2 MONTHS LATER

The little happy moment Dustin Henderson, Juniper McKennan and, especially, Eddie Munson were having was cut short soon afterwards.

They were faced with reality once more.

One last time.

They had gathered by the rope made out of curtains and blankets, spears and shields in their hands, awaiting the arrival of the bats.

Eddie signaled that the younger two had to come and stand back-to-back with him, so they did. The trio stood in some sort of triangle that had eyes on every side of the trailer while slowly walking in circles.

"Hey, dipshits!" Dustin yelled to the bats outside, "Give up that easy, huh?!"

Eddie shushed the boy, causing him to be quiet. In the meantime June just rolled her eyes, "You had to ask, didn't you?" she asked.

"Yeah, is that really necessary?" Eddie added, agreeing with June. Their heads twisted to the other side after hearing clattering coming from the rooftop, "They're on the roof." Eddie theorized.

June unconsciously hardened her grip on the spear she held in her left hand. You might wonder, why the left? She was a leftie, that's why.

"Shit. Shit. Shit." Dustin cursed.

The two boys walked closer to where the sounds were going, "Oh, seriously? You're walking towards the sounds?" June complained, she's seen way too many horror movies for this.

The creaking and rattling continued, Dustin spoke up, unsure of his own words, "They can't get in through there, can they?"

And just like that, one of the bats found an opening and came in sight. The trio yelled at the top of their lungs, "You're cursed, Henderson!" Juniper screeched in a high voice.

In response, Dustin started jabbing his spear through the hole, hoping to hit the bat and actually kill it, "Die! Die!" he exclaimed.

Eddie looked to his side to a helpless June standing there, not knowing what to do, and decided to help his friend. He joined in on the jabbing of spears while Dustin continued screaming, "Die! Die! Die!"

In the meantime, June was to keep the other sides in her eyesight. She leaned against the door, feeling the bats trying to break their way through it.

The two friends continuously jabbed the hole in the caravan where bats threatened to fall out while - yes, they actually did this - screaming on the top of their lungs.

Eddie eventually stopped, looking around startled. June became worried by the expression he had on his face, "Eddie!" Dustin yelled, still stabbing, "I need you!"

Eddie, instead of helping his younger friend with killing vicious bats, grabbed his shield from a table on the side, "Get out of the way! Get out of the way!"

He pushed June to the side while Dustin did the same. Eddie ran forward with his shield in the air and - yes, this again - while yelling. The shield covered the entirety of the hole and sticked in the roof because of the nails hammered in them.

The three panted, "Holy shit. Holy shit." Eddie exclaimed.

"Smart." June complimented Eddie's actions.

"Thanks."

June finally felt the bats leaving the door and she felt safe enough to stop leaning against it. She cane forward, leaning on Eddie's arm. The trio gave each other high-fives, "Are there any other vents?" Dustin asked, finally a little more calm.

"Oh, shit." Eddie mumbled. He jumped off of the higher platform he'd used to get to the roof and started running to his room, "Shit!"

"Where are those things?!" June panicked. She was not ready to die. Not yet.

"Shit, shit, shit, shit." Dustin cursed.

They weren't in the room yet and the vent burst, dozens of bats coming through at once. The swarm flew around the room, but couldn't escape before Juniper shut the door roughly.

Eddie brought the younger two back by putting his arm in front of them and sprinting backwards, it wouldn't take long before the door would crack.

Dustin grabbed June's wrist, pulling her back while Eddie grabbed Dustin's spear and shield to cover for them. He wouldn't let anything happen to the two people closest to him. He just couldn't.

Dustin gave the cracking door another glance, "That's not gonna hold!"

"Yeah, no shit, Sherlock!" June yelled back. Even though they stood next to each other, they yelled. Not because they had to - okay, maybe because the adrenaline made them scream. It was like a habit.

"Let's go! Let's go!" Eddie screamed. June gave Dustin a push for him to be able to climb faster to safety, "Come on, quickly!"

Dustin climbed and climbed until he fell on the mattress on the other side. The safe side, "Eddie! Juniper, come on!"

Eddie gave June a look that said she had to climb, so she did. She climbed to the other side, this time she fell on the mattress on her butt. The speed she had to climb with caused her to not pay attention to the distance.

Eddie started climbing shortly after her, but in the middle of the rope, he stood still, "Come on, Eddie, climb!" June screeched, her nerves taking control over her voice.

"Eddie, you're so close! Eddie, let's go!" Dustin added. But Eddie made up his mind differently. He realized the only way for him to save his best friend and the girl he loved was for him to distract the bats further, "Eddie."

