A/N: Most of this chapter is just Jimin panicking. Enjoy!
~21:03~
"How long until we reach Ganymede?" a male voice asks as consciousness retakes your body.
"Not too much longer. Those new boosters are working excellently. Fifteen minutes at most, but our pilot suspects more like ten."
"Good, remember to rig our clearance codes in case their emergency forcefields aren't up." You hear footsteps echoing off in the distance, and you keep your eyes closed, instead trying to listen.
You let your feelings come back: your fingers, your legs, and your arms. You feel like you're tied down, but that isn't surprising. You're not sure what to expect, but you really hope Jimin's realized by now that you're missing. He won't leave you. You wouldn't leave him.
After another two minutes of you sitting there, trying to listen, you hear nothing. So, you slowly open your eyes. You're in a dark room, the lights are off, making everything look almost... black. You look around in confusion, adjusting to your surroundings, when you realize you're in a wooden chair, tied down with rope. You didn't think wooden chairs existed anymore, which is what initially shocks you. You look up and see Jackson standing in front of a wooden table. More shock fills your body. What the hell is he doing?
The only way you're getting out of this is by hoping Jimin, Jungkook, or Yoongi come to get you. You're not sure what's happening with Jungkook, you're not sure if Yoongi would come back to get you, and you're not sure if Jimin's safe or not. So, looks like for now, you have to stall. You decide to stay quiet as he plays with some test tubes, some needles also scattered around the table. You watch for another two minutes, him in his own world. He softly hums to himself, playing with different color liquid.
"Have you ever felt the rush of adrenaline enhancements give you?" he suddenly asks, and you're left confused. You don't answer at first, which causes him to sigh. "Oh yes, I know you're awake. I don't need to see you to know that. Now answer the question."
You bite your lower lip, then nod. "I have."
"I figured. Having a friend like Jungkook would lead to that kind of thing. You and him must be really close. Enhanced individuals rarely risk themselves to give someone else a boost of strength. Not to mention the whole stunt you pulled earlier... tell me, how did you pull him out of my control?"
That you don't bother answering. You simply roll your eyes and tug at the rope, but of course, it's no use. "I'll get the answer out of you eventually. For now, tell me more about enhancements. How did it feel when he gave it to you?" You figure there's no point of resisting: you're not going anywhere. Plus, the point is to stall, and making him angry won't do you any good.
"I felt so powerful. I suffered a gunshot wound earlier, and I undid the stitches. I couldn't move, but when Jungkook transferred his energy, it was like I never got shot at all."
He sighs in satisfaction, "The glory of enhancements. They bring you great power."
"But at a price," you remark, which he shrugs to.
"Pain, yes. That and bright cheeks. A small price to pay to be superhuman. Have you ever seen any other enhancements?" You decide not to tell him about Yoongi, but instead, about that leader who seduced you with his voice.
"I have. I was captured, like this, and some guy started speaking to me. I couldn't resist. His eyes were glowing green."
"Everyone's color is different. Mine is dark green, if you recall from our little fight earlier. You killed my best scientist, by the way."
"He deserved it," you mutter, looking down at the floor. He doesn't reply to that, he simply hums for a few more seconds before carrying on.
"The seduction enhancement... so powerful. Probably the most powerful one there is. I bet he got whatever he wanted out of you."
You shake your head, "He didn't, actually."
He freezes, then slowly turns around. "What?" he asks, a scowl on his face.
"I managed to resist."
"You?" he asks, shaking his head in disbelief.
"At first, it was impossible, then I snapped out of it."
"How?"
You sigh, then softly smile. "He called me something. Something only one person should call me. That's what broke me free."
Jackson seems disgusted, "You break yourself out of an enhanced spell, and then Jungkook... impossible. I don't understand."
You know you have to stall, but you can't help but hiss. "Of course you don't. You wouldn't. Enhancements are all artificial. Everything about you is artificial. I brought myself back out of love, and I brought Jungkook back because of love too. You wouldn't know about that though." He snarls, but you cut him off. "But you could." Surprise fills his eyes. "We have so many outsiders in our crew, and each one has blended in so nicely. You could be the same way," you try. You mean every word. Jackson seems like a troubled man, and whenever you see someone in trouble, you feel the need to help.
He pauses, genuinely thinking about it before he seemingly snaps out of it. "Nice try, but I have a duty to protect the Belt."
You sigh, "I'm sorry then."
"For what?"
"That you won't know what love is."
His left eye twitches, "I've made it this far, haven't I?"
"Is that a good thing?" He seems irritated by your constant remarks, but you don't really care. "Living without love - whether it be family, friends, or a partner. Doesn't that get repetitive? Just researching enhancements and starting wars?"
