Argument
A/N: It only took 46 chapters but a chapter dedicated to the side characters (+Jungkook making a quirky appearance at the beginning + Jimin being best boy at the end). Enjoy learning more about Baekhyun, Jin, Seulgi, Yoongi, and Taehyung! (Yes I know Hoseok is technically a side character but he'll be getting a lot of attention in the future, so I'm mostly focusing on Baekhyun, Jin, Seulgi, Tae, and grandpa here).
For the next like ten chapters this story will be more like a drama, so enjoy the change of pace. We'll be back to the heavy sci fi and action soon.
~The Next Day || 10:13~
Jungkook sits next to Yoongi as he takes his meds, raising a shaky hand to his lips and placing the pills in his mouth. Jungkook frowns, watching as the man quickly downs some water and the pills with it. "How is it?" Jungkook asks, and Yoongi shakes his head.
"Horrible. The enhancements are the only thing keeping me going." Jungkook doesn't reply, he simply looks down at the ground.
Jungkook wanted to check on Yoongi. he came up to his apartment about ten minutes ago to pop in and say hi, but... he almost felt the need to stay. He's not sure if he's a good people reader or if his new intelligence enhancements kicked in, but he got the sense that Yoongi was lonely. So, here he is, sitting on Yoongi's bed and not speaking. They haven't spoken much, just the basics like 'how are you' and 'what do you want to do today'. They go back out on the field at 11, searching for more monsters. Kai supplied them with these motion tracker spikes they're supposed to set up outside the city to make sure none of those things get too close.
"Do you think we're safe here?" Yoongi whisper-asks.
Jungkook looks over at him with a frown. "I'd like to think so. When I was here with Y/N we never ran into any problems. Ever."
"I wouldn't mess with you," Yoongi says, a hint of amusement in his tone. Jungkook can't help but be surprised at that. Since when does Yoongi have emotion? Jungkook remembers when he was emotionless. Did the experimenting they did on Yoongi impact that...?
"That was before I had enhancements though," Jungkook says.
Yoongi looks down at Jungkook's stomach. "I still wouldn't mess with you." Jungkook gulps. He immediately knows Yoongi is referring to Taehyung lifting up his shirt to expose his abs. He swallows the memory and shakes his head, forcing himself to relax.
"Do you ever think about removing them?" Jungkook asks.
Yoongi glances over, surprise evident in his expression. "You can do that?"
"No, but if you could, would you?"
"Honestly, I wouldn't."
"Why not?" Jungkook asks.
"I've had them for most of my life, and they don't even physically show. I'm one of the lucky ones, I guess. Being smarter than everyone else has its perks too." Jungkook softly smiles, nodding. "Would you?" Yoongi asks back.
Jungkook bites his lower lip, looking down. Would he? "I'm not sure. On one hand, they're really helpful for these kinds of missions. On the other hand, they hurt like hell, not to mention I always feel like a freak. Even yesterday, at laser tag. I felt like I was cheating with my speed, but I can't help it, you know?"
He nods in understanding, resting a hand on the younger boy's shoulder. "If it makes you feel any better, you at least have someone to talk to if you ever need to."
Jungkook's almost thrown into third degree shock at that. Why is Yoongi being so... nice? "Are you sure you're Min Yoongi? Did an alien take you over or something?"
He chuckles, shaking his head. "As far as I know, I'm still me. I'm serious though. Jimin may be my friend, and Y/N may be yours, and Taehyung, I have no idea what's going on between you and him I'm not going to lie..." He trails off as Jungkook flusters. What are he and Tae? Are they just friends? Best friends? Brothers? Maybe something more? He pushes his thoughts aside, instead deciding to listen to Yoongi. "No matter how close we are to those people, they'll never... get it." Yoongi meets Jungkook's eyes, softly sighing. "But we do. You understand what it's like to be like this. In constant physical pain, feeling like you don't fit in, having drugs course throughout your veins just by you getting excited." Jungkook agrees. Yoongi's one hundred percent right. Despite the closeness he has with Y/N, she'll never understand. It's not her fault, but sometimes he needs someone who knows exactly what he's going through.
