Redlight, Greenlight: the truth
An armored man comes out from nowhere, he's stronger than the others, I can tell it by his confidence. He's not hiding but just standing in front of me. His helmet, his iron jacket, even his iron boots make me feel in trap.
I just recovered from my mental break down with Woods and now the death is standing toward me.
He knew we were here, of course he did.
The whole base should know.
I wonder if he heared me talking with Woods before.
I can imagine him laughing while cleaning his weapon.
How many of they we have to fight?
The soldier is shooting to Woods, who is upstairs because he still didn't jump down.
As fast as I can I hide behind one of those giant barrel.
"Shit! That guy looks like a handful!" - Woods exclaims.
Out of his ammo, the armored man has to recharge his heavy weapon. So I take the chance to shot on his face.
The bullets hurt him, but not enough, because of his armor.
"He's hurt! Keep the pressure on!"
"Easy to say! You're up there!" - I ironically talk back.
"I'm covering your ass, now get rid of him."
Behind my hiding spot I keep hurting him while he's trying to recharge.
"More coming down the elevator!"
Shit. Not now. How can I beat this guy with other soldiers?
I look around but nothing seems to help me.
I'm loosing hope but suddenly I notice three flammable barrels.
I run and catch his attention.
He follows me, with his noisy airon boots.
"C'mon, a little more closer." - I wishper looking through my viewfinder.
"What are you doing, Bell? In this way you're gonna die!"
"Watch me." - I pull the trigger and the three barrels explode.
Even if his armor was very strong, it wasn't strong enough. In fact the guy jumps in air, landing on the ground and burns alive.
We take a bunch of seconds to kill the normal Reds.
"Impressive." - Woods jumps down and claps his hand. "Very impressive. Now I understand why Adler chooses you."
"I think Adler choosed me randomly." - I say blushing. " And in any case, I just used my brain, not my mussels."
"Nowhere to go but up."
I entered in the iron elevator, followed by Woods. It's very large with grey and light blue walls.
I active the elevator pushing the green button.
As soon as we start riding Park talks to us trough the radio.
"Woods, Bell, I'm picking up on a ton of radio chatter. What's your status?"
Almost dead, I want to say.
Easy to talk for her, when she's hiding somewhere and not fighting by our side.
I wonder if she will pick us up at the end of the fight with Adler and... Wait, is she with Adler right now?!
Goddamnit! I bet she didn't spoke to us all those time because they are together, doing only God know what.
I knew it, Adler was using me like a stupid toy, I'm nothing for him but a doll. Does he think like this about Park too? I'm so stupid, I shouldn't fall for him, I-
"Bell?" - Woods calls me.
"W-What?" - I come back to the reality.
"Are you alright?"
Only now I notice how sweat my face is, how brow are my eyebrows and how clenched my fists are.
"Oh- It's okay. Just... thoughts."
I try to stay calm.
"Focus, Bell. We're almost in the heart of the structure."
"So what's your status?" - Park repeats.
I would be better without you.
"We got caught up in sine kind of live fire drill." - Woods replies. "Place is crawling with Reds. We're still looking for intel."
"Bloody hell. I'm putting Mason and Adler on standby for exact."
Adler.
My heart skips a beat.
He's not with her, he's waiting for us. For me.
Maybe I was overthinking as usual but... Why did I send me here with Woods without him?
There's something, I know it.
"She sounds mad. Does she sounds mad?" - Woods asks.
"Why are you asking me this?" - I'm confused.
"I don't know but, trust me I know when someone is pisses off, and now she is." - he smiles cleverly.
"I still don't get that."
The elevator's doors open and I can see elaborate constructions with stand out in the dark of the night with the cold wind.
"Of course you don't."
There's something strange on his smile but I don't have time to think about that because another patrol approaches us.
"Alert! We need backup!" - a Soviet soldiers screams.
They're hiding inside a cabin with soviet flags and statues.
They're only two so we kill them easily.
"Looks like their command center. C'mon." - Woods goes ahead in the next room.
We're so close...
"Jackpot! Computer center!" - I hear his voice.
