Redlight, greenlight: the exfil
With a loud clangor the metal doors open in two and we finally can breath the pure air again, and not the rarefied one down there.
The sky is the first thing I see, illuminated by big headlights, then the monuments, trees, street lamps and at the end the snow, white as clouds on a sunny day, which turns quickly into red. We're in a garden full of mannequins. These guys never ends in this place.
I keep shooting randomly, hoping to hit as many enemies I can.
The tank's weapon is huge and heavy, and my hands hurts, but I have to keep going or everything is lost. This is the last solution we have to get out of here.
"Bell, watch that fucker coming up on our right!" - exclaims Woods.
I want to ask where, I can't see anything because of the dust in the air, but a big tank comes out of nowhere and hits us.
The impact destabilizes me and I was nearly to fell out.
Something isn't right; I touch the front head and see blood all over my fingers.
"God dammit!" - screams Woods. "It's called urban renewal, you assholes!"
I shot at the tank and it goes out of the road behind us, but another one comes in front of us.
I shot at this too which explodes.
"Fuck that guy."
I smile; Woods never stops talking during battles, not like Adler.
Adler.
Woods turns left and goes straight into a tunnel full of soldiers.
"Keep shooting! I'm looking for an exit!"
"I'm trying! It's not easy when you're on movement."
I hear thousands of bullets hit our tank but none of them hit me.
"Would it have killed them to put in some goddamn street signs?"
Woods' sarcasm never ends.
The tunnel seems infinite and are we going into the right way? There are no enemies here.
Hope this is not a trap.
The tunnel ends and I can see a town, seems like American streets, with many bars on each side.
"There! I can see the exit!" - he exclaims. "Hold on!"
He guides through the cars, parked near the sidewalk, but the tank is too big so we hit them all. Seems an earthquake.
"Focus fire on those APCs!" - he orders. "I'm gonna floor it.
The alarm voice in the speakers is louder than ever. They're probably attracting many of them but we're almost out.
Something explodes above our heads.
"Hell yeah!"
"You seems in a good mood!" - I say.
The tank climbs over a ramp and we hit the road.
Finally I can see the moon again, we're out of this hell.
I turn around and see the huge building become smaller and smaller.
"Well, they'll have a lot to clean."
"Well done, Bell."
The radio interrupts our greetings.
"Woods? Bell? What's your status?" - it's Park.
I wouldn't believe to be so happy to hear her voice again. Or maybe not this much.
We pass two big antennas, no wonder why they have them.
"Gather everyone, Park! The whole team! Hudson has got a shit of explaining to do!" - Woods' voice, which was full of enthusiasm, turns quickly into anger.
I feel her esitate about the answer, then only a yes. Do the others already know this too? I bet they're shocked as much as Woods and me.
We all thought our mission was capture Perseus, and not saving the entire world.
Hudson knew our each step, at least I think, why didn't he stop us if he was trying to hide the truth? Or maybe he didn't expect our success at all, maybe he thought we would fail and return at the base with empty hands, or even not return.
As I can understand, Hudson knew all this shit from the beginning and put us in danger.
Some kind of bombs are in each part of Europe and Perseus took control of them.
He can make them explode in any minute.
Now we're heading to the hideout. It will take a while but when we'll be all there I know it won't be an easy talk. Hudson better have an explanation.