Jungkook rests his hand on top of Yoongi's, giving the man a smile. "You're right. We're different. Maybe that's good, maybe that's bad, but I'm glad I have someone to talk to. And the same goes to you. If you ever need me... I'm here."
Yoongi nods his thanks. "Being with this crew has taught me so much about relationships. Seeing Jimin break down over Y/N? That broke my heart. I'm not sure why, but it did." Jungkook quietly listens, imagining poor Jimin, thinking his love was dead. If Jungkook were in that situation, whether it be Y/N or Tae, he's not sure how he'd react.
"He was so determined the entire time to save Ganymede, almost as if he wanted to do it all on his own. Part of me thinks he didn't want to live anymore." Jungkook goes still at that. "Of course, she's back now, and he's okay but... is it bad that I want to feel something like that?"
"Not at all. Our relationships with other people define who we are. Sometimes one person can pull us back, even in the darkest of times," Jungkook says.
Yoongi shyly looks up. "Like Tae?"
"I-I was thinking more Y/N, since she brought me back when I was injected, but sure, Tae works too. You're not dropping this, are you?"
Yoongi chuckles, shaking him off. "Never."
"Looks like Y/N has competition for biggest Cupid in the group."
Yoongi softly smiles. Jungkook's heart melts at the sight. Seeing Yoongi smile? There's something about it that strangely comforts the Executive. "Seriously Jungkook, it's so obvious that there's something going on there. Even more obvious than Jimin and Y/N."
"I-I have no idea what you're talking abo-"
"Jungkook."
"Yes?" Yoongi sighs, shaking his head with a gummy smile.
"Just date him. You deserve it."
~14:46~
Jin stands across from Seulgi, watching as she lines up her shot. "Don't mess up," he says, but she only gives him a small look in response. She hits the puck. Jin easily catches it. "Nice try."
"Alright, bring it Seokjin. Fast paced," she says. He only smirks before hitting the puck back. They go back and forth on the air hockey machine, trying their hardest to score a goal, but they're evenly matched.
"This is the most intense battle I've ever seen," Baekhyun replies. Taehyung nods in agreement. However, Jin scores his last goal and cheers.
"I beat the Kang Seulgi. My day just keeps getting better," Jin says, stretching his arms.
"I didn't take Jin for the competitive type," Yoongi mutters, and the other three nod in agreement.
"I can be," Jin says with a shrug, then motions to the machine. "Whoever beats me wins a date with me."
Baekhyun immediately steps forward. "I'll take one for the team." Jin snickers as he inserts a quarter. Jin's slightly surprised Ganymede uses coins and coin slots. That was never something used on Sturgeon. It was all digital money, no physical. Apparently Earth, Mars, and Ganymede are the last places with physical currency still in place.
"Alright, let's do it," Jin says as the machine hums to life, the air turning on.
Baekhyun grabs the puck and places it on the table. "My aim was impeccable when I shot down the battleship, do you really think you can beat me now?"
Jin chuckles. "There's a difference between blasters and air hockey pucks." Baekhyun gives him a cheeky smile before launching the puck into action, but Jin deflects it right back at him.
"Speaking of battleships, Baekhyun you're a hero," Seulgi says.
Baekhyun stops the puck. "You think so?"
"Know so. Jimin needs to promote you already."
Taehyung shrugs. "Looks like Jimin's been slacking on those promotions recently."
"I wouldn't say so. He finally promoted Hobi to Gold," Seulgi says.
Jin stops dead in his tracks, then looks over at her. "He got promoted?!" Baekhyun takes Jin's distraction and hits the puck right into his goal. "Hey! No fair!" Jin says with a whine, grabbing the puck, "let me get one!"
"Eyes on the game, not Seulgi." Jin follows his instructions, eyeing the game and preparing to attack Baekhyun's side.
"Yeah, he got promoted during the whole battle thing. He just told me about it," Seulgi says, snickering but ignoring the bickering between Baekhyun and Jin.
"He hasn't told anyone else it seems," Taehyung says with a small pout.
"Well, I am the girlfriend," Seulgi teases, ruffling Taehyung's hair.
"Not the hair," he says, whining like Jin did and giving her a nudge.
