Do Not Go Gentle...

He's so cute... sigh...

Okay anyway this is the most emotional chapter since the Tragedy. If you cry that's okay, I'll cry too.

~~~
Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
~Day 3 || 12:37~
"Seulgi take over!" Yoongi says, causing the girl to nervously nod. Yoongi practically jumps out of the pilot's seat. He feels bad about leaving it to the girl with little experience, but as an Intelligence Officer let alone a Gold Intelligence Officer, she should know at least the basics of flying. Plus she's best friends with Y/N. Yoongi walks onto the bridge, nearly ripping the AR out of Hoseok's hand.
"Woah where are you going?" Hoseok asks, but Yoongi simply grumbles to himself, mostly ignoring his comment. "Yoongi, answer me when I'm talking to you."
Yoongi goes stiff. Hobi really is cut out to be a leader. "Those things are running around our city, I won't stand for it."
"An AR won't help much with that."
"I'm not using it, I'm going to the guns. You and I both know I'm the best shot we have."
Hosoek sighs, "I know, but Seulgi doesn't have much - if any - experience flying."
Yoongi grits his teeth, keeping his back turned towards Hoseok. "I need to do something. I'm sorry."
Yoongi walks away despite Hoseok's pleas, rushing down into the bay and to the familiar hallway. He finds the ladder, going down and navigating his way to the guns. He takes the top one, his mag boots clicking against the ground since they still didn't bother with the artificial gravity. He straps himself in and grabs the joystick. They entered the dome, sitting above the city and watching as the Goliaths terrorize it. Yoongi doesn't need to be on the ground to know that they're losing. There's smoke littering the sky, a lot of buildings collapsed with blood splattered all over the ground.
The giant guns set up in the streets to hold them back are torn to pieces, the military men operating them dead. Yoongi feels fear build up in his chest, but he can't let that get to him. He spots a Goliath and opens fire, using the rapid mode and hitting the creature several times in the back. It falls over. Yoongi scowls. Good riddance. He's not sure why he's so passionate about this. Maybe because he finally gets to fight for a cause he feels is just... or maybe it's because of Sapphire. Wait.
Sapphire.
Yoongi instantly panics. Is she alright? Is she inside, safe? Even if she is inside, it's possible a Goliath destroyed her house. What if she was at the lab? What if those Goliaths broke out again? Yoongi's blood boils, so he takes it out on the Goliaths flooding the streets. He bites his lower lip as he fires, seeing Sapphire's face flash in his mind. Her sweet, innocent smile. Her soft hand reaching out to him, promising that she'll show him what love is. He's not quite there yet, but he wants to be. He can't lose her. He cares too deeply for the girl.
He nearly goes still at his realization. Yoongi... cares? And he's openly admitting it to himself? He feels foreign. He feels like an outsider in his own skin. He shivers as his comm lights up, and he reluctantly presses on it. "Yoongi, can you please come back up here?"
"Why? I'm making progress. I've killed five so far. You should get down here and join me."
"You're risking killing the military men who are in the streets."
Yoongi pauses his rampage, considering Hoseok's words before closing his eyes. "With all due respect Hobi, they're probably dead anyway. Look at the surface. Look at it." There's a pause.
"Yoongi."
"Yes?"
"Get out of there now." Yoongi's eyes widen, and he's about to protest when he looks out the window.
There's a Goliath coming right at him.
Yoongi gasps as the creature leaps high into the air, using a skyscraper as support. He feels frozen as the Goliath throws himself at the ship, successfully grabbing the gun. Yoongi snaps back into action, his enhancements kicking in as he thinks of what to do. He rapidly jerks the gun, even firing to try and hit the beast, but to no avail. The Goliath harshly grabs the gun and pulls the nozzle free, rendering the weapon useless. The thing grabs the lower gun as well, sinking his claws into the metal and snarling at Yoongi as if taunting him.
Yoongi's eye twitches, his anger reaching the breaking point. His enhancements are the only thing keeping him somewhat grounded. He snaps to his senses and leaves the gunners seat, climbing back up the ladder and rushing down the hall. He breaks into the bay, running onto the bridge and joining Seulgi and Hoseok in the cockpit. "Ram the ship into the ground," Yoongi commands.
"Excuse me?" Seulgi asks. Hoseok looks at Yoongi equally confused.
"We have a Goliath on the bottom of our ship and God-knows the military needs some help down there. We can cut the Goliath's off from them, give their EMPs a chance to recharge, maybe even the odds," Yoongi says.
"Yoongi, the Moon is a cruiser. She's gigantic," Hobi slowly says.
Yoongi gives him a 'duh' look. "Exactly."
Hoseok considers it, then realizes they don't have much other choice. "Do it," he softly says, causing Seulgi to go still.
"This could get messy."
"It already is," Yoongi mumbles as she reluctantly lowers the ship. Their altitude drastically drops. The ship rattles, making Yoongi wobble. Hoseok does as well, placing a hand on Seulgi's chair and looking out at the ground approaching fast. "Slow us down," Yoongi says, and she obliges, reducing the speed.
"This is nerve-racking," she whispers. "I've never touched a ship's controls before."
"Yet you're doing well so far," Yoongi replies.
"Based on textbooks, and textbooks can only take you so far."
The three watch anxiously as they get closer to the combat. They see a group of people on the east side, cornered by three Goliaths. "Get them," Hoseok mutters. Seulgi nods, moving forward. She reaches them and hovers right in front of them, the Goliaths slamming into the side of the Moon. Seulgi groans as the sound of claws dig into the ship's hull.
"Hull integrity is at eighty percent!" she says, causing Yoongi to check his AR.
"We don't know if that kills them," Hoseok starts, but Yoongi holds up a hand.
"Jimin shot one in the face several times and it ran away. At the very least, we can get them to flee." Hoseok doesn't have time to protest as Yoongi jumps down into the bay, throwing on his helmet and preparing to open the main doors.
"Seventy percent! Whatever you're doing, do it fast!" Seulgi calls. Yoongi gulps, then practically slams the open button. The doors slowly open. Yoongi's met with three very angry Goliaths only a few feet below them. Shit. Yoongi opens fire, hitting the middle one in the face several times. The other two seem shocked that it's an actual weapon, not an EMP. Their temporary shock causes the middle one to yelp and run away, whimpering and covering his face. The other two snarl. Yoongi quickly reloads, taking a new mag off of his strap and clipping it in at lightning speed. The things he can do...
He calculates his shots as the closest one jumps, his claw landing on the Moon, but his body still hovering outside it. Yoongi risks walking closer to the opening, shooting the Goliath right in the face while he hangs there. He, just like his friend, whimpers. As a result, he lets go of the ship, falling to the ground on his back and immediately spasming, going on all fours and charging away. The last one gets a running start, clearly not going to repeat the mistakes of the previous two.
Yoongi doesn't waste any time, he simply opens fire, his shots finding their mark. However, the Goliath is fast. He jumps as high as he can and actually manages to get both claws on the ship. He gets one foot on as well, hissing and snarling, his drool hitting the Moon's floor. Yoongi keeps shooting him in the face, then, his gun clicks. He presses the trigger again, but nothing happens. He's dry. Yoongi goes pale. Well... fuck.
The Goliath roars in victory, reaching forward with his gigantic hand and grabbing Yoongi's frail body. Yoongi growls, his body getting crushed by the thing's massive claws. However, the Goliath gets shot in the face rapidly. He cries as the bullets pierce right through his skull, causing him to drop Yoongi. He lands on the floor with a loud 'thud', groaning at the contact. He looks up in time to see the Goliath fall from the ship. Yoongi pants.
A hand appears in front of him. Yoongi takes it, now standing in front of Hoseok. "Don't die on me yet grandpa," Hobi says, giving Yoongi a small nod that he returns.
"Thank you," he replies, "I'm sorry I'm being so rash, I just..."