I come to see what he has found.
A big room appears in front of me: full of computers, screens, monitors and many colorful buttons.
The walls are covered by CDs and floppy disk, I would like to collect them all and decrypt them but we haven't enough time.
"I know what you're thinking about Bell, but the most important Intel is right here." - he shows me a little computer at the center of the room. "Let's see what the Reds are really up to..."
I sit at the chair in front of the little screen.
"Bell, hop ok that terminal. Start poking around.
The screen has a yellow Soviet mark and the written "KGB".
I press "enter".
Suddenly the terminal starts to talk.
"Welcome to the Soviet People's Warfare Analysis Archive..."
Then three options appear on the screen: 1. Tactical Urban Combat Statistics, 2. KGB Updates, 3. Operation Greenlight.
"This shit is interesting..."
Woods can't see what I'm looking at because he's checking the door.
"Let's try with the first..."
I choose the first option.
"Tactical Urban Combat Statics... Restricted access..." - says the computer with a robotic voice.
"Things for kids. What else?"
So I choose the second option.
"KGB Updates... Restricted access..." - says the computer again.
"Goddammit!" - Woods exclaims. " Try with something else."
"The last option..." - I reply and press the button.
"Operation Greenlight...Restricted access..."
I punch the table.
"What the fuck is Operation Greenlight?" - Woods comes near to me. "Bell, can you hack into that?"
"Of course but- I don't know how long will it take."
"Just do it! I'll cover you."
I sigh and start to hack this terminal.
We didn't come here for nothing, that's sure.
But at what cost?
I don't need another patrol of Reds, or another armored soldier.
"It says we need a password." - I cut it off.
"Of course there's a password."
"It will take too long to hack that thing."
"Look around. These Reds ain't that smart. Maybe there's something on the desk."- suggests Woods.
Those words hurt me in the deep, and I don't know why. I'm not part of them.
I try with a word written on a post it but nothing to do.
I try with a Russian word on a poster on the wall, still nothing.
The last resource is "SOCHI", written on a post card. If I remember will, Sochi means Olympic games.
The terminal makes a sound and accepts the password.
"This wasn't hard."
"Nice." - complements Woods.
A project of something appears on the screen, then three choices: 1. Audio Log 01, 2. Audio Log 02, 3. Print Project Greenlight.
I press the first option.
Like a thunder hits a three and burns it, Hudson voice hits our hearts.
None of us expected this.
"We confirmed it. The nuke smuggled out of Berlin is a Greenlight asset. It's one of ours."
"If that gets out..." - this is Black's voice.
"No one will know." - Hudson reassures him. " Not even Adler's team. The stakes are too high."
"High is an understatement. We're talking about an Americam nuke hidden beneath Berlin."
I'm in shock that I can't make a sound.
"Is that means?..." - I ask to Woods.
He's surprised like me, I can see his eyes wide open.
"Go on."
I press the second file audio and again we hear Black and Hudson's voice.
"I want to make sure you're committed, Hudson..."
"They play has been called. The ball is in motion."
"Well, if the asset leans the truth..."
"You're worried about truth now?" - Hudson asks angrily.
"I'm concerned about control... of the asset."
"We can't control the asset, we end the asset. Game over."
We heard enough if this shit.
I choose the last option; print the project Greenlight.
"I'm grabbing a copy."
Woods walks to the printer with heavy steps.
His boots express exactly how angry he is.
He pull out the piece of paper.
"This doesn't make any sense." - Woods reads it. "Perseus infiltrated a CIA nuke program codenamed Operation Greenlight."
He reads the last line.
"Run by Hudson!"
"Woods... They lied to us." - my brain barely process all these informations. "We thought that we have an advantage on him but- at the end it's Perseus who has an advantage on us."
Woods is looking at me with glowing eyes.
"They took control of a nuke." - I end the conversation.
He balls up the project and kicks the printer as hard as he can.
"The stolen nuke is American! And Hudson fucking knew!"
Suddenly the lights of the central room turn off.
"Attention! Attention! Intruders in the structure!"