"You snooze you lose Tae," she replies, watching the game closely.
Jin mentally laughs at their interaction before scoring a point on Baekhyun, who groans. "Six more to go."
"Don't get your hopes up, game's still young," Baekhyun replies, placing the puck back on the table and whacking it.
Jin messes up and it lands in his goal. Jin stares with wide eyes. He blinks once, then grabs the puck and practically slams it on the table, going rapid fire. Baekhyun keeps up, which surprises Jin, but at the same time he doesn't let himself get distracted. "Should we make bets?" Seulgi asks.
"Oh hell yeah, ten bucks on Baekhyun," Taehyung says.
"Alright, I'll go ten bucks on Jin," Seulgi replies. "Yoongi?" Seulgi asks, and he looks between the two fighting men.
"Twenty on Baekhyun."
Jin scoffs. "What do you mean twenty?!"
Baekhyun easily scores another goal due to Jin's distraction. Yoongi points to Jin. "That's what I mean."
"Too late to change sides?" Seulgi asks.
"Yep," Taehyung says with amusement, letting his head rest on Seulgi's shoulder.
"You're too tall for me, go to Yoongi."
Taehyung looks over at Yoongi, who gives the boy a death glare. Taehyung gulps. "Nope, I think I'll stick with you."
Jin scores another, doing a small cheer as the game starts to countdown. They only have a minute left. Jin needs to hurry if he's going to win. "Part of me doesn't want to win. I don't want to date you, no offense," Baekhyun says.
"No one's ever resisted World Wide Handsome before," Jin mutters back in disbelief, deflecting the incoming puck.
"3 and 2, this is certainly interesting," Yoongi says, leaning against the vending machine and watching in amazement.
"If Jungkook were here, he'd beat all of us," Taehyung replies, which has Seulgi laughing.
"Cause you're totally not biased."
"What's that supposed to mean?" Taehyung asks with a pout.
"You're totally digging that man."
"No I'm not!"
"You literally lifted up his shirt just to see his abs," Yoongi says in a bored tone.
"Wait - he did what?" Jin yelps, still managing to keep up with Baekhyun's relentless attacks. He scores another goal and cheers. "Take that!" Baekhyun grits his teeth, placing the puck on the table. 3-3.
"Jungkook asked us to rate him on a scale of 1-10. I said 3," Yoongi says.
"Yoons, I respect you a lot, but that man is not a 3," Baekhyun says, shaking his head as he blocks Jin's attack.
"I have to agree with that and I have a boyfriend," Seulgi says, softly smiling as she does.
"Uh oh, someone's in love," Jin says in a teasing tone, stopping the puck to line up a good shot. He hits it, and it's a success. He smiles: 4-3. Thirty seconds left.
"I'm not in love! Taehyung is!"
"No I'm not!" he replies, but Yoongi shakes him off.
"You and Jungkook are so into each other I'm amazed. It's just as bad as Jimin and Y/N if not worse." Seulgi bites back a response, looking away. "What?" Yoongi asks.
"Now you have to tell us," Jin says, then groans in frustration as Baekhyun scores. 4-4. Fifteen seconds. Whoever scores next wins.
"U-Uh look, it's down to the wire, let's see what happens," Seulgi says, trying to distract them. They accept the distraction for now, turning their undivided attention to the air hockey machine.
"Scared, Baekhyun?" Jin asks, lining up his shot.
"Hit me." Ten seconds. He whacks it, but Baekhyun stops it. Eight seconds. He hits it back, and it goes back and forth, back and forth. Jin's sweating, blocking so hard his fingers cramp up. Baekhyun bounces it off the walls, but Jin predicts it and does the same motion. Five seconds. Jin pants, trying desperately, but Baekhyun unexpectedly does a straight shot, and it slips into Jin's goal.
"Dammit!" he says, the last two seconds ticking away. 5-4. Looks like Baekhyun won. Jin sighs, resting his hands on the sides of the machine.
"Good game," Baekhyun says, and Jin nods.
"Good game, you're more skilled than I thought." Baekhyun salutes before joining the others.
"Come on, let's go get some food. Seulgi, you owe me ten," Taehyung says.