"It's okay, we all do crazy things when we're on edge. At least no one got hurt. Actually, I think we saved lives because of it. Seulgi, can we land?" She agrees, and the Moon quickly lands. Yoongi reloads as Hoseok throws on his helmet, the landing gear now in place. The Moon rattles, and soon enough, Seulgi joins them in the bay.
"Hey hey hey!" a male voice yells from outside, causing the three to jump. They look up in-sync, noticing the other three standing outside. "What the hell did you do to my ship?" Baekhyun asks, causing Seulgi to laugh.
"I'm not much of a pilot." The three jump down onto the surface, meeting Jin, Baekhyun, and Taehyung.
"You saved our lives," Taehyung says, nodding his thanks to Seulgi.
"Oh come here you big baby," she replies, bringing the boy into a hug that he's quick to return.
"How's it going down here?" Hoseok asks, approaching Jin. He shakes his head, and as soon as Seulgi pulls back from the hug, Taehyung goes sour.
"What's going on?" Seulgi asks, furrowing her brows.
"Things aren't going too well down here. We lost our whole squad," Tae explains.
Yoongi instantly panics. "Has Jungkook been found yet?" The three go quiet. Yoongi's heart beats even faster.
"He has. He's okay," Tae mumbles.
"Then what's wrong dammit?" Hoseok demands.
Taehyung flinches at the man's sudden boldness. That's new from Hoseok, he normally doesn't demand anything. "It's Jimin..." Taehyung whispers. "We just got commed a few minutes ago."
Yoongi's eyes widen despite his helmet, he even takes a step back in fear. "What happened?" Yoongi asks, his voice almost like a murmur. Taehyung looks up, sighing.
"He's in a coma."
~12:37~
"I won't fucking leave him!"
You squirm and thrash in Jungkook's hold, tears streaming down your face. "Let me go Jeon!" you shout, hissing and looking into the hospital room. Jimin lies there, wires and machines all hooked up to him.
"We have to go! Let the doctors do their job! This won't mean anything if Ganymede falls!" Jungkook says in a plea, but you're blinded by your anger. Your love is lying there, unmoving. In a fucking coma.
You're gross right now: your face soaked with tears, your nose covered in snot, your body weak from the constant physical fight. You stare into the room longingly. You've been fighting Jungkook for a few minutes now, the empty hallways making your screams echo. You beg and whine for him to come back, to open his eyes - but it never works. The doctors are crowded around him, still running tests.
You continue to squirm in Kook's arms for several minutes. As each minute ticks by, your squirms get weaker, your body exhausted from the effort. You eventually sniffle, going limp in his arms. He brings you back against his chest, and you accept it. You relentlessly cry, clinging onto Jungkook's shirt as tightly as you can. "I know, I know..." he whispers, his voice shaky. That's when it hits you.
He's crying too.
You look up at him, but he refuses to meet your eyes. You have so many thoughts racing through your head. Jimin, the new creature, Jungkook's departure... what can you even focus on at this point? Everything has gone to shit so fast and you honestly feel numb. All you know is one thing. You want revenge. For everything that's ever happened to you. And there's only one way to do that. You back away from Jungkook, picking your helmet up from the floor and throwing it on. Jungkook looks confused. "If you want to join me, grab a helmet. If not, let me go," you say, walking away.
He wordlessly agrees, using his speed to check the first two rooms he sees. The first one is a bust, but the second one is empty, so he grabs a helmet from inside there. "Y/N-"
You hold up your hand, interrupting him. "I'm gonna find, and I'm gonna kill... every last one of them," you mutter, storming away. He doesn't say anything back: there's nothing to say. He only follows as you reach the lobby, bursting out of the door and loading your EMP gun. It buzzes to life, the soft blue glow illuminating your eyes.
"Where to first?" Jungkook asks, falling into step with you.
"My house." You have to make sure your family made it out okay. That Jasmine made it out okay. That's the last thing you need right now. You stifle your sobs, trying to push your mind away from Jimin, but it's impossible. The only way you can move on is by trying to distract yourself. "Where did you go?" you ask, causing Jungkook to gulp.
"Away."
"No shit!" you shout, shaking your head. You don't mean to be harsh to him, but your lover is in a coma, you have no idea if half of your crew is even alive, your home is under attack, Jungkook went missing for a full day without any trace, and to top it all off you don't know if your family is alright. It's safe to say you have a right to be a little angry at him for being so vague.
"Whatever Anya gave me, it worked. I'm still in pain, but I can walk - even run."
"What about your back?"
"I'm still wearing the brace, but that feels better too. I feel like all my injuries healed from broken bones to light sprains at most."
"That still doesn't answer where you went."
He sighs, "When I woke up, and I actually felt my body? I felt overjoyed. I ran away on instinct. I wanted to test and see what I could do."
"So you leave for a full day without checking in? Without telling anyone where you were going?" you ask, trying not to get too angry. He hesitates. That's when it hits you.
He's lying.
You stop, and so does he. You look up at him, but his face is hidden by his helmet. "What aren't you telling me?"
"Y/N-"
"Tell me right fucking now Jeon Jungkook."
He sucks in a breath. "I can't."
"Jungkook, I need to know!"
"No."
"Fucking hell Jungko-"
"God dammit Y/N this is serious!" he yells, causing you to jump. Based on his body language, you can tell he feels bad about yelling. "Y-Y/N I'm sorry, Y/N-"
"Forget it, let's just find my family," you mutter, storming past him. You're saying a lot of things you regret right now, but you're not in your right mind. You feel so numb. Everything was so good, then it got so bad. Worse than the first Battle for Ganymede somehow.
The two of you walk in silence, the distant sound of rumbling and roars the only audible noise in the area. For the most part, you're left alone. You see military groups rushing off in the distance, but that's about it. Neither Jungkook or you worry about them or joining them on their quest. Your own mission comes first. You didn't think to call Kai and tell him the news: you told Taehyung right away. Mostly since Jungkook is here, but also since he cares for Jimin.
You nearly stop at the thought of Jimin. It takes all your strength not to cry again. Everything bad is happening and it's happening because of you. You feel so guilty, the sadness of that nearly overwhelms you. You killed your father, and as a result, a group formed and went not only after you, but after Ganymede as an act of rebellion. Your actions caused this. They can say it's not your fault all you want, that you're just an excuse. But you're not an excuse. You're the spark.
You sniffle once again, kicking the dirt under your feet as you approach the outskirts, Jungkook walking slightly ahead of you. You keep your eyes on the ground, but Jungkook's voice quickly changes that. "I'm sorry," he mutters.
"I am too," you mutter back.
"I shouldn't have yelled."
"I shouldn't have lashed out," you reply, keeping your eyes on his helmet, "how did you find me?"
"I was looking everywhere for you, to be honest, but then I heard Ji-" He breaks off, gasping for air. "Then I heard J-Jimin scream your name, and I ran as fast as I could."
You sadly nod, scanning the area for any signs of your house or your family. Your eyes widen, your jaw dropping. The outskirts feel... abandoned. Destroyed. There's smoke everywhere, clouding your vision. The alarms go through their second round of blaring, causing you to wince. You can't help but feel the dread building up in your chest as you close in on your house, the damage starting to truly sink in.
Worry eats away at your skin, your entire body aching both physically and emotionally. You shake your head, tears clouding your vision as you make your way through the smoke cloud, your house should only be a dozen more feet away. You cough despite your helmet, shaking the dust away and pushing through the barrier blocking you from the thing you never thought you'd see. The air clears, and your jaw drops. Your house... it's completely destroyed.
Jungkook snaps his attention to you as you stare, but you quickly regain your composure and walk forward, your entire body shaking. You look around the terrain desperately, your throat too dry to speak. You want to yell out Jasmine's name, see if she's okay, but your tongue can't form words. Your heart bangs against your ribcage, physically hurting you as you cautiously step closer. You scan the ground, then, your heart stops. You throw your helmet off, the little oxygen left leaving you gasping as you fall to your knees, immediately throwing up.
They're dead. All of them are dead.
