Chapter 10: SILENCE
FEW HOURS LATER
"Rebekah, we shouldn't be back here. Stiles-"
"Believe me, I wouldn't dare go against his words unless I had a bad feeling. Neither one of my brothers are answering and your red head friend said she last heard from Stiles on his way here. I have to know if they're okay" Rebekah cut in, Scott not saying anything else.
The true alpha and original vampire slowly walked through the front door of the mansion. It was eerily quiet inside, immediately setting off alarms inside of Rebekah's head. Listening intently to anything out of the ordinary, she walked off deeper into the mansion with Scott trailing right behind her ready to shift if anything were to happen.
Walking into one of the living areas, Rebekah's eye traveled across the room where she found Stiles dramatically staring outside the window.
"Samuel" She began, trying to figure out what was wrong. Responding to his name being called, Stiles looked at them biting down on his lip enough to draw blood.
"Are you okay?" Scott asked the much older teenager noticing the lost look in Stiles' eyes.
"They took him..." Stiles whispered as his eyes glistened with tears.
"Who?" Rebekah asked with clenched teeth.
"Niklaus... the Salvatore's desiccated his body the same way they did it to Mikael all those years ago. I was too late to stop it" Stiles told them while holding his stiff neck. It had been ages since his neck was snapped and he did not miss the feeling. Suddenly, a look of confusion took over his face.
"What the hell are you still doing here?"
"I came back to see if you were alive or not!" Rebekah yelled throwing her arms up. "I heard you made it out of the school and then you weren't answering your bloody phone"
"It's not safe here. It's already dark so that means Alaric can be anywhere. We need to go" Stiles said although Rebekah and Scott both knew the boy was trying his hardest to stay calm.
"What about Nik?"
Stiles ignored the girl, walking away as he started grabbing the essential things he needed. As Rebekah tried talking to Stiles, Scott walked over to a shelf where a wooden box sat. He opened it without catching their attention, quietly slipping the two familiar vials into his pocket.
"—are you even listening to me?! Klaus will end up god knows where and we're doing nothing"
"What do you want me to do?!" Stiles shouted spinning around. "I'm doing everything I can right now. There's a vampire hunter out there that is very much stronger than the two of us and faster in every way. The invincible hybrid Klaus has been beaten and incapacitated by a group of newbie vampires and witch. So, please, by all means tell me what you want me to do"
Rebekah shook her head as tears fell down her face. "Our brother is very much a monster in his own way and probably deserves what's coming to him. It doesn't mean we have to let them take him away from us forever"
"I'm sure there's something you can do to get him back" Scott spoke up gaining the spotlight while an annoyed Rebekah rolled her eyes and scoffed.
"Even wolf boy over here agrees, Stiles" she jabbed.
"Explain" Stiles grumbled directing it to Scott.
"What I mean, is that you two are the most dangerous and oldest supernatural beings alive right now. Alaric may have the upper hand right now but he doesn't have what you have" Scott encouraged.
"And what's that?" Rebekah speculates keeping a straight face.
"Family" Scott told them making her demeanor to change and relax. The two Mikaelson's glanced at each other. "You've had each other's back for so long, despite everything, so why would it change now? Now I don't know Klaus as well as you two do but I'm sure he would raise hell if this happened to one of you" Scott exclaimed.
Stiles sighed knowing the werewolf was right and he hated that he was right. For most of his life, Stiles had protected and fought alongside his brother. It wasn't until he took a breath of fresh air and departed from his brother because of his nagging of power that he realized how bad his brother was. How bad them two were together.
"Okay, even if we were to retrieve his body somehow, I don't even know where to begin looking for it" Stiles admitted.
"I do" Rebekah announced. She lifted her phone up showing a string of texts to the boys. "Elijah texted. Seems we have a coffin to pick up. Only this time it's Nik inside of it"
****
Damon is alone in the storage building, sitting on a couch that was in a storage unit while on the phone with Stefan. "Bonnie just left. Rebekah should be here soon along with big brother Stiles, to pick up the body"
"I got Caroline and Elijah in place. Jeremy's going to lead Alaric to us. And be careful with the twin. Although Elijah said Stiles wasn't going to do anything, I don't trust him"
"Nobody should trust that psychopath" Damon scoffed but faltered. "You just had to let her make the choice, didn't you?
