❝Love is living in a world without death
Life is nothing without love in your head❞
Love in Your Head
~The Black Box Revelation
- - -
Katherine Violet Gilbert's life was not very monumental. Not really, but we all know the universe has funny ways of revealing it's antics in the form of Salvatore brothers and new triggering powers. It's been a month since Kat's powers had kicked in. Surprisingly, and not so surprisingly, Damon Salvatore was the one to point out how conveniently close Vicki's death and Kat's powers were. She could hear sounds all around her, see brighter, speed around faster than the brothers. After convincing her sister that she wasn't a vampire, it had taken Kat days of practice to zone out all the unnecessary sounds and get over the death she caused.
Stefan makes a surprisingly effective mental counsellor.
He had helped her deal with all the super-hearing, the super-speed and the magnified guilt while Damon stood on the sidelines as if he were a drunk chaperone.
Presently, Kat enters the Boarding House with a hurried air on her face. "Broody I'm here!" she settles her bags down with a huge smile making her cheeks ache. It's his birthday. It's Stefan's birthday.
She had taken a bit of help from Caroline to keep her head and plan something very special for her vampire friend's birthday. Sure, she might be overstepping. But she had nothing better to do and Stefan's birthday was the best way to keep her powers at bay.
A blonde comes hopping down into the parlor but stops short when she sees her "Huh? Wha... Um, who?"
".... Wonderful to see your feminine form Stefan" Kat raises her eyebrows, taking in the girl's outfit, or lack thereof. She's wet and showered, only a towel wrapped around her. Something hot rockets through Kat's throat, costing her all her resolve to not let it manipulate her into a fit of snarling.
"Uhm...? What?" the new woman blubbers with confusion. Based on her low heartbeat, she was a vampire.
Arriving at the conclusion that Stefan had slept with the blonde, Kat pasted a weak smile, "I'm Kat" She hears water running upstairs, so she thought that the bunny muncher had finally done the impossible- chucked her sister.
"Katherine?" Sexy-Girl-In-A-Towel frowns. Her finger was still hovering in the air as she gawked her eyes off at Kat.
"I'm gonna kill him" Kat rolls her eyes, rushing upstairs into Stefan's room where he stands with nothing but a towel wrapped around his waist.
"Stefan!"
For a vampire, he sure was oblivious until she barges in. Jumping up, he rushes behind into his bathroom door with a shout, "Vivi! Wha-What are you doing here?"
"Wait, this is your Vivi?" Stefan's lady friend comes in with crossed arms over her bustful chest that her towel barely hung onto. Her glare was accusatory, drawing holes into the wooden door from behind which Stefan's mop of wet hair peeked.
"Lexi." they hear him groan in resignation. Both the girls roll their eyes, Kat holding out Stefan's shirt from the crack he peeps out from. A while later, he comes out shyly, running a hand through his hair, towel still around his waist. Kat wanted to slap herself to look away, but she just couldn't tear her eyes off him.
His plaid shirt hung over his shoulders, buttons left open as they offered a clear view of Stefan's hard-abed torso. They looked like they could have their own story of pining girls.
Even Tyler didn't have such abs and his were the most hard earned in all of Mystic Falls.
Towel Girl's throat clearing brings Kat out of drool-land. Before either of them can speak, Stefan cuts them off in a rush, "I can explain!"
"You better." they grumble out.
"Wait!" Kat squeals as he takes a step. She looks around and throws him his pants, palms over her eyes.
Lexi snorts unamusedly when Stefan tells her to open her eyes. Now fully clad and towel in hand, the Salvatore vampire scratches his forehead as if he was a 5-year old trying to make an excuse for missing candy.
"Now..." he raises his hands in surrender, "Before either of you kill me, I can explain"
"I'd hug you, but I'm pretty sure Lexi here wouldn't like that" Kat bites her lip. She didn't know what got into her, but she was trying to squash it down before she lost another friend.
Both Stefan and Lexi frown, eyes soon widening as they stutter.
"We're not!" - "I'm not his-!"
Kat gasps, an inexplicable light feeling taking over her gut, allowing her to relax. She wordlessly slumps down onto his bed with a small mumble.