"Yeah yeah, and I owe grandpa twenty. Send me your bills later."
"Oh I will," Yoongi teases. Jin's slightly shocked that Yoongi actually made a joke, but doesn't question it as the others walk away.
He follows, appreciating the large arcade. It was right next door to their apartments, so why not take a journey and see what the fuss is about? Jin's never been to an arcade before. Growing up on a space station had that affect on him. He hasn't seen a lot of fun activities to be honest. He's enjoying it very much, but he took to air hockey easily. He beat Taehyung as soon as they arrived, but Taehyung beat everyone at all the actual games.
"Did everyone set up their spike today?" Seulgi asks. Ah, classic Seulgi. She may be fun to be around, but sometimes she does ask questions in a professional manner. For a moment, Jin almost confuses her for the Executive Officer, then he remembers Jungkook.
"I did," Jin says. They went in teams of two again, Jin going with Baekhyun while Yoongi stayed behind. Everyone hums to agree with Jin.
"I believe we all did. I assume no one got distracted?" Baekhyun asks, waggling his eyebrows at Seulgi.
She rolls her eyes but smiles. "Hoseok and I set ours up as fast as possible."
"So, want to talk about why you got red when we talked about Jimin and Y/N?" Jin asks, and Seulgi stutters.
"L-Let's not talk about it."
"Oh my God did you walk in on them having sex?" Taehyung asks with a small gasp.
"They were just making out," Seulgi replies, and everyone freezes. She does too, then she slaps a hand over her mouth. "You heard nothing," she says, although it's muffled by her hand.
"I have a theory," Baekhyun says, and everyone turns their attention to him. "I believe that she walked in on them making out because her and Hoseok were trying to find a place to make out."
"N-Not true."
"Oh honey," Jin starts, and she fumes.
"Okay, so maybe it's true! We walked in on them and it was uh... interesting."
"How long did it take you to notice them?" Yoongi asks, a knowing look on his face.
"We noticed them right away!" she argues. They can see right through her. "O-Okay so maybe it took us a minute but that's not the point!"
"Oh my God, did you guys have like a double make-out session?" Taehyung asks, eyes lighting up.
Seulgi suddenly smirks, and it's Taehyung's turn to go red. "Yeah actually, in the stairwell. And you know what we said?" Taehyung gulps. "'Now all we need is Jungkook and Tae to join us'." He looks down at his feet as the crew laughs, shaking their heads in disbelief.
"I'm honestly not even surprised," Baekhyun says, amusement in his eyes.
Jin pats the Pilot on the shoulder. "Me neither."
"You know what would be really funny?" Seulgi asks. Jin fears what she has to say. The group hums. "If Jungkook made a move on Y/N."
Taehyung goes still. "What?"
"Why would that be funny?" Baekhyun asks, raising a brow.
"Because Jungkook would be dead. Jimin may be short, but my guess is that jealously kills. Short rage exists."
Taehyung balls his hands into fists at his sides. "I don't think that would be funny."
Jin picks up on Taehyung's mood and smirks. "Why not Tae Tae?" he asks.
"Because... it just... wouldn't be. At all."
"I think it would be hilarious to watch Jimin kick Jungkook's ass," Jin says.
"The only one allowed to kick Jungkook's ass is me."
"Oh so you own Jungkook now? Interesting," Baekhyun says, joining in on the relentless teasing.
"Food?" Taehyung asks.
"Sure," Seulgi replies, offering him an escape from his embarrassment. "Speaking of Jimin, how we feeling?" Seulgi asks, looking around at every member's face.
"Feeling? What?" Yoongi asks in confusion.
"Yeah, do we think he's doing a good job or...?"
"I think so," Jin says, and it's true. So far Jimin has kept them safe for the most part. Despite all the shit they've been through, they've somehow only lost one person, and that was a while ago too. Jin genuinely believes Jimin is a good Captain.
"Me too," Taehyung replies, "then again I may be biased, he did take me in."
"Me three," Yoongi mutters, nodding in agreement to what Taehyung said.
"Baekhyun?" Seulgi asks, which causes the man to go stiff.
"I think he's alright."
