It was World Cup. At one o clock at night, The Musketeers and The Bad Boys united together to watch a match between Brazil and Argentina. Sajed fixed the antennas and replaced the food tray with a Standard Definition colored medium-sized television. As it was the time, where the city had less traffic. Sajed and Delwar have decorated the bamboo-styled carpet. The Musketeers supported Brazil, while The Bad Boys supported Argentina. The last of the bunch, The Little Rascals sat on the middle of the bunch, especially Shehzad and Jamshed.
Television was switched on and after five minutes of commercial breaks such as Cadbury Chocolates, Pringles Chips, Pepsi Blue and an old movie trailer, the match started with the players on the line and reciting their respective national anthems. Until, the real game started, Brazil was tackling Argentina by the striker-Ronaldo.
"All Hail Ronaldo! Put your best shot, like Pele!" screamed The Musketeers, especially Hablu, Ehsaan and Arhaan.
But when Argentina aggressively played the match, one of them by Batistuta. Saad and Anthony screamed "do it! You're a great one!"
Both scored their respective goals but both scores were almost equal to each other. Hence, both were having the intense time of their life. Humayrah, on the other hand was looking at Ehsaan enjoying the match. She joined with the Musketeers that almost made the Bad Boys uncomfortable. She was also enjoying the match but little did Ehsaan knew, both his parents were Brazil supporters.
The electricity fluctuated. It's raining cats and dogs, but never gave up watching the match. Sajed covered the whole shop with a thick rain-proof cloth. Despite being so dark and no electricity, the television was still switch on with generator and antenna. Finally, a penalty shot arrived. Everyone was under intensity. Who will win the match?
It was a heart-sweating moment. Until...Brazil scored twice in the penalty. The Bad Boys were overly sad and crying like a child, whereas the Musketeers along with Humayrah were overly-joyed by the situation. They were dancing the old World Cup theme songs, despite organized by Korea. After the rain stopped for a while, Sajed and Delwar arranged some khichuri, while the old hag-Khadijah showed up. Her anger was over-the-top.
"What's the scream all about? Can't we sleep early?" screamed Khadijah.
"SHUT UP, KHADIJAH! YOU'RE RUINING THE MOOD!" said Mrs. Ahmed with a smile.
Khadijah calmed down while looking at Humayrah. She respected Humayrah a lot during their school days. Sajed might be a school dropout or a matriculation pass, but he didn't really want to end up with a brat like Khadijah. In front of her husband, she's a whiny bitch but in front of someone respectable like Humayrah, she was a calm human being.
"Guys, enjoy the meal" said Humayrah calmly, without even creating the drama.
Shehzad saw the calmer side of his mom for the first time. Humayrah-Ehsaan's mother was one of the few people she feared and respected of. During their school time, she punched Khadijah for backbiting about her dad. The trauma inside her gave some respect, as in some aspects Khadijah didn't learn her lesson from the past.
Hablu said "Ehsaan, your mom's a badass".
"But let's not forget how you changed 'The Bad Boys' to 'Good Guys'"said Arhaan.
"Well, since you're with us, it's really a positive feeling, but don't forget to take me to the other wedding crashes" said George.
Here, Ikkhon was eating the food that angered Hablu.
"Hey, Ikkhon, have you forgotten the boiled fish curry with gourd, as prescribed by your parents?" snapped Hablu.
"Hey, watch it, buddy!" said Ikkhon.
"He's a kid, don't worry about it" calmly said Arhaan.
"A Kid huh! I'll make him a Billy-goat" said Hablu.
All of the people laughed at the situation.
The next day, as the school closed, The Musketeer were walking into another school, only for girls. It was quiet, foggy and no people in the field. It surely was a conservative area. Hablu was scared and hid under Arhaan's back, with his body shaking. The sky was dark but it wasn't night time. The school looked like the haunted house.
"Why so scared, Brother Hablu?" asked Ikkhon.
"It's...spooky" said Hablu.
Ikkhon suddenly saw a girl of their age who was walking out of the school, upset. Ehsaan had his eyes wide and instantly recognized her. Even Hablu and Arhaan realized that she changed the school...though it was few months ago. But the unsettling expression toned down the experience.
