Nowhere to go

Flashback.

Amsterdam, The Netherlands
11:45 p.m.
January 12 1981

Since we know the two people who have Americans hostages, me, Adler, Woods and Mason flew to Amsterdam to reach the first man: Qasim.
I'm in a pub only with Adler and Mason, drinking something before the mission, but without alcohol.
No alcohol before a mission, rule number... I can't remember.
By the way, it's a great start. I wasn't in a pub before go in action since... Honestly, never.
The purple lights makes the atmosphere great, people are talking and playing on videogames, without knowing there are three people here who will save the America. They'll never know, and this is the worst part of my job.
The decorations of the new year are still here.
At my table, Mason is nervously looking around and Adler like usually smoking a cigarette. He's always calm, even in the most dangerous situation. I like that.
He notice I'm looking at him and makes a smirk. His sun glasses covers his eyes, reflecting the neon of the pub, and his scar gives to him an even more mysterious and beautiful look. Adler wears a brown jacket, under a black shirt and black pants. Very elegant.
His mouth opens, making exits some white smoke.
"You sure we can trust the police, Adler?" - asks Mason.
"This guy has done more for less. He'll look the other way." - he tells.
Mason takes the polaroid in black and white of Qasim and burns it with a lighter.
This man is turkey, I wonder how many people of other countries the Russians have hired.
Then, the man we were waiting for shows up: he's quiet old with grey hair.
"Adler." - says with respect the Police Chief.
I guess Adler is pretty famous around everywhere.
"Glad you could join us, Hans."- he replies.
"You remember Mason." - adds Adler, smoking his cigarette. "And she's Bell."
"Nice to meet you, Bell. I heard a lot of voice about you, wich are all good, obviously."- Hans looks at me, surprised. I shake his hand.
"It's nice to meet you too." - I smile.
"We clear to move on the target?" -asks nervously Mason. He clearly has fear.
"Qasim's in his apartment, but he's well protected. I can keep my men out of the area for 15 minutes. I hope you brought an army."- warns Hans, talking especially to Adler.
"We brought enough. Pleasure doing business with you, Hans."- Adler reassures him. He finishes the cigarette, putting it into the ashtray on the table. "Come on. Woods is itching for a dust-up."
Mason puts some money on the table, paying for us.
We head towards the exit on the back of the pub.
A man cut the way to Adler and Adler just pass by him, moving the man with a hand. I have to admit he has got a style even in the movements.
The written "exit" is above the door we need to go through, wich is full of random stickers.
Adler open the panic handle and let me go first. "Miss." - he says with a smirk.
I smile to him and go trough.
Mason thinks Adler would let him pass to but when he tries to do it Adler cut the way.
"Hey!" - jokes Mason.
Adler shrugs his shoulder.
The fresh air of the night hit my face. It's cold but so refreshing after the hot atmosphere inside.
I look around me. We are in an alley with some graffiti on the wall.
Some junkyard and a bicycle are on the floor.
And here's Woods, standing near his black car.
He's not wearing his bandana today.
"We're on the clock, Woods. Let's not keep Qasim waiting." - says Adler.
Woods throw him an army and Adler catch it in the air. Classy.
"Hey, Mason, Bell - party favors are in the trunk."- says Woods to us.
I choose the Milano 821 with talon reflex and foregrip.
When we are all ready Woods closes the trunk and we go ahead trough the many alley.
First Adler, Woods, than Mason and me at the end.
The only lights are coming from the street lamps.
"Dipshit probably thinks he's safe." - observes Woods.
"That piece of trash is a lot of things, but save ain't one of them." - says Adler.
"Do we really need to take this son of a bitch alive, Adler?"
I can notice this "Qasim" has a lot of names.
"Qasim has info we need. Everyone else can take a powder."
After a few steps we reach Qasim's apartment.
"Apartment just up ahead."- Adler informs us.
The building is pretty big, more than the others in town. It has a garden with a gate.
A green light is coming from a glass door and someone from the inside screams "Goal!".
I suppose they don't know about our visit. Better.
Woods and Mason hide behind a side of the gate, me and Adler behind the other.
We are so close that I can smell him. Cigarette and mint.
