two. why are you here?
Mia being completely unaware if there would be cleaning supplies, she kind of went overboard, there were two gallons of Clorox, three sprays of windex, a new broom, brushes and sponges, masks, gloves, everything needed, and if there were supplies at the pizzeria, then all this shopping will be a perfect excuse to keep them home.
She turned her eyes to looked at the wall clock, it was almost midnight, thirty minutes past eleven to be exact, so she needed to pack every supply she thought she would need, her belongings, her Walkman and grab something to eat before heading out. Something easy was made, a ham and cheese sandwich with chips and berries on the side, very childlike food but honestly, Mia found comfort in this type of snacks and such, it brought her back to the happy memories of her childhood.
Heading out with the lunchbox, the bag with supplies and her stuff, the brunette was ready to leave, her eyes noticed the house across the street, Mike's place, his car still outside, she only hoped he could find peace again and stability, shaking her head to remove her thoughts she got into her grey Volkswagen she took the piece of paper where she had wrote down the address Steve Raglan had given her, she recognized the street names, perhaps even the place but it was a faint and vague memory.
"This looks like a dump." Mia whispered. She had arrived at the abandoned pizzeria, the sign was off, no hint of lights inside, just the bright yellow movement light outside that flashed a few times.
Getting out the vehicle she shut her car door, gripping tightly on the strap of her bag, her eyes scanned around for another car but no one had arrived, the lock was still on, and that's the moment Mia cursed everything, she should've asked for the guard's phone number or something, to make sure they would be here. As she looked at the sign something felt uneasy inside her stomach, an awful feeling, she couldn't ignore it.
The loud sound of tires breaking behind her pulled her back into reality, her gaze looking back to that familiar car she saw as she left her home, and the same person she thought of was out the car.
"What are you doing here?"
"Why are you here?" Their words echoed in unison as the looked at each other, confused by their presence.
"You're the security guard now?" Mia questioned, Mike's head nodded in response. "That's nice, good for you." Mia didn't know what to say other than the words that were out of her mouth.
"And you're the janitor? Honestly I am not surprised, you do love cleaning and keeping things looking shiny." Mike said as he walked over to the locked gates of the entrance doors. "You bought stuff?" He asked noticing the bag in her shoulder.
"I don't know if they have supplies inside or maybe someone already broke in to steal them, you know, I wanna be prepared." She answered, adjusting the strap on her shoulder, being careful with the products inside. "Do you think it would be messy inside?"
"For your own sake and happiness, I hope it is since you will begin eagerly, if not well I'll make a mess for you to clean." Mike chuckled at the end, Mia just laughed softly, her heart warming up at the moment between them, memories already flooding back into her brain. Then an ash of sadness took over, things were not the same anymore.
"Hey, I never apologized for what I said yesterday." Mia said, clearing her throat ready to apologize.
"Don't you worry about that Mia, really, it's not that big of a deal."
"It is, I mean, we finished things messy from the beginning, I overstepped into your privacy again, and that's wrong, I shouldn't—"
"I said it's fine, just drop it, we can try and put it on the past, we are going to be working together, the last thing we need is for this to be uncomfortable." Point taken, the brunette just pressed her lips together indicating she wasn't going to talk on the subject anymore.
It had been an awful fight that led to their breakup, and Mia til this day, blamed herself for it, she had taken it too far by bringing his past into the picture again, she had opened Mike's wounds. I am here, Garret is not. She should've kept quiet, but a broken heart speaks louder.
"Steve told me about the place and where are the light breakers and everything, he said the light system kind of sucks so." Mike said, and boy he was right, as they entered the place, it looked sad, dull, lifeless.
"Well this is giving me the creeps." Mia whispered as she looked around, she noticed the game area on a far corner, the tables set, a prize counter, different stages, everything that would be heaven for a child. "I'll go and find someplace to put my stuff, you can start searching for some switch or something to brighten up this place." Mia walked taking the lead, she heard Mike's voice just answering back with a yes boss.
