Chapter 6
Caylynn closed the door and stood there wide eyed. She was like a fish out of water, her mouth opened but no words flowed out. It took her a couple of seconds to force out an answer. "On a walk."
"That long? What if something happened to you out there?!" Kai berated; his hands rested on his waist, his chest slowly rose and fell with each breath.
Caylynn bit back a smart assed reply. "Why are you shirtless, Kai?"
"If being hot was a crime, Kai would certainly serve life in prison," Caylynn thought to herself.
It was now Kai who opened and closed his mouth with no words coming out. "I was working out."
"Right," Caylynn said and yawned. "That's why you are red."
"Fine!" Kai threw his hands up. "I was working on my tan, happy?"
"Very," Caylynn replied. "Now that we are even—"
"Caylynn, be careful out there," Kai warned, his arms folded across his chest and his eyebrows pulled together.
Kai reminded her on her father. She knew he probably meant well but she wasn't five years old, she was an adult who knew how to take care of herself. Her mother wasn't as much of a worry head like her father was.
"Nothings going to happen to me plus you boys were busy being little kids so I had to leave and give you all time to get it out of your systems." She glared at Kai and poked him in the chest. "Just a tip, if you mess with me, you will find thorns in a very unpleasant part of you."
"You wouldn't!" Kai said, his eyes went wide.
Caylynn smirked. "You never know until you try." She walked past him and down the hall.
"Gotta do what you gotta do," she thought to herself.
Once she entered the living room, Carlow and Axton both looked her way and smiled. "The woman of the hour!" they both yelled in unison.
"Okay, what did you two do?" Caylynn asked, resting her hands on her waist. She was oddly suspicious of them, their faces reeked mischievous little boys masking their innocence.
"Nothing," Carlow replied and threw his hand over his chest. "I'm so hurt you would think we did do something!"
Caylynn supressed a chuckle. She remembered how Liam and Thomas would act equally as dramatic when she would say the same to them, but she knew that they weren't innocent. As far as Carlow, Liam or Kai were concerned she didn't know them well enough to cast much judgement yet.
Axton took his feet off the table and smiled. "While you were gone, we kind of sorted who had what room but we didn't know which door you wanted. The mint one or the pink one."
"Watch her pick the pink one," Kai said dully from behind Caylynn making her almost jump out of her skin again.
"Firstly, don't sneak up on a girl like that. Secondly, not all girls like pink, asshole," Caylynn said expressionless and jabbed her finger into his chest before turning back to Carlow and Axton. "I'll take the mint door."
"Awesome. That's sorted then. Kai's room is the orange door. Caylynn has the mint one. Carlow has the blue one and I have the pink one." Axton jumped up from the couch and smoothed down his shirt. He glanced her way, his eyes resting on the bags in her hands and raised an eyebrow "What do you have there?"
"Not much, just some jewellery, clothes and a lamp," Caylynn replied and held the bags up. "You know, girl stuff."
"Someone get the card away from her!" Carlow joked and rolled off the couch laughing, landing with a loud thud.
She glanced next to her to catch Kai roll his eyes. It was only then that she took notice of how smooth and soft his skin looked, how his pink lips puckered out a little and how his hair looked wavy today. She really wanted to ask them all questions especially about their childhood but she shook the thought away.
"I'm going to go and pack these things. Don't kill each other while I'm gone," Caylynn announced and started walking down the hallway. "Also, you three are my brothers and we are Angelo's niece and nephews if any human asks."
"Yes, mother," Kai yelled out mockingly.
Caylynn raised her right hand and flipped him the bird on her way out. She coud hear Axton and Carlow howling with laughter. She reached the mint door and smiled. It was the colour of her wings and she loved it. She wrapped her hand around the cold door handle and pushed the door open.
She entered the room and looked around. It was a fairly large space. A queen-sized bed rested on the mint coloured wall to her right. A singular whitewashed bedside table sat next it. The rest of the room was quite empty except for the wardrobe, carpet and another door in the far left corner.
"This room needs some love," Caylynn thought to herself.
She rested the bags on the bed and sighed. She pulled out the angel lamp and sat it on the bedside table. Excitement washed her over as she stared at the items she bought. It was short lived when the sound of her stomach rumbling filled the air.
"I guess I haven't eaten at all today," she said to herself. "Maybe I should go get something to eat."
She spun around on her heals and walked back towards the living room. Kai and Carlow were both sitting on the couch with their feet up on the table. Caylynn winced as she stopped herself from kicking their feet off and breaking them both. She hated when people did that and really disliked having to eat off that same table.
She quickly walked past them and to the kitchen. After a while of searching through the cabinets she pulled out a packet of salt and vinegar chips.
"This'll do," she said to herself and walked back out the kitchen.
"We don't know what to do first," Axton said to a person Caylynn couldn't see from behind the wall.
"Who is he talking to?" Caylynn thought to herself. "Can't be Kai or Carlow."
She quickened her pace and stood by the doorway of the living room to see the back of a man with a mess of short black hair.
"Hello Caylynn," the man said and turned to face her with a smile on his face.
She studied him for a few minutes before recognition hit her like a tonne of bricks. "How—Lord Angelo! Hello," Caylynn greeted in disbelief. "What are you doing here?!"
"My child, you are forgetting that I have duties here in the human realm and up in Jophiel." He replied with a smile and bowed his head. "I see everyone is getting settled already."
"Not exactly," Kai said loudly. "What the hell are we meant to be doing now? Run through the forest?"
"Try getting jobs, get your own phones, figure out what's going on. There is no time limit," Angelo replied patiently.
"Easier said then done," Kai mumbled. "I'd rather be home than out here."
Caylynn glared at Kai for a couple seconds and sighed. It was at that point that murder crossed her mind, but she shook that thought away. Thorns to the crotch was another good option but she decided to let the man reproduce for the time being. She had heard many stories of the human realm, but she never dreamed that she would be living in it and be sent on a mission.
"I'm going to be staying in the human realm for a couple days, how about I help you guys out? I can set you all with the basics, help you all with jobs and you all go from there," Lord Angelo offered.