The girl looked at Ehsaan, hugged and sobbed. It was quite awkward for Ehsaan to handle, despite hardly knowing each other, less than a school acquaintance. He softly said "What happened? Mayesha?"
Mayesha, the girl who was just admitted with Ehsaan. But due to her mother's passing due to cancer, she was admitted to a government school. Since then, her life changed to something that might turn The Musketeers' life to an experience like never before. Little did the 'Musketeers' knew, their life would be going to change forever for better, or worse. She was sobbing so much that the gang couldn't help but melt down their heart, preventing them from the usual self.
"What's going on?" said Hablu, a bit irritated with the emotional point.
The rest hushed him. Mayesha has calmed down and she stopped hugging. She slowly got off and fixed her emotions. On that case, she just wiped her tears to a normal state. A headstrong girl from school, turning into a sad, emotional wreck for definitely something to be told.
"Since I came here, I couldn't like this place!" said Mayesha.
"How? What happened?" asked Ehsaan.
"After mom passed... I left school, but my aunt admitted me in such that the head-teacher was first appeared to be nice. But later, I found out that, he was violent with those who were above sixteen. One day, our classes dismissed, bell rang and we got out. Like every day, I saw him, dragging a helpless girl who was begging for mercy. On her gripping arm, blood spilt on the corridor floor. Every one of the class ignored. He was worse than Mrs. Trunchbull from Matilda.
Until, I ran onto him, biting his arms but that psychopath threw me away but the girl ran away from him. Then that creepy Principal chased us. She ran off the school and I hid behind the field. Distracted by the bell, he left" said Mayesha.
"Then?" asked the Musketeers.
"He complained and lied to my father that I didn't bring my homework. No one in my family believed me about the reality. Because most of the girls in my class are silenced; and never wanted their school to be tarnished, as it was hugely reputed one" said Mayesha
Hablu's mind was about to get flashbacks. The images of being a rebel have surfaced of men marching with the protest boards and medicines running on the table. Despite the headache, he controlled himself. The headmaster with his worst attitude with women sounded familiar to him.
"Anyway, what's the headmaster's name?" asked George.
"Ghalib Mustaqim" said Mayesha.
Hablu was under shock but couldn't recall something that may help him more to the past. It was vague, yet important. After that, he said "hmm...that guy surely sounds like the ones in the newspaper articles, back in 1997".
The rest of the 'Musketeer' including Mayesha were surprised, having their mouths wide. Hablu wasn't usually sharp regarding 'world news', but that was on a whole new experience. Even Arhan couldn't resist that issue.
"And the mysterious part is...no one could go to Mustaqim sir's room" said Mayesha.
"Well, that will be up to us to handle this crap, shall we?" said Hablu.
"But we can't do this..." said Ehsaan.
"We can do it! We are Musketeers. One for all, all for one" said Arhaan.
"But how?" said Ikkhon.
"We got a plan" said George.
Mayesha became the unofficial member of the Musketeer gang, just for the time being. It was quite an exciting opportunity to meet those characters, whom she considered as mythological beings. In reality, they're only common people coming for help. Slowly and steadily, they went to an abandoned library, beside Mustaqim's room. It was covered with spider webs and books.
They heard two girls who were weeping like ghosts who were present. It scared the crap out of Hablu. But Arhaan patted his shoulder to comfort him that, quickly gave him the ease of bravery. They made him believe that the leader shouldn't be a coward.
Arhaan reached the two together in the midst of the library.
"Hey! Are you okay?" said Arhaan calmly.
"Do we look okay?" snapped one of the girls.
"We mean, what happened over there?"
"Yesterday, the girl who was dragged to Mustaqim sir's room, killed herself...last night" mopped the other one of the girls.
"I'm sorry to hear that" said Hablu.
"She was not only a brilliant student but also a wild girl, until Mustaqim Sir came. At first, he made one of the girls of our class, blind with chalks, now this! The authorities are not taking any actions ever since" said the two girls, calming down a bit.
"Something's really fishy, there" said George.
"Fish? It's more than that! Like a stale fish curry" said Ikkhon.