You cough, looking up again as your eyes widen. Your mom, Phoebe, Alisha... Jasmine. Their bodies are on the ground, scattered around what used to be your front yard. Time seems to slow down, Jungkook seems to disappear, the alarms fade away. Not even the Goliaths, or even Jimin, feel important right now. All that's here is Jasmine. You see her body and you can't help yourself: you break down.
You don't remember screaming, but your throat is hoarse as if you were screaming for hours. Your eyes are too swollen to keep crying, so you simply lie in the dirt, your body sweating, your eyes red, your stomach sick. Jungkook's behind you as you let yourself go, not caring about the rest of the world. You fall completely on the ground, letting your head hit the dirt as you look up at the night sky, Jupiter staring back. Your breath gets caught in your throat as your thoughts start to cloud your mind. "Jungkook?" you whisper: guilt, anger, and sadness all building up inside you.
"Y-Yeah?" he shakily asks. You softly smile, closing your eyes.
"Kill me."
~13:00~
Approximately seven hours until Earth arrives.
Taehyung walks next to his crewmates, the rumbling ground becoming second nature to them. They've only run into five Goliaths so far: all separate and easy enough to take down. They're not entirely sure what to do. They're not sure how long they have until the city is overrun, but they have to keep moving. Together they can solve anything... probably. Taehyung isn't sure if just a small band of crewmates can solve this, but what kind of people would they be if they didn't try?
Taehyung sighs and kicks at the dirt, causing Yoongi to look at him. "You alright?"
Tae shrugs. "Knowing Jungkook is okay helps but... I don't know. Why does every piece of good news have to come with something bad?"
Yoongi shakes his head, "I wish I had an answer for that, I really do." They fall into a short silence as the Moon rumbles over their heads. Hoseok and Baekhyun went back on board while the others stayed on the surface. The Moon is badly damaged, the hull's scratched to hell and both of the main guns have been taken out. Baekhyun still has the pilot's guns, but that's about it. There's always missiles, but using them on the surface does not sound like a good idea.
Taehyung lets himself drift further into his thoughts. He's worried for Jimin, he really is. He's come to care for the Captain. A lot, actually. That's natural when he's the best friend of the boy Tae's dating. His heart pangs for Jungkook. He just wants to see him safe already. Is this what Jimin felt during the battle? That constant pain of the unknown? They say Jungkook was found, but is he alright? Is he hurt? Did they go out looking for more Goliaths? The idea of that makes Taehyung shiver. Yoongi looks over at him again.
"How do you do it?" Tae asks in a whisper.
"Do what?" Yoongi asks back.
"Stay so calm?"
Yoongi hesitates, "I'm not sure. I don't really feel calm, then again I don't exactly know what feelings are. Maybe it's my enhancements or the way I grew up... or both. Maybe it's who I am. I'd be more than willing to switch lives if you want, you do have a hot boyfriend." Taehyung softly smiles. Is Yoongi trying to make him feel better? Soften his mood by joking a bit? Tae's a little surprised, but he accepts the gesture.
Taehyung falls into his mind again, thinking about everything so far. Does he want this? Is this where he wants to be? He looks around at his crewmates and thinks about each one. Seulgi. He doesn't talk to her too much, but for the most part she's fun to be around. At the arcade with the relentless teasing, the dinner where she wanted to know all the gossip in their lives, on the Moon when they were fighting for Ganymede when she showed her serious side. She's a natural leader, but also a friend. Taehyung respects her for that.
He looks at Jin, who's surprised Tae in many ways. The fact that Kim Seokjin opened up to Tae still boggles his mind a little bit. He doesn't complain though; Jin has a lot more going on than he shows. Taehyung respects him too. And Baekhyun, with his varying views. Despite his opinions he still helps the crew, both for them and for the innocents suffering. He may not admit it, but he's a hero. He's a good guy. So is Hoseok, with his bubbly nature and outgoing personality. That's something Tae wishes he had more of. Tae's gotten more and more reserved as he's matured, but part of him wishes he had that same bubbly nature as Hoseok.
Finally, Tae looks at Yoongi, the man walking besides him. This one's strange to him. Yoongi has a tendency to light up the room when he smiles. He also instantly calms Taehyung with just his presence. Taehyung trusts the man: he's not sure why, but he does. Maybe it's the enhancements, the calm nature, or maybe something deeper. Regardless, Taehyung trusts him. He trusts this crew with his life. Every single one of them. So, Taehyung nods. Looking around at this crew, all his people, the ones he's known for over a month now... this is what he wants.
He belongs to this crew.
He lets out a breath. Getting over that mental dilemma took a few steps, but at least he knows it now. "Do you think we'll last seven hours?" Jin asks.
Seulgi shrugs. "If we're careful we'll last at least one."
"Does anyone know where we're going?" Yoongi asks, and Tae shakes his head.
"Not in the slightest."
They're still on the east end, but there isn't much action over here. Not yet, anyway. "What's taking those Goliaths so long to get here? Are we winning?" Jin asks, a hopeful expression on his face.
Taehyung shares that expression, "For now maybe. Otherwise we would've been overrun by now." Yoongi softly smiles, making Taehyung smile as well. There it is right there: the smile that wins everyone over. However, his smile fades and he suddenly stops. "What is it?" Tae asks, causing the rest of them to stop as well.
"Did you hear that?" Yoongi asks. They shake their heads. After a few seconds, a loud 'boom' is heard, sending Taehyung flying back. He groans as he rolls across the concrete. He snaps his head up and sees a Goliath standing on top of the nearest building as it starts to crumble. The force of its jump must have been what knocked Tae back.
"Run!" Hoseok commands over their comms, his voice echoing throughout Taehyung's helmet.
'You don't have to tell me twice,' Taehyung thinks to himself as he stands, wobbling slightly. He picks his EMP up and shoots the thing, missing two shots but hitting his third. It snarls and jumps down, landing on the ground and making what feels like the whole Moon shudder. "Jesus," Yoongi says, opening fire. Taehyung regains his footing and does the same, trying his hardest to down the beast. It roars in response, swiping at Jin. Jin lets out a scream in panic as he ducks, the creature's claw narrowly missing his head.
Taehyung bites his lower lip as the Goliath finally starts to shake, the EMP blasts getting to it. And, after only two more successful hits from Seulgi: it falls. Taehyung lets out a breath he didn't know he was holding. "Should we be using our ARs instead?" Yoongi asks, and Seulgi shrugs. "Hoseok killed the one who jumped on the ship, the problem with that is that was at close range," Yoongi explains. Yoongi and Seulgi keep talking about what they should do, but Taehyung can't help but zone out and scan the area around him.
He sees the giant military tower in the distance, and his eyes narrow. "Jin..." Tae says. The man hums, so Taehyung points to the building. "You were up there with Y/N, right?"
"Yeah, why?"
"Care to give us a tour?" Taehyung asks, looking over at him.
Jin goes still. "What? Why? The military are all out fighting Goliaths."
"That's not why." Taehyung motions to the guns on the top of the building. "Think they can point towards the surface?"
"They're called anti-air guns not anti-ground guns."
Taehyung shakes his head, fighting off his chuckle. "But do you think they can point towards the surface?"
"Maybe," Jin replies, shrugging, "Y/N was the one who operated one, not me."
"I'm sure it can work. We have nothing to lose if we try," Hoseok says, his voice still echoing in Taehyung's helmet.
"We can fuck up some Goliaths on the way there and maybe take the upper hand," Taehyung replies, causing Yoongi to hum.
"Good plan rookie," Yoongi whispers, walking by Taehyung and leading the way to the tower. Taehyung can't help it: he smiles. Maybe he's more of a leader than he thought...
~13:07~
"Y/N would you please stop?"
She doesn't reply, she simply keeps moving. "Y/N!" Jungkook calls after her. She sighs, her helmet now on as she walks to the edge of the city. They're right at the end, the last building on their left as Jungkook approaches her. She slows her pace to a stop. Jungkook stops to stand by her side. "Can we talk, please?" She hasn't said a word for almost half an hour now. Her last phrase was 'kill me', and of course, Jungkook didn't take too kindly to hearing those words.