"Alright?" Jin asks, furrowing his brows.
"I don't know, I guess part of me is tired of the action. It's not really his fault that we're in the middle of this, but if I were him, I'd take us as far away from the war as possible."
Seulgi gives him a look of sympathy. "I get it, it's not exactly easy being in the middle of a war."
"Not exactly easy? We've had a lot of consequences because of it," he replies.
Jin can tell this is about to get awkward. Seulgi looks around at the three members who aren't from the original crew. "I'd say we've had a lot more positive things than negative."
"What about Namjoon?" Baekhyun challenges.
She sighs. "Let's not talk about him."
"Why not? Why does no one seem to want to talk about him anymore?"
"Baekhyun-"
"He died to protect us, and the first thing we do is go right back into the gunfire. We could have been killed."
"So that's why you disagree with Jimin's leadership? Because of Namjoon?" Yoongi asks lowly, and everyone looks at him in shock, even Baekhyun.
"I disagree because I value my life. I still have a lot more to lose, no offense to everyone here, but other than our fellow crewmates, what do you have to lose?" Baekhyun asks, looking between the four of them. "Y/N hates her family, Jungkook has no where other than the crew, Jimin has his brother but that's really it, and I don't even know what's going on with Hoseok." He pauses for a moment, then motions to the ones gathered in the room, "Jin hates his home station so much that he left, Seulgi's scared of Earth and doesn't want to go back, Taehyung has no home other than this one, and Yoongi... I can't even begin to imagine the horrors you've seen on Kepler. Everyone here has no where to go. No original home or family."
"I have a family that still cares about me," Seulgi replies, her voice rasping.
"Let's all calm down-" Taehyung tries, but Baekhyun interrupts him.
"Then why are you putting yourself in harms way?"
"Because I'm not scared! Look at Ganymede, it would've been destroyed without us. Without you. I didn't believe in fate until this journey started. Maybe it was fate that our original five person crew was away from the Hep when it got destroyed. Maybe it was fate that we met Y/N, Jin, Yoongi, Taehyung, and Jungkook. Maybe being in this war is fate since clearly we're the only ones with our heads screwed on right."
"What about Y/N? She got shot, and Yoongi? Gunshots don't just go away. There's nerve damage and constant threats of the wounds reopening. What about the riots in the solar system? Whether the war was going to happen or not, we caused it. Jimin and Namjoon caused it. Jimin cares fiercely about others, but not us apparently."
"Excuse me?" Seulgi asks. Jimin cares fiercely for the crew, even Jin knows that.
"You weren't with him on Ganymede," Yoongi says.
Baekhyun stares at him with a raised brow. "What's that supposed to mean?"
"Y/N's father found us, and he told us that Y/N died." He goes quiet, and the group gazes at him in shock. "Jimin was in the most pain I've ever seen anyone in. I held him while he screamed and cried, begging for her to come back. He pleaded for it to be him instead of her, and in that moment, I thought he wanted to die just to see her again." Everyone stays dead silent, the only sound being the music from the other machines and the faint chatter from other guests. "Despite all of that: he kept moving. He got up and fought. Not for himself, not for Ganymede... but for you. Do you want to know what he said when I asked him if he would be okay?" They nod. "'I have a crew relying on me. Every single one of them are trusting me with their lives. I make those decisions now, I can lead them to their deaths'. He said that to me and promised he would be okay. Not for anyone but you, because he loves this crew enough to keep pushing forward."
Yoongi turns to Baekhyun, who stands there with tears in his eyes. "So don't you dare even think that Jimin doesn't care about this crew. He cares about this crew more than he cares about himself." Yoongi storms away, and Baekhyun watches him go.
"Shit," he whispers, a single tear rolling down his cheek. Jin isn't sure how to feel. On one hand, Baekhyun has a point about being in the middle of a war, on the other, Jimin's trying his hardest, and no one has really objected him yet. How is he supposed to know how they feel if they don't tell him? He's got enough on his plate, not to mention he isn't a mind reader. So, Jin speaks.
"Baekhyun if you really feel that way," he says, meeting the man's eyes, "then tell him." Baekhyun doesn't reply, he simply angrily wipes away one of his tears and walks in the other direction, locating the exit and pushing through it.