The girls unveiled their faces. They looked beautiful than their age and identical, clearly no differences, except for their cheeks and one of them has a tiniest mole. Ikkhon only watched these kind of beautiful faces in the movies. But little did he understood that some people were the best ugly ducklings. It'll make sense for the other four members of the gang, except for Hablu-despite seeing things he refused to grow old with it. Everyone is a kid at heart, some do not understand it.
Thus, the twins have introduced themselves as Sifa and Safa. George just saw the spot in one of the twins, plus the voice and immediately erased his confusion towards them. Nowadays, he was reading detective books such as The Three Investigators (Tin Goyenda), Sherlock Holmes, Nancy Drew and more. Hablu sometimes used to tease him for reading it, and persuade him to play sports or have a hangout with them. Until now...
"Wow! George, surely your detective skills did surely make it!" said Hablu.
It surprised the other members of the gang, especially Arhaan who thought of himself as the smartest. Whereas, George was brilliant on his own terms. Furthermore, 'the science of deduction' stated by Arthur Conan Doyle, partly influenced his style, as a detective. Maybe, it would take him into the future roots. Perhaps, George has gotten the idea of something strange that may seem to be on its way.
"Arhaan, we need your desktop" said George.
"For what?" asked Arhaan curiously, while sitting in the college's swing.
"For the internet. I noticed Hablu's anxious issues, regarding Mustaqim Sir's antiques" said George.
"It's a bit of a strange connection" said Hablu, weirdly.
"As my parents will be out, you guys can come in" said Arhaan.
Interrupted by the twins, they said "We have the internet, though a slow connection, it may work".
"Don't you girls disallow boys to your own house?" asked Ehsaan.
"No, totally. Our parents are like-minds, not some mumbo-jumbo conservatives" said the twins.
Mayesha got excited to get into the plan of action with the gang, along with her twins senior. Now, the mystery became an important moment, whilst, using internet was new to its term, George learnt about it when Arhaan was using a computer. It was while, he knew the news of the conspiracy theories regarding UFO.
Hablu delivered his catchphrase 'De La Grande Amour'
While the rest of the gang united their hands and said 'Yak Yak!'
At night, Hablu was walking with his new Walkman, listening to Old Bengali songs of Kumar Biswajit, Happy Akhond, Kishore Kumar and international pop music such as Michael Jackson, Celine DIon, Bob Marley, Elton John, Ricky Martin and so on. He was grooving with situational moves, along with the gang who was staring at his enjoyment with it. Mayeesha smiled, looking at the handsome Hablu, but quite confused with Ehsaan who wasn't attracted to her.
Anyway, walking together near the twins' house, they showed up and hosted them with food. But Hablu couldn't control his 'food temptation', he was about to eat all. But kept patience, when the ladies stopped him to eat. At first, Safa turned on the computer, while her parents gave her an internet modem access code.
George typed 'Ghalib Mustaqim' in the Yahoo search engine, as Google was entirely new at that time. Even Youtube wasn't released yet, that's why they streamed videos from the official sites, as well as 'Yahoo Videos'. Despite the slow internet, many of the articles and videos flashed out in the browsers, including the ones in the newsprints. One of the important news was from the year 1997:
HEADMASTER OR MONSTER?
By District Page, Daily Star
DHAKA: A professor from 'Dhaka Medical College', accused for fraudulent and abuse, has escaped after the police raided.
Ghalib Mustaqim, 53, has escaped from 'Dhaka Medical College', leaving his cabin abandoned. His former student, the renowned pharmacist, Dr. HOS Waqil have stated Mustaqim's crimes regarding sexual harassment and girl child pornography.
Now, the police has raided his cabin, as well as his whereabouts. As the detective investigated the situation, evidences have been burnt.
"Dr. HSO? Looks like a difficult source. But we have to sneak onto his room regarding new evidences" said George, unlike his usual childlike tone.
Arhaan realized that, they could sneak into the room at midnight, as he forgets to lock the door. Ehsaan, Ikkhon and George agreed, whereas Hablu on the other hand was eating food a lot. He couldn't control his hunger but the twins fell in love with Hablu's good looks and charm. Mayesha politely snapped "Ahem! Give him a break, please!"
