MysteryThrillerIN - Home Sweet Home
What a busy week this was! It was a Friday night and unlike others who are always out with friends - my friends are k-dramas and webtoons. What a typical 25-year-old female I am...
Speaking of which, I was told my package arrived yesterday but weirdly enough I saw nothing out my door.
"Who took it?" I asked myself.
I then decided to check the video doorbell to see what happened yesterday.
"OMG," I said.
Some stranger entered my house and according to the video, this person never left! I looked towards the staircase.
"Time to find out," I said, motivating myself despite my intrusive thoughts telling me to check the house for the stranger.
But what if it turns out to be like those horror movies where you have to run away from the serial killer?
"Hello?" I called out. There was no response.
"Come out now!" I threatened.
This won't get me anywhere...
I took an insect racket. I didn't want to do this, but who knows what could happen?
I went downstairs and searched the kitchen, then the backyard. There was no one.
"Weird, maybe he went through the window?" I asked myself.
I then decided to go back upstairs and into my bedroom to fully check again. I opened my wardrobe and bathroom. Surely this stranger was hiding himself pretty well. But there was one more place to go:
Under the bed.
I took my racket, and slowly crawled under the bed, ready for anything to come out. I lifted up my duvets, and some tall figure crawled out. I moved back fast, breathing heavily and trying not to scream. I was ready to jump on him until I realized...
"Home sweet home!"
It was Arthur—my old classmate.
Why would he sneak into my house like that?!
"Arthur?!" I exclaimed.
"Hey, Adri. Missed me?" Arthur asked.
"Of course not!" I exclaimed. "How could you sneak into my house like that?!"
"Would you have let me in if I asked to come over?" Arthur asked.
"This is my house we are talking about," I said. "Now spill it."
"I saw your delivery package yesterday, and since it was about to rain, I decided to rescue it - be grateful I put your package inside," Arthur said, pointing over the package on my desk. "Man, you still haven't changed - be sure to lock your doors when you head out... people other than me can enter."
"You put it there?" I asked skeptically.
"Yeah, don't you focus?" Arthur shot back.
"For your info, I have been a very busy person and I only managed to relax as of today - but no, in fact, you spoiled it for me! I had to run with a racket around the house for you to show up out of my bed and tell me you delivered my package. Give me a break," I said.
"Care for a takeaway?" Arthur asked.
"This is my house, and I am not buying you anything," I said.
"I will do the buying okay? Let's head downstairs----"
I cut his words short.
"Just... keep quiet. Will you?" I asked, annoyed at how he was making himself comfortable in my house!
We went downstairs and I threw myself on the couch and pondered over the current event. Arthur, my classmate just came out of my bed in the name of "package," he is ordering takeaways as we speak and who knows what more to come?
A few minutes passed and our delivery was here. He ordered two large pizzas and 2 liters of ice cream. He came and sat down next to me in the living room.
"You surely are at home," I said.
"You can't even welcome your old classmate after 5 years? I am disappointed Adri," Arthur said.
"You walked into my house, hid yourself under my bed - you know what? Let's not even talk about this," I said, pinching my nose.
"Listen, I am sorry to creep you out like that - consider it April Fools?" Arthur pouted.
"Yeah, like I believe you," I said, opening the pizza box and digging in, taking the huge slice off the box.
"Look at you go!" Arthur exclaimed.
"Just leave me alone Arthur," I said.
I turned on the TV to find my favorite mystery thriller show, "Traitor In Disguise" playing.
"Right on time," I said, loud enough for Arthur to hear.
"You love the series too?" Arthur asked.
"Wait, you are a fan too?" I asked, surprised that Arthur even has a favorite series.
"I always thought you were the workaholic," I said. "I guess I misjudged you."
"You did," Arthur replied. "What episode are you on?"
"Episode 3. You?" I asked.
Who thought Arthur out of all people, would be in my house?!
"Same. Let's watch, we wouldn't want to miss any details right?" Arthur said.
I nodded and we both turned to face the TV. I had so many questions to ask him.
"Ask," Arthur said.
"What are you talking about?" I asked.
"I know you want to ask me questions, so go ahead," he said.
"Okay. Question 1, where do you live?" I asked.
"You really live in your own world I see," Arthur said. "I am literally your neighbor!" Arthur exclaimed.
Everything slowly started to click.
"Oh! Arthur! I was very busy! I didn't even have time to focus on leisure other than work until today. You moved in... two weeks ago right?" I asked.
"At least you still remember something," Arthur muttered to himself, loud enough for me to hear.
"I have eyes and ears," I said.
I elbowed him on the arm.
"Don't you know how to exit using a door?!" I exclaimed, still upset over what he did.
"Yeah, and I am sorry, okay?" Arthur pleaded once more.
I rolled my eyes and we looked back on TV. I heard some crashing sound upstairs. Art and I looked at each other.
"Let's go check it out," Art said.
We went upstairs and I saw my books on the floor and someone holding his head in pain.
"Who are you, and what are you doing here?" I asked.
He looked at our position and looked straight at Arthur, smiling.
"Ah, so you found her, huh?" he asked.
I looked at Arthur, trying my best not to erupt in anger.
"You brought an accomplice too?!"