Mia walked through a hallway, blue navy walls painted and decorated with posters of the restaurant, a band of animals with instruments, and the yellow words she saw outside Freddy's Fazbear. There was Freddy in the middle, behind him as by his sides a yellow chick on his left and a blue bunny on his right, and just behind them a pirate fox, a little smile creeped on Mia's face as she saw the poster, the animals that childrens saw everyday when they came here.
Going back to her goal she walked away from the poster and into the first door on the left where it had a sign that said Security, she opened the door to notice the variety of small tv's on the desk, consoles and a larger but still small box tv on a stool, and by the right there she saw it, lockers, Mia headed straight to the only one open, she scanned for roaches or bugs to kill or even the dead ones to just remove and place her stuff inside. With not a bug inside her belongings stayed, except for the cleaning supplies she grabbed out and her Walkman, it didn't take long for the room to brighten up, meaning, the lights were still functional.
"Thank god." She whispered and headed out the security room back to the main area, she saw Mike but he didn't say anything towards her, ignoring him back she headed towards another hallway she scammed door and doors, the hallways became darker and the brights colors were now yellow tones that made Mia feel uneasy, she looked behind her and around her as she kept on hearing small sounds. But nothing was there.
Ignoring everything she opened the door with the wide janitor sign on the outside, it was dark and only a string was connectect to the lightbulb, Mia stretched her arm out but it was useless, she wasn't tall enough to get it. She set the supplies on the floor beside her, she was unaware if there was space on a shelf or something.
"Dear Lord give me the strength and balance to not fall on my butt as I try to jump." She sighed and took a deep breath in, a jump and a stretched hand towards the light, unsuccessful Mia huffed and looked up again, another deep breath and another jump, finally her fingers grasped on the string to pull down, illuminating the room. "Oh, this is horrible." She said as the room was small, everything was scattered around and it felt even claustrophobic, a chill rushed down her spine, an uneasy sensation of being seen.
Pickup the supplies up she set them in a space, she grabbed a vacuum and made sure it worked correctly, glass cleaner and towels, she was gonna start easy today. Mia headed back to the security room where Mike was looking at the cameras, curiously she walked towards him.
"What's that?" She asked when her eyes notices a VHS with Mike's name on it.
"I don't know." Mike grabbed it quickly and placed it inside the VHS machine, the TV in front of them started with upbeat 80s' music and a cheerful woman appeared with colorful uniform.
"Welcome to Freddy's Fazbear Pizzeria a magical place for kids and grownups alike, where fantasy and fun come to life. If you're watching this video it means you've been selected as Freddy's newest security guard."
"Is there no janitor introduction video or something?" Mia joked, earning from Mike a slight chuckle. The video kept on playing giving some backstory of the creation of the place and the animatronics that were used and how they were able to move around the place, for a moment when the woman was about to introduce them the TV signal was interrupted, but by a freeze image and loud static that was off, Mike hit the TV on the side a few times before the picture returned and the woman kept on talking, perhaps a video issue.
"That's not scary at all, right?" Mia chuckled, her fingers scratching the back of her head for a second. "I'll be cleaning around, I'll make sure this place looks good." Excusing herself Mia headed back to the main area, she looked around, where to even start, there were a lot of areas she could clean and wanted to clean. "Okay, the prize area could be a good start." She said to herself placing the Walkman over her ears and the radio hits cassette inside, letting the music drown her in.
Mike followed along after a few moments, Mia noticed as the flashlight blinded her for a few seconds, she began with cleaning windows and glasses, a few glances back and forth towards Mike who was just continuing to look around. She could ask for more light, a switch to be turned on but, she didn't want to talk, she was just getting into the zone.
"Mia, hey." Mike shouted out, getting no response from the brunette, he waved his arms, but she was glancing down at the counter, the amount of objects and their prices of tickets. "Mia, earth to Mia." He screamed louder, that faint sound was what the female heard and she finally looked up. "I'll be in the security room, just walk in or shout if anything happens."
Mia just gave him a thumbs up, finally some time alone she would have to continue and make the place look a little bit more presentable, she let the music drown into her ears as she wiped glass counters, windows and prizes taking their dust away, she swept and vacuumed the floor and carpet where she would see dust accumulated, and oh boy, the dust she saw.
