace shakes her head.

"I know... I don't even know who I am. But you knew my name, how?"

Natasha smiles at the thought, "It's my job to know who any possible threats of S.H.I.E.L.D are." Ace sighs at not getting the answer she wanted. She wanted to know why she couldn't remember her mother's name or her birthday or if she had any siblings...

"Nattie?" Ace asks while biting her lip, Natasha looks up from her nails.

"Yea?" Ace takes a deep breath.

Ace wanted to ask, "Who am I?" But she knew better than anyone not to ask someone that. The last time she did she was told she was "A lost cause," and "just a stupid little girl." By someone whom she would call a friend, she didn't know why they answered like that... or who that person was but the vague memory of that made her want to forget everything.

The flashes of green hair and white skin flash before her eyes, then a sinister smile flashes before she can cry out for help she feels warmth surrounding her. Someone's hands on her cheeks, someone holding her, calling out to the small girl in her way too big mind. The maze of memories lost to her taunting her; threating to smush her.

Ace cries out and clings onto the warmth, trying to pull herself out of her mind. This foreign place that belongs to a woman named Roseana, someone she'd never met before or ever meet. This woman who wiped her brain to feel safe and left the shell of herself to defend itself when she couldn't.

"Ace, come on. Come back to me," Ace opens her eyes and she can finally see the warmth that saved her; the woman with beautiful red hair and grass green eyes. The sun shining through the window made her hair light up like flames in a fireplace. The sight of this made Ace shudder because the memory was someone else's.

The memory was Rose's, but Rose didn't have what Ace did; Rose didn't have Natasha and Ace knew that Rose would be jealous of Ace if she hadn't been a coward and wiped her brain.