"Well, that just happened," Seulgi whispers. "Who knew one question would lead to that."
"Was that our first fight?" Jin asks, bewildered.
Seulgi freezes up for a moment before answering. "Yeah... yeah, I think it was."
"Well now since it's the three of us, should we head back?" Taehyung asks, frowning. Jin and Seulgi somberly nod. Jin's still conflicted. Baekhyun did have a point, they did cause all this. They say that it was going to happen anyway, but now they'll never know.
"I should probably go find Y/N and Jimin, tell them what happened," Seulgi mumbles.
Jin nods. "Good luck."
"I'll find Jungkook," Taehyung replies. You know they're in a bad mood when no one even teases Tae.
"Jesus, I can't imagine that pain," Seulgi mutters, "if I was told Hoseok died... I don't know how I'd move on."
"Even more reason to respect Jimin then," Jin quietly says, which Seulgi and Taehyung nod to. Taehyung sighs as they exit the building, turning down the sidewalk. No one speaks, but how can they? After everything that just happened, they need time. A lot of it...
~15:02~
Seulgi walks towards the elevators, then sees how packed it is and decides to take the stairs. She sighs to herself, the memory of her and Hoseok and Jimin and Y/N making out in the stairwell not even making her happy. She squeezes her way through the people, then opens the door and enters the room. The rusty smell hits her nose and she gags, but doesn't verbally complain. Not like there's anyone to verbally complain to. So, she starts forward instead.
Y/N's on the sixth floor, so that's where she's heading. She needs to tell her everything, she can't hold it back anymore. The fight left Seulgi devastated. She feels guilty: she's the one that caused it. Sometimes some questions are better left unexplored. She should've kept her mouth shut. Seulgi personally thinks Jimin is doing a great job, and after hearing Yoongi's story, she respects him even more. She wasn't kidding: if she was told Hoseok died, she's not sure if she would have the strength to move on. But Jimin did. For the crew. Seulgi always respected Jimin for his courage and caring nature, but she sees something else in him now. She can't quite put her finger on it, but it's there. It's like she sees him in a new light, it's more than respect now. Maybe he's finally becoming family to her.
She traverses up the stairs, lost in her thoughts as her fingers trace over the railings. She walks silently, hearing no one else around. First floor... then the second... then the third... Her legs are tired at this point. Why couldn't Y/N's apartment be on the second floor? That would make life so much easier. She passes the fourth, standing on the intersection between stairwells. She keeps her eyes on the ground, not even noticing the figure approaching her.
She bumps into them, and she staggers back with a gasp. "I-I'm so sorry I didn't see you th... Jimin?"
The Captain gives her a small smile. "Hey Seulgi." The fight comes rushing back to her, and her emotions start to overpower her. She's not entirely sure what to say, so she just stands there, shocked. Normally she performs well under pressure, but right now, looking into Jimin's eyes? She's at a loss for words. "Everything okay?"
Seulgi can't help but crack under his gaze. He's the Captain, he deserves to know. "We were out at the arcade..." she says, trailing off and looking down. She isn't sure where to go, but Jimin changes that. He walks forward, placing his hand on her shoulder. She looks up in shock.
"Hey, you can always talk to me. I'm more than just your Captain, Seul... I'm your friend," he says softly. Seul somehow manages to smile at his words, nodding. She wants to save the emotional bits for Y/N, but she can at least tell him what's going on.
"Jin, Baekhyun, Yoongi, Taehyung, and I were at the arcade next door but... we had a fight."
He furrows his brows, slowly letting his hand fall from her shoulder. "A fight?" She can see the pain in his eyes, and it makes her frown again. She never wants to see him upset. "What was it about?"
She bites her lower lip, not sure what to say. "It..." she starts, then sighs. Seulgi takes a deep breath. "It was about you."
His eyes widen. He even takes a step back. "Me?" he asks so softly she's not sure if she heard him. He gulps. "Wh... what about me?"
