October Entry 5

I have homework for the first time this year. For my homework, I have to write a short story for my creative writing class. The short story has to be about a child and a tragic experience they have to go through.

Desiderium: anire ardent longing as though for something lost

"Oh I got one!" The child's soft golden hair floated behind her as she ran across the soft green grass chasing round, soapy bubbles. She is the definition of innocence. "I got another one!" Her face lit up with joy as she popped the bubble between her hands. The girls father laughed right along with the girl and proceeded to blow bubbles for her. She continued to leap and spin through the grass catching bubbles in her small hands and popping them. The father blew an extremely large bubble and both father and daughter watched the bubble rise straight into the air and slowly float down into the outstretched hands of the awestruck girl. She stared at her reflection in amazement.

"Daddy why can I see myself?" She asked.

"Well, the bubble reflects you like it's a mirror." The young girl continues to stare at her reflection in awe. Then, without warning, it pops.

"Daddy!" She screams.

"It's ok," the father starts calmly. "It was just a bubble, just like the rest of them." The girl starts crying, tears streaming down her face. "Honey what's wrong? Why are you crying?" He sits down and pulls the girl into a tight hug.

"I killed the bubble." She screams through her sobs , "and it'll never come back."

"That's true, it won't ever come back. But we can always make more." The girl stops crying suddenly.

"Daddy?" She asks.

"Yes my little princess?"

"Can we come back out and do more bubbles tomorrow?" She smiled at the end of her question.

"Yes of course. And every day after if you'd like." The little girl skipped up the path to her house closely followed by her father. Both of them couldn't wait for the next day to come

The President of the United States of America sat at a long table, covered in various foods, occupied by the leaders of the world. They were meeting about what to do about a certain terrorist group but decisions were not being made and tempers were rising quickly.

"You said it would be ready for tonight," the President stated.

"Yes, well... it's not..." a very worried looking young man replied.

"I am well aware it is not," the President said, his tone rising.

"You'd do best to keep your calm, or else," a woman shouts from the other end of the table.

"Or else what?" The man across from her inquires. There were various mumbles throughout the room. Not everyone understood the exact words of what was being said but the context was quite clear.

"Yes or what?" The President laughs. "What could you possibly do to me?" Of course that simple question set off the entire war as seemingly simple questions do. The room was now in uproar. Everyone was fighting everyone else. Chairs were flying as well as food. Somebody shouted "fire!" And then there was silence. The fire burned bright behind the woman.

"You will pay dearly for what you have done." The woman gave one final look at the President of the United States of America and walked out.

"Dear I just remembered I left the soap and bubble wand outside. Would you mind getting it for me?" He gave her a kind smile, the type that lightens ones entire face so, of course, she jumped into her father's arms with an equally large smile and said,

"Of course Daddy. I love you so much!" And she raced out the door to grab the bubble want and soap.

"Love you always," her father calls out the door after her.

The girl skips down the front path and through the green grass to where the wand and soap lay. She leans over to pick it up and turns to look at her house. Then she picks up the bubble stuff and walks back towards her house.

The largest planes she's ever seen fly over her house. One of them drops something nearby and then there is an earth shattering explosion.

"DADDY!" the girl screams, but she is too late. The houses nearby were on fire and now their house is burning too. "DADDY!" the girl shrieks again. There is a second explosion, this one collapses the house. The girl falls too the ground clutching her wand and soap to her chest. "Daddy," she sobs quietly. She lays on the ground and continues to cry until the third explosion. The father's dead and burning body comes flying out of the house towards the girl. She stares at it in shock and cannot look away. A young boy comes racing down the street to the girl.

"Come." He says to the girl. She shakes her head and continues to stare at her fathers dead body. "Come. Look away. We need to get to safety." The girl finally gives in and lets herself be taken by the boy. She has lost her innocence today and learned how cruel the world can be. She can't cry, nor speak.

A plane drops low in the sky and a woman steps out where all can see her. The boy covers the young girl. Cackling, the woman says "Hello United States of America. Prepare yourselves. World War III has begun!"

Ms B thought it was weird but she can think what she likes because honestly at this point I don't care. I wrote what came out.