"There's nothing to talk about," she mutters, looking out at the vast landscape ahead. Jungkook stands there, watching the distance with her. "There's nothing out there. Everything that was out there is here now, in my city," she whispers, shaking her head. She takes off her helmet, causing Jungkook to panic.
"Y/N, the oxygen-"
"I don't care," she interrupts, tossing it on the ground and sitting. Jungkook can't help it: he does the same.
He sits next to her, placing his helmet on the dirt and looking over at her. She's so... beautiful. The most beautiful woman he's ever seen. Her curious, sad eyes looking out at the landscape, her defeated form, her little pout on her lips. No wonder why he fell for her. It's hard not to. Sitting next to him is the most determined and brave woman he knows. He sighs, shaking his head. Why can't she see that too?
"We should head back," he says, but she keeps her eyes dead ahead.
"I just want to sit here for a little while... maybe forever."
"Y/N-"
"I don't see a point, Jungkook. My love is on the verge of death, my family's gone, and we're going to die today. I'd rather it be on my terms."
"Is Jimin dead?"
She finally looks over at him, shock in her beautiful eyes.
"No."
"Is the crew dead?"
"No."
"Are we dead yet?" he asks as tears swell up in her eyes.
"No," she mutters, turning her head to look straight. "I still don't see much point. It may not be yet, but soon."
"This isn't you," Jungkook says.
Y/N scoffs, "Oh gee, I'm so sorry that I'm not acting myself after I literally just saw the last of my family slaughtered!"
He jumps at her tone, but he can't hold it against her. He can't imagine how she's feeling. "Don't give up. Please put your helmet back on before it's too late."
"I don't want to live anymore," she whispers back, causing Jungkook to feel fear blossom throughout his body.
"Don't you dare even think that."
"What's the point?" she asks, desperate. Jungkook takes a deep breath.
"Look at your left hand." She takes off her glove, staring down at it. "Look at your ring finger." She does. "That is the point. You can say all you want about him being in a coma, but he's not dead. He's not. I can't imagine how much pain you're in right now: losing your family... I'm so sorry Y/N, I wish I could take it away, but your family isn't truly dead. Only one of those bastards was worthy of being related to you."
"Jasmine..." Y/N says in a whimper, "I didn't even thank her for the funeral."
"You know what I think?" She stays quiet. "She knows how much that meant to you." She looks over at him in shock. He rapidly nods. "She knows, Y/N. She knows."
She plays with her promise ring, considering his words. He knows he needs to keep talking. Just a few more things and she'll put her helmet back on. The oxygen is getting thinner by the second, and they can't survive much longer without the support of their helmets. "Y/N I will always be in love with you."
She goes still, "J-Jungkook-"
"Just listen. Just for a few seconds, okay?" She reluctantly agrees. "Every time I lay my eyes on you, all I think of is how amazing you are. No matter how close you and Jimin get, you and I will always be a little bit closer. At the end of the day, there's only one person who witnessed first hand how horrible your father was." He motions to himself, "me." She sniffles, her tears falling once again. "You're the strongest, fiercest woman I know. You're the same person who called your father out to the entire solar system, the same one who went back for Yeonjun on Kepler since you couldn't let him die, the same one who never gave up on me even after my enhancements... the same one who pushed through to save Ganymede when you thought Jimin was dead."
She looks over at him, an unreadable expression in her eyes, her mouth slightly open. "You don't give up. You never gave up, and that is why I will always love you. Why I'll always cherish you. No one can get rid of your passion and emotion... no one can get rid of you." Her eyes widen, her entire body going stiff as she struggles to breathe. "I can't live without you, L/N. I can't. So, please, don't give up on me. Don't give up on Ganymede. Don't give up on him." She's covered with snot and tears at this point, but she doesn't care. She doesn't even bother wiping them away.
"You and me?" he says, dryly chuckling and shaking his head, "we're soulmates. We always will be." He doesn't mean it in a romantic way, but the words still hold the same weight.
She scans his body up and down, then finds the courage to speak. "J-Jungkook?" He nods. "I love you."
He softly smiles as she comes closer, hugging him gently. She slowly wraps her arms around him, squeezing his back. "I love you too, and thank you," he mumbles.
They sit on the Ganymede dirt, holding each other close for a solid minute before Jungkook pulls back. "Helmets?" he asks. She nods, crawling forward and grabbing hers. She puts it back on, and so does he. He still keeps a smile on his face despite her not being able to see it. He needs to stay positive, otherwise all their efforts will be worth nothing. He gives her a small nod. "Ready to kill some Goliaths?" She nods back.
"Let's kill some fucking Goliaths."
~14:00~
Approximately six hours until Earth arrives.
It's safe to say they ran into some issues while on their way to the military tower. They only met a good dozen Goliaths on the way. First there was two, popping out from some random corner they missed. Then, there was three that almost killed them if it wasn't for Baekhyun in the sky. Then, of course, more and more kept coming. They downed them all, but that's all only temporary. Normally these EMPs last six hours, so the ones they got earlier will wake up by the time Earth gets here.
Seulgi sighs as they finally enter the military tower, Taehyung and Jin leading the way while Baekhyun flies away, choosing to check on the rest of the city while they stay inside. For now, they're safe unless Goliaths can magically shrink and fit inside the building. Actually, that's a terrifying thought that Seulgi regrets having. She shakes her head in disgust as they go right for the back elevators, squeezing inside and pressing the top floor.
After a minute, they reach the top floor, then go up the stairs to the roof, bursting free of the door and letting the sky greet them. "Wow, those are big guns," Taehyung says.
Seulgi snickers. "They are anti-aircraft."
Yoongi approaches the one closest to the edge of the rooftop, playing with its controls. It shifts slightly, and Yoongi sighs. Taehyung shakes his head. "Not working?" Tae asks.
"I have to actually get on it to see, hang on," Yoongi mutters, boosting himself up and into the seat. He straps himself in, the gun coming to life under his fingertips. The gun swerves, the massive nozzle starting to point downwards. "It's not perfect, but I can definitely get the Goliaths on buildings. As for the road..." Yoongi moves it down more. "I can get the ones from a distance, but not directly underneath us."
"This is perfect, we all get on a gun and we can take out the ones terrorizing the city. Taehyung you're actually a genius," Seulgi says, stepping towards the one next to Yoongi.
"When you're surrounded by geniuses, it kind of rubs off on you," Taehyung replies.
"Woah, is that Taehyung talking or Baekhyun?" Jin asks with a chuckle.
Seulgi shakes her head with a small smile as she straps herself into the gun, letting out a small 'woah' once the thing illuminates under her grasp. She takes a moment to glance over the controls, recognizing them from the old textbooks she used to read. Then, the nozzle swerves, lowering to the ground. "Wow... you can really see everything from up here," Seulgi whispers.
Taehyung hums. "Yeah, I can't tell if that's comforting or even worse."
"Poor Ganymede," Seulgi says, locking eyes with a Goliath not too far away.
Seulgi's right: they can see everything from up here. The military tower is in the center of the city, overlooking everything. Taehyung gets on a gun on the left side while Jin takes one on the right. There - now three of the four corners are covered. Seulgi can't help but refocus her attention to the city. There's smoke and collapsed buildings, dozens of Goliaths running around. The alarms still faintly blare, gunfire is heard in the distance as well. There's so many of them... but they have to try. For Y/N. For Jimin. For Jungkook. For Ganymede.
"Alright, I'll do the honors," Seulgi says, pressing 'fire'. The entire gun shakes. Seulgi groans as she's thrown against the chair, her back momentarily throbbing from the force. The shot hits the Goliath, and it instantly falls over, dead. "Okay so... they work," Seulgi comments.
Yoongi chuckles. "Shit, we're back in this."