"What would you have done, Damon?"
"Grabbed her, gagged her, threw her in a well. I don't know, anything other than let her trust Elijah!" Damon yelled through clenched teeth, using many hand gestures showing his agitation.
"You know she'd just hate you for it, right?" Stefan asked.
"Yet she'd be alive and she'd hate me. Thus the eternal difference between you and me. Brother" Damon sarcastically pointed out.
"As soon as we get the stake, hand over the coffin and get out. Alaric's got half the police looking for Klaus' car"
"Will do" Damon pauses as he hears the elevator ding. "Got to go. The original siblings are here" Damon hangs up the phone.
"It's about time, sexy Bex" Damon called out not caring to acknowledge the other original.
Alaric vamped to Damon, strangling him from behind. A series of groans escaped from the raven haired beauty as he tried prying the much stronger vampires arm from around his neck.
"Where is Klaus?" Alaric demanded huskily.
"How did you find me?" Damon strained to ask.
"Well, you'd be amazed at how competent law enforcement is when it's not corrupted by vampires. Now, where is Klaus?" Alaric once again asked as he tightened his hold.
"Storage locker. There's only about a thousand of 'em. Have at it" Damon sarcastically replied not willing to give the Hybrid up. Alaric growled in anger before breaking his neck with a final squeeze and then throwing him on the floor.
"Guess I'll find him myself" Alaric said as he scanned the many rows of storage lockers.
****
"How normal is it for y'all to pick up a potentially dead body?" Scott asked out loud as the dynamic trio waited inside of the elevator to open up. Stiles, Scott, and Rebekah were there to pick Klaus' body up and take it with them while they ran. It pained Stiles it had to be this way but he understood why Elijah thought it was for the best.
"Shut up" Rebekah sighed closing her eyes. A second passed before she opened again. "And to answer your question, I don't normally do this"
Stiles scoffed. "That's because all the dead bodies are because of you and you just leave them"
Before the original sister could say a word back to her brother, the elevator dinged signaling the opening of the doors. The trio walked out as Rebekah took lead.
"Damon!" She called out, her accent ringing off the metal walls. "Damon, where are you?"
They got down to the end of the hall, all three of them wondering where to go. "We'll go this way, you take that way" Stiles ordered and Rebekah nodded, walking to the left alone.
Stiles and Scott walked side by side as they looked over all the storage lockers, a bad feeling developing inside of Stiles. Out of instinct, his hand reached out to grab the tan boys hand, their fingers automatically curling together as one.
"Damon, this isn't funny" Rebekah's voice was heard in the distance somewhere not to far.
"Somethings wrong" Scott muttered.
Like it was planned to happen, the boys turned a corner and stopped when they seen dozens of storage lockers opened. Several locks were scattered across the floors. Stiles bent down, grabbing a lock and noticed how it was broken open.
"He's here" Stiles muttered.
Damon and Rebekah ran into the opened area where the SUV was waiting as they pushed along the coffin that held Klaus. Before they could put the coffin inside the vehicle, Alaric flashes in front of them. A gasp left the blonde as Alaric grabbed Rebekah by the hair and vamped her her head against the SUV and then throws her on the floor. Damon rushes toward him also but Alaric kicks him in the stomach easily, flinging him backwards on the floor too.
Alaric opens the coffin but before he could stake his target, he's pulled away quickly. Stiles vamped them onto the side of the car. He punched Alaric across the face and went to punch again but Alaric was able to deflect the blow, hooking his own arm around Stiles to swing him around and slam his head through the SUV's window. Stiles' face was bleeding as he got thrown into Rebekah's arms knocking them over.
Suddenly, Alaric screamed in pain as Scott came from behind, biting into the modified original vampires shoulder. Scott backed away as his eyes glowed red and claws and fangs were out. Alaric seemed caught off guard by the different type of werewolf in front of him. It didn't last for long as he he swung at Scott but the true alpha was able to deflect just in time.
Only, Scott, was still not fast enough. He swung his claws down toward Alaric but Alaric caught his wrist. He pulled Scott forward at the same time spinning him, so that his chest was against Scott's back and his hand was gripping the werewolf's neck.
