The start of everything
Flashback
Trabzon Airfield, Turkey
18 hours later
Adler, Woods, Mason and I flew as soon as we could in Turkey, in the airport Qasim told us about: Trabzon Airfield.
We spend almost 18 hours to go there, but fortunately we're in time.
We arrived like four hours ago and we eliminated the guards all around the airport, then we take our position in the middle of a little wood.
Nobody announced the alarm yet.
If we're lucky we will catch Arash without any snipers around.
So we spent the time attending the signal from Hudson, joking and resting before the mission.
We're all sit on the ground.
"Well, Woods, since we are actually in a wood-" - Adler starts making fun of him, but in a friendly way.
"Oh no, Adler, don't. There are already too many people who make fun of my surname." -he laughs.
"Just saying, just saying." - he raises both arms, in sign of apology.
This is why I will never change this team with another: even if we all know that we can die at any moment we still joke and take the life in a happy way.
It's starts to getting dark and cold.
We all know that we clearly can't make a bonfire.
"Well, it can't be worst right?" - I say.
"I like your optimism, Bell." - Adler smiles.
He's wearing his glasses, as usual.
I smile back.
I still don't understand why I'm seeing him in this way. I mean, I know him for a long time, why this is happening now?
When he looks at me I have this strange feeling in my stomach, like a million of butterfly flying around, I always want to make a good impression and I don't know why but I want to be... more near to him.
I shake my head. No. I have to be professional. At least for now, when the world needs us.
Suddenly I hear a drop falling on my nose, then another on my finger.
"Oh-oh, it's raining guys." - says Mason.
We take shelter under the roof of an abandoned house right a few steps from us.
I sit again and try to focus on the mission but my mind only focus on one thing: Adler.
I sigh and close my eyes, leaning my back on the wall.
I have to deal with this strange feeling and find out what it is.
Does he feels that way too? Maybe it's just a strong friendship, yeah, it's have to be that.
After five minutes I'm trembling from the cold.
Adler notices that and comes near to me.
"Hey, are you alright?"
I raise my head and look at him.
My heart starts to beat so fast. This is an heart attack?! I hope no.
The cold blows away from my skin, replaced by the hot.
I can literally feel my body burning.
"No... I mean yeah... I'm... I'm fine..."- I whisper looking in his eyes, wich I can see through the glasses. Those blue eyes.
Fuck, what am I doing?
"Don't lie to me, Bell. I saw you trembling." - he sits next to me.
I wanted to avoid awkward conversations like this.
"I'm cold. It's nothing, Adler." - I try to not look at him.
He gently takes my face with his hand.
Now we're looking at each other.
"Here. Take my jacket." - Adler covers my shoulders with it.
"Oh... Thank you, but-"
"You can repay the debt later." - he winks at me.
What does he mean?
Thank you Adler, after that I feel like in a sauna.
We keep walking for a while and find some men. Fortunately they didn't see us so Mason kills the first from the behind and Adler takes down the another who is in a truck.
"Airfield is just up ahead... Let's go find this shithead." - says Woods.
"Priority is to ID Arash before things go hot." - explains Adler.
A plane flies in the dark sky.
The only light is coming from the moon and... the lights of the airport.
The road finishes and we quietly hide behind a big rock and tall grass.
In front of us there are a lot of patrols and a big plane: the one Arash is going to take.
"Mason, check it out." - says Adler.
Mason uses his binoculars to look around.
Some men are just standing, clearly waiting for Arash, and the other loading the plain with some big and heavy goods. The back of the plain is open: I can clearly see the seats, all red like fire.
"Any signal of Arash?"- asks Adler.
Mason shows to him a man.
"That's not him."
Mason tries with another.
"Nope."
"Incoming truck. Left side." - exclaims Woods.
We turn on the left and see it driving along the airport.
"Get the eyes on it, Mason." -says Adler. "Trash might be in the truck."
The truck stops behind the plane and a person wearing a jacket with a tiger on the back and a pair of yellow pants comes out.
"I can't make out his face yet." - says Woods.
The man close the truck's door and then tells something to the people inside. I can't clearly hear it but it sounds like :" I don't wanna competition."
If I'm not wrong there are... One, two... Three people inside.
And... Arash kill them all with few shots!
Why he just killed them?! I mean, it's not a big deal for us but... Why?
Adler puts a hand on my shoulders to protect me, even if I wasn't the Arash's target.
I smile a bit to him and he realizes what he has done. Adler immeadly puts back his hand with an embarrassed smile.
"The fuck! He just iced everyone in the truck!" - exclaims Woods. "That's gotta be Arash."
"Hold fire. We need a positive ID." - repeats Adler, like nothing happened.
Arash goes ahead to the open door of the plane and climb up.
He turns around to talk with somebody and we all can see clearly his face.
He seems like an hippie with those glasses when Adler is so cool in them...
Here we are, me again thinking about Adler.
Stop Bell, we've got a job to do, I repeat to myself.
"That's our man, take him out." - says Adler.
Mason loads his sniper rifle and shoots.
The time seems infinite before the bullet hits the head of...
a man in front of Arash.
Fuck!
Everyone in the airport see us and scream word we can't understand.
"Shit, we missed him! We can't let him go away!"- cries Woods.
Bullets flies over my head and Adler pushes me down and covers me.
I start to shoot back with my team and we move on.
"Get Arash!" - screams Woods.
The spotlight is on us.
"We have to stop that plane!" - screams Adler under the gun's shots.
But what we gonna do? This is so messed up.
We continue to shoot over and over but the plane will takes off in any minute.
Suddenly we notice a truck, left without any man inside.
This is our chance.
"Quick, before the plane takes off!" - says Woods. "Get to that truck!"
I try to go ahead but there are too many people.
He reach the truck and covers ours back so we can climb on.
"Hurry! Let's go! Move in!" - he encourages me.
I kill some men and run to the truck.
"Hop in!"
I climb behind.
Woods takes the driver's seat.
"Come on! Get in!"
Adler seats next to Woods and Mason reaches me behind.
I knock at the window to let them know we're on.
"Go! Go!" - says Adler to Woods.
He immedly starts to chase the plane wich is already going ahead on the runway.
Shit.
To make matters worse some trucks are following us, trying to take down my team.
Mason and I stand up and shoot at their tires.
"Truck to the left!" - Adler advises me.
He seriously worries about me.
I shoot at the motor and the truck goes on fire.
"Look right!"
I smile to Adler and continue my work.
We already take five of this trucks out of the way but more and more are coming.
And the plane is getting further from us.
"Goddamn it! They're getting away!" - screams Woods.
"We're not done yet. Mason, deploy the RC." - says Adler calmly.
Mason uses his RC- XD.
"On the ground!" - he advises us.
It's seems like a remote-controlled car but it's not a toy.
He carefully guides the RC trough the truck and avoids them.
"Take out the landing gear! Get under the plane!"- says Adler.
With his abilities Mason guides the little car between the trucks' tires.
He reaches the bottom of the plane and... denotes.
A bright light blinds me for some seconds.
The plane is on fire.
"Yes! We did it!" - I exclaim.
But my happiness doesn't last for long: enemy's trucks crushes into the plane and into us.
The plane stops on the runway and explodes.
Fortunately Woods avoids the disaster but we overturn.
I fall from the behind and so does Adler.
I try to look if he's okay but then a plane's wing
is falling on my body.
I put a hand in front of me, like it would save my life, sure.
I'm so stupid, I think closing my eyes.
If only I confessed what I feel for you, Adler, maybe this death wouldn't be so useless.