Lexi, however, feels far from relived. She glares at her best friend, "She's Katherine?"
"She's Lexi?"
"Both of you!" Stefan slides between them, "Lexi- this is Vivi, she is my friend-"
"-best friend."
"I'm his best friend!" Lexi almost pounces past Stefan, only to be restrained calmly.
"She's not who you think she is," he speaks over them, sending Lexi a warning gaze, "And Vivi, this is Lexi, my oldest friend."
"Oldest friend?" Kat narrows her eyes at Lexi.
"Best friend?" Lexi narrows her eyes just as quickly.
"She's also Elena's twin sister," Stefan puts in.
Lexi's eyes could have bulged out if her nerves hadn't been holding them back. "Oh, um, El-Elena? Twin, oh my god, I-I'm sorry Vivi, I- uh gotta go..."
"Kat." the Gilbert corrects. 'Vivi' felt foreign coming from anyone other than Stefan. Only he got to call her that.
Silence follows, making Lexi's eyes furt around to Stefan's.
"Aw-kward" Kat hums, pocketing her hands with a bouncing head.
"Well, no problem Kat. I'm gonna go get dressed, see ya around"
Lexi stomps off and Kat turns to Stefan with narrowed eyes, "So you really haven't...?"
Stefan blinks, not really getting her question. She clears her throat with suggestive eyebrows "...you know?"
"Geez Viv, get your mind out of the gutter!" he shudders with a vigorous shake of his head. He could never have such a relationship with Lexi. She was the closest he had to a sister and she'd helped him through the darkest of times. Kat falls back onto his bed with a selfish groan "And here I thought you were having fun unlike my twin"
Honestly, a cruel corner of her mind wanted Stefan to get over Elena. But she should have realized sooner that he'll always have a school-boy crush on her twin.
"Well," Stefan sits beside her, putting on his watch, "What's wrong with Elena?"
"Now come on! No moping on about what Elena or who Elena, it's your birthday! Happy birthday Broody!" she squeals into his ear, making him flinch.
"I thought your hearing heightened too" he croaks.
She smacks his head with a glare, "You did not just go there"
"Sorr-"
She vigorously pokes his shoulder like a cathartic exercise, "You did. not. just. go there!"
"Okay okay! Don't mention the unknown supernatural part, noted, hey!" he catches her swinging hand again in protest, "I said noted"
She takes a satisfied breath "Good". She runs a hand through her pocket but doesn't find what she's looking for. Frowning, she checks the other pocket of her jeans "Where was i- oh thank God, here."
Stefan looks down into his hand to see a small thing shine yellow "What's this?"
She beams with childish pride, "It's a small stone I found when I was little. I was digging through the old Gregor property back in the forest with Caroline. I realized it's your birthstone so..."
Stefan shakes his head with a small smile "Um, I can't take this..."
"Sure you can"
"I don't really do gifts"
"Your best friend, right here," she waves up to herself with a perky smile, "is a gift. C'mon Broody! It's not everyday a guy turns a hundred and sixty-two years!" she pulls him up, catching him as he staggers sluggishly.
"Really?" he rolls his eyes. When it came to willful nagging, she was no different than Lexi.
"Pwease? Or I'll call Elena" she snatches the stone back immediately, holding the stone back as she whips out her phone threateningly.
He slips the crystal back into his palm with resignation, "Fine lady! Geez, how will I deal with you both at the same time?"
Lexi comes into view at the same time. Her previous glare had morphed into a warm smirk and she had fortunately traded her earlier attire to don a darker more complete outfit of jeans and a T-shirt.
"So... Kat, how about a clean slate? I'm sure Stefan hasn't told you a lot about himself."
"Vivi... no..." Stefan's eyes widen in terror.
The Gilbert girl's lips tug up a bit as she leans into his ear, "Really?"
"Really, please no."
"Then Vivi definitely yes" she smirks, raising her eyebrows at Lexi.
Stefan was going to have to go through with either of the two things tonight:
Option A - get the shit humiliated out of him
Option B - get the shit humiliated out of him