"Hell yeah we are," Seulgi replies, firing again. She misses this shot. Then she misses the next, but she hits the third. That's two down from her already.
Taehyung and Jin open fire, along with Yoongi. "Keep firing until you don't see any more," Seulgi says.
"On it ma'am," Taehyung replies, causing Seulgi to chuckle, then, she freezes. Is she in command? Again? Yoongi has the intelligence enhancements, maybe she should recommend him taking over. However, he's not much of a leader. He's a good, strong, intelligent man: but he's way too reserved. Hoseok makes a good leader since he cares about everyone, the same goes for Jimin. Seulgi makes a good leader since she can stay calm and direct others under pressure. No wonder why this crew is meant to be. They all have their things. All of them.
"This is all fun and games until they realize we're here and wrecking them," Taehyung says, his voice loud in Seulgi's helmet.
"Be prepared to run back inside if they decide to retaliate. I'm hoping we can kill most of them before that happens though," Seulgi replies, and the crew hums to her command. She keeps firing. For several minutes, they take out as many as they can. It almost seems like they're getting the upper hand. They must have killed at least forty by this point. However, that changes when the roars start getting closer. Uh oh. They figured it out.
Seulgi gulps, continuing to locate Goliaths (which is getting harder to do as they take out more) and focusing on them rather than their impending doom. "We need to go!" Taehyung's panicked voice says.
"What's wrong?" Seulgi asks, hitting another Goliath and killing him.
"They're right on top of my side, five at least!" Taehyung says with a small yelp. Out of the corner of her eye, she notices Taehyung unbuckle himself and fall from the gun, landing on the roof with a 'thud'.
"Shit," Seulgi mutters, unstrapping herself and doing the same. "Let's go!" she yells as Jin scurries to follow them. "Yoongi!" The man reluctantly starts to unbuckle. "Come on this is no place to die." A Goliath jumps up, his claw landing on the edge of the roof where Taehyung used to be. Tae jumps and goes for his AR rather than his EMP. He shoots the Goliath in the face as it starts to boost itself onto the roof. It yells in shock as the bullets make contact with its head. In its shock, it doesn't cover its face. Taehyung doesn't stop, he simply empties his entire mag into the creature's head. It works. The Goliath falls off the roof, dead.
"Good job Tae!" Seulgi says as Yoongi hops down, swinging his AR over his shoulder.
"Seulgi come in!" a familiar yet static-filled male voice says.
"Seulgi speaking, who is this?"
"It's Kai, we have a bunker set up. We evacuated all we could, I'm calling all military to the bunker. We're staying inside until Earth arrives, it's our only chance!"
"We have them on the run, sir. Jin, Taehyung, Yoongi, and I managed to use the anti-aircraft guns and take a lot of them out." There's a pause.
"Shit, good work! My point still stands, I'm not risking losing any more lives. I'm sorry."
Seulgi sighs, "It's okay sir, where is the bunker?"
"South end, right at the edge of the city, you can't miss it."
"Thank you, we'll be there shortly."
Kai tunes out. Seulgi shakes her head just as another Goliath hops up onto the roof, snarling. The crew all open fire with their ARs, hitting it in the head. It whimpers and whines as the bullets hit it, the thing unsuspecting to all these bullets. Within only a few moments, it trips over the edge and falls to its death. "Shit, this is working," Seulgi mutters in disbelief. Taehyung's plan really just caused almost fifty Goliaths to die.
"Back inside, we have to get to the bunker," Seulgi says. The crew's quick to obey. They get inside, closing the door. "Alright we've seen those Goliaths take out buildings before, let's not be here when they try the same with this tower." The other three nod as they walk into the elevator, reloading and anxiously awaiting their escape. Seulgi checks her frequency, then sighs, pressing on her comm. "Hobi, do you read?"
There's a few beats of silence. "I'm here. Nice shooting on those guns, we've been taking out a lot all over the city. I'd say there's only twenty left at most."
"That's the best news I've heard all day. Can you come back to our position? We're going to head to the bunker Kai told us about."
"A bunker? That's the first I've heard of it, I hope we're invited in."
Seulgi snickers as the elevator chimes, the doors opening. The crew steps out, navigating down the hall until they reach the lobby, the front doors now in sight. "Don't worry, I'm sure you are. Then again you have your own personal bunker up there."
Hoseok chuckles. "You're right. You're doing a great job by the way."
Seulgi softly smiles. Hoseok always makes her feel better. Even though she's been constantly on edge these past three days, he's always helped her through it. "Thanks sunshine, see you in a minute." She tunes out, falling into step with her crewmates as they burst through the doors. The air hits them, but Seulgi immediately goes still. Her jaw drops, and everyone holds up their ARs. "Well... shit," Seulgi mutters, holding hers up as well. "Hey guys," she says, gulping.
Eight Goliaths surround them, snarling and preparing to jump...
~14:15~
Hoseok's eyes widen as he takes in the sight. His crew is surrounded by Goliaths, fighting for their lives as they struggle to dodge and fire at the same time. And that's not all - there's eight Goliaths. Eight. Not one or two or three... eight. How is he supposed to react to that? He sees Seulgi's face in his mind, and anger boils up inside him. "Shoot them!" Hoseok commands.
Baekhyun seems almost hesitant, "These guns are powerful Hobi, I could hit one of them in the process."
"Then get me close enough to assist them."
"The Moon's hull isn't doing too well, if she takes only a few more hits we may lose her forever."
"I. Don't. Care. Get me down there." Baekhyun's taken aback by Hoseok's boldness, but he doesn't give in to the Pilot's stares. All he sees is Seulgi's face. Hell, even Yoongi's. He can't let them die if there's something he can do about it. He'll worry about the consequences later, they can't be as bad as losing a life. Hobi may love the Moon, but he loves Seulgi more.
He goes stiff at his thoughts. Loves... Seulgi? As Baekhyun lowers the ship, Hoseok falls deeper into his thoughts. No... does he love Seulgi? Already? Well, it's been three weeks since they got together, so maybe that's why he has these thoughts. He's also dated - and loved - her before. Maybe he does love her. It's all about manning up and telling her. He's always one for honesty, and hiding a revelation like this would be plain wrong and against his principles. Now he's even more determined to fight. For her.
The Moon rattles as she gets closer, and Baekhyun grits his teeth. "Fuck those Goliaths are angry. One of them is leaping at us."
"Open the bay doors," Hoseok mutters. He steps out of the cockpit much to Baekhyun's dismay. He grabs his AR and makes sure it's fully loaded before traversing down to the bay, standing in front of the door.
"Hoseok I don't know how much more we can take!"
"Open the doors!" Hoseok calls back, not really caring about the ship right now. Of course he cares for the Moon, but the crew won't survive without his help.
The doors start to open. Hoseok winces at the sight. They managed to kill two, but six more still stand. Granted, three of them are focused on the Moon, but three is still a dangerous amount to deal with no matter how many people you have. Hoseok kneels, blasting the closest one in the face. Baekhyun hovers above the ground about thirty feet in the air as the closest Goliath growls and hisses. It jumps up only to be met with more bullets. It misses his jump, clawing at air instead of the ship. Hoseok smirks as it falls back down, stumbling and yelling out in pain.
Hoseok continues his barrage until his AR clicks empty, so he reloads. He reloads as fast as he can, watching as the four crewmates on the ground run around, trying to dodge the attacks constantly being thrown their way. He makes sure his AR is fully reloaded before peeking back down and firing. The closest Goliath hisses as it falls over, dead. Hoseok shoots the next one, and with the help of one of his crewmates, that one falls quicker than the last. Four left. Four is doable.
One of his crewmates gets their AR swiped from their hands, but they only pull their EMP blaster out to replace it, slowing the Goliath down. After a few more shots, Hoseok needs to reload again, and he groans in frustration. He would think advanced technology would be able to make standard ARs hold more than thirty rounds, but apparently not. Hoseok grumbles to himself as he puts another mag in, looking up in time to see a Goliath hopping towards him.