Stiles was just getting back up when his eyes made eye contact with Scott's. It was the first time Scott had ever seen true fear appear on Stiles' face. The way his lips parted open slightly as inaudible gasp fell from them, tears instantly welding up.
A snap bounced off the walls as Alaric pushed away the now dead body away from him.
So much was going on at once. Stiles vamped to catch the now lifeless Scott's body before it could hit the ground as big tear drops ran down his cheeks. The poor boy was bent over as they dropped to the ground, Stiles sobbing into Scott's chest hoping to hear any source of life. The only thing he was met with was silence.
Alaric sped over to the still open coffin using that distraction to his advantage and plunged the stake into Klaus' chest. "No, don't!" Rebekah screamed but Damon held her back. A gasp left the hybrid before his body caught on fire.
Rebekah was screaming and crying as she thrashed around in Damon's arms. Damon is holding her but he's in shock. Alaric looks at them, takes the stake from the burning body and then closes the coffin. He turns himself toward them. "Next"
Damon grips Stiles shoulder who tried yanking it away in a weak attempt as sobs leave his mouth, from both losing his best friend and brother.
"Rebekah, run" Damon orders. He pulls Stiles up letting Scott slip out of his hands. "Run, now!" Damon orders the both of them and with one last longing look, Stiles and Rebekah ran away like old times.
****
In the woods of Mystic Falls, Rebekah walked toward her older brother Elijah who had a concerned expression. "He's gone, Elijah. There was nothing I could do to stop it" Rebekah sobbed as he embraces her. He has tears in his eyes as he tries holding it in.
"Tyler Lockwood is dead, but the rest survived. You said that Nicklaus turned their bloodline" Elijah said as he pulled away.
"I thought he did"
"It wasn't me, it wasn't Kol nor Stiles" Elijah protested.
"It wasn't me, Elijah. It was Nicklaus, I'm sure of it" Rebekah assured.
"Then how are they still alive?" Elijah asked.
****
Lost. That's exactly how Stiles felt. The feeling of not knowing where to go, not knowing what to do. A hollow pit sat in the center of his chest, a numb feeling circulating throughout his entire body. Losing a person is the worst but losing the two closest people that meant the world to you and was your entire being was worse than death itself.
That's why Stiles found himself walking in the middle of the road, iPhone in hand with a number dialing.
"Hello?"
"You're alive. Congratulations" Stiles spoke, although his voice was wiped of any emotion.
"Stiles"
"Elijah spoke to Elena and then Elijah spoke to Rebekah who then spoke to me. Her and Matt should be arriving back in town any minute now" Stiles stated.
"Yeah, he told me that. He also said you three would be long gone out of town by now" Stefan noted.
"You see, that's the problem I'm having trouble with at the moment. All in one night, Alaric took... everything from me, Stefan. My brother Elijah says that we have to run, that the hunter will keep coming after us, but I don't want to run anymore, Stefan. I've spent my whole life running and I'll be damned if I run away from this bastard" Stiles ranted angrily.
"What are you talking about? We had a deal" Stefan argued.
"You made a deal with Elijah. Klaus is dead and so is Scott. There is no deal. If my the rest of my siblings and I are going to survive, we need to get rid of Alaric, and the only way to get rid of Alaric..."
"Stiles, no!" Stefan pleaded through the phone realizing what was happening.
"You wanted a reaction out of my family? You got it. Just know I'm about to rain blood on the whole damn town"
Shouts came from the phone that was lowered to his waist as Stiles stood in the middle of the road, a set of truck headlights coming straight toward him.
"Matt, watch out!"
The truck swerved just in time to miss hitting Stiles but it ended up crashing into the side of the bridge and crashing straight down into the water.
Where Elena Gilbert would be taking her last, miserable, human breath.
****
Stiles sat inside of the mansion, whiskey glass in his hand, staring into the fire that was burning. His eyes were stinging with fresh tears and his eyes were red. As he continued staring into the fire, he couldn't help but get lost in his thoughts again. The moment kept replaying over and over again.
He screamed in anger, turning around to throw the glass bottle at the wall. The bottle shattered on impact. That wasn't what made Stiles freeze though. It was who was standing in the door way that made him freeze.
"Scott?"