His soft tone breaks her heart, but she knows she has to keep talking. "It was between Baekhyun and Yoongi. When I asked how everyone thought you were doing, Baekhyun didn't really agree with the rest of us." Jimin slowly nods, trying to hide the pain in his eyes. He's trying so hard to be good enough, and Seulgi can't help but feel bad for him. "Everyone thinks you're doing a good job Min," she says,
He lets out a shaky breath. "Except Baekhyun apparently."
She shakes him off. "He just thinks you're being too aggressive and putting us too close to the war."
"If that's the only problem he has with me, there wouldn't have been a whole fight about it."
She sighs. He's not wrong, Baekhyun has clearly had these thoughts for a while. "It's not that he doesn't like you, he doesn't even think you're doing bad, I think he's just tired. Yoongi defended you."
"He did?"
She nods. "He told us about what happened on Ganymede, about what Y/N's father said. Thinking she was dead for so long... I'm so sorry Jimin, I can't imagine what that was like."
He has tears forming in his eyes now. "It was..." He breaks off, biting his tongue.
"Hey, you can talk to me too," she whispers.
Jimin nearly breaks down at that. "Even Namjoon wasn't that painful. It was like my entire heart was ripped from me. I couldn't see or think, it felt like my life got drained away just from a few words. I couldn't breathe." She frowns. Sometimes Seulgi forgets how much Jimin's been through. He started as a lower rank than her, and now he's the highest rank of the entire crew. There's a reason for that.
He's been through Hell, that's for sure. The entire crew has, but him especially. She can tell Namjoon meant a lot to him, so if anyone can argue that being in this war is worth it, it's Jimin. She hopes he can talk to Baekhyun and get him onboard. However, there's still something she needs to know. She can't ignore Baekhyun because she disagrees. She can at least try and understand his side.
"Why are we doing this?" she asks.
"Truthfully, I'm doing it because of Namjoon. He brought us to Triton, and I know he wouldn't forgive us for running and hiding in a situation like this. I wouldn't be able to forgive myself. Possessing information made us important, and now since we've saved Ganymede..."
"It feels like we're the most important people in the solar system?" she asks, and he softly laughs, nodding.
"Yeah, something like that. I guess being on the Hep for so long makes you crave action. At the time, helping Ganymede and Triton felt like the right thing to do. We could help, so why shouldn't we, you know? Now... I think it's more because we want that fight, or at least I do."
"I do too," Seulgi replies. Jimin's jaw falls open at her words. "I want to fight for this solar system. Ganymede is safe now, and we were the cause of that. We survived Triton when very few people did. We survived the Hep, Kepler, the Silver Angel being boarded: there's a pattern there. Very few, if any, people survived. That can't be a coincidence."
Jimin casts his gaze down. "Do you think everyone else feels the same way?"
"You and I both know Y/N and Jungkook definitely do. They're with you until their last breath - and so am I. I know Hoseok is too. I think everyone's with you. Except Baekhyun."
He looks up again, meeting her eyes. What surprises Seulgi is that a single tear rolls down his cheek. "Do you... do you honestly think I'm doing a good job?" he softly asks, his voice cracking.
Seulgi immediately steps forward and embraces him, not able to take his pain any longer. He sniffles, hugging her back. She shushes him. "You're the best Captain we could ever ask for Jimin." They stay like that for a few moments before he nods, then, pulls back. He meets her eyes and smiles. She can't help but return the smile, opening her mouth to speak...
"I mean it."

A/N: JIMIN IS THE SOFTEST BOY IN EXISTENCE
Yoongi defending Jimin... is it getting hot in here or is it just me???
Jimin and Seulgi, an unlikely pair. I don't think they've had many one-on-one interactions, and definitely none this deep. I literally wrote in my notes: MORE JM AND SEUL MOMENTS PLSSS. All caps. Just like that. It's funny I'll be at work then I'll randomly think of a good idea and my co-workers will look at me like I'm crazy as I scramble to write it down in my phone. Maybe I'll share my notes at the end of the story, I think they're pretty funny. Anyway, there will be a lot of internal (both mental and crew-wise) conflict rather than physical for a bit, but I'm sure we could all use a break from explosions and war soooo I hope you guys enjoyed, and I'll see you next time!