He yelps and falls over in shock as the Goliath jumps high enough to grip the Moon. The ship rumbles. "Fucking hell. Hoseok, we're in bad shape!" Baekhyun says.
"They're almost dead! Hang in there!" Hoseok replies, sitting up as the Goliath tries to get in. However, trying to pull a massive body into a small opening while floating in air is never easy. Hobi takes the opportunity to shoot, hitting the creature right in its forehead. It snarls as it swipes at Hoseok. The claw is long enough to knock the AR out of his hand, causing him to jump.
Hoseok scurries back as the Goliath places one foot on the entrance, its body way too massive to fit inside, but it's trying anyway. "Get the fuck off my ship!" Hobi shouts, rolling forward and grabbing his AR again. He snaps up and shoots the Goliath as many times as he can, causing the creature to cry out in pain before falling off the ship, taking a small chunk of the door with it.
Hoseok pants, shaking his head. He crawls forward and peeks out of the Moon. He smiles. The rest of the Goliaths are dead thanks to the crew. "Okay, we're good, land!" Hoseok says, his heartbeat in his ears and his adrenaline through the roof. He lets out a small sigh of relief once the landing gear is engaged. Hobi sees Seulgi rushing towards him.
"Hobi! Are you okay?" she asks, slowing to a stop right outside the ship. He starts to nod, then, he feels pain shoot throughout his body.
"Y-Yeah, I think?" Hoseok asks, puzzled by the sudden pain.
Seulgi goes still, "Hobi... you're bleeding."
Hoseok looks down in panic, seeing his chestplate busted. he throws it off and looks down at his stomach, seeing blood pouring out. He starts to hyperventilate. In his adrenaline, he didn't even feel the creature gash him. It must've been when he knocked his AR away. He falls to the ground of the Moon, the pain starting to kick in. "Hoseok!" Seulgi exclaims, rushing onto the ship and kneeling next to him. He throws off his helmet so he can breathe better, but the limited oxygen on Ganymede and the Moon isn't really helping.
Seulgi takes her helmet off as well, unbuttoning Hoseok's black shirt and revealing the wound. It's a straight line across his stomach, luckily not too deep, but it's big. Looks like the AR and chestplate took most of the damage for him. He wouldn't be alive if it wasn't for that. "S-Seulgi," he says, but she shushes him.
"Save your strength. We're getting you to that bunker. Baekhyun!"
"Yes?"
"Take us to the bunker! The rest of you get on board now!" The other three oblige, closing what's left of the main doors as Baekhyun takes off.
"Seulgi there's s-something I need to tell you," Hoseok says, but Seulgi shakes her head.
"Don't say things like that okay? Jin, help me get him to the medbay, I can stop the bleeding." Jin nods, and together, the two carry Hoseok there. It's a struggle, but it works.
Hoseok groans as he's placed on the bed, his stomach hollering in pain as Seulgi gets to work. "Jin, find me bandages right now."
"Bandages?"
"I don't know! I'm not a medic!" Jin sighs but agrees, rifling through the drawers around the medbay until he finds something.
Hoseok looks up, seeing Seulgi in pain. She has tears streaming down her face. "Hey, what's wrong?" he asks, and she gazes at him in surprise.
"Hoseok you have an open wound on your stomach! From a Goliath!"
He softly smiles. "I-It's okay, it's not that deep." She gulps, eyeing the wound before looking over at Jin. He tosses her the bandages and she kneels next to him. "Seulgi please l-listen to me," he says.
She finally gives in. "Just talk while I work, okay?" she asks, going right for his wound.
"I know I'll make it, okay?"
She nods, "You will. You better, otherwise I'm reviving you to kick your ass for dying on me."
He chuckles, coughing shortly after. "Seul?" She hums, getting to work on the bandages. His soft smile turns into a full smile, and he takes a deep breath.
"I love you."
She looks up at him, eyes wide and her entire body going still. She seems at a loss for words. The three seconds that pass feels like an eternity. Hoseok can't help but feel bad. Is he forcing her into saying it back since he's injured? Did he say it too soon? Does she feel even remotely the same? He gasps for air, and Seulgi quickly remembers what she has to do and starts to wrap the bandages around him. "Sunshine?" she whisper-asks, working as fast as she can.
"Yeah?" He watches her face. His heart beats faster when he sees her smile.
"I love you too."
~14:25~
The light of Jupiter hits slightly different now as you traverse down the road, the bunker your main destination. Kai just contacted you and told you about where to hide, and truthfully, you barely listened. Jungkook did all the talking - you stood there and watched. There wasn't really much more you could do. Jungkook didn't hold it against you, so what's the point in dwelling on it?
The lab isn't too far away, a plentiful amount of Goliath corpses and unconscious bodies surrounding you. You gulp, eyeing each one carefully. At any moment they can jump up and ambush you, but you try not to think about that. As long as you're careful you should be fine. Jungkook's with you - he's pretty much your bodyguard. Super speed? Check. Super strength? Check. Super intelligence? Check. Super hot? Check. What doesn't he have at this point? Is he good at everything now? Granted, he always was, but now he has even more reason to brag.
Part of you wonders what it's like to get enhancements. You hear it's a long process. The injections are the easiest part: they're the thing that gives you the abilities, but you need to have something physically added to your body to keep the serum running through you constantly. That's why they all have a physical mark to show their gifts. Jungkook's cheeks, Jackson's eyes... that's why it's so weird that Yoongi has nothing.
You frown at the thought of Yoongi. Is he okay? You hope he is. You feel bad for not comming your team at all, but part of you is scared to. You've already lost everything, not knowing if your crewmates are alive or dead is honestly better than knowing for sure. Best case they're all alive, worst they're all dead. The odds are it's in the middle somewhere. You shiver at the thought, refusing to go deeper. Snap out of it, you still have a job to do.
"It's not too much farther, do you want to rest for a minute while I scout ahead?" Jungkook asks. On a normal day you'd chastise the idea of splitting up, even if Kook would be within yelling distance. And for him, that's like two seconds of running. But today that idea sounds wonderful. Jungkook's the only thing keeping you going right now, but you do kind of need a moment alone as well. So, you speak.
"Sure Kookie, I'll be right here." He nods before taking off, staying low and keeping his EMP ready as he traverses across the land.
You watch him go with a small smile on your face, then, you hear a small curse from not too far away. You whip around at the sound of the human voice. You strap your EMP over your shoulder and replace it with your AR, preparing to yell for Jungkook if this person isn't friendly. Although, on Ganymede, who isn't friendly? Unless Jackson came back, but that's highly unlikely. He cares far too much about his own life to come back at a time like this. Regardless of your thoughts, you step forward. The voice sounds like it came from the alleyway only a few feet away.
"Is she dead?" a female voice asks. You freeze, leaning up against the side of the wall and deciding to listen.
"How would I know? I think we're all more worried about avoiding the other Goliaths," a male voice replies.
"We made that Goliath variant specifically for her and you're telling me you don't know where it is?" You go still. That voice sounds familiar. Scarily familiar. "You're kidding, right?" she demands.
"I'm sorry but I didn't really want to get near that thing. I tried calling Ren to see what happened, but he hasn't replied at all."
"Whatever, she isn't important right now. What she did she will pay for in time, it's the Goliaths I need to know more about. I haven't seen enough. We need more." You can't take it anymore. You step into the alley, raising your AR. Two people stand there, armored up with helmets on, their backs facing you. They both have pistols in their holsters, but you pay them no mind.
"Is this really worth it? What if it gets traced back to us?" the man asks.
"It won't if you shut up. No one needs to know it was us."
You shoot a single round of your AR into the ground, and they both jump and whip around, their hands going to their pistols. You hold your barrel up, aiming right for the man's head. Armor or not, a bullet to the head will kill them instantly. "What the hell are you talking about?" you ask, planting your feet. The man yelps and starts to run away. You reluctantly let him go, focusing on the woman instead. You don't want to take innocent lives today. Well, what you assume are innocent lives. You don't know the full story, you're not the executioner. You're supposed to be a healer.
