he smiled as he looked at his left foot, hanging over the ledge.

he took a deep breath, counted to three over and over again, getting ready to jump.

it was my fault.

i deserve to die.

his breathing was shallow and quick paced, because he was scared.

but he was ready at the same time. there was no ambivalence; only hesitation. he was going to do it. he felt his feet leave the ledge and waited for the impact, but instead, he felt two strong arms wrap around his waist and pull him backwards.

this isn't how it goes.

when his shoulder hit the rough concrete of the rooftop, anger came first, but resided when he saw jimin's face.

yoongi was reduced to nothing but a shaking, crying mess.

his sobs wracked through his body austerely because he knew he had hurt jimin in a way he shouldn't have.

"i- i'm so sorry," yoongi gasped out. "i- i wasn't thinking straight. holy shit, i'm s- so selfish. i sh- should have th- thought about-"

"hey, sh. it's okay. it's okay. i'm here now, and you need to be worrying about yourself, okay?" jimin hugged yoongi close to his chest, feeling once more the frailty of him.

when yoongi calmed down a bit, they sat down together against the wall, side by side, looking straight into eachother's eyes.

yoongi smiled, and jimin smiled back; that ineffable smile where his eyes crinkled at the corners into little crescents.

"i'm glad you came," yoongi said. "i didn't think far enough to realize that if i died, i wouldn't be able to see your smile anymore."

"i'm also glad i came." jimin brushed his stray hairs from his face. "almost thank you."

"almost? that isn't even grammatically correct."

"almost, because i can't believe you tried to do that," jimin said. "but you're still here. so that makes it okay."

yoongi laughed. "alright then; almost thank you too."

"why the almost?"

"just sounds right."

celestial space was all that was between them and their heartbeats and their breaths.

it was almost perfect, because there is really no possible way for anything to ever be completely perfect, but yoongi and jimin that night looking into each other's eyes was just so, very close to absolute perfection.