"I'm sorry, who broadcasted groundbreaking information about who blew up your precious transport vessel?"
You look down. He's not wrong, but he still started a war with Ganymede. "That was between Earth, Mars, and you. Not Ganymede."
"Well Ganymede isn't exactly a nice place either. I figured you of all people would understand that the most."
You let out a deep breath, "I do. But it's still my home. I'm still loyal to it, no matter what. I have to help my people. I don't understand why you brought Ganymede into this. Isn't it Earth and Mars that cast you out?"
He nods, "They did, but why bother sending valuable resources to start a war with them when they're going to destroy each other? Ganymede is the only civilization that could potentially be a threat to us. So that was the best play."
"But all those innocent people dying... why?"
"Innocent people die every day in the Belt. Lack of food, supplies, medicine and no one cares. Tell me why no one helped for all these years? They didn't even notice that we were getting stronger that's how little attention they paid to us. We built an entire empire right under their noses. The weak old Belt couldn't do that nooo. Not possible. Their arrogance will be their downfall..."
You grit your teeth, "So will yours."
Before he can respond, the door opens and light pours in. A scientist steps inside, giving a polite bow. "We're two minutes out from Ganymede. Our pilot requests you on the bridge."
Jackson hesitates, looking at you for a moment, then nods. "Alright. Keep two guards posted outside. Where's my experiment?"
"We put him in the main lab sir."
"Is he still sedated?"
"As far as I know."
"Good, when we're on the surface, I want to give him another dose... I want him to be mine again," Jackson whispers before walking out, closing the door behind him.
Oh no no no fuck! You have to get to Jungkook before Jackson does. You can't lose him again. Luck helped you the first time, giving him an 'I love you' speech won't work again, you know it. Your hands are tied, and you shimmy to get them out. It doesn't succeed as expected, so you lean down on your right one and bite into it, loosening the strands of rope. You pull and shimmy, your hand going numb as you continue to gnaw on the rope. Eventually, it weakens enough that you can barely squeeze your hand through. You grab the knife you hid in your chestplate and cut your other hand and both your legs free. You let out a breath. Phase one complete. Now you have to somehow overpower two guards and find the main lab. Piece of cake.
You crouch and approach the door, letting your hand grip the knife while your other hand hovers over the door controls. You take a deep breath, then press it. The first leg you see you stab. He yelps in shock and falls as you jump on the next one, the force of your body bringing him to the ground. You stab him in the chest then whip your head back. The other guard is reaching for his pistol, but you throw the knife and it lands right in his skull. You resist the urge to throw up and instead grab the knife, closing your eyes and pulling. You pretend that you hear no sounds as the knife departs the man's head and instead decide to push aside your nausea.
You hop up and grab his pistol, not surprised that your AR and your pistol are missing. After letting out a breath you holster the new weapon and keep your knife in front of you. You really don't like guns, but you'll use it if you need to. You run down the hall, not bothering with being careful, and you meet two turns. Right and left. You pant, then decide to go left since you (mostly) know what's on the right already.
All you do is run and run. Clearly most of this ship's crew is on the bridge, overseeing their descent to Ganymede. Regardless you keep an eye out just in case. You find several doors and burst through them, but only find empty quarters. You groan, going back down the hall until you find a single door, with no one around. You're suspicious to say the least, so you slow your approach and pull out your pistol, clicking off the safety and keeping your knife in your other hand.
You slowly walk to the door and press your ear up against it, tuning in. You hear a hushed voice and mentally prepare yourself. On this mission you've killed three people. Each time you think about it, you get sick to your stomach. Even in self defense, you hate it. You never want to have to do it again, but you know you have to in a few seconds. You mentally prepare yourself, taking a deep breath before opening the door and bursting inside.
There's two scientists and two guards inside. You shoot twice, hitting both guards in the back before they have a chance to turn around. The scientists jump and start to shake, throwing their hands up in defeat. "We surrender!" the first one, a tall brown-haired male, claims. You shoot a warning shot. He flinches. The other one seems calmer, but not by much: he's still trembling.
The lab's rather small, screens active all over the place. But you don't care about the surroundings. You care about Jungkook, and seeing his unconscious body on a white table makes you feel disgusted. "Whatever you have him hooked up to take him off, now!" you hiss, and they obey, taking the tubes and wires out of him. "How long until he wakes up?" you ask. They shrug.
"We don't know, it could be minutes or hours. We were keeping him sedated until the boss came back with his injections." You keep your weapon on them. You don't want to kill them, but at the same time, if you let them go, they'll bring the entire ship over here. You pray Yoongi and Jimin are safe. Maybe letting them bring the entire ship here is a good idea, so Jimin and Yoongi have a chance to escape.
