@GeorgiaMay_Writes
Hello and Welcome,
Please meet GeorgiaMay_Writes who was one of our overall winners in the Adventure in Action Contest.
💥What's the story behind your Wattpad Username, if any?
I started off using my Xbox gamer tag 'GlitterFairy' and then decided when I began looking to publish my first novel that I needed a pen name. Georgia May is part of my full name, and it's what I intend to use on my books if they ever make it to print ☺️
💥What led you to Wattpad initially? Did you join to read or write?
I joined to read, not realising until I signed up that I was also able to create and publish my own works. Now I enjoy doing both on Wattpad!
💥How long have you been writing?
I've been writing for as long as I've been able to hold a pen. It started with short stories as a young child and blossomed from there.
💥Do you like to write the same genres you read? What are your favorite genres?
I do. I love fantasy books of all kinds, and romance is one of my favorite sub-genres. I have read some romance-only novels, and I enjoy some works of horror now and then 😊
💥Besides reading and/or writing, do you have any other hobbies?
I like to do some gaming when I have the time, and I'm learning to use Canva and CapCut to create graphics and videos in order to promote my writing.
💥What does your writing environment look like?
I write with music. Depending on the scene I'm going for, I have a specific playlist to help me write in the right tone. I can write anywhere as long as I have my phone, but I prefer to write on my laptop on the sofa with a candle lit 🕯️
💥Where or in what do you find inspiration for new stories?
My inspiration for Sypher came from a combination of a dream that started the plot of my novel, and looking for images on Pinterest that suited a different book I was writing. I stumbled upon a piece of art that I liked the look of, and suddenly his whole personality and his role in the novel was clear to me. Usually, my inspiration will strike at random, often in the middle of the night when I should be asleep!
💥Tell us about your current work in progress, or about an upcoming project? Any sneak peek into your latest story =)
My current WIP is Soul Forge. I've been writing this novel since before the pandemic, planning, drafting, and redrafting, until eventually I decided enough was enough, I had to get it out in the world or I'd never be happy with it. It's a high fantasy romance featuring Sypher and a female elf named Elda. It will be a series of 3, potentially 4 books and it contains a lot of twists and turns (also 18+ due to graphic violence and mature themes)
💥Tell us 5 things you like:
Writing, reading, listening to music, playing with my daughter, naps!
💥Do you have a pet peeve or a guilty pleasure, maybe both?
I'm not sure about a guilty pleasure, but my pet peeve is when I see the words 'could of' written instead of 'could have'.
💥What part of the writing process do you find to be the most challenging?
Editing. I'm never satisfied with what I write and that makes editing much harder because it's so tempting to completely rewrite.
💥Do you experience writer's block? If yes, how do you beat it?
Yes, and to beat it, I usually try writing a short story based on a random prompt. It gives me a break from what I'm working on and helps me return to it with fresh eyes.
💥Can you share some of your favorite authors or stories?
Christopher Paolini's Eragon series, Derek Landy's Skulduggery Pleasant series (my all-time favourite since I was a ten-year-old!), Andrzej Sapkowski's The Witcher series, Leia Faiga's stand-alone romance novel 'Class of '95'.
💥 Are you a native English speaker? If not, what are some language obstacles you have faced when writing in English?
I am a native English speaker.
💥Can you share some of your greatest writing achievements or highlights with us?
Placing so well in the Adventure in Action competition is a highlight of mine since it's the first time I've really entered my work into a competition. Also having the courage to put Sypher and the novel he comes from out into the world.
💥If you could experience something for the first time again, what would it be?
Reading the Skulduggery Pleasant series.
💥What's the best advice you ever received?
Do not delete what you wrote. Walk away, take a breath, and come back to it with clear eyes.
💥If you could meet any character from a story, who would you meet and why?
I'd want to meet Skulduggery Pleasant because he's hilarious and meeting a talking elemental skeleton in a suit would be awesome!