"Y/N L/N, here we are at last. Looks like my previous question got answered. You are alive."
"That thing at the west side: you created it?" you ask.
"I did. I was studying the blood from the Goliaths and managed to create a sort of serum. I needed a distraction to get it set up, so I set the Goliaths free as well," she explains.
"Did you coordinate the attacks on me? The break outs of the Goliaths in the other cities?" She hesitates, then nods. "Why are you telling me this?" you ask.
"Because we'll either both be dead by the end of today, or one of us will be dead in the next five minutes. That person is most likely going to be you, by the way."
"Sorry, but seeing as I have a gun pointed at you, I don't think we'll see eye-to-eye on that."
She shakes her head in response. "Your father was a hero. How could you?"
"Oh I don't know, maybe because he brought his pistol with him when I asked to talk... maybe because he was a traitor... maybe because he wasn't really a hero... oh, wait - I got it! Maybe because he abused his fucking daughter!" you shout, clutching your AR tightly as your heart races. "How could you let those Goliaths go? How could you let all of those innocent people die?"
"I'm a scientist, Y/N. I wanted to see what would happen. These creatures are a force of nature, and we played with it too much. We deserve to suffer the consequences." She looks up at the sky. "Plus, isn't it fascinating to know? Just what they're capable of, what they're made of, where they come from. Maybe they can be used for our advantage in the future. Or maybe this can help Earth."
"Help Earth?"
She hums, "Ganymede defeated the Belt, making them a strong opponent. Earth deserves to rule the solar system. Ganymede and Mars deserve to be weakened so Earth can rule."
"You're crazy."
"I'm being realistic. We messed with these things, and now we're paying the price. Be careful what you wish for, right? Everyone always wondered what alien life would be, now they want it to go away. Hypocrites. They insult these creatures because they're new and dangerous but... I see them as art. True art."
"You make me sick," you mutter, your mouth wide open despite her not being able to see it.
"I'm afraid this is where we bid our goodbyes, I have some more serums to make, and I won't let you get in my way."
That's when it hits you. The way she spoke, the way she holds herself, her frame... no. You take a step back, nearly dropping your AR. "Alice?" you whisper-ask.
The girl slowly nods, "So you aren't as dumb as I thought... interesting."
"You have more of these serums?"
"Plenty, and I plan to use them."
"Ganymede is your little experiment then, huh?"
"It is."
You shake your head and raise your AR. "You know I can't let you do that." Your heart hammers against your chest, your hands clammy as your finger plays with the trigger.
"Go ahead, murder me like you did your father," she says.
"I'm no murderer, I only kill when I have to."
"Fine, let's play that game then." Alice grabs her pistol, causing you to go on full alert. She moves slowly, springing the gun free before tossing it to the ground. "Kill me," she says, holding her hands up in defeat.
Nausea rises to your stomach. This is the woman who put a target on your back. She's the leader. She has serums that'll potentially turn dozens of Goliaths into whatever those things were. The things that put Jimin in a coma. You go still. Your love is suffering because of this woman. No one needs to know it was you. In fact, no one will know. Not like last time. Your father was a mess, but this won't be.
She senses your change in demeanor. "Y/N, wait-"
"Shut up," you say, about to squeeze the trigger. However, you hesitate, causing her to chuckle.
"Weak," she replies, then she goes for her pistol.
"No!" you shout as she grabs it, about to come up shooting. You have to, you have no choice now. You fire a single round, and the bullet pierces through her head. She falls to the ground, dead.
You just killed Alice.
This was the woman you thought was becoming your friend. What will Anya think? Is Anya in on it? Is Sapphire in on it? You can't bear that thought. You only wanted a friend, but it turns out she wanted you dead. She led a group against you, how can you forgive that? She terrorized your home, killed thousands of people. Put Jimin in a coma. You grit your teeth. You're glad she's gone.
Jungkook comes up behind you, and you sigh. "Y/N, what the hell?" he asks, shock and worry in his tone.
"It was Alice. She was the one who led the group against me, she let the Goliaths out, Jungkook."
He goes still. "Shit..."
"Shit is right. What do we tell Anya?"
"I don't think there's anything we can tell her. For now, we have to pretend everything's okay. But we need to get out of here and get to that bunker, okay?" You nod, still sad and hurt from her betrayal. "I'm so sorry Y/N," he whispers, but you shake him off.
"I guess she was never really my friend."
~14:55~
You step into the bunker, hyperventilating as the crowd surrounds you. There's military personnel set up outside, giant guns pointed at the road leading straight to them. You know you need to find Kai and fast, but there's not much you can do right now. The crowd is full of government officials and high-ranking figures. Most of the civilians are gone except for a select few. You push through the people, Jungkook hot on your tail.
"Do you think the crew got here yet?" Jungkook asks, and you bite your lower lip. You want to believe they did, but it's hard to think that when you haven't heard from them all day. After you told them the news about Jimin, you kind of didn't care about your comm. Your entire body goes stiff at your thoughts. Great, thinking about Jimin again. This is exactly what you need right now.
"Y/N?" Jungkook asks, stepping in front of you. You shake your head, trying to get out of your thoughts. "Y/N, hey, look at me," he says, resting his hand on your cheek. You feel dizzy, the entire world around you seemingly collapsing. Is all your trauma finally catching up with you? You managed to escape it for most of your life, but after everything, how are you supposed to feel alright? Even if Jimin wakes up, what are the odds he doesn't have a permanent injury? What are the odds that he remembers everything? Will this past month mean nothing?
Your doubts continue to clog your mind, but Jungkook's voice brings you back. "Come on stay with me L/N, I'm not letting you go, not now."
You gasp, not realizing just how badly you needed air. "I'm here... I'm here." You nod rapidly. "I'm here."
"Good, we need to find Kai, see the status and if there's anything we can do."
You nod again. "I'll save my breakdowns for after today."
"I'll be here for you when you have them, okay?"
You agree, too numb to cry at this point. "T-This is a big bunker, should we split up?" you ask. Jungkook seems hesitant to leave you. "Koo, I'll be okay."
He meets your determined eyes, and his expression softens. His hand stays on your cheek, his thumb brushing over your skin soothingly. "That's my girl... meet back here in ten with whatever we find?" You hum, then look up. You're right next to a red emergency light, a sign that reads 'Section B:3' right under it. "Section B:3, got it. Ten minutes on the dot," he whispers. He gives you one last look before reluctantly pulling away.
You watch as he walks away, going deeper into the bunker. You sigh and do the same, traversing through the crowd. Most don't spare you a second glance - you're honestly fine with that. You don't want to be noticed right now. You keep walking, observing the concrete bunker as you go. There's many bunk beds set up along with tables for medicine and other necessities. You frown. This is pointless, you'll never find anyone.
Regardless, you don't give up. For Jungkook's sake you can't. Thinking about Jungkook only makes you more depressed. What's he hiding from you? Why did he run away? You can tell it's something big. The last time he hid something from you was when he got kidnapped from Mars. He must be trying to hide it so it doesn't upset you. Truth is, that upsets you more. You shake your thoughts away, deciding to look around once again... and that's when you see him. You blink rapidly, trying to process if that's really him. Is that... Yoongi?
You push through the last remaining figures blocking your view, and although they grumble at you, you don't even glance their way. You take in the short man's form, his head turned to the side as he looks around the area. You're not sure what he's looking for, but you don't really care at the moment. He's okay... he's actually okay. You stifle your whimper and step closer, now only fifteen feet away. "Min Yoongi!" you call out. He jumps, then snaps around. His eyes widen upon seeing you. You smile brightly, laughing as you start to close the distance. He does the same, a dumb smile on his face. What happens next, however, shocks you.
Yoongi hugs you.
You're thrown into shock as the man engulfs you in his arms, and you can't help but chuckle and return the embrace. It's really nice, but not exactly what you would have expected. He pulls back, giving you a gummy smile. "You have no idea how good it is to see you."