For a moment our eyes cross.
"Hans only brought us 15 minutes. We need to hit Qasim hard and fast. Let's go." - he says.
Adler open the gate and Mason and Woods go inside the garden.
Before I go inside with them Adler stops me. "Hey, be careful."
"You too."
We reach the glass door.
I can see from the outside four men sitting on a couch. Fortunately they show their back to us.
"Let's help them ring in the New Year. Light em' up, Mason." - wishpers Adler.
Mason starts to shoot.
The glass breaks and the men fall dead on the floor.
But they're not the only there.
Others come from the house trying to shoot us.
Qasim is well protected.
"Go! Go! Go!" - screams Adler.
A man, who I suppose is Qasim run up through the stairs.
"That's Qasim!"- notices Adler.
"Come on, Mason!" - screams Woods.
"Qasim headed up the stairs! We need Qasim alive!"
We go inside the living room.
I hide behind a billiards table and shoot at some of them.
Silence.
I think they finish.
"Qasim can't escape.Find him!" - orders Adler.
I run upstairs followed by my team.
I cross a man and instantly kill him.
There is no rooms anymore but only an open window. I'm sure Qasim passed trough here.
I climb over it.
Another man cut my way but I hit him and use the enemie like a shield when others of them show up.
"Move. Move!"
We cross the roof but Qasim is metres apart from us.
"Let's go. There's Qasim! Move it! We can't let Qasim get away.- screams Adler.
But it's impossible to reach him with all this men.
After a few minutes we clean this roof, but others are in front of us, like an unlimited desert.
Woods tries to shoot at Qasim, who was climbing roof to roof.
"Watch it, Woods, we need him alive!" - warns Adler.
"I'm just softening him up a little!"
We climb on the next roof and we almost reach him but he slide down... guess where? Yes, to another roof.
"He's bolting. Keep on him." - says Adler.
"Jesus this guy is fast!" - notices Woods.
"We just need to be faster than him!" - I scream trough the shoots' chaos.
We slide down on the shingles. I can see the wonderful view of the city. Many little yellow points are scattered here and there and a big tower signs the time: twentyfive past eleven.
It would be so beautiful to stand here and look at that.
"Go, go! Hurry up!"  Adler's words bring me to the reality.
When the war will be over I want to travel here again, not as an agent but as a tourist.
Before land down we shoot the last three men.
One survived but now he's praying for forgiveness and it seems to work, because none of us pays attention to him.
And here's Qasim. There aren't any roof to climb anymore but only the metres apart from here to down. There is only a street to fall on. And die.
"Nowhere left to run, Qasim." - says Adler coming closer to him.
"We can work someth-" - Qasim tries to convince him, but Adler punches his face.
Qasim's hat falls down as he does.
"You're on, Mason." - incites Adler.
Mason takes him for his jacket and puts half of Qasim's body on the roof's corner.
"Wait! Wait- No!" - he prays.
I can hear his turkish accent.
"Tell me where Arash is and you'll live." - interrogates Mason.
"I...I just handle the money...I have no idea where Arash is."
He's clearly lying. I can see the fear and the blood on his face.
"I don't think you understand the situation..."- says Adler throwing down the street, with only one hand, the man we left alive before.
He land on the roof of a car. He's clearly dead.
"You American have rules! You have rules!" - he exclaims.
"You took hostages. The rules changed." - explains Adler.
"You have to tell my friend something or I can't stop from throwing you over." - continues Mason.
"W-wait! He's in Turkey! He's meeting someone at Trabzon Airfield tomorrow night!"
"Who's Arash meeting with?"
"I swear- I swear I don't know! They only communicate with coded messages." -he seems sincere.
Then he shows a paper with Russian letters.
"Since you are the only with the best abilities... take it, Bell." - says Adler.
I reach the Qasim's finger and carefully take the piece of paper.
Qasim looks at me with fearless eyes.
I'm a little sorry for him and he notice that.
After all, we fight for our country and he fights for his.
"You're coming with me." - says Mason.
"That's not-"
Mason punches him. Qasim blackout.
"Alright let's loud him up. He'll find his voice soon enough." - says Adler.
"Lemme know if he needs some help looking for it." - jokes Woods giving to Adler a big white telephone.
"Hudson, we're bringing you a present. He's in Trabzon, Turkey."
