The mountains gather on the land,

range as far as eye can see

unto the horizon's misty border

resting, patient, calm and still.

The mountains soaring row upon row,

nestling, crowded on Earth's breast

twixt narrow valleys in the mist

when dawn the mystery does reveal.

The mountains change but slowly,

to mark the passing of the ages,

'neath sun or everchanging moon,

stoic, tranquil, the land they fill.
