Chapter 1
The sun had finally come out and beat down on the moist ground at Jophiel. It had been raining for the past week, but Caylynn didn't mind. The plants needed the water, and the animals needed a drink. She was sitting on a log, a small fawn curled up in her lap. The fawn's mother had died days ago and Caylynn decided to stay with it. As the Angel of nature, she must not leave the animals and nature in danger. She figured the baby animal might not be able to find food on its own.
The following year after Caylynn got her wings were different. She had found out she can summon vines and send a shower of thorns to her enemies. She also discovered she could talk to animals, understand them also listen to nature and hear what it was telling her. The Queen had helped her and taught her everything she knew today. She was so thankful for her life, and she wouldn't change a thing about it.
Jophiel was a city invisible to the human realm, beyond the clouds. To those who lived in it, it was as if it defied gravity and floated. It was similar to how the humans lived except no humans lived in Jophiel. The resident angels all had their own unique powers.
Caylynn remembered being told about the angels of the elements, but she had never seen or met them before. She had often wondered what they looked like and if they also had colourful wings that weren't the standard white.
She stroked the ferns back, then watched it leap away through the forest and disappear in the distance. Caylynn stood up and walked towards The Eternity Waterfall. She observed the water fall steeply over the rocky ledge above her and fell down into the pool below it. Caylynn adored the sound of the crash waves, the music of the birds and the fresh scent of natures gifts.
She perched herself onto a rock and watched her reflection in the water. Caylynn adores her wings and watched them move through the pond.
"Go away. I was joking! Stop chasing me dude!" a masculine voice yelled out jerking her from her peaceful thoughts. She recognised that voice immediately and fought an eye roll.
"Idiots," she mumbled under her breath.
"Come back here, Thomas! I only want to hug you!" the other man yelled out.
"Go home, Liam! I already said sorry, what more do you want?" Thomas said loudly, this time sounding closer than before.
Caylynn shook her head and signed. She should have been used to them having grown up with them, but she still wasn't used to their antics. She remembered how Thomas used to always get in trouble during class meanwhile Liam was always quiet and got perfect scores.
Once again Caylynns thoughts were disrupted when she was splashed with water. Her eyes went wide, and her mouth flew open as she stood up. All she could see was red. She was feeling very uncomfortable as her wet dress hugged her body. The two men continued to roll around in the water, completely oblivious to the angry woman standing just metres away from them.
"Boys!" she shouted, placing her hands on her waist.
They didn't listen and continued to roll around in the water, their wings fluttering around.
She sighed and muttered to herself, "Even at twenty-eight, they still act like little children."
The twins were always so different in personalities. One was the joker and the other was serious. Caylynn took a deep breath in and closed her eyes and whispered a spell under her breath.
"Angel and Goddess',
Nature and beauty,
Vines of gold,
Vines of wisdom,
Show yourself,
For the Angel of Nature needs your assistance.
Wrap your thorns,
Around thy ankles."
Leaves circled around Caylynns hands as the spell took place. They made their way over to some trees in the distance and towards the vines that hung on the branches. She smiled as the vines crept over to the water and quickly wrapped around both men's ankles. She watched as the vines lifted both the men upside down. Her arms folded across her chest as the men dangled and fought to escape.
"Hey! Let us down!" Thomas yelled; the sun shimmered off his wet tan skin.
"Yeah! What he said," Liam agreed, swinging his arms. His blond hair dangled freely in the air.
"Are you two children done? Got that out of the systems?" Caylynn asked, tilting her head to the side.
"Children?" Thomas scoffed and placed a hand over his chest. "Oh my heart!"
"Stop being dramatic," she deadpanned and rolled her eyes.
"Why am I being punished with this idiot? I didn't do anything!" Liam argued.
"Hey! Who are you cal-" Thomas started.
"Because you are equally an idiot and ruined my peace!" Caylynn cut in. "Everyone knows not to interrupt the Angel of Nature!"
"Sorry, ma'am," Liam and Thomas said in unison.
"Better." Caylynn smiled from ear to ear. She paced back and forth; her hands were closed but her index fingers were sticking out and she closed her eyes.
"God of thunder,
Oceans of gold,
Nature be good,
Release these men."
Caylynn turned around, her back faced the men as she cracked her knuckles. The pleasant sound of two men falling to the ground filled her ears. The next thing she heard was their groans.
"You could have put us down gently!" Thomas said.
Caylynn faced both men once again in time to see Thomas rubbing his head and Liam holding his back as he stood back up.
"Oh oops! Did I forget to say 'put them down gently' at the end? My bad," Caylynn mocked, faking a gasp and put her hand over her mouth. She held back a laugh and watched the baby fern leap to her side. "Hello young one."
Caylynn remembered her first connection to an animal which was a small puppy. Its big blue eyes stared up at her and its tail moves from side to side excitedly. She had reached to pet it; its fur was soft.
She had remembered how her education changed and how she started to learn other types of spells and more about how her emotions connect to her powers. She admired all her teachers for taking her on and educating her. She understood that they would be challenged since she was different to other angels they taught so she made sure to send them flowers any opportunity she got.
"Sorry ma'am, excuse me," a young voice said, disrupting Caylynn from her thoughts.
She looked down at the boy who looked no older than ten. He wore a red oversized hooded coat with white baggy trousers and a letter in his hand.
"How can I help you young one?" she asked and smiled down at him.
"Kind Seraphim requires your presence at the castle. He has a mission for you," the boy announced.