You return his cute expression. "I was about to say the same to you." He ruffles your hair, causing you to fake a scoff as he shakes his head, laughing. This is definitely strange. Why is Yoongi being so... cute? "Okay, are you suffering from blood loss or something?" you ask, inspecting his body for wounds.
He makes an 'mm-mm' sound, "I'm just really happy to see you."
"You're looking for Jungkook, aren't you?"
"Maybe."
You smile. "It's okay, I don't take offense. He's here, we split up. Is Seulgi with you?"
"Yeah, everyone's okay. Hoseok got injured, but he's stable."
"He got hurt?"
Yoongi gives you a small frown. "Yeah, a Goliath got him. If he wasn't wearing his armor he'd probably be dead."
"Well, good thing for armor then. Can I see him?"
"Of course. Right this way." You follow him deeper into the bunker, and to your surprise, the entire gang is there, including Kai. They're gathered around one bed, where Hoseok lies, asleep.
"He'll be okay, he got lucky. I'd give it ten days until he's good to get back to activities. Keep him light for now, and keep taking these," Kai explains, handing a bottle of pills to Seulgi.
She winces, then nods. "Thank you, Kai."
The Governor slightly bows. "My pleasure. Thank you for turning the tide."
You approach, eyes wide, and Seulgi spots you. "Y/N, oh my God," she says in a gasp, approaching you. "Are you okay? What happened?" she asks, standing right in front of you. You're about to reply with 'I'm okay' when you lock eyes with her pleading ones. She doesn't deserve a lie. You let your tears fill your eyes. "Oh no..." she whispers, and your tears fall.
"First Jimin, now Kook is lying to me... then..."
She leans forward. "What? What is it?"
You have Kai, Jin, Yoongi, Baekhyun, and Taehyung's attention now, but you don't even care. You need to tell them. "They're dead. My brothers, my mom, my sisters... Jasmine. They're all gone and I-I... I-I..." You try to form words, but you can't. Seulgi immediately embraces you, and you softly cry in her arms, grabbing at her shirt. She sighs, rocking you back and forth gently. You can't bring yourself to tell them about Alice yet, so you keep it to yourself.
To your surprise, another weight gets added onto you, adding to the hug. Yoongi. You look at him in shock, but he simply shushes you and drifts closer. Then, another weight. Kai. You're shocked the governor gets in on this, but you're not complaining. After another few seconds, Taehyung hugs you from behind. Jin and Baekhyun join in as well, and a group hug is formed. You laugh, biting your lower lip as more tears fall down your face. These people are the reason why you keep fighting. It'd mean more if Jimin was here, but having your crew hugging you, all safe? It moves your heart. For the first time in days, you feel alive again. This crew really is your family.
"We're holding out here until Earth arrives, is that okay?" Kai asks, but before you can answer, a man comes rushing over.
"Sir! Sir!" he exclaims.
"What is it?" Kai asks, furrowing his brows.
"It's Earth..." he starts, the man's eyes wide, "they're here."
Everyone goes into shock at that statement. "W-What? We still had several hours left-"
"I don't know how sir, apparently when they didn't hear from us they activated their new boosters and cut the time down."
Kai looks so relieved it honestly warms your heart. "Holy shit, we're saved."
"They're right outside the city, their military is ready to fight back."
Kai looks around, then gives you a determined look. "Who's ready to clean up the city?"
You look back and nod. "Always." Kai smiles, turning back to the man.
"Let's reclaim Ganymede once and for all."
~18:00~
Yoongi stares down at the city, feeling lost and confused.
He did a lot of things today, a lot he didn't think he would. After Earth and Ganymede teamed up and stopped the Goliath threat once and for all, Y/N informed them on a new type. Looks like Ganymede isn't out of the clear yet, but they'll be more prepared next time. Until then they can drive out whatever's on the verge of breaking in. The civilians are going to stay on the ships they were assigned to. Smart plan, Yoongi can't really argue with it.
The dome got repaired for the most part, the oxygen steady again. Yoongi stays on the roof of the military tower, looking at the men crowding the streets, doing their sweeps and cleaning up the mess. Ships fly down the roads, collecting the corpses of the Goliaths and dragging them out of the dome. Yoongi sighs, shaking his head. What has his life turned into? He's not complaining necessarily, but he still isn't sure what the hell is going on right now.
He feels bad for how rash he acted today. He made harsh decisions he normally wouldn't. He still hasn't heard anything from Alice, Anya, or Sapphire, which is making him worried. Yoongi hopes they're all safe in the sky, but as lead researchers, they're probably supposed to be down here. Why he hasn't seen not even one of them worries him. He's worried about everything right now. The state of Ganymede, his friends, Jimin... Jungkook.
Y/N mentioned something about Jungkook lying to her. Yoongi can't help but sigh. He thinks he knows what it is. Speak of the devil - Jungkook walks up next to him. Yoongi's slightly shocked by this seeing as the tower's empty. He only came up here to be alone, maybe think of more lyrics to write when they get back to the Moon later to do repairs. However, he accepts the company, especially since he has a lot of questions to ask the boy.
"Are you okay?" Jungkook asks, causing Yoongi to grunt.
"I should be the one asking you that."
"I didn't mean to run away, I wasn't thinking. I'm sorry."
Yoongi somberly nods. He'll pry later, for now, he needs to know the basics. "How's Y/N? Honestly."
"Horrible," Jungkook says. Yoongi glances at the boy in concern. "She asked me to kill her. She didn't want to live."
Yoongi's eyes widen. "Shit..."
Him and Y/N may not have talked too much, but she's a determined and brave woman: anyone can see that. Her, Jimin, and Jungkook keep the crew glued together. Having one in a coma, one in depression, and one who's lying will lead to problems. How's the crew going to react to that? Seulgi and Hoseok will have to step up if they're going to keep pushing forward. Yoongi shakes his head, burying his face in his hands. Everything is falling apart. Literally everything, and Yoongi can't help but feel at fault even though he didn't do too much to cause it. Other than his rash actions earlier, he didn't do anything, but he still feels guilty.
"Jungkook..." Yoongi starts, but the Executive interrupts him.
"It's a beautiful night, isn't it?" he whisper-asks, his eyes focused on the sky.
Yoongi looks up with him, noticing how the stars are shining particularly bright today. "You know what? It really is." He decides not to go right in, he simply goes quiet. Jungkook knows that Yoongi knows, but he doesn't point it out. Yoongi stares peacefully at the sky for a few more moments before looking at Jungkook, who goes stiff under the man's tense gaze. He needs to know for sure.
"You're dying, aren't you?" Yoongi asks, his voice barely above a whisper. Jungkook's eyes fill with so much pain it nearly breaks Yoongi. He even takes a step back, processing Yoongi's question. A single tear rolls down his cheek, but he doesn't even glance at Yoongi.
"Yeah... I am."
As soon as the words leave his lips, Yoongi feels tears swell up in his eyes. "How long?" he asks, although he fears the answer. Jungkook takes a shaky breath, then finally looks down at the shorter man. Yoongi goes still, his tears falling with Jungkook's as he speaks.
"I don't know."
Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
A/N: Soooo the chapter title was referring to Jungkook. Plot twist. Uh. This chapter is... depressing, and I'm really sorry. Starting and ending with two of the most depressing sentences I've ever written. "He's in a coma" and "You're dying, aren't you?". Yeah... rough. Long chapter, but worth it imo. Took so many hours and late nights to write, but I think I got it down. I trimmed a lot of the fat, this was originally going to be longer than All Good Things, but I want that chapter to stand out for a little while longer, so I'll let that keep the throne as longest chapter for now.
Regardless, this chapter left me emotionally drained since Jimin doesn't make a single appearance, and that makes me sad. Very sad since he's my favorite (both bias-wise and just in this story). Anyway it's like 1:14 am I need to sleep. Goodnight everyone! Don't cry too much!