The ship rattles, and everything wobbles, nearly falling over. "What the hell was that?" you ask, panting and getting back on your feet.
"I-I don't know," the first scientist claims.
You look up at the ceiling, and the lights flicker. "It's almost like the ship moved suddenly..." you whisper, then your eyes light up. Is this Jimin and Yoongi's work? Are they on the bridge? Fighting? You softly sigh, smiling. You look over at Jungkook. His body has no more wires or tubes, but he's still strapped to the table. You watch his unconscious body for another moment before turning back to the scientists and giving them a tight smile. "Stay still... the three of us are going to have a nice talk."
~21:08~
"This is a horrible idea," Yoongi says.
Jimin shakes his head, wiping another tear away. "If she's alive, they have to be keeping her on the bridge. There's no where else to put her."
"Jimin, I understand you love her, but shouldn't finding Jungkook be our top priority?"
Jimin sighs, "Yoongi, if they took Y/N, my guess is Jungkook is with her. You saw that room, you saw those papers. You're supposed to have the intelligence enhancements not me how did I draw that conclusion faster than you?" He pauses for a moment, giving Yoongi an apologetic look. "I'm sorry, I'm just..." he trails off, looking down.
"You don't want to lose her. I wish I could understand that feeling, but I don't. Still, you have my sympathies."
Jimin looks up in shock, "Yoongi... you know that staying with the crew? You might get to feel that feeling." Jimin steps forward despite them being in the middle of the hallway. He hesitates, then places a hand on Yoongi's shoulder. The older of the two looks at it in confusion, then meets Jimin's eyes. "Maybe you can feel it with me."
Before Yoongi can reply, loud footsteps are heard echoing down the hall. Jimin crouches down, and Yoongi stands tall, positioning his AR to shoot over Jimin's head while Jimin keeps his AR level. When no one ever comes for them, Jimin figures it's because they're heading towards the bridge like them. The idea of losing Y/N... he can't even begin to comprehend that. He misses every part of her. He's never felt this type of fear before. Every cell in his body is screaming for him to find her. Losing Namjoon was hard enough, but her? He wouldn't be able to function.
"Let's move," Jimin whispers, keeping low and alert. He pushes his fear out of his mind temporarily, thinking about the mission. If Y/N's alive, he needs to find her, and to find her, he needs to be focused. It's this single thought that keeps him moving. Jimin drifts down the hall and makes the left turn, Yoongi right on his tail. He almost wants Yoongi to talk to him. He needs some kind of distraction, but the older man isn't good at talking, so he sighs and starts a conversation instead.
"Did you ever think about visiting Earth?" Jimin whisper-asks as they carefully traverse, looking around each corner.
"Not really. I always worried about the moment, not the future. I did dream of being anywhere other than Kepler, but Earth was never a destination I craved to go to. I've always liked Mars. Maybe Ganymede. The trees on Earth though, I'd love to see them one day." Jimin hums in acknowledgement as they approach the bridge. They hide behind the wall, peeking over. The hallway leads down to the bridge, and there's no door, just one large opening into the giant room.
Jimin's eyes widen. It's pretty big. There has to be at least ten people in there. It's like a big square, several people tapping away at holograms. At the end of the bridge, there's a giant staircase that leads up to the cockpit, where a single pilot is sitting, his back facing them. He's almost too far away to see, but Jimin has good eyes when he needs to.
"What's the plan?" Yoongi asks.
Jimin scans over the area, "I say we just do it."
"What?" Yoongi asks in disbelief.
"Only half of them are armed. If we take out that half first, the other half will be easy."
"Jimin, that's still a lot of people."
"We can handle it."
"Physically maybe but what about mentally?" Jimin freezes at that, looking back and meeting Yoongi's eyes. "I know I can... but what about you?"
He hesitates, then nods. "For Y/N."
Yoongi searches for a sign that Jimin may be lying, but he finds none. "Okay. Lead the way, I'll cover you."
Jimin doesn't really like the idea of going in guns blazing, but he has no other choice. There's no element of surprise here. He can't take them out one by one. They're fortunate that only half of them seem to be armed, and the first row of tables are unoccupied, so they can use that as cover. He's not sure how heavily armed the guards are though. They could have grenades, although using them while on a spaceship isn't wise seeing as... well, explosions aren't exactly good in general, but in space they're even worse.
Without giving himself another second to doubt himself, Jimin whips his AR forward and shoots twice, hitting two people in the head. Yoongi opens fire, missing a few shots at first, then hitting two guards in the chest. Jimin rushes forward as Yoongi shoots, covering him. He slides to the nearest table as bullets whizz by his ear. He pants, trying to remain calm as the bullets keep coming. Yoongi pulled back and stopped firing, hiding from enemy fire, and Jimin doesn't blame him.