He held onto the rope before running off to grab his spear again, despite June and Dustin's cries for him to come back and climb. As he yelled, Eddie sliced the rope in two with his spear, the rope falling into June's hands.

June's lip trembled, looking at the boy throwing the mattress to the side and knowing that, at this moment, there was nothing she could do. It didn't take long before she felt a tear going down her cheek.

"Eddie, stop! Eddie, stop!" Dustin tried, but Eddie had already made up his mind, "Stop! Stop!"

"Eddie, what are you doing?!" June belted, at this point her voice had broken completely and she was sure that tomorrow she'd have a sore throat.

Eddie took his shield and spear back in his hands, he looked up to the two calling out for him, "I'm buying more time." he replied, winking at Juniper.

"No, don't!" June tried one more time, she had to watch Eddie leave her sight without him changing his choice.

"Eddie, please!" Dustin tried as well, but Eddie left their sight as quickly as he came into their life.

June snapped her head to all sides, she saw a table with a set of chairs next to it. She wasted no time to grab a chair and place it under the hole.

Juniper jumped onto the chair, "Help me up there." she ordered Dustin. If Dustin had a better chance of getting through, she still would've gone herself, to protect Dustin.

Dustin did as told and helped by pushing her closer to the roof, June got a hold of both sides of the hole and hoisted herself up as fast as she could.

Once she was in the other dimension, she fell to the other side. Due to Eddie having got rid of the mattress she fell flat on the cold, harsh floor, but it didn't matter. She had to get to Eddie and nothing else mattered.

"Stay there!" she commanded Dustin.

"No!"

"Dustin, I said stay there!" June repeated, "I'm not telling you twice!"

She started running and didn't stop running, though she would not have had any idea how far exactly Eddie biked. For some reason, she knew which way he went, she just did. The swarm of bats only confirmed her feeling.

The swarm was surrounding a figure June couldn't make out, but she knew who it was, "Eddie!" she yelled on the top of her lungs. He could never have heard her, but she yelled none the less.

Far, far away, the figure kept growing and growing because of how fast Juniper was running. Seeing him in the midst of that only gave her more energy. The figure got taken down by the bats, but June couldn't see what was happening. He was still too far.

She came running so fast, but still, it wasn't fast enough for June. It was as if the distance kept getting bigger after coming closer.

And then, she was finally at the edge of the swarm. But her heart shattered in a million pieces when she saw what was happening. Eddie was displayed on the floor with a dozen bats biting in his flesh, he yelled an agonizing scream, full of pain.

Juniper did the one thing she could do, she screamed, she belted harder than she ever had and it seemed to have worked. Loud thunders erupted in the Upside Down and with that, the bats dropped dead to the floor.

June continued running towards him, falling down to her knees next to the bloody boy. The bats had ripped his stomach open everywhere and blood dripped from his blood, he was choking in his blood.

"Oh, shit." she cursed at the sight, "Shit, shit, shit."

"Bad, huh?" Eddie sputtered.

June wiped the fresh blood from his cheek, "No, sweetie, we just have to get you out of here, okay?"

Eddie agreed and the two of them tried to get him off the floor, but soon enough Eddie knew it wasn't going to work, "I think.. I think I just.. I think I just need a second, okay?"

"Take the time you need." June carefully put his body back down and supported his neck with her arm in attempt of bringing him as much comfort as she could.

A smile creeped up on his face, "I didn't run away this time, right?"

"No, no, no, you didn't." June's cheeks were wet of tears, "You should've, you're cuckoo."

A single tear rolled down Eddie's cheek, June caught it with her finger while sniffling, "I think.. I think you're cuckoo for using the word cuckoo."

June sobbed like a maniac at the sentence she'd heard many times these past days, "You're just flabbergasted by my vocabulary."

Eddie gave a small smile, "I'm actually going to graduate." he tried chuckling, but it got soaked up by the blood in his mouth, "I think it's my year, Perry. I think it's finally my year."

He struggled getting his words out, but there was only one more thing he needed to have said, "I love you, Perry, I have always.. loved you.."

If tears hadn't yet been flowing over her cheeks, they were now. He loved her. He fucking loved her. Eddie Munson loved Juniper McKennan. She wanted to reply, but the chunk in her throat stopped her from speaking.

And before she could reply, Eddie's head fell in June's hands, his body going stiff. He's dead. June sat there with his dead body in her arms, "Eddie, please." she sobbed, "I love you too, please, wake up, I love you too."

She didn't know how long she sat there with his cold body in her arms, hugging him, his head laying lifeless against her chest.