When it felt like minutes had passed Mia turned to look at the wall clock and two hours had passed already, trying to take stains out of the eating tables had consumed most of her minutes away. With her stomach vibrating she knew she needed a very well deserved break, placing her stuff aside she wakes back to the security room, her eyes shifting to see Mike sleeping peacefully, resting his arms on the desk, his head placed to his side as he rested it on his arms.
"Wow, what a great security guard." She said to herself, Mia walked over and gently shook Mike, calling his name a few times, but no response, he was in a deep slumber, her eyes looking around to notice the small sleeping bottle, she recognized it immediately, and with that, Mia knew what Mike had done and was doing. "Well this looks like it's my turn to look after the place." With a deep sigh she grabbed a chair from a corner of the room, bringing it close to the camera area and close to Mike, just in case.
Time passed by, Mike kept on dreaming, with the occasional shiver, whimper or groan that he made from the dreams he was having. Mia's eyes tried their best to shut down but the brunette jumped around the room, sang, and even cleaned inside the room to keep her eyes open, there were no movements or noises that would pull her attention, the night had become boring even, and for the worse, she did manage to fall asleep, the lights outside were bright as if the sun was coming out, but what caused for her to open her eyes, had been a noise behind her.
"Shit, hello?" She said standing up from her chair. "Mike, I heard something, hey." She shook his body again but no response. "Mike?" Placing her index finger on his throat, she felt his pulse, a relieved sigh left her lips and turned back to the hallway outside the security room. "We have weapons, and I got Clorox, and I'm not afraid to use it." Mia shouted out, her eyes shifted back to the lockers, the sound of scattering was coming by from there.
With careful steps she walked towards the lockers, her heart was beating fast, she hoped no animal or insect would jump and attack her, or at least scare her to death. Standing in front of the first to her left, she opened it, nothing, only Mike's belongings. Second locker, nothing either, her hand gripped onto the third lock, opening she jumped on her place, a small figurine of a puppet holding balloons in his hand scared her.
"Not to be offensive but you're one scary and ugly looking little fella." Mia said and closed the locker, finally she opened the last one and the one with her belongings, but nothing was there. Whatever the sound was, it had vanished, or at least for the moment it had.
"Garret, garret." Mike's voice startled Mia, she turned around noticing Mike's body shivering harder than before, the whimpering had become louder as he kept on repeating his brothers name. "Garret, no." He repeated.
"Mike, it's only a dream." Mia said hoping Mike's unconscious could hear her. "It's only dream, you can wake up."
"No, no." Mike groaned loudly, Mia didn't know what to really do, the only solution she could think of was turning him around and wake him up, this time, aggressively. Mia turned the chair around, calling his name louder, what Mia didn't expect was for Mike's body to react, to answer back, falling from the chair, face first into the floor.
"Oh my god, Mike, Mike, are you okay?" She asked kneeling beside him.
Mike took a few seconds to fully wake up, his watch going off on the 6am time, he looked around his brown eyes stopping to see Mia's worried expression.
"Yeah, just a bad dream." He slowly stood up with the help of the dark haired girl. "We should start leaving, pick your stuff up." Mike ordered, he turned around to check on the cameras. "Don't tell anyone what happened, please."
His words were worrying for Mia, they sounded like a beg, as if something terrible could happen is she said something, but Mia wasn't going to ask what was wrong, it wasn't her business and she knew Mike wasn't going to tell her, it could be personal. So all Mia did was nod in response and leave the room to pick the cleaning supplies and leave them in the janitor's room.
When things were settled, and everything was shut off, Mike and Mia left the building, both standing outside and looking up at the pizzeria sign.
"Well, I guess I'll see you tomorrow." Mike said and began to walk towards his car.
"Hey Mike." Mia called out, the attention of his on her. "Your secret is safe with me." She smiled softly, Mike smiled in return, a small but thankful smile.
She worried for him, even if things had ended messy between them, Mia worried, she worried Mike was falling back into a dark past, and even though she knew he disliked her, Mia would be there, for anything.
ngl, I hate this...