The shots are all coming from Jimin's right side, so he sneaks over to the left and takes a deep breath before sitting up, resting his AR on the table and scanning for hostiles. He finds three in the corner, using a table as cover. He waits patiently as they reload, probably not seeing him propped up against the table due to the hologram in front of him. It slightly blurs his vision, but it definitely blurs theirs worse, so he doesn't mind. One pops up, and Jimin takes him out. He misses the first shot, but hits the next. The others panic and look around, trying to locate him, but Jimin ducks before they can find him.
Yoongi rushes to the table as well, and Jimin sneaks forward. There's a small gap between his table and the next one, so he takes another deep breath, then rushes between the gap. Some shots whizz by once again, but Jimin is still unharmed. The pilot seems to be panicking, focusing on getting to wherever he's going rather than the fight. He's probably hoping that Jimin and Yoongi won't get to him. He's very wrong in hoping that.
Yoongi fires, and Jimin hears hisses and yells as the bullets speed out. Jimin groans as he undergoes fire, staying as low as possible. "I'll cover you," Yoongi says loudly enough for Jimin to hear. Jimin glances at Yoongi, who motions to the pilot. "What the hell?" a male voice says from the entrance. Jimin looks up to see Jackson standing in the doorway, eyes wide as he takes in his surroundings. Jimin pays no attention to him, he simply gets up and starts running as Yoongi follows through on his words, blasting away at the one man remaining.
Well, there's three more technically, but as Jimin runs he blasts at them. They were standing near the staircase, guarding the pilot. They weren't expecting Jimin's run, so their shock was their downfall. They fall over as Jimin hits them in the chest with his bullets, and he rushes up the stairs to the pilot. He enters the cockpit as the pilot aggressively turns around, prepared to fight. Jimin clicks the trigger, but nothing comes out. His eyes widen as the pilot smirks and jumps out of his seat.
Jimin throws his AR around his body as he steps back, dodging the man's punch and instead grabbing his shoulders, bringing him back down onto the seat. They struggle, Jimin trying to choke him, but the pilot fights back, grabbing at his face and trying to claw at his eyes. He groans as the pilot scratches his cheek, and he leans over, pressing on the yoke, sending the ship in another direction. The ship rattles, causing Jimin to get thrown off of the pilot. He grabs the joystick and sets them back on course. Jimin looks out the window and sees Ganymede, and his eyes widen. They're dangerously close. They're about to enter the atmosphere.
Jimin fumbles with his holster, trying to grab his pistol when the pilot jumps forward again, this time knocking Jimin to the ground. The pistol slides across the floor. Jimin yelps, trying to land a punch, but nothing is working. He struggles for a few more moments before eyeing the pistol, only a few inches away. He reaches for it with his hands as the pilot starts to choke him. He coughs and gasps for air, reaching desperately for the pistol. His fingers scrap over the metal, his vision becoming hazy, but he manages to drag it close enough to fully grasp it.
He instantly brings it up to the pilot's head and whacks him off of him. The pilot whimpers and falls to the ground. Jimin coughs, panting for a moment, then he clicks off the safety and shoots the pilot in the head before he gets a chance to move. He breathes heavily, looking down at Yoongi, who has Jackson at gunpoint, everyone else dead. Jimin sighs in relief, then looks around, looking for Y/N. When he sees no sign that she's around, he growls and stands, about to head down the stairs when the ship rattles once more.
Jimin nearly falls over again, but manages to stay mostly on his feet as he walks over to the pilot's seat and sits down, strapping himself in and putting his pistol back in his holster. They're burning up in the atmosphere, and the main dome comes into view. What Jimin assumes is the emergency forcefield is up, which means they can slip right in. The problem is Jimin has no idea how to fly, not to mention they're coming in way too hot. Jimin panics, thinking of how to ease up. He grabs the joystick and tries to ease up, but it doesn't work very well. The ship is moving too fast.
He gulps, making sure he's fully strapped in and braced before calling to Yoongi. "Brace yourself! We're going down!" Jimin yells. He doesn't hear a response which worries him, but the fact that they're about to crash worries him even more. Jimin chooses to focus on that. He watches as they descend, the surface coming closer and closer. He keeps his hands steady on the yoke, still trying to reduce speed, but nothing is working. He really wishes Y/N was here right now. She could help him, reassure him that they would be okay. He would sit in the co-pilot's seat and watch as she struggles to get them out of this situation. He keeps his eyes on the approaching ground, Y/N's face the only thing he can see. Then, impact is made.
And everything goes black.
